It’s called being on camera. Never judge someone by how they behave on camera. The fact is you have equally honest and genuine dealers near where you live too. They just don’t have cameras following them around. Go help those ones.
I would imagine something like this would be a good chance for them all to hone their eyes to different fakes as well. Always great to see these guys demonstrate their trade skills.
I love the "Tuition Box." This was a really difficult set of coins to identify, but Harry's philosophy is so cool, and the teamwork in figuring them out was good. Please do more videos like these -- not just world coins, but old USA stuff as well. I love to learn and this is a graduate-level course.
Those guys are all great. The time they spend on going over the coins and making sure they are real is why you do business with your LCS and pay that premium to them.
I agree. Develop a relationship. When I first went into my LCS to make a purchase, I was treat fairly but not warmly. After a few transactions that changed. I wouldn’t do what SD is doing on a first visit. I have had my LCS look at some pieces my dad had.

As a pianist what stood to me that other's might not grasp , is Harry's hands are sensitive enough that his nerves "know" the difference from 5 grams and instantly gives him a red flag. 5 grams is about 5 paperclips. I called a piano tech one day and told him about a piano. The tech thought I was a crazy person because; I told him that the hammers seem to be about a centimeter or half centimeter of extra travel distance from when I hit the key until the hammers hit the string. He basically told me that was impossible to "tell" by playing...I told him I'd pay for an action regulation (Action is what pianists and techs call the inside of the hammers and keys)... He thought I was crazy until he got the action to his shop and he called me to apologize, saying "it was exactly how you said it was , I have no idea how you could tell that , but some were half a centimeter off , some a centimeter" The human body and mind honed on a skill can detect just about anything :)
Again, I love the HCS series of episodes. Also, I think it's time to spin off Harry's into their own channel. I'd love to hear what all the other fans of this channel think about this idea? Another thing that would be totally freakin awesome is to get a super mega collaboration between Silver Dragons, Harry's, Yankee Stacker, and Yankee's LCS Tim Marschner. I'd pay REAL (silver) money to see that happen.
I love these videos. I was collecting coins as a kid when wheats, silver, buffalo nickels, mercury dimes and liberty walking were all in circulation. Back then a quarter was alot of money. I hope you guys are having fun making them and are making some "coin' doing them. thankyou!
Wow, that's impressive! When I was a kid, the only occasional finds were wheat cents and 40% silver Kennedy half dollars. Actually, I got another 40% half dollar within the last year from my bank. Realized it as I was walking out.
Luckily I have a coin shop near me with the same kind of people working there as Harry's. They want to help with anything they can, and they are honest with honest prices. I wish Harry's was closer to where I live, so I could go there, but still quite happy with my local coin shop. Another great video. Love the fake vs real coin videos.
On the fake Eagles that passed the Sigma, I'm wondering if they were able to put some small amount of real silver in the center figuring the sigma would check the center of the coin and maybe that's how it passed?
Or with how crazy premiums were, they were actual fine silver. Not out of the realm of possibility that someone wasn't necessarily scamming based on real/fake silver content but the crazy premiums they were going for. For example... my LCS was buying for $4 over at one point and selling at $10 over.

18x face on 90% is an amazing deal!! If I lived nearby, I would do a large pickup. I just called most of the shops in my town and they charge between 19x-20x

I made the mistake of trusting a buddy of mine. I paid him what he was asking. Two of the most expensive were fake. They were $800.00. to this day he refuses to pay me back.
The problem with fakes is reputation. While a shop can take the heat, if someone buys one from a Shop, you cannot take word of mouth in reputation in loss. Same with Stamps and actually more acceptable even with Catalogues! However this is a learning lesson in both Coins & Stamps.

You are correct, they were ridiculous coins, should have bought coins with the Queen on, that way they can be recognised by amateurs without having to go to a dealer. The staff at Harry's are fabulous.
10:20 yeah, internally China seems to have huge issues with counterfeits and then some of that leaks out into the world. There's a video about how they have counterfeit cooking oil because so many people are constantly looking for that edge on almost everything.
Paid my second visit to Harry's last Saturday. Harry put a 10 ounce bar on hold for me while I wheeled my way over. In the mean time a customer relinquished another bar that I was able to get. It made the trip worthwhile.
This channel makes me wanna buy more silver.... I got some IOUs and cash savings to sort out first though. Plus building solar arch for my boat to be more self sufficient.
