What Makes Mercury Silver Dimes the Best Silver for Barter?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 сер 2023
- In this video I talk to Harry from Harry's Coin Shop about using silver for barter and why Mercury Silver Dimes seem to be the best option. Mercury silver dimes have only ever been made by the US Mint out of 90% silver and 10% copper. When it comes to bartering with silver the silver dime is a great choice because it is one of the smallest recognizable pieces of silver so it can be used for small transactions. Roosevelt dimes were made out of 90% silver for a time, but ever since 1965 they have been made out of copper and nickel. Roosevelt silver dimes are typically less worn than Mercury silver dimes, however they are less recognizable as silver dimes. Other types of junk silver can be used for barter as well, but the dime is the smallest making it the most versatile. Other types of silver such as silver rounds and silver coins could be used for barter, but only for larger transactions. When it comes to silver stacking and silver investing some people want to buy silver for barter and others just want to use silver as a hedge against inflation. If you want price exposure to silver then Harry recommends silver coins and silver rounds.

It's so refreshing to see honest and transparent business people. I appreciate people like this and wholeheartedly go out of my way to do business with people such as these.
I found a wheat penny with the face blank( Lincoln face side). I’ve never heard or seen one. What do you think it might be worth ?
I am not even a silver or coin collector, yet hearing the folks at harry's talk makes me interested in it
start stackin!
Never to late my friend
Mercury dimes are a Great place to start collecting. They are 100 years old and still can be purchased by the roll, for like120$
Join the club all are welcome
was about to comment that I love these videos at this shop, wish I lived near it I would spend irresponsibly weekly
I really look forward to your shows with Harry's coin shop. Great show! King Richard's opinions and expertise in numismatics is invaluable. Long Live KING RICHARD!!!!
Harry, Adrian and Richard seem like the core of the crew. If they did a ten minute video article every week, with some patience, in a year or so theyd have enough material to start HarryTV, his own online coin network. Adrian already has his bat cave for a studio. The possibilities are endless and they have tremendous leverage built in already. Adrian is incredibly eloquent, Richard is exceptionally knowledgeable. The reason I hang on every word Harry says is because he does more than teach about coins. Intentionally or not, he teaches *_how_* to understand coins. He's taught me that I didn't even know what I didn't know. He's constantly explaining influences I would never even have thought of.
What happened to the fourth guy?
Gotta love King Richard! They all have great knowledge and I appreciate them sharing it. Such a cool LCS. Wish I had one close to me. Used to but it closed down awhile back-
Harry and his family are wonderful and honest. The host of this program seems to be disaffected. Angry about life. A segregationist from Florida!
I’ve made so many mistakes, starting in the early 90’s I was buying anything and everything, heavy on junk and bars, around 3 years ago I saw the light! I sold off my bars, rounds, and coins and converted to gold, now I only hold a small amount of junk and only have US gold in the form of bullion or ungraded pre 33 gold!!! I recommend to anyone to hold on to mercury dimes,Franklin/walking liberty half’s and eagles/double eagles period.
I am starting to get into junk silver. I love it. I remember my dad collecting it as a kid.
Such balanced personalities working toward a shared goal. I love seeing it
I bought some rounds on the low and premiums were super low and, because of that, I'm in the black on them already! Took a week or two! Crazy.
These folks are so nice. Much love to the whole crew, and thank you, SD, for continuing to feature them in videos. I am all-in on Mercury dimes. They will never be confused with clad dimes.
I'm in Canada and started stacking around 2010/11. In the mid teens, I stacked a lot of Canadian 80% and U.S. 90% junk silver. I still have all of it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode 🎉
harry has put together a really good team there. 👑 Richard and his knowledge of world coins blows me away everytime.
I love these guys, they seem to genuinely care for their customers and have fun doing it.
Yeah these guys are cool they sell on what’s not app and they have one of the best shows on that app imo
I love watching these video's from Harry's shop, keep it up!
I would like to see Harry show us 10 oz of silver rounds side by side with 10 oz of silver in junk (so there should be more than 10 oz in junk weight to equal 10 oz of pure silver) so we can see the bulk comparison. Might be interesting to see 10 oz of silver in a single bar and 10 oz of silver in various coins such as Eagles, Maple Leafs, etc also stacked side by side for comparison. Obviously, 10 oz of pure silver is going to look close to 10 oz in pure silver, but the various shapes and sizes will be cool to see. I would also like to know if the Harry and the guys go through each coin of their personal collection? Sure, in a volume business they might dump whole bags of junk silver into the trays assuming the good stuff has been pulled out already, but what about a bag they bought for their personal stack? If they don't stack, what do they put their money into?
Great comment.
Love the honesty of this shop ! Not a border stacker yet , but something to think about with the older 90% . Thanks .
Harry is the most honest, fair and considerate coin dealer there is... Like seriously just check out the reviews on Google there's literally only one bad review and it was because some women was trying to pull the race card
I always loved the look of the Mercury dime, Franklin halves and walking liberty half, trie classics
You and me!
Agreed
Ditto
Harry's videos are gold!
I stopped by Harry's once when I was passing through and while it was a treat, I'm always thankful for my personal LCS. They've had eagles at $27.50 for like 3 weeks now and rounds were $24.50 for a while until this week. (Don't ask where, they don't ship.) I've been so spoiled by good prices it hurts to travel and buy stuff because everyone else is so much more.
"Dont ask where" sounds like code for Im lying through my teeth to make it sound like I have a connection that doesn't exist. The adult version of "I have a girlfriend but she goes to another school".
@@Backwoodsmachinist It isn’t a connection, it’s just a store nearby. Think what you want, random internet stranger.
❤ Harry is such a kind and interesting man that I like hearing what he has to say in the background while I am hanging out at home. In the coming days, considering the current worth of our fiat dollar bills, best to have something that will still be worth something! Silver is better. Barter times are coming!🙏
You guys are a breath of fresh air, great advice. Thank u
I liked the British Coins. Once again the Staff at Harry's are fabulous.
Love it when you go to Harry's! Best coin shop around.
Thanks for the visit with Harry and the crew. Enjoyed the the visit, such great people. Truly a credit to the industry. Hope to visit the shop one day, Aloha.
What a great and informative video…one of my favorites!
These folks seem like such nice people. If I weren’t on the other side of the country I would gladly do business with them.
This is a GREAT video! Harry's is awesome!
These guys are so down to earth, very honest n fair. I’ve seen a couple of videos of them n always so interesting n knowledgeable. I always look forward to viewing them. Thanks for the show n tell, I luv it !
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This as always been a question in my mind, as a newbie. Need old dimes, need the hedge. I'm thinking 10% 90% of each every month out of my paycheck till it hurts. We know SHTF is coming. Might as well embrace it.
Always Love these Videos. Nice Work!
I enjoy your videos, it touches on collecting and stacking also the guys in this shop are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Keep up the great work!
💪😎👍💰🇺🇸🙏
Really enjoy each video from Harry's Coin shop. I missed this one months ago and just looked at my Dad's Walker halves and there are two of the key dates mentioned for the Walker halves (1921 S & 1938 D). Thank you!! Always learn something from these.
Thanks for the light hearted video!
Thanks for everyone in the video. The continuing education for free . Confirming some things that I know, is a good feeling when I deal with coin shop owners. Thank you .
everyone likes to hear what they like to hear. I pity the fools who thinks that is knowledge confirmation.
you’re lucky to have harry in your area. if i’m ever back that way, i’m going to make it a point to stop by even if it’s 100 miles out of my way. good things come to good people and ive been in tons of coin shops but you can tell that harry is just a good guy and deserves good things
New to your channel. This is a great format and the guy,s at Harry,s are top-notch !
Love these guys just started buying silver! exciting
Love Harry! What a beautifully merchandised store. WOW 🤩 wish you lived near me.
Great information and video
great videos man, keep them coming...
As a kid I had a lot of silver quarters, but then arcades happened. Missile Command, and Berserk.
For anyone who has even a little bit of collector or history lover in them searching through 90% can be a lot of fun. Thanks!
Twaskyou sr for all information about us silver.
Blessings
You guys are great. Most lcs I know will take the rare or expensive coin you find and say they misplace them or give you attitude.
This was another great video. Excellent topic.
Harry's prices are really VERY GOOD. I BELIEVE THAT IS BECAUSE HES SUCH AN HONEST MAN.
Love the content of this channel always
This is how a coin shop should be run, very personable staff that know their stuff and value the customer. Nice to see a neighborhood bricks and mortar store as they are getting rare.
Great video. Learned a few things as well.
You brought up a good question when you asked if they go through the coins they buy. I've just always figured most coin shops primarily care about Silver and gold. I'm not so much a stacker as I am a collector, so I'm always just buying coins out of the bargain bins and some of the "junk silver" hoping to find an oddities that I can keep for myself, unless it's something worth selling. About 3 months ago I came in the shop and did some cherry picking and I bought some "war" nickels and other just random coins that I liked. I didn't spend over $20 but one of those nickels turned out to be a A decent condition 1943 P over a '42! It sold on eBay for $145 a week later.
Top Notch crew at Harry's!
Harry and his crew have a very positive vibe and enjoy watching these segments.
The vlogs at Harry’s coin shop are the best. I really enjoy them and learn some too.
Another excellent video, only a couple of days until my next trip to Harry's to get some more.
Great video! I would love to do some business at Harry's, they are very knowledgeable and real stand-up guys! The only thing I might disagree about is the opinion that if we were ever in a "barter situation" that people wouldn't understand that the '64 and older Rosies, Washington quarters, and Kennedy halves are 90% silver. I think people would catch on pretty quick that any dimes, quarters, and halves 1964 and older are 90%. It's also easy enough to look at them sideways and see the copper layer if they are clad. But I have heard others with this opinion as well.
its one of those iykyk type things. Still hard to believe that only 40% of Americans have guns
I wish I had his shop near me. They sound like very genuine guys.
Killing it with the Harry videos love them
Love the intro video of the shop!
Love it at Harry’s
Love these guys
Great thoughts!! makes sense
I’d be like a kid in a candy store shopping at a coin store like yours great selection and staff just a bit longer of a road trip than I’m ready for at this time perhaps I can plan a vacation that direction
Thanks for the show and tell
I wish there was a shop like Harry's in my town!
very professionnal service..!!!!....exellent ..!!!
your video made me smile, don't get me wrong it is a great video. but about 4 or 5 years ago on a you tube video I stated the same thing that mercury dimes were the best 90% to stack along with Franklins and walkers and alot of the youtube community tore me a new one. I was told my comment was stupid, misguided and down right dumb. so I kept buying mercury dimes (because according to the comments I got I am stupid) and now I have thousands of mercury dimes. time will either prove you right or wrong. keep making good video's and I will keep listening to them. Jim P.S. what happened to platinum beast???
LOVE that he said hes willing to do Phone calls ! thats business man right there 101 with you thats amazing and i probably will call very very soon
Really like these videos and this shop. Thanks
Extremely good video
Absolutely true. I'm backing up the truck on 90% Dimes and quarters $20 x in Michigan last Friday 👍
Paid $17.50 for dimes and Quarters today in Indiana
Great stuff ❤
Thanks so much!!! Just called harry and made my purchase…
Where is Harry's Coin Shop? Cuz his prices, beat the tar out of ours. Dang!
Beaverton, Oregon. We ship nationwide. Please let us know if we can be of any help, our shop phone number appears on the video.
Excellent vid, worth a second and maybe a third and fourth viewing.
*edit: At some point in time Silver will gain in value and weight will matter.
Great 👍 video
Love listening about junk silver. Great video silver dragons 🐉
Always amazing information. I love
Listening to HARRY.❤️
Thanks for posting key dates
I like the videos where you talk with the shop bros
I dont think they are brothers, why do you say that
I look forward to all the great gold/silver bars/coins/rounds that you always pick-up from Harry.
Love Harry - and Adrian. Warming speedily to Richard and Kato. Harry never had a security guy, at least from the older vids I saw. Why does he need Kato now; have things changed in the 'hood?
I found two coffee cans of 90% dimes among my mother's leavings after she passed. While I knew I'd keep some for the bartering/shtf scenario, I decided to sell all the Mercs and keep the Roosevelts in tubes, labeled by year. I fell the dates can still be viewed with the naked eye, for most of us, so it's easy for anyone to verify them. Plus, they look like a dime. The Mercs are no longer recognizable to the current generation, they've never seen one. Since I think shtf is a more distant concern (hopefully), I wanted to keep what looked more familiar to the person I'd likely be bartering with. I used the proceeds from the Mercs to buy some gold and some silver rounds.
I was a collector when I was younger and I stumbled across your videos with Harry and the sidecars, reigniting my interest. Seems like a great team in every aspect but when the camera pans to the back and the term “security” is used suddenly your video gets a dual diagnosis of educational and comedic genius. I hope he gets paid in wheat pennies.😂
Since I'm Canadian, I love and stack 80%.
I prefer the bigger coins because they wear better but I stack it all.
I’m in Louisiana and love Canadian coins. I’ve always checked my change for silver and used to always find a few dimes here and there thru the 90’s and 2000’s but the last silver dime I found was a couple years ago and a 62 Canadian
I love this coin shop. I wish they were located in Austin, TX.
One thing to note, nowadays people who handle old coins for the most part know what they are doing, and coin tubes and flips are easily obtainable, so I think there's little need to worry about continued wear on old coins. However much wear they have now is probably how much they will have until they are potentially melted down someday.
That's the reason I mostly stack walking liberty and Franklin half dollars. I do stack kennedy halves, but only au/ bu halves
Good video!
I’d love to visit this coin shop! They all seem so nice and welcoming
Sick video man I liked this one lists of good knowledge for people
Thank you for the gold back
I'm proof of Harry's algorithm. I collect Mercury's but those I have go into my stack
i love HARRY hes great but it was king CHARLES not king GEORGE on the gold britannia
I have bought from Harry. They have a nice store. Thanks for sharing
I like to think Junk silver is like the pre-33 of the future 😂
Thank you Harry for taking the time to look up my coin.. I wish I lived closer to you .
Great information!
thanks
I’ve been stacking off and on since the 90’s. After many years of mistakes, luck, smart moves ect!!! I’ve decided to only hold US gold and 100$ face of silver. Mostly mercury dimes, it’s better to have a shoe box full of hundreds and a wallet full of twenty’s in my opinion
I was buying maples for a while because eagle premiums were so high now that the premiums have come down and they aren’t taxed eagles are actually cheaper then maples! So obviously I’ve been buying eagles! I kind of wish maples were cheaper they are my favorite. But as long as I can pick up good bullion coins at a fair price I’m happy 😊
Love "Junk" silver. One of the best things about it is that I love handling it and listening to the unique silver "Klink". I would feel like I would damage rounds or coins.
you are damaging both kinds.
I would be interested to hear what coins the guys look out for, error and just more valuable. If they have them for sale or if they collect themselves. Thanks.
Just picked up 20 90% half dollars walking liberty franklins and 64 Kennedy
