We've seen the Nutkin in a context affiliating it with Y'shtola once before, though it was a little indirect. After Emet-Selch brings her back from the Lifestream in the Rak'tika Greatwood, and conjures up some clothes to keep her from being naked in public this time, the group gathers to discuss things, and if you pay attention, you can find the nutkin lurking nearby -- maybe disappointed that it didn't get to protect Y'shtola's modesty this time? It's the only place it appears in Shadowbringers, and I think most people overlook it.

So a couple of things I've noticed in this trailer as well; Firstly is the hard cut between the fight with the beast and Estinien. When the water washes over them it hard cuts to the group being out of the water immediately, if anything this might be where we get the reveal of the new caster and possibly Krile. The other being the voice on the boat being perhaps the one at the end of 6.5 Pretty sure that's our F-Hrothgar reveal.

Given what we saw in 6.50 story, I don't believe there will be much time between 6.55 and 7.0. Seems like it will be pretty immediate.
He actually is visible at the end and you can see nothing special about him. Same outfit and hairstyle, and much shorter than the PC.
Most likely he is featured with Krile in whatever scene is going to show us green mage or w/e. And him being absent is just because they're blocking this scene for a reveal. We know Krile is going to play a much more major role in the story, and alphinaud is always front and center. So there will likely be a lot of Krile + Alphi scenes in DT.

I think the name viper is really interesting, I am by no means a final fantasy veteran so maybe there are job names like it but I don’t know of any. Considering how many jobs names are pretty straightforward, like [verb]er or [color]mage having a job named after an animal stands out. Especially because, while snakes do have two fangs and attack swiftly. The analogy breaks down with the dual blade mode.
It could have some lore implications, like a sprit or god venerated by the people that created the practice. It could reference some power the viper has like poisons or the ability to channel the aether of animals/snakes. Or it could just be that Yoshida and the team just wanted to have a very distinct name for the fun of it. Who can say.

Compare the boots of the mysterious guest in the final scenes of Growing Light with the Geomancer’s leg gear from FFXI and it matches. Additionally it has a symbol on it that is similar to the symbols on the hat of the FFXI Geomancer. It could still be green mage but I think it will borrow from Geomancer heavily. It also makes sense that after channeling the will of the star for a full expansion Krile can now use the star itself and its elements. Also some of the non-FFXI geomancer gear looks Andean/Native enough to be at home in the new world.

@@sagakun06 Devs aren't lazy - but there isn't much of a choice system in the game and the last few times they tried it in ShB's it wasn't well received so they scrapped it.
It just doesn't work for the game to suddenly have choices that impact the future - not every game needs that. It's not objectively a good thing its just a different style.
This game has always relied on a cinematic experience. And that's when the game is at its best - far better for them to focus on creating more cinematic experiences where a carefully crafted narrative comes together than gimmicky rpg choice systems.

@@sagakun06 I wouldn't say laziness... I mean have you SEEN the people working on this game at any event? Especially leading up to the expansions, they just look absolutely exhausted. They absolutely put in a lot of hard work.
I am more inclined to think that they wouldn't do it because of the extra work it would take in terms of script writing, animation, and voice acting.
But they can still set up the story in such a way that both options ultimately have the same outcome. For example if we're there for the succession, and the scions are divided between the candidates only to have a third candidate come in at the end and succeed to the throne over both initial options. They could also have whatever dungeons happen along the way be a part of both stories. Think like if we had a choice to side with any of the Au Ra tribes before the Nadaam, but still had to complete the trials Bardam's Mettle and tame a Yol no matter who we were competing alongside.

It seemed to me there was to be a conflict on the island between groups of those already living there and I'll honestly be a little disappointed if we go back into the "native vs outsider/imperialism" trope, real world parallels to the contenent aside. Plus, it would likely be hard to give any gray areas to a story like that and justify a scion split.

Huge analysis comment here, so spoilers for everything MSQ to this point (Also gave this a lot of thought so 1000% sure I'm correct... So read ahead at your discretion):
Thancred's already feeling alienated and irrelevant. :( Remember Warriors of Light, if Thancred asks, you know about his Nutkin boon companion. Given I played Dark Knight during Shadowbringers and Paladin during Endwalker just like the promo, when I finally got to have Thancred show up during the Duty Support for Aetherfont, he wasn't in the party - and the way he tells Zero the obvious? ... I feel like that's where they're going with his story arc. While Y'shtola is living life to the fullest every expansion, no matter what the aetherial sea has to say about it, Thancred's getting... tired. :( (Never mind how his heroics went in Ultima Thule compared to Y'shtola.
Furthermore, the lyrics give a hint at the extremes going beyond this merely being a competition for the Scions.
"We're gonna walk right to the end, from a trial who we'll face. Turn back and transcend, or then give me a sign of faith."
Turn back and transcend (Light/Umbral/Stasis), or give me a sign of faith (Dark/Astral/Change)
I feel the others are along for the ride. But even their clothing's color schemes (as well as the emphasis on wearing white during Thancred's short story on the Lodestone, from Tales of the Shadow) contrasting with Y'shtola's deepest black... (note, her short story is also worth reading from Tales of the Storm. Even in the short stories, there's a keen contrast between them) It's going to reflect their ideologies. Now with everyone who's guided them on their quest to save the Realm since joining the Circle of Knowing since the days of Louisoix either joining the lifestream or becoming more colleague than mentor... how do these two extremely opposite characters get along? The perfectionist purveyor of knowledge taking life as she will, or the devil-may-care debonair finally feeling himself care hugely, muddled with grief and anger, and responsibility, especially for Ryne after over a decade of being the center of it.
Ultimately, I think Y'shtola's reckless abandon will catch up with her (especially in contrast to Athena's story arc in Pandaemonium, if you see how that ended), up against Thancred finally reaching a boiling point. Remember, he was the first of us to sympathize with Fandaniel at the Great Works...
I wouldn't post this anywhere else, but this is where we're exploring what we think will be coming in 7.0... And that's what I think it'll be.
    Y'shtola - Dark
    Thancred - Light
Not to mention, the fact that the Thirteenth and the First are a linked chain now, offering light to dark and dark to light, this contest is likely the domino to set off a new conflict of Light and Dark.
That's my conclusion. If I'm wrong, I'd be fascinated to see how the writers make use of the points I point out. But that's the root of the main conflict I think. And our answer for this contest will define who we are now to the reflections, not just the Source and the First: the Warrrior of Light, or the Warrior of Darkness.

This theory based only on one concept and my wild imagination, but I want to share it nonetheless.
Listen - ALIENS. What if this violet colored structure in one of concept is actually a base belonged to the race, who (crash)landed on Etheirys long time ago, perhaps even escaping from Meteion? Somehow, they detected that great force destroying prospering stars approaching them and they decided to flee, it would explain why this "purple nation" look so distinct from any old civ we know. Not ancients, not allagans either.
As to why this camp looks suspiciously military-like (not unlike garlean castrum), perhaps there was some internal struggle between members of the race - some wanted to peacefully coexist with natives, some wanted to retake for themselves by force. The latter won in this theoretic conflict and started to build armies and machines (Eliminator enemy definitely their creation). Somehow they went extinct - or destroyed by opposition - before they can reach three continents from their crashsite on Tural.
I won't be surprised if this race is a predecessor of modern Mamool Ja.
But hey, it's just a theory

Maybe a Karellian colonyship that left before Meteion arrived at their planet? Like Midgardsormr, they realized their homeworld was beyond recovery, so they explored other stars, only to encounter the devastation that the Meteia also witnessed, until finally ending on Eitherys. Yet while they were able to build a city, it was destroyed in one of the earlier Rejoinings. (Maybe Hyurs are descendants of these Karellians... we never actually get to see their faces during Endwalker...)

I'm still not really that excited about Viper, largely because I kind of think that swords have already been heavily overplayed in FF14 (and most fantasy settings) as a 'safe bet' weapon. Not only do we already have a dual-blade wielder in ROG/NIN, but we have PLD, DRK, SAM, RDM (and arguably GNB too) who also already use swords/swordlikes in general. I would have loved to have seen them give some other weapon type a bit of love, such as an actual warhammer/mace user (be it 1 or 2 handed), maybe flails to add some extra flare, or possibly even a Whip user since imo it would suit the 'explorer' image quite fittingly considering we're basically going on an "Indiana Jones" style adventure in search of a City of Gold. lol
Either way I'm sure Viper will be fun in it's own right, but I always get a little disappointed when fantasy games have twice as many swords as any other type of weapon since there are SO many to choose from throughout history.

As recently as last expansion, people were asking for "another sword DPS Job, maybe a dual wielder or something" saying we only had SAM and complaining because the other sword Jobs were all tanks (PLD, DRK, and GNB all using a type of sword) and debateably RDM (since most people consider its melee to be a small portion of its kit and it to be borederline using a magic staff instead of sword).
People have also been asking for a rogue/thief/swashbuckler Job for years now, complaining that ROG upgrades to NIN instead of something more like a D&D Rogue.
Then Viper was revealed and...I've seen tons of people complaining. Granted, lots of people seem extremely excited about it, it's just such an odd dichotomy to me since people have been asking for it for literally years now, but now that it's here, people are coming out of the woodwork to say it's uninspired, an overused weapon type, "do we really need another sword user", and so on.
I do agree more and less "normal" weapons are always nice to see (I love seeing axes more, and stuff like flails, spears, halberds, maces, staves as an actual melee weapon, whips, etc), but it's just very strange to me to see so many people saying this NOW.

I feel pretty neutral about viper. But the setting alone is enough to excite me

If gaming has taught me anything, then it's to seriously reign in any 'hype' and expectations. It's okay to be excited, but raising the bar will typically not end well.
Not even in FFXIV. The new job will probably be a very cool addition glamour-wise, that has me excited. As for its gameplay: I won't know until I play it.
And Endwalker has taught me how important gameplay is, since my preferred playstyle had been almost completely nuked (again). In the past 3 expansions and 6 years, Endwalker is - by far - the expansion I played _the least_ other than MSQ progression on my main and progressing on an alt.

I really think it was a missed opportunity to call the new job Swashbuckler rather than Viper.

    Love your video as always!
Personally, I was disappointed in Viper. I really didn’t want more swords. There are so many weapons they could have used to provide different flavor and glams. Swords… we already have: Paladin, Dark Knight, Gunbreaker, Samurai, Red Mage, and Ninja (let’s be real, most of Ninjas weapons in the game are long enough to be swords, they aren’t daggers any more).
Something like whips or nunchucks or 3-section staff/spear would have been suuuuper cool imo (and more snake/viper like tbh). So many weapons out there and they did more swords.

its a great time to be an omni-melee rn. personally, i think viper is infinitely cooler than the original speculation of corsair, as i hate pirate archetypes.

Do you really honestly think Viper looks interesting?
It looks like the most uninspired rote job I could possibly imagine. I cannot imagine what specifically anybody is excited by.

you could be an outlier, most statics are fighting for whom will use Viper next tier (heck, they kicked me out of melee to give the viper slot to one of our tanks haha)

I know a lot of people are really happy to have a dual blade of this style. I don't think we know enough about the skillset to find that inspired or not, but people being happy to see a weapon they want is very valid. A weapon is probably the most valid thing to be excited about for a new job when you think about a job's identity and theme.

When you say it is uninspired what you mean is it isn’t flashy. You can’t gauge the gameplay yet which at the end of the day is what actually determines the level of complexity and, for me at least, fun. For all of its flashiness the reaper, like the summoner, is a slow brain dead job that gets boring fast. And that’s not inspired it’s style over substance. I don’t mind that the job doesn’t glow in the dark. If the loop is fun I am in.
