Awesome to see a video talking about this deranged goldsmith. I've been following this bit of lore for years. Along with the Omega M/F, Halone, & Barbariccia minions that other mentioned, I've wondered if the Khloe, Zhloe, Yotsuyu, and Tsukuyomi minions were also created by him. I admit the link is pretty weak, but Khloe is creeped out by the guy giving her the minions and mentions how they are lifelike. The Yotsuyu one mentions how the goldsmith is "enthralled" with her beauty and the Tsukuyomi mentions the lifelike quality of the minion. I loved how the guy was brought up in actual MSQ in 6.x and hope we see more on this character.

I've been thinking about this lately and I am guessing that the new limited job in Dawntrail is going to be puppetmaster. My main reason for thinking this is that we had three direct mentions of the Gridanian goldsmith in the MSQ itself recently. One in 6.1, one in 6.2 and one in 6.3. For them to be right there in the MSQ and that dense in the story, it has to be foreshadowing.
It's definitely feels like Beastmaster or Puppetmaster and, as you said, there seems to be more lore in the game for a puppetmaster job. If this guy ends up teaching us puppet making/mastery then you know the story is going to be hilarious.

My thoughts are they only hanged a mammet version of himself. If, like it is supposed, he is a student of the Reaper Dollmasters, or is one himself, they are capable of crafting automata who are capable completing relatively complex tasks, if even in a robotic manner. No offense to Gridania, it is a city of Luddites and animistic zealots, so the possibility of him duping them isn't far fetched. Need I point to the Gridanian Investigator who couldn't do anything without us during the Halloween events? Now, what intrigues me is... has he only done female mammets besides Omega M? Has he done any of the non-humanoid mammets?
@@Yamidoragon Ooh didn't mean that euphemism, but meant more, crafted other male/genderless mammets. Since his goal was lifelike to the point of the OTHER euphemism, then some of the animal mammets could be a good point of easier creation.
I saw this and knew immediately what is was going to be about. I've been enjoying following this guy's story and have been really curious about him. I'm of the opinion of 2 possibilities to his identity: he's either a voidsent taking the form of a mortal like Papa Gruff from the Hallows End stories or he's an Ascian who makes dolls in there free time (we don't know the fate of like half of the Ascians). Both possibilities would explain why they can go to the 13th and back, explain how they get around voidsent areas easy and why their age might not really matter. I really am hoping they continue this into Dawntrail, it's really interesting stuff!
The Omega-F minion alludes to the fact he may be able to travel through the Interdimensional Rift like Gilgamesh. That would allow him to travel anywhere in space and time (and the FF multiverse) theoretically and explain how he could appear in so many places or different time periods.

I thought it was a mistake to watch this video before heading to bed... Glad I was wrong. I truly appreciate that you ended the video on a light note. :)
A lovely reading through and through. Something to pay attention to is plural versus singular when it comes to Latin. You tend to use the plural form for a single one (i.e. "a memoranda" should be "a memorandum" or "a succubi" should have actually been "a succubus"). Same with Greek! The correct form would be "this automaton" instead of "this automata".
I love this as someone who mains a chara who also is a doll maker (who I've been considering making into a strange - practically sentient - simulacrum maker following getting through EW recently), this is great! He's not into getting his rocks off though. I do enjoy the dark vibes of this story and hope it does continue into Dawntrail!
Good video, Funnily enough I wrote my own gridanian goldsmith script for a potential video idea if I ever wanted to get into making 14 lore vids. There is some things I would like to say. The gubal library normal journal I don't think is actually the gridanian goldsmith as it kind of fails to mention anything about his MO. The dude is obsessed with researching beauty and it does not matter what form it takes. The Gubal library journal no where mentions a goldsmith and does not mention beauty. But rather a guy that wants to bone a succubus. The only relation is the guy in the journal really liked lady amandine. Which the goldsmith did do a commission for her as read in the Red Mage quest line. Like I'm certain the actual goldsmith would find beauty in a mindflayer and not be repulsed like the guy in the journal. You also missed a few minions the goldsmith made, Omega M and F which hint that the goldsmith has obtained power over the Interdimensional Rift itself able to freely teleport around. He also made Azeyma and Halone minions. As well as the schematics for the barbariccia minion. His most recent mention was the 6.5 custom delivery quest with Margarette where they talk about him in one of the steps.
I can see us doing a follow up at some point in the future, and I'll look into including the minions you mention. Five seemed like plenty for this one. The story definitely isn't over. Regarding the authenticity of the Gubal journals, they do fit with what we are told by the squid-headed voidsent in Zero's domain, so it would seem odd to have those two references be allusions to a different random weirdo with a fetish for voidsent. ~ReiRei
If the next arc centers on Auracite like I think it will, this man may have been a victim of the Heart of Sabik like Athena. He will most certainly be more important the eventual 13th explanation.
The Echo could maybe explain how he knows what all the voidsent mentioned look like, regardless of the difficulty of reaching them. Tho he could also have created them from written descriptions/sketches, I guess. The bosses having them to drop is pure gameplay story segregation till shown otherwise imo.
(The man instantly appears when you ring a crystal bell, seems kinda like he can cross vast reaches of space instantly… AND he’s obsessed with beauty lol)
Curious… I’ll throw this here (sorry if it’s already mentioned) but what if the goldsmith’s body that was hung was in fact another puppet/mammet? If he had the knowledge to make one almost life-like, whose to say he didn’t just make a fake to make it seem like he died
Considering the “lifelike” mammets are always way smaller than the real deal, that leaves the door open for a running gag if we ever meet him, where the mammets of himself are clearly way too small to be him, but everyone falls for it anyway. No one noticed the guy they were hanging was only two feet tall
I can think of three routes. 1) eccentric mentor who is definitely dubious but ultimately harmless 2) eccentric mentor who is definitely dubious and ultimately harmful 3) straightforward antagonist, as you said
The Goldsmith is stalking us, perhaps living in our shadow like Midna from Twilight Princess (he'd definitely make a few of her!), It's the only explanation for a few of these mammets... While Succubus, Cloud of Darkness & Barbariccia (and the eventual Beatrice) are summoned from or in the Void, the others are most definitely unknown by anyone until WoL fight them, and even then, there's nobody around to see it... The Dun Scaith Void-Waifus were sealed away until a little before we fight them... Omega M/F minions can't possibly exist unless he was there with us to see it (Omega only transforms into M/F MID-FIGHT, and that was a few layers of pocket-dimensions deep, down a hole, with science people at the entrance, and nobody saw/detected anything?) Azema & Halone are implied to have been somebody's random encounters with the Phantom Realm, but with the descriptions, who's to say it wasn't at the same time we were there, and the writer was just being coy about it? And we don't have a Zero minion yet, but Reaper Zero was in the Source for a time, so one of her wouldn't be weird, but one of Paladin Zero would be sus if it isn't explained as someone from the Void making it... As for how he's be following us, he is a Garlean Reaper, so he's got stealth skills & Void Magicks to stay undetectable... Maybe he's bound to us like a Reaper's Avatar, or HE IS our Avatar, and only if we become a Reaper ourselves, does he "make it all official" (set up for 7.0 Reaper Job Quests?)! Regardless, I eagerly await the next waifu-minion with a sussy description!

Thanks for another entertaining and eyebrow-raising video! As much as I love the central story of FF14, a lot of the random, sparsely patched together sub-stories like this one often go over my head (or I just forget about them), so it's great to have people who actually piece these things together to show the rest of us all of the tiny little tidbits of the lives of characters we may or may not ever really come to know, but are there nonetheless. My first personally connects (and much more obvious) example of this was obviously the story of Edda, and that one ultimately left me feeling quite sad for the tragic end that she meets. I wonder if this one will somehow have a similar emotional payoff one day that only a handful of players will ever even discover? Either way it's great to see stuff like this since it makes me feel like the writers are having fun with these ideas over the course of the grander MSQ. :)
Great recap of the facts of the gridanian goldsmith... anything more recent in the timeline of the game is speculation, but... My theory is that he's now happily married somewhere with a wife with suspiciously wooden animation, and has a nearly unkillable halfbreed son. After the red moon came down, he decided to invest, returning to the land of his ancestors to build himself a place where people could come and forget about the misery of the world, while giving well paid jobs to many of the very poorest. His son would later mistakenly attribute his invincibility to an alien origin. He even returns to gridania every year, to play the patron saint of charity, in a cosplay that is good enough to fool anyone not actively looking for him, and give gifts to the children.
@@SilverNightbaneit’s not that weird, considering how important souls are to both Pandemonium and FMA. Just swap the Philosopher’s Stone for the Lifestream
I think his search for beauty has somehow led him into the Interdimensional Rift, where he crafts mammets of Omega-F and M, and then into Phantom Realm where he's glimpsed the Twelve. The indexes of individuals who could have done all these things is so small, it wouldn't be unreasonable to speculate that a living Warrior of Light is the Gridanian Goldsmith
The Phantom Realm alone isn’t very convincing, since it’s canon that people glimpse it all the time, generally without realizing it. The Omega-F and M, though, can’t easily be otherwise explained, since those forms only existed very briefly, and only three people were definitely there: Cid, Alpha, and the WoL. Cid is implausible, Alpha is impossible, and it wasn’t the WoL, so that just leaves one of the potentially non-canon other guys
The goldsmith might be able to travel between dimension just like Gilgamesh, or perhaps something involving more sinister magic like Nybeth Obdilord who basically transported his whole Palace of The Dead from another world to Eorzea. So much possibilities🤔🤔
Yo, is he Allagan? Remember Koh in Mor Dhona houses the soul of an Allagan archmagus. Could this dollmaker be the same? Cheating death through soul transference to dolls and whatever else he deemed fit?
The answer is simple. The man is the ultimate 'crazy girl' rizz god. His rizz could not only penetrate the abyss, but through the barrier between the shards itself. One day I imagine his rizz will revive the the lost shard freeing it from its dark prison.
My guess is that he's a descendent of the reaper dollmaker or was always a black masked minion dude, allowing him to basically ignore death. I forget, could the black masks travel between realms or was that a red mask exclusive thing?
I'm not gonna say he was right or sane, just that he got a point, some of them Voidsent lady's are fine. just not ... ya know ... 'get close to' fine, just 'shame she was evil and wanting to eat my soul' fine.
Altima was the member of the convocation that oversaw the arts. While their mask is in the procession of Gaius it was never said that Gaius was able to permanently kill Ascians

Ohhh he's out there. Waiting and watching. Watching and waiting. I think it'd be cool if he crafted his own vessel to transfer to though!
I always just assumed it was Godbert.
He probably faked his death by making a puppet replica of himself. A common trope among puppet master characters in anime and vidya.
I wonder how’d he’d have felt about Forgiven Obscenity
... the goldsmith is going to turn out to be an Ascian of some level, isn't he?
Well, we do have one Ascian who was obsessed with love, but he already had a lover
Altima was the member of the convocation that oversaw the arts. While their mask is in the procession of Gaius it was never said that Gaius was able to permanently kill Ascians
Aww, what a nice, wholesome story about a man looking for love 😃😍
He's a living Meme.
Man, I love Eorzean X-Files
I think he became Diablos after he died in gridania he can open a death gate and teleport around easily
Diablos was already part of Scathach's court by the times of Amdapor, and doesn't really fit the timeline
He's dead and but we'll have his spirit in a job crystal when puppet master comes as a limited job. Just kidding... maybe....
Well, we’ve already got a dead guy and a weird child living in our heads. What’s one more?
It's SANTA CLAWS! lol jk
Clause? Because we don't mention him in lore at all lol jk
This is what happens when incels get magic powers.
