    Didn't know that about Wuk Lamat's voice actor. Cool stuff.
    I could see Valagarmanda being less of a Standard Boss and more of a trial to prove our worth some way, with Valagarmanda ending up as a guide/presence throughout the rest of the expansion (and we may encounter them as either a Trial or a Dungeon Final Boss). That's really just assuming they actually take FF6 into consideration though. I could almost just as easily see if being a hunt we have to go on that IS just a trial boss. I do agree that Eliminator won't be a big deal in the long term. I could even see it just being essentially a door guard at the end of the tech dungeon as we make our way into Solution Nine in the first place.
    I'm not sure that the Mamool Ja we've seen so prominently in the promo material is going to be the Warmonger. That feels a little too on the nose for me (Well, of course the weird lizard man is the Bad Guy! No way it could possibly be the Cat People!). Even if we know the Mamool Ja in general are not necessarily a war like people, it would still be a bad look to have the one contender for the throne who is a Mamool Ja be "the bad one." Overall, though, I just hope that the Scions basically stay out of the race for the throne as much as possible. Given everything SE has said about being sensitive to the whole colonization angle so far I think they're aware of how bad that would look, but if the eventual winner only wins because We made them win it would, again, not be a good look.
    Completely agree with the end of video silly speculations too, in terms of both hopes and fears (and the reception to the expac by certain portions of the player base).

      For what it's worth, the latest live letter did confirm the warmobger is A Mamool Ja, although it's not THIS Mamool Ja. It's another two-headed one, I think the one we see fighting in the benchmark.
      ...which raises the question of who the guy on the poster is!

    My guess is "Solution 9" is one of the ancients' attempts to survive the Final Days that didn't work out. So named as it was the 9th solution to survival that they attempted. They built a huge subterranean complex intending to hide in it and survive, but something about the nature of the Final Days subverted that functionality so they abandoned it. It may have had computer banks and automation that managed the facility that still operate, and have been appropriated by whatever group found the place and took over.

    So I just wanted to say not all exonyms, names describing another culture that are not from that culture, are inherently bad. "The new world" is the exception, as much like in our real world it robs that culture of its agency. That said most English names for other places, people, and cultures are exonyms. Japan, Greece, Germany, and so, so many more. Usually they come about naturally, giving an entire people the name of their closest colony, in this case calling all of Tural Mamook(not certain on the spelling). In game we also see this a bit within Eorzean common with "Old Sharlayan" and "The Sharlayan Colony" which should technically have their names reversed, but the people of Eorzea went with the convenient and observed descriptions, as opposed to the true and local ones.
    I bring this up because it's really important to understand just how specifically bad "the new world" is as an exonym. They can be harmless, they can happen as an accident of new culture, but sometimes they are the result of men naming claimed lands after themselves, or worse erasing the local name to imply it's free to be taken.

    • @NoOne-gg5mc
      @NoOne-gg5mc 5 місяців тому

      Interesting that you mention it, because the lore states that Ketenramm (The Roegadyn who "discovered" Tural) did try to have the continent named "Ketenland", but no one humored him on that. That being said, I'm fairly confident that the "new world" exonym will be used very sparingly, since I'd imagine the majority of the npcs we encounter will be locals of Tural and would have no reason to call their home as such. Judging by how Wuk Lamat lightly mocked the "new world" term in the trailer, the native Turali probably do not think very fondly of it, promoting the scions to drop it very early on.

    • @bendonatier
      @bendonatier 5 місяців тому

      @@NoOne-gg5mc I'd imagine any use of "the new world" from here out will be akin to the use of "beast man" , in that the devs know why it's a problem, and are using it to examine the issue.

    • @LupusArcavius
      @LupusArcavius 5 місяців тому

      I figure if we see or hear the term “New World” being used in Tural it’ll likely be from recent transplants from Eorzea seeing as that’s what it’s called there for the most part. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Scions themselves occasionally refer to Tural as “The New World” out of habit

      It's one thing CBU3 has been really, really good about. I loved all the Indian and other regional voice actors they got for Thavnairans in EW. Seeing the way that the FF team incorporates real world mythologies into FF, then sprinkling it with actual real world flavor via the voice actors is fantastic (now that they have the budget to actually do it). I am honestly excited to see what else they bring, both in Dawntrail and going forward. Especially with Merycidia! With people comparing it to an Australia analogue, it would be interesting to see Australian, New Zealand, and indigenous peoples adding their voices. My bet is that Erenville is indeed a 4th adopted child, and a plausible but unwilling contender, and I'm really curious if it *is* true how that's gonna shake up the throne debate!
    Partially this is cause of how the poster is set up. If Wuk Lamat, the one-headed mamool ja, and the miqo guy with glasses are all contenders and presumably all children by blood or adoption of Gulool Ja Ja, then Erenville fills the empty spot.
    We're gonna have Wuk Lamat, who seemingly is only doing this to stop war but seems a bit unsure of herself (I'm betting she's the baby of the siblings) and what her plans are once she *does* get the throne. I think we're gonna see a big dynamic between the mamol ja guy who's gonna be hypertraditionalist and want war to prove his strength and might vs the miqo guy who went to Sharlayan and now wants to bring his homeland "to the modern world" aka very anti-traditionalist and maybe super focused on technology related to Solution 9. That's why we've got those two chars on the opposite side of the poster from Wuk Lamat and Erenville, who'll be the "good" choice for the throne whether for the entire story or simply at the beginning. And I bet there's gonna be a whole thing about why Erenville left, why he seems so agitated about going home and being involved in this, etc etc. I wouldn't be surprised if in typical FF tradition he ends up ruling as the middle central opinion bridging the gaps between his other potential siblings.
    (Obviously big caveat that I don't think we got any confirmation that the throne was only up to the Dawnservant's children? So I could be completely off, but the design of the poster feels like it's really setting the plot up in this fashion)
    EDIT: re-read this later and realized it came off as kinda "this is 100% how this will happen" and want to say I meant it in a "this is what I'm betting based off everything you've mentioned too" guessing tone, apologies!

    I've been trying to make sense of that sigil in the raid picture but I agree that there's not a great match with the corresponding XII symbols. I was wondering if it could maybe be multiple symbols combined, but if I recall the cases where we've seen that so far have had a pretty clear split down the middle.
    The other thing I had thought was maybe it's Azem's, since that one wouldn't be pulled from XII and there would be reason enough for Azem to have influence beyond Amaurot...but what bits of imagery we do have associated with Azem (the Scion Traveler's Mask, the old statue of Azeyma in Thanalan, and the summoning circle from the Azem stone) point towards a sigil with four very distinct straight lines at the bottom, which this new one is not. I'm intrigued to see where it goes.

    My theories on solution 9 range from the least likely (a civilization from the source that found a way to survive the second calamity, very unlikely) or more likely, a civilization from another shard that teleported the whole damn city. Either to escape a disaster or in a course of natural expansion having discovered the relationship between the source and shards. They arrive in the "source" and the first place they encounter sentient species is named "Heritage found". A civilization in an unbothered shard would have had 12,000 years to progress with science and technology which would explain the appearance. Them possessing mastery or just proficiency in shard travel could explain the "cosmic exploration" social content's presence.
    I am guessing the girl at the top of the key art is likely from solution 9 but the possibility of her being another in line for the throne is a possibility. I don't buy into the "digitized civilization" theory. Digital people don't need advertisements, bars, park benches, trash cans, service counters or aetherite networks. I do not believe they are a source native. I think they are Emet-Selch's "Some of the civilizations on the reflections will surprise you".
    As far as the "new world" terminology, I have a feeling it's here to stay and that's fine. It is new to us. Eastern continent people will likely still use the terminology and it makes sense. Applying a modern lens isn't the way to go. If one begins picking nits, Wuk Lamat's accent is a post colonial speech pattern. As far as Wuk Lamat goes, I really like her and I think she has a lot of growth opportunity that will make her super endearing. I've begun referring to her as Meownbryda and I don't know that I'll be able to completely shake that.

    I think, hilariously, Solution Nine maps onto Las Vegas. Which fits the neon tech city in the middle of a desert. The surrounding environs aren't Wyoming and certainly not Montana. I mean, if we want to get technical, that level of badland would work for Eastern Washington, which is a miserably dry place to drive through but also has some crazy geographic features. Shaalonai is more New Mexico/Arizona/Colorado than it is Texas (speaking as a Texan with family connections across much of the US). And the giant lake is a singular fantasy version of the Great Lakes. So Fantasy Canada is still cloud-covered at the moment. And Fantasy Pacific Northwest, which would be a great variation on rain-forest and volcanic biomes (and sadly I bet would only be used for a later patch dungeon). But it's Vegas and that makes the fan-fest connection funny.

Since we don't know much about the lead up to the first Umbral Calamity, and I don't like the idea that we went from the world unsundered to the 2nd Astral Era without much surviving records, I'm imagining it might be something from back then. solution 9 is way too advanced for a world that kept getting reset'ed to 0 every calamity (minus the 7th), the fact that there are many ascians we have not seen yet suggests 2 things, eithetr they were killed by WoLs of other shards, or they were working on the back-up plan should the rejoinings plan fail for any reason, which is solutuion 9, but then..emet mentioning the golden city over this may suggest that it's either not related to them or not as impressive as the gold city which is very,very exciting, now lets hope they don't make the golden city into a dungeon.

      Solution Nine surviving a few Calamities is plausible when you remember that most of the Calamities were squared on Eorzea. We do know that Bozja survived a bunch of them, after all.
      But as for the Ascians, I'd point out that we very famously dealt with one that went 'screw the rejoinings' after the unsundered all died.
