  • This video compares Universal Mold Coat & Glass Separator for coating fused glass slumping molds. Universal Mold Coat is made my Silica Synergy. Glass Separator is made by Unique Glass Colors.
This was originally 2 Periscope broadcasts over 1 hour long. I have condensed it for UA-cam.

The fact that they changed the packaging to something more messy and difficult has me not even considering product. Thanks again for your always informative and clear instructions. Keep them coming!

I like the idea of the UMC with the latex paint, have you ever try putting the mix through a sifter to remove any lumps?

I'm all in on the GS, but I don't have it in me to pay $12 for shipping to Seattle from them.
Great reviews, lots of tips and tricks, and helpful graphics to take it all in and save to my screen shots. Thank you Susan.

    Hi Susan!
Wouldn’t you coat the entire bowl , inside an out? I’ve yet to use a separator for anything other then my kiln shelf’s. I still cover with paper bc when I fired the bullseye kiln wash to dry the shelf’s , the whole inside top of my kiln 24” lid is all pink now. So I can’t seem to trust nothing other then the paper. Bullseye kiln wash ruined my top😀 do you have any idea why it is staying pink? I’m using my side burners only now bc I’m afraid the kiln wash is in my coils.. bummer bc this is my newest kiln I just got, I’ve only fired it up 3 times in 2 months an now this happened, I’m scared to use it.

I watched this previously, but just like in high school, I wasn't paying close attention. Do these products mask detail? If so, I guess they were designed for slump/drape molds and such. How do they stack up against BN? That stuff is getting expensive and you have to re-coat often.

Capt Mike like any kiln wash these definitely mask detail. I use boron nitrite for detail molds.

Susan, have you tried spraying the Glass Separator? I bought a jar and am fixing to try it out.

Capt Mike I haven’t tried spraying it yet. It should work out great.

Capt Mike I’m not positive since I filmed this long ago but the instructions are on their website, Unique Glass Colors.

I'm new to this so here's my question. Can I carve a firebrick to slump a bottle in a kiln?

Justin Case definitely. It will be a bit of work (wear a mask) and you’ll want to kiln wash it but it will work!

I've found that some people have their computer sound set to surround & that can cause difficulty hearing some videos filmed in mono. Go into your audio control panel, speaker configuration & change it from 7.1 to 2/2.1 I hope this helps!
