Pointless. The only characters most people would know on Destiny are the enemies like The Witch Queen . They killed the most iconic character in Cayde-6. Xur maybe? Are people supposed to be excited for Mara Sov or Asher Mir. 99% of gamers probably couldn’t even tell you who they are or what game they’re in. A show sounds cool and all but it’ll be better for anyone that’s NOT involved with the destiny game or it’s lore. I don’t see it being good for the loyal fan base. Just look at Cortana in this new Halo trailer. Makes me wanna gouge my eyes out. Not my Cortana. Destinys ONLY iconic character was Cayde-6 🪦
You know I didn't like Alex at first, but now I would rather have him and little Joe doing the gaming news then over Angry Joe's nose and headache inducing tirades

angry Joe "I dont think bungie is making a lot of money, its a risky move" yeah Joe theyre only valued and sold for 3.6 billion, but yeah they struggling to keep the lights on. do u ever think about what you say.
They are also making 500M dollars a year, and that will probably increase this year. Destiny makes shitton of money, and its one hell of a videogame, so I absolutely see a reason why sony would pay this much money for bungo and its ip.
@@lukas753331 They’re not worth 3.6 billion I’ll tell you that. MS got Minecraft for like 2.5. That’s one of the most popular games ever. Destiny doesn’t even come close to the amount of money that makes. Sony overpaid big time
Joe missed the mark on his take about destiny. A couple of things to note here: 1. Sony has a MUCH better track record than Microsoft of studio management. Look at the titles they've pumped out from naughty dog, Santa Monica, etc. 2. Alex is right. 50K player average for a 5 year old game is noteworthy 3. Destiny in the last year HAS been trying to add narrative DLC in response to fan backlash. I get it, Destiny is still a grind shooter that had a sloppy release, but you really should re visit the game. It's much different than your ignorant write-off criticism of it.
That's what I've always admired about Sony they started with way less but worked with thier independent studios and built great franchises from them MS not so much despite the billions
Actually, the 50k average is just for steam. Destiny 2 apparently has 700k users daily. I personally haven't played destiny 2(only played destiny 1)so I don't have an opinion on it but I think from a business perspective, this was a solid acquisition as destiny 2 generates around 100-500 million dollars in revenue every year.
It's not ignorant. The game at release was trash, nothing can change that. You can't blame people for just wanting something new fue to past experiences.
@@jmon6662 it's ignorant to have that opinion without understanding what the game has turned into. Not knowing something yet choosing to stick to his day one opinion of destiny is a textbook example of ignorance.
Very disappointed with the Bungie take. Instead of doing a bit of research, they jump directly to the conclusion that an acquisition of this size is done overnight out of spite like we are in a TV series. Please read the press releases before actually spreading misinformation
I can care less about Destiny, but the Sony acquisition is obviously bigger than Angry J is making out to be. Sony will def invest in Bungie expanding them. They are creating more devs under the Bungie name making Bungie sort of a publishing studio for other devs working on different projects. Only going to bring Bungie's value up. Bungie have a solid team and numbers. Sony did not spend billions just for Destiny, that is why they can care less if Destiny stays multiplat.
@@ThatGuy-du3sq you are exactly right. I am not a Destiny player but I think I saw that they announced 1 million pre-orders for their newest expansion. That does not sound like a dead game to me. Bungie are probably looking at big expansion with the help of Sony like you mentioned
Yeah, I hate it when they talk out of their asses. Even i, before even doing any research knew that Sony didn't just buy Bungie on a whim overnight and their take is the worst I've seen so far. Just a tad of research fellas?
20:10 Well according to Alanah Pearce it is not. She tweeted this ”Since I’m seeing a lot of folks saying it: I don’t see a world in which Sony acquiring Bungie is a “response” to Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. These deals take months - even years - to put together and finalize, not *two weeks*.”
Yup, no company just shells out 3.5 B on a whim. They have been watching too much Billions and think CEOs are like Axelrod who is out there burning money to spite people.
How does Alanah Pearce have any idea how multi billion dollar acquisitions work? Lol. Her opinion is probably correct but to state that deals take years comes from a place of zero knowledge of experience
@@Ruddy_Games if you buy a building with people living in it, that takes at least 6 months of negotiations. Why would a company with copyrighted software, technology and 1000 worker, plus real estate, take less than that?

I’ve got both consoles, love my ps5 and really love my Xbox series x, this hopefully will start shaking things up in both companies.
To me, Sony has bigger plans than just games. They can start developing a show. And with Destiny's huge fanbase you got a possible hit to sell to a streaming platform. I mean, Arcane being a huge hit made people want to explore the stuff Riot is working on that is not just LoL

@@iSylar18 why do you guys seem to forget Microsoft acquired Zenimax a year ago please stop talking about activision. We know it wasn’t a response to the activision deal. Use your brain.
According to a very reputable leak from early last year Bungie makes $350+ million every year from just in-game purchases. That doesn't even include big expansion sales or the people who bought the seasonal releases in a bundle instead of in-game. Destiny 2 easily makes upwards of $500 million every single year with an active playerbase of over 1.5 million players. Bungie had to pay ~$100 million to Activison to keep the rights to the Destiny IP. They made that money back in 1 season. I think you are remarkably out of touch with your examination of the Sony-Bungie deal.
You also understand that those 350 or 500 mil is yearly revenue, right? Not profit... also, it's a leak, so take it with a grain of salt... most analyst say that Bungie makes around 300ish to 400 million revenue per year actually... so, 100 mill profit, maybe? With that many employees? They are strugling to make a new IP that won't come out until 2025 iirc? At least until then, if there's no delay... Sony just wanted a shooter for it's platform seeing what happened with CoD, thing is, I don't see Destiny taking CoDs place. Dev team couldn't keep up with the demand for content and new released put by the contract with ATVI, you think now they will manage to crank content out to compete with Warzone? :)))

1st off, Sony didn't make this deal with Bungie in response to the Microsoft-Activision deal. They'd been negotiating this since last year, which Hermen Hulst tweeted about along with a picture of the meeting. Whatever you think of it, Destiny 2 it has over a million concurrent users; which is pretty impressive in a world where F2P BRs rule the roost and have most of the MP market cornered. It's well supported too. Also, Bungie has mentioned they planned to make a new IP by 2025, which is a part of why they're aggressively hiring right now. This deal with Sony helps accelerate that process. What's in it for Sony is Bungie's knowledge of operating & supporting online games over a long period, and expertise with FPS games. Two things Sony lacks nowadays: two birds with one stone. The other thing is Destiny is a big brand that could carry over to movies or shows. They mentioned in the press release this was a multi-media deal. Which fits well with Sony's business strategy.

If you think that Sony buying Bungie was a response to the Activision purchase, you're saying that they made a multi-billion dollar purchase in two weeks. They didn't. Come on, it's just coincidence. Sony straight-up said that they were buying a number of studios last year, and this is the latest one. Seriously I've heard this over and over again and now from Joe, and it's just dumb.
Don’t heard MS was shopping around so they responded in kind. Not sure why that is so hard for you to understand. MS already bought Bethesda as well…this is 100% in response to MS’s aggressiveness.
@@chrishewitt5826 So it's *not* a response to the Activision purchase? Good, we agree. Also, I don't think there's any real evidence that it was a response to anything at all, that's just something that the fanboys want to scree because they have short memories. Didn't hear this when they bought Insomniac, or Evo, or Housemarque, or Firesprite, or Bluepoint, or when they bought stakes in Epic, and Discord, and Kadokawa, and Devolver Digital. All of that was in just the past few years, and that's ignoring their buys outside video games, like Crunchyroll. Sony buys into shit all the time - this timing was just coincidence and people are reading way too much into it because they don't pay attention the rest of the time.
Destiny 2 in its current form is a far cry from Destiny 2 in 2017. Its basically an entirely new game, with content and story drops at least 4 times a year. This is some seriously outdated criticisms for the game.

Playstation probably wants to explore creating some sort of online (probably live-service) game using Bungie's tools.

Destiny 2's last 3 or more seasons have shown a TREMENDOUS upgrade to the story telling and overall approach Bungie is taking with the game. They also have already explained that a big reason for them not doing Destiny 3 was because they went independent and would've been spread too thin to keep content coming for Destiny 2 while simultaneously working on a sequel. This is something that the Sony purchase might actually help with. It's not a perfect game by any stretch and it still has its own issues that it will undoubtedly fight with throughout its life, but to say, "Where's something unique? Where's something where you put some fuckin' effort into the god damn story...?" is an argument by someone who hasn't touched the game since before September 2018. This is in part biased because I am a fan of the game, but I do think that while there are definitely arguments on why Destiny 2 is in a shitty spot, such as its absolute clusterfuck of a setup for new players, its lack of support for certain pillars of the game, and the way certain content is split amongst certain season passes, I don't think a good argument was made in this video.

Seems a little harsh, but then again it was a rather nasty crash and burn that hurt all the more thanks to the previous launch of D1.
Destiny 2 has serious problems, even worse than destiny 1. It has TAKEN OUT CONTEN FROM LAUNCH, and it's now even removing past dlc that PEOPLE PAYED FOR (for seemingly no reason, seriously why remove content from a game?). That is shitty and uneccessary. Add to the fact that every new DLC every year costs more than 50$ and also extra money for season and why do you even think people don't like Destiny? I'd rather not spend 200$ a year on Destiny when I could instead spend that on much better games. I loved Destiny 1 despite it's flaws, but Bungie has made Destiny 2 so live service that it's just not what it used to be. Maybe Sony might influence Bungie to finally make Destiny better, but I'm not exactly optimistic.

It takes more than 2 weeks to acquire a billion dollar company. I doubt this was a knee jerk reaction. Sony bought them because they want a live service company to make them money.
I like how Alex tried to calm Joe down by saying that the game has 50k concurrent players but that's only on steam alone. The current average is sitting at 739k players.
It’s a smart move by Sony. They get the code for live service which they currently lack. If tlou online blows up they can release it on pc and make that 3.6 billion back really quick.
Come on guys, Sony didn't buy Bungie for the IP's. They are interested in a studio with experience in online shooters and live services. Most of those studios were already owned by bigger companies, Bungie was probably the biggest freelancer. If I think this deal was overpriced? Yes. If I think Bethesda was a better deal? Hell yes. But this was not a weird move like you're insisting it is.
Sony had to have liked the other IPs Bungie has in the works, the ones they got that huge investment for a while back, to push the price that high. Also him saying it's a response to Microsoft is ridiculous as this deal was reportably in the works for around 6 months, while the Microsoft/Activision deal was apparently only around 3 months so it has nothing to do with that. Sony absolutely needed a presence in the live service and online pvp shooter space and they got an industry leader in both, #1 in live service, in a single deal. Buying Bungie may have been cheaper than building that infrastructure themselves, or acquiring it piece by piece, conjunction with Destiny's IP and the other working titles Bungie has. Sony also owns movie and TV studios and the Destiny IP has potential to make them money there was well. Destiny is ripe for a TV show if done correctly. Sony isn't stupid, they've been leading the gaming(console) industry for a while now, I can't see them paying that much without good reason, even if game companies are going for well over marker cap right now.
"No one wants more Destiny 2!" Meanwhile, Witch Queen hit over 1 million preorders, and it's in the top 10 most played games on Steam with 60k players each day. And that's in the down period before a major DLC. Methinks Joe is full of shit.

The tech Bungie has can be utilized by other studios owned by Sony now. This seems like a wacky purchase but in the long term Sony now has access to some of the best mechanics in FPS history. They could use this for a fresh IP, a new KillZone, a new Resistance or enhance an already existing franchise. This was a solid purchase for the Tech alone. Now Bungie has the freedom and money to do what they want how they want it. Honestly, it's like people are furious about cosmetic things then microtransactions that give an actual upper hand.

Which is why it's so important to stress the fact that Bungie has made improvements on the game and it's lore and destiny at the moment has some of the least pay to win/ game breaking features in the current live subscription service world we live in. Not excusing them, just wondering why people bang on the old drums from back at launch like it's accurate or indeed factual to the current status of the game, or it's future.
The cost of Bungie was kind of weird. 1 studio and 1 IP for 3.6 billion. For twice that Microsoft got 7 studios and like 12 IPs. Insomniac was 1/10th the cost of Bungie.
Microsofts' acquisition of Mojang for $2,5 billion seemed like a crazy investment because it only came with one studio and one game, but since then Minecraft became the best selling game of all time with over 200 million copies sold. But I very much doubt Destiny will ever get to that level
Well, Bungie did create one of the GOAT fps franchises and Destiny--while it's impossible to call it ideal even with my 3000hrs--is still a money maker. BUT, Lightfall next year is more or less guaranteed to be the final chapter, as the story has run its natural course and the final showdown seems pretty well imminent with how we've assembled our own Avengers squad and the Darkness' leader has been teased. On top of the revenue from everyone tuning in to the finale, Destiny will conclude and Bungie will move on to their next big thing, which on merit of it's fanbase will make lots of cash dollars. IMO 4 billion for a studio with their pedigree is generous but hardly a waste.
While Destiny 2 is a good experience, for a looter shooter, I’m also hoping we will see some new games from Bungie after this acquisition. By the sounds of it, Bungie may get enough new employees to make multiple new IP’s while continually updating Destiny 2. I just hope they don’t become exclusive.
I’m sure it will be launched in PC too, Sony is slowly moving from purely console exclusives and I’m sure they don’t want to keep Bungie games only in their platform bc that would hurt sales, and unlike MS Sony needs all the money they can get from sales
The Destiny slander and stereotyping is what keeps people from experiencing what a massive and wonderful game it is now. Admittedly, big undertaking to start and commit to it, but there's so much content and so much love in the game currently. This acquisition should put more money into this franchise that will only elevate it. Its going to be a bright future for Destiny and the players of it.
@@alek3974 All the good content is either locked behind a paywall or hours and hours of grinding and for some reason they keep removing a ton of content which is great
That’s what happens when you withhold content that was already made at release, only if to sell it as DLC later on. If you’re into get suckered then it’s no wonder you enjoy it.
Joe has such horrible takes about it. I don't pay for microtransactios in destiny, but they're barely no more than just skins. Yeah they are greedy as hell with stuff like what they did with their transmog system and that they're selling dungeons nowadays instead of them being part of the season pass. But it's such a great game otherwise, I'd argue these guys would enjoy the lore if they gave it a chance
This video show perfectly like Joe knows absolutely nothing about Destiny, but he hates it so the purchase is stupid. Funny. Bungie is working on new IP for some time now. It is not a secret. Also Bungie is financialy very successful. They expanded their studio and started working on other projects from Destiny universe. They are VERY successful.
I played D2......and its basically relies on dopamine and FOMO to get people to play. When the community goes 'well it's Bungie, this is all we can get' it's not a good community, They whine about how they don't win 'best community' awards, not realizing that supporting the devs and taking it up the ass are two entirely different things. They are separating dungeons from other DLCs and expansions are becoming smaller but the same price. If they want to be best community, first thing they gotta do is stop praising them taking one step forward after taking 5 steps back. I'll believe it when their transmog system is like how every other transmog system is. No cap, no grinding needed, in game currency to get the mat and no seasonal cap for it. Yeah successful, yet they want to add more and more monetization on a seasonal model, they themselves claimed wasn't sustainable. Even when people admit that the price of previous DLCs were overpriced and not worth it, they still buy it. This shit is FIFA and MADDEN style of community.
I also find it funny that derith (I think that’s how you spell his name) reviewed both forsaken and shadowkeep and said they were decent and gave fair criticisms. The most experience joe probably has is being recommended one of Paul Tassi’s articles
@@khangdinh5477 what’s he supposed to do? Be happy that Sony paid that much for a studio that only has 1 IP💀they won’t make them billions back for years lol if Sony bought rockstar he’d probably also be happy in this video
Sometimes AJ just shows how little he knows about the gaming industry… no, Sony did not buy Bungie out of pettiness in response to Microsoft. Deals like this don’t go through in a couple weeks like wtf 😂😂😂
Another great video guys! The Bungie acquisition is a lot more strategic than you think. Sony’s 1st party’s brand is action rpg, they bought a studio who focuses on shooters, narrative driven stories, and highly successful live services. They are filling in the holes in their repertoire. Also, the studio they bought doesn’t have millions of dollars worth of sexual harassment lawsuits.. so that’s nice.
@@wolfdragox5563 I don't think you're wrong. Honestly, they are definitely taking a gamble here. Bungie has proven themselves, but their only guaranteed revenue is Destiny, and that well is definitely drying up.
@@battlerifle8642 I heard there were reports of toxic culture, not surprising based on what we know about the development of the early halos, but I haven't heard about any substantial lawsuits. Do you have credible information you could share?
Sony is buying Bungie for their multi-platform infrastructure and experience, so they can get in on multi-platform live service games and make a Fortnite of their own. D2 will continue as it is for the next 3 years or so. Might not be your cup of tea for the moment, but those of us who are Destiny fans are fairly happy with it.
Yeah my expectations for lightfall and final shape have greatly increased even though I think they can add just a bit more continent to final shape because all of it's pretty much been developed by now with some exceptions but final shape I think that's going to be a forsaken taken King level expansion and I think it should be seeing as it's going to be the final chapter in the light and dark Saga that they've made over the past 10 years
Destiny 2 is popular for a reason. It has a solid community for a reason. It’s an example of a live service game done right. Don’t let these guys sway you into thinking bungie is like EA or Activision, Bungie love D2 as much as the fans do, that is RARE.
I have a love hate relationship with D2. I have put over 1000 hours into the game and enjoy it but I bloody hate the stupid drop mechanics. I had to quit the game for a couple months after getting the same Exotic Head 12 times in a row. I haven't run into that again since and that was well over 2 years ago. D2 is the shooter I always come back to. PvP is hella fun and PvE is there for those who dont like PvP. Raiding now is easier then ever before. Cross play makes playing with your friends stupid easy. LFG app has been updated several times making it easier to join and find people doing the content you want to focus on. Really the only thing I genuinely hate about D2 is that Bungie vaulted content. That just pissed me off. Outside of that D2 is an amazing game and really fun to play, especially with friends.
@@margitthedissaprovingomen3921 This is very true haha, thankfully I love it more then I hate it. The 30th Anniversary was a lot of fun and going back to the loot cave brought me back to my D1 days when I sat there with a couple buddies and just went to town. D2 since Bungie left Activision has felt a lot better. I get to enjoy many facets of D2 from Raiding to PvP. There just isn't a game like D2 on the market. D2 has some the greatest mechanics of any FPS. Its a shame so many people just don't want to give it a chance now, especially since its free to play and anyone can get a taste of what D2 has to offer now. I would say that last 3 seasons have been particularly spectacular.
For Bungie, I think it's not really about the current line up of their projects, but rather the potential they hold. Destiny is a large franchise that Bungie has stated they're expanding on outside of Destiny 2. This could be in the form of spin-off games, movies, and shows. But I think the main thing is that Sony doesn't have a studio that specializes in live service media until now (please correct me if I'm wrong on that). Sony's gaming studios all have great communication with one another about how to best make use of the PlayStation's technologically, and adding Bungie means that they can share information with one another about live service features from Bungie, a very experienced live service game. Also, Sony doesn't have any in house studios making first person shooter exclusives, so if anyone is going to, who better to do it than Bungie? Destiny 2 has been super shaky in the past few years, but the last year of it was very successful. And you have to remember how loyal the Destiny fanbase is, because that's the kind of audience that makes a company lots of money.
Will Bungie expand into other forms also like they are doing Destiny? Aka 1-2 years after they release a show, some episodes from it will vanish? Or some parts of another game will be taken out? :)))
I see the Bungie acquisition by Sony as a safeguard for them. When Microsoft decides Sony doesn't get to have Call of Duty anymore, Sony needs a studio with strong roots and expertise in the FPS genre to rise to the occasion. Bungie's still free to develop their games as multiplatform under Sony, as well, which they probably wouldn't have been if MS outbid Sony.
I'm not sure about that. The most successful games on PlayStation is somehow COD. I think it's hot trash but I must admit that it is essentially pop culture at this point - everyone's nan even knows what it is, ya know? Bungie even in its heyday was pretty dwarfed by COD - and that's coming from someone who likes Halo more. Besides, COD is to remain open, isn't it? As id Bungie and its future titles, they've already confirmed this.
Well with Microsoft now owning cod, that's up in the air. Usually with them they love exclusivity but thats a hunch really. But yeah im definite that in all this deal making Sony did with bungie, bungie will have full reigns. To be honest I thought they would buy ea with battlefield originally but since ea is not doing well with its games recently being flops but again I never saw this coming
Acquiring bungie is not a threat to Microsoft man even if it was or wasn’t intended to be. So many of the golden bungie developers don’t even work there anymore, correct me if im wrong but the only big IP bungie owns now is destiny 2 I think & that franchise was a prime example of how NOT to do a game, 500 million dollar project my ass
I think the sad thing is that Joe and the crew don’t understand just how much Destiny 2 has massively improved over the years. The story is leaps and bounds better than the launch of D2. Gameplay has seen so much improvement. Visuals and audio are consistently some of the best in the industry. You don’t need to make a sequel to make progress. Also, regarding microtransactions. Everything is direct purchase; there are 0 loot boxes. Bungie has even directly told how the money of the microtransactions directly funded new content. This game isn’t a microtransactions driven game. The community would’ve left if it was.
Yeah, it's literally my favorite game because of all these things and more. I understand not giving it another chance, but they should at least do their research to see how it's one of the biggest games in the world. I did appreciate that Alex pointed out it's consistently concurring around 500,000 players a day
That's the biggest thing about Destiny 2 they have gotten away with less content and lazy past DLC's because the gunplay and visuals are some of the best in the industry even 5 years down the line
Joes bad take on the while bungie acquisition and the whole destiny 2 rant while admitting the game has gotten better just proves how much of a child joe can be. Would rather have destiny 3 because “hype.” Wtf ? No really wtf kind of take is that???

Its hillarious how uninformed Joe is regarding Sony acquisition of Bungie. Deals like this takes months to sort out before it being announce. To say it just a retaliation punch towards MS is just plain silly. Buying a studio doesn't just entail buying their IPs but also their technologies and expertise which imo where the true value lies on. They can make something unique and interesting from it and not just milking currently available IP. What the hell Joe?
I don’t know what Destiny did to this dude. I’ve seen him rail on games before, but not on functional games that people actually like. Alex tells him how popular it is, but he wants to live in a world where his opinion is always right.
Damn, the Bungie/Destiny hate is real in this video! But it's of no consequence, to be honest, Destiny 2 is thriving, it's a great game, many of us enjoy it and want more. This is great for Sony and Bungie.
19:16 Alex: Okay, so in other news, Microsoft has purchased Bungie for an astonishing $3.7 billion dollars. Joe: I heard! I heard about that. That's in'saaaaaane'. Microsoft is unstoppable. OJ: Yeah. Joe: Call of Duty, Halo, Destiny. They're an FPS king at this point. Alex: Sony's in trouble. Sony's in trouble. Joe: Oh for sure. I don't know what's going on at Sony but they need to get their shit together. Bungie, wow. Alex: Yeah. Okay, so onto Warner Brothers now-
He just got done talking about how so needs to buy some studios a couple weeks ago. Now they buy bungie and he acts like it's a bad thing. I think he is back to being an xbox fanboy.
Bungie has 1100 devs and plans to grow to 2000 devs to work on two triple AAA games at the same time. For comparison Naughty Dog has around 400-600 devs.
Sony buying Bungie for 3.6 Billion is ridiculous lol especially when you compare what Microsoft got from spending 7.5 Billion for Zenimax/Bethesda. Bungie is one studio that owns 1 IP and they arent the same Halo Bungie team anymore either.... That is a HUGE overpay.
Sony has never really bought companies based on IP’s they buy for the talent that comes with it. They can’t afford to waste money so of course this is a good purchase we just don’t know it yet.
So apparently Bungie has about 900 people working there, that's about 1/10th the workforce that Activision has, so in terms of price per-head of human productivity this is actually an ok value, except the IP held by Activision/Blizzard/King easily makes up for the other $30 billion value, where Destiny is basically the only IP that Bungie has and it's only valuable to Playstation because Sony forgot how to make shooters. The guys at Insomniac are probably furious when they're making all of Sony's best games and were only valued at $229 Million. Ouch.
They didn't forget how to make shooters. Insomniac don't want to make anymore resistance games and Guerrilla have found their footing making horizon. The 2 big developers that did make 1st person shooters are choosing to do other things. I don't think Sony are focusing on owning past IPs when it comes to Bungie, so the value so to speak is more in regards to the long term. Perhaps a new IP hopefully, admittedly Sony need more diversity when it comes to their big games, though judging by the statement I'm unfortunately expecting a live service game.
I think you're forgetting Santa Monica studios and guerilla studios the guys who are now making God of war Ragnarok and horizon forbidden West And I think it's a pretty clear majority that says God of war 4 is better than insomniac's spiderman
Theirs 3 fps game already scheduled killzone, resistance by the days gone devs and a new ip by firewalk which is where most of the old good bungie devs went.
We know what a digital secondary market can do for gaming. We’ve had that for 10 years or so. No later than when Diablo 3 tried to pull that off with the auction house. We tried it out (forced to),weighed the pluses and minuses, and we came to an educated conclusion that it was crap.
Love most of Joe's stuff but he's off on Destiny, it's not for everyone obviously but it's pretty solidly the best live service style game. I know this channel's style and preference doesn't really mesh with keeping up with a game like Destiny every few months, but the last year has easily been one of the best years of Destiny history. I've played Destiny on and off for the history of the franchise, and it's certainly had it's downs; but there's definitely a reason Destiny has lasted when most competitors can't even last a few months
Fortnite, CS:GO, Apex, LoL, Dota, R6S etc are live service games, so pretty much billions of people's game choices would disagree with destiny being the best live service
@@rancidblock5615 while technically true, that's not what most people think of as a "live service" game, but if you want me to be more specific, story driven/looter live service I guess. None of those games come close to the content style of Destiny. I was more comparing to failures like Anthem, games clearly created to try to take some of the Destiny playerbase but constantly fail
According to Jez Corden Bungie were actually offering a cheaper price to Microsoft, but Microsoft thought it was too much and turned it down. I definitely think Sony Overpaid though, when you think that Mojang, who own Minecraft, one of the most popular games of all time, sold for 2 Billion and Star Wars sold for 4 billion. So I guess Bungie is worth more then Minecraft and almost as much as Star Wars.
Look, I get the skepticism, but can you PLEASE give The Witch Queen a shot when it comes out? If it gets good reviews? There’s a lot of core overhauls to the game and it’s BASICALLY Destiny 3 in terms of the scope.
He won’t cause he plays games at launch and won’t touch it again if he thinks it’s shit, EVEN if the game gets better. Like did you hear his rant talking about destiny 2? He ain’t never gonna touch it like he’ll never touch any jrpgs that are turn based

With NFTs it's not even about the whole "it's not real stuff", it's the play to earn mentality that is damaging. When people are playing a game for completely different reasons than others (people playing for fun and to complete objectives together).
You guys are actually wrong, Joe. Bungie posted a FAQ on their webpage regarding this purchase and what things it would change. Basically it wouldn't change anything at all, and at the end, it states that any future games or new IPs will NOT be exclusive. Bungie wants to remain completely independent, autonomous and multiplatform, which was a big part of this deal with Sony.
@@wolfdragox5563 They were not "scammed" that is such a silly and ignorant thing to say. If you read the post from Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony, he clearly talks about this. 1. Sony has a MUCH better track record than Microsoft of studio management. Look at the titles they've pumped out from naughty dog, Santa Monica, etc.
2. Alex is right. 50K player average for a 5 year old game is noteworthy
3. Destiny in the last year HAS been trying to add narrative DLC in response to fan backlash.

That's what I've always admired about Sony they started with way less but worked with thier independent studios and built great franchises from them MS not so much despite the billions

DeStInY iS a DeaD gaMe! /s
Bungie opted for focusing on a big expansion to change 60% of the game rather than half baked game every 2 years

Didn't hear this when they bought Insomniac, or Evo, or Housemarque, or Firesprite, or Bluepoint, or when they bought stakes in Epic, and Discord, and Kadokawa, and Devolver Digital. Come on guys, Sony didn't buy Bungie for the IP's. They are interested in a studio with experience in online shooters and live services. Most of those studios were already owned by bigger companies, Bungie was probably the biggest freelancer. If I think this deal was overpriced? Yes. If I think Bethesda was a better deal? Hell yes. But this was not a weird move like you're insisting it is.
I honestly didn't expect to see so many people in AJ's comments actually using their brains. Thank you.

Sony is known to not be overbearing with their Studios but letting them do what they want, providing they show what they are working on and are not just wasting resources. I don't think this was a jab at Microsoft as this deal was probably being worked on behind the scenes for numerous months and probably before Microsoft even sought to buy Activision/Blizzard.

Why is destiny always attacked for "no innovation" and "microtransactions" when other studios like bethesda, ubisoft and activision do it worse. Hell people are mad about destiny "in game store", but they are not mad about the fact that Warzone contains weapons (usually OP) from their other games. YOU HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE GAME AND GRIND IT TO UNLOCK AN OP WEAPON IN A COMPETITIVE SHOOTER. Why is this not criticized, but destiny having an ingame store is? Honestly, it's like people are furious about cosmetic things then microtransactions that give an actual upper hand.
Facts. I would also like to add that destiny players have also proved that if you don't want to buy in to their season passes... You dont have to, you can still play the game for decent loot and as far as pvp goes they can get the same ratios albeit with a (naturally) smaller range of weapons/ armors to choose from.
Wtf is this disengenuous worthless post? people do go after beth, ubisoft and activsion too for that. Its all very intensely criticized, very often. in this video too infact. People are mad at those things you mention. People can be mad at multiple things, all for reasonable reasons. The arguement does not excuse bungie from what it did with destiny.
the "its just cosmetics" arguement was shot down 10 years ago, its long since been shown the MTX system is screwing over proper game development, cosmetic or otherwise.
@@tenjenk while I do agree with you on the general attitude towards payed services as a whole, I don't necessarily think it's an "disingenious worthless" post. If you go to YT and see the vids coming out with news about the buy in, not everyone is as informed or as active in Destiny and just remembers their floppy launch and payed content.
Just can't agree with Joe when he talks about Destiny 2. It's better than ever, certainly better than when he reviewed it back in launch.

Well yeah I bought the game at launch and it was shit.
I’m not waiting around for updates/patches or DLC for a year or 2 before it gets better.🤦🏽♂️
They are profitable, and do what they need.
“For twice that”
3.6 billion “twice” isn’t 68 billion
You might wanna check your math on that "twice that" claim
While Destiny 2 is a good experience, for a looter shooter, I’m also hoping we will see some new games from Bungie after this acquisition. By the sounds of it, Bungie may get enough new employees to make multiple new IP’s while continually updating Destiny 2. I just hope they don’t become exclusive.
They have at least one in development but it remains to be seen what else they'll come up with
I’m sure it will be launched in PC too, Sony is slowly moving from purely console exclusives and I’m sure they don’t want to keep Bungie games only in their platform bc that would hurt sales, and unlike MS Sony needs all the money they can get from sales
I find it quite disturbing that even though a majority of the consumer base says they don't want NFTs they take it as a go-ahead to keep pushing NFTs.
yeah... pretty un-consentual...
Destiny still deserves the slander
Destiny is mediocre, at best. No ammount of shilling will change that. Go and play your low-standard, microtransaction-ridden, live-service game.
Their yearly revenue is about 200 million per year, that's not too bad, it's about as much as Zenimax or Bethesda Softworks.
I also find it funny that derith (I think that’s how you spell his name) reviewed both forsaken and shadowkeep and said they were decent and gave fair criticisms. The most experience joe probably has is being recommended one of Paul Tassi’s articles

@@MonsieurDeVeteran in 2 years destiny 2 will be completely sunset, and then we'll get a Myth sequel called History.
I doubt bungie would go back to Microsoft. There was a reason they left

Bungie wants to remain completely independent, autonomous and multiplatform, which was a big part of this deal with Sony.
So...what’s the point of buying Bungie then? you made it sound like Sony was scammed
@@wolfdragox5563 They were not "scammed" that is such a silly and ignorant thing to say. If you read the post from Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony, he clearly talks about this. It's not about IPs or exclusivity, but technology, internal codes and experience regarding live service multiplayer games. It's also about expanding into other media such as films and the like, which Bungie wants. Keep in mind that Bungie is a big company with around 900 employees, so what Sony got was their staff skills, the technology they've developed and of course a piece of Destiny's profits, while Bungie got financial security and a foothold into the multi-media industry.
@@Nickulator yeah ik they weren’t scammed I wasn’t being serious with that, I definitely don’t see it as a great investment but whatever, I’m not a shareholder of Sony so I can’t care less about if they lose or gain money from this, I just wish they invested that money on something else, Sony’s idea of going multimedia Isn’t really exciting for me at all bc they’re very hit or miss with that, but we’ll see
