We have too many options, bombarded by excessive information, shrouded by our own human level issues, so naturally creators would love to capitalize on that for that "awe" factor. It's easier for us to blame games, than to admit maybe we are just a tat bit too miserable to enjoy games, or we let our frustration with other humane stuff embody itself in an argument that "games are just worse now". This industry has A LOT to criticize, some stuff are 100% worse than it was in the 2000s, but these people's arguments had no merit. And a bad criticism that gets pumped into a large audience, is nothing but a smoke screen distraction of actual problems. Great video bro, do more content like this.

Great video. I agree, I think if "gamers" spent more time playing games, or searching for new games, instead complaining about them, they'd be more positive about the generation. I'm biased because I have a gaming PC and we've come a long way since the sometimes substandard ports of the 360/PS3/Wii era, but there's so much out there now. There's an argument somewhere in there about being tired of AAA games, but just browsing the indies on Steam will make your head spin. Over 50% of my Steam library is indies. Why don't the "real gamers" just search harder for different games or do a deep dive into a genre they really enjoy? Answer: it's because they're casuals. I'm gatekeeping for comedic effect, but I understand why some console gamers are disappointed that their $500-600 box doesn't seem to have a lot of "true" exclusives that make them happy with their purchase. But games are so expensive to make now. The age of the exclusive has long been over, and it was a great era, but anybody still banging that drum to return to it doesn't understand the market. The games are out there. We might need to search a little harder to find that smaller game in between the AAA stuff we like, but they're there. People gotta put down the sports games, the Minecraft, the Fortnite, and the CoDs for a bit and look.
Thank you! Well said! For real, I agree it seems like a Casual vs Hardcore gamer perspective. Unless they are fed games to play by the media. They'll never find them. It only takes a bit of research and they'd find a crap ton of games to play. And hell, there's nothing wrong with playing older games too. I love sprinkling in playing Xbox 360 and PS3 games throughout the year. I also just replayed U.N. Squadron on the SNES. Not because the current Gen sucks. Because it's nice to mix in old games too.
I agree that they are being very disingenuous. The Issue is not that games are bad, but that they themselves don't try anything new or out of their comfort zone. Then proceeded to complain how the same franchises are the same, how franchises stray too far, and how older franchises are dead. But complain about remakes, re-releases of classics, and about weird spin-offs. make it make sense. They just felt out of love with games and its fine, granted some publishers do deserve to be criticized.
The whole time watching their videos, I couldn't help but think they just dont like games anymore. The way they talk about them as if they've fallen off a cliff just confused me. There are so many games to play! Thank you for the comment. I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this.
@@linktothelight Its hard to take them seriously when they didn't bother to play or acknowledge some of the best/fun/unique game releases like Lies of P, Elden Ring, BG3, Armored core 6, RE4 remake, FF7 Rebirth, High on life, High Fi Rush, Scorn, Persona 3R, Like a Dragon IW, etcc We live in an era where Japanese games that never came to NA are coming over constantly and we get them day one for the most part.
At what point last gen did they stop making games compatible for the generation before that? Part of the hate surely stems from people believing that games aren't being made to their highest potential on console since they are still compatible with the generation before. I think they assume that if a game is able to be played on PS4, then it devalues the game as a whole.
I can see that argument to a certain degree but two of the best looking games this Gen are Residentl Evil Remake and Horizon Forbidden West and they are also on PS4. It's honestly the same as PC if we think about it. They make different levels of graphical settings for weaker and stronger PCs. The PS5 = GTX 3080 and the PS4 is a GTX 1080. Both versions can exist without limiting the best version.
I swear alotnof gaming youtubers just have grown up. They just arnt really into all games anymore and just play games that are popular. I play video games almost everyday. I'm still having fun.
Personally I think we get good once in a blue moon games like Jedi Survivor and RE4. But a lot of slop in between. Maybe because I just don't want to try stuff like Baulders Gate because I'm not into fantasy games and most indie games don't stand out to me. Also many games release broken and unfinished. Also I don't like this push for digital gaming. But there's been good games I can admit.
Totally with you on the digital only. Physical forever, my friend! I actually still haven't played Wukong cause I want the Physical version. Same with Dead Rising Remaster. Trying to hold out for Physical on that too.
You were stronger than me on that one. I couldn't resist lol. I also ordered that Collector's edition, though. Even though I much prefer the 1st game, I had to have anything Alan Wake.
I don't mind the remakes, but it's just getting really boring. The main thing I miss from the 2000's is the amount of weird games we'd get. The kind of weird that felt like the idea came to the creator while they were at a bar with their co-workers. Or the kind of weird that feels like it spawned from a dare. "Hey! I dare you to make a God of War clone based on the 3 Little Pigs. " We still get those occasionally, but not like we used to. Some of the most recent examples I can think of would be Nier Automata, Lies Of P, Biomutant, a turn based RPG where everything is made of cards, and probably the Skautfeid series. Especially the second one that was like Bloodborne meets Streets Of Rage
I can see that point. But I will say I have played a lot weird games this gen too though. Atomic Heart last year was pretty weird. Dead Island 2 was a fun weird funny zombie game. Ghostwire Tokyo was weird and Returnal was a weirdish Sci fi shooter. A couple more and I know there remasters, but I'm excited to play Lollipop Chainsaw again and Shadows of the Damned Remastered is another. Definitely weird games if you haven't tried them. Hopefully we get sequels for those! Also, what is the God of War clone with 3 little pigs. That sounds awesome lol.

Yeah, I think that's an issue with a lot of gamers. If a bunch of games are announced and none of them are the type of games they love. They hate on the whole press conference. I feel happy if I find 1 or 2 new games in a whole press conference that I can Wishlist. I don't expect to like every game announced.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the ps4 wouldn't help it. We say with Horizon the split ps5/ps4 was 5/1 we saw with God of war it was closer to 8/1. People who buy games day 1 bought a ps5 by 2023. The PS4s being played in 2024 are fortnite machines. Xbox wouldn't help either as we see Metaphor being the 37th ranked game on xbox right now behind Mad Max for some reason that JRPGs don't sell on that platform. PC probably wouldn't have helped either because of Tifa's 15 year old cleavage was covered up in the Neiblheim flashback crying censorship. There is a good chance that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be the #1 best selling JRPG of the year and a failure.
Hey! Where are you getting those numbers? Wouldn't you think any additional sales would be a positive though? Even if it's 1/5th of the sales. It's at least something. But I see your point. If those 1 to 5 and 1 to 8 numbers are accurate, this is a big reason why I think people shouldn't be stressing when a game is also on last gen. It's just pointless. Most of the "new" games coming out are large open worlds, with the same quests repeated over and over again with only minor changes. And the only games we have coming out now are indie games that can be hard to hear news about, or AAA titles where EVERY game cost $60-$70 a piece, no more AA titles, or even A or B titles, those were the games that had the most personality and best story! All the big titles are shallow money grabs that aren't even complete! And absolutely nobody except children looking for views on their posts rejects a game just because it was also on last gen, however it is pretty sad that Sony made the PS5 only for people who dropped the money on it to have had no reason to do so, since the games are also on last gen! Honestly, this video didn't present much logical argument or much deep thought into the actual content of the "overwhelming" number of games. The video itself seems put together well, but not the argument
I disagree. While this generation offers a large selection of games, most feel like last-gen titles with only minor graphical improvements, unlike the significant leap seen between previous generations. The 9th generation feels misleading, as it suggests we’ll experience noticeably better games than the 8th generation, but that isn’t the case. The consoles have changed, but the games remain largely the same and could still run on 8th-gen hardware-except for one standout, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. This doesn’t mean there are no good games being released, but most of them don't truly feel like next-gen experiences. In other words, the Xbox Series X and PS5 are essentially just upgraded versions of the Xbox One and PS4, without a true next-gen focus.
Appreciate the comment! I can agree with you that the leap of this Console Generation is much smaller. But my premise is more about gamers saying gaming isn't fun anymore or that there are no games to play. When there is in fact, a ton of games to play. And most of the best games don't require a massive console leap to be the best games on the market. Elden Ring and Balders Gate 3 were Games of the Year because of how awesome of games they were. Not the power of the console or PC that ran them. I honestly believe us as gamers gotta accept that the generations won't have a graphical leap like they have in the past. We've reached a graphical level that's hard to top. The characters are already so close to realistic that there isn't much room for improvement.
