Ehhhhh, in a world of good vs evil maybe.
People like to throw terms like QA and stress test on the table, but guess what video games are complex programs now. This isn't just having magic hacker man go into the office and write a fix up. Even games today that need split second netcode (much like fighting games) STILL have major issues. There's shit that you're not gonna know about until your QA crew of 20 to 50 is beaten out by a player base of hundreds of thousands if not millions.

Alex's speech needs to be viral. Hits the spot. Can't keep defending the devs for so long. If the game is unfinished or is a mess at release. Postpone it. Make that call.

Unfinished is one thing day one server issues is another,
Not saying you're wrong, but just to be fair, some games don't really have much of a choice in whether they can postpone their release. IIRC (and don't quote me on this), Hello Games for example with No Man's Sky, had an agreement with Sony to release their game within that year in 2016. Having already postponed their release already, any more postponement particularly for an entire year or so would break their agreement, thus be in breach of law. So they really didn't have any choice but to release it in its incomplete state. Though at least Hello Games have the excuse of being an indie studio making a rather big game.
Its not necessarily the devs fault, most often its the publisher forcing them to push out the unfinished product.

I know right? People keep defending the developers but honestly, the higher ups should be checking the game and if the devs say they are not ready, then they should postpone the game and take the time needed to fix what needs to be fixed. Sometimes, people need to stop pressuring the studio to release the game. Just look at Cyberpunk, the game is a hot mess just because people weren't patient and pressured the devs to release the game.

The irony of sitting in a room together and trying to play an online coop game that won't connect to a live service is not lost on me.
The real game was the time we spent together trying to connect to the shitty servers!
That's all I could think while watching this. It wasn't that long ago that AJ could buy 1 copy of a finished game and they could sit around 1 TV playing it. Instead they all need internet connections and gaming PC's and the game still doesn't work.

I personally hate the endgame. It's the same enemies we fought in the story, but they add more health and a time limit, the two laziest ways to add difficulty.
I think the best part of the game was when I couldn't actually log in, and eventually gave up trying, but Square Enix then sent me an e-mail thanking me for playing it.
The game made joe so angry he started speaking Dothraki.

Its more like when you open the door, the screen fades to black, fades back in and you see the guy do a quidck 3 second animation, and THEN you wait for a loading screen lol. Not sure how it is on consoles, but this is on my PC.
I hate how it fades to black when you enter a new area though thogh.
On PC with a m.2 drive, there's only a loading screen to join someone's game for expedition pre selection, then another one for the stage, both of tops 10 seconds each.

@@tenjenk Tell that to my Burn doing 20 mils damage in single expedition all by itself. Or eruption hitting for ~60K damage per enemy per cooldown. Pyro anomaly power (aka fire mage with a LMG) absolutely destroys everything at high level. But it needs a buff to survivability. Honestly if the game would just allow modding BOTH mods on gear it would make a huge difference.

It's really not a bad game man. Not nearly as bad as Joe makes it seem... I've had a lot of fun with it since I got it, but it's the kind of game where your itemization actually really matters at high level, otherwise it's REALLY hard... Kind of reminds me of WoW in terms of gear optimization if you ask me, or rather how WoW used to be... I like it, and I didn't have any of the launch day issues, at all, with ~70 hours logged to date, on a single class.

ya know whats worse, when you dont have a team and you have to deal with the swarms, i enjoy the game and the gameplay of it but the difficulty can be a bit much for solo players at times. It feels really intense and just annoying when you're rushed by axe wielding berserkers, having armored shotgun fuckers walking up on you and then being shot by a sniper all at the same time oh then 3 mini bosses.
I like how Joe and Alex sit there as AngryJoe goes off. Its like sitting in the living room listening to your little brother get his ass whooped in the other room.😂

They give us bland, generic, copy and paste bullshit, and expect us to throw cash at them. Damn shame, this game had potential it's just a damn mess I'm playing on ps5 and I've had sitting at the title screen for 25mins while waiting to log on, the random crashes, the vendor prices quadruple when you earn scrap, and the inventory wipe glitch... This is one title that should've been postponed... A mess.

On the topic of invisible walls, that was acceptable back in like, 1996 when the hardware was weak (And a lot of games back then did their best to hide their walls behind something tangible). Nowadays, there's no reason whatsoever that you can't program something as simple as your character taking a couple steps back and just saying "There's nothing for me there" or something, like when you're trying to run into the super secret door spawn.
SAVE YOUR MONEY.
I wish this was the review I watched before I bought it. If it's on Game Pass - that's worth a try. I bought this game for PS4 and I actually regret it. $80 CAD... not worth it.
Pros:
- Loot system is decent
- Crafting and upgrading work very well
- The class abilities are actually fun
- Re-spec you're character any time any way you want is great.
Cons:
- This game is too hard above WT 3 or so. The healing system is bugged because my Trickster standing 3 feet from an enemy is NOT healing. Which breaks the game, because you have to put yourself in mortal peril to go heal... just to have to it bug out and you die... a lot.
- As good as modding is ... I don't want to spend 10 minutes between short missions just to mod my gear so it's good enough to not die.
- Too many load screens. It's ridiculous that 20 years ago Jak and Daxter did a whole adventure game with almost 0 loading. It's one world. This game has load screens all the f**king time. It takes 5-10 minutes to go anywhere.
- Every single fight is the same - enemies are insanely accurate all the way across the map. If you're 3 of 4 classes, you have to charge through bullets all the time and hope you don't die.
- Every single side quest is the same.
- The map is almost impossible to use in-game. You have to pause, memorize the contours of the zone you're in and then skirt the walls to find where you're going.
The deal breakers:
- The healing system is stupid or bugged and it makes it so easy to get one-shot by big enemies. I cannot think of a better example than a boss, like Yagak. he can run up to you, jump on you twice and kill you even on WT 1. You cannot stagger him, and you cannot kill him fast. So you're literally running away from him while your abilities recharge, hoping you don't die.
- I didn't care about any legendary drop I got. Every single one dropped like 3000 damage points or like 1000 armor points below my level. Why? So I can waste time/resources upgrading them. They aren't even that good. I ended up with an all Purple (epic?) build.
- Bosses are insanely hard because of the healing system. I had to do all of them on World Tier 1, because I really did not have the patience to avoid an AOE attack that hits the whole room you're in. So, you just stand there and wail on the boss and hope for the best. Terrible.
- The story is okay - but it drags way too long. It's essentially a way to make you go from one place to another.
- Lastly, single player, which is how I am doing this game with no revives is by far the dumbest design choice I have ever seen. Why can you self-revive in multiplayer but not single-player?
I almost rage quit this game dozens of times, but my inner completionist wanted to finish the campaign so I could say I at least got $80 CAD of fun.
In closing:
If you really like looter-shooters, pick it up on Game Pass or wait until it goes on sale. I would NOT recommend buying this game.
The praise I have heard for the last 6 weeks is undeserved. Here's why it's so highly praised: because the loot and end-game systems weren't broken at launch. That's it. If every other looter shooter hadn't been so terrible at launch, I think this game would have gotten the 3-5/10 it deserves instead of the 8-10/10 ratings everyone seems to be pumping.
Playing this game made me want to go back to Anthem, to dust off Diablo III or log back in to Destiny 2. Because all of those are way more fun to play than this game.

Yup. bugs are acceptable with games of the magnitude today... but basic server-error crap galore, memory leak shitprogramming, hardcrashes, etc..... yeah that's inexcusable.
Only thing I'd say I like about this game, might be the music. But the rest looks like a borefest to me - designed to make idiot-kids all adrenaline-rushed and think 'good game!' just cuz it feeds them through the same shitty gameplay loop like every other lootershooter.
@@kinagrill Agree with every point you have made. Was properly skeptical when I saw its trailers, and sadly it proved me right. I do like how it feels like a fusion of a bunch of games tho lol. One moment it feels like mass effect, next I am getting gears vibes, next a little bit of anthem, but sadly all to a lesser degree. As cringey and terribly written as our protagonist is, the douche grew on me...I just thought of it as we are the bad guy lol.
@@Synkhan Thanks for agreeing with me. I finally bought Horizon Zero Dawn on steam.... and I spent 8 hours just to reach 'You are a Seeker now'. It was fun! I did it in one go! And I've, as far as I know, only really gotten past the 'closed-off-trial-area'.
Sure the gameplay there is rather samey as well, but you have upgrade to learn, there's various types of weapons to use, you can decide how you want to approach the enemy, etc. etc.
But THIS shit of a game? you have gun, you shoot gun at mook spawned rush-enemies and bulletsponge bosses that survive 30 magazines of armor piercing rounds to the skull... somehow. I've never enjoyed such types of games. Neither with Anthem, parts of Borderlands, Destiny, etc. I never played more than borderlands 1 through and parts of 2.... cuz they got so boring.
I'd say it's like lootboxes. It's gambling and 'seratonin' release mechanics overall designed to make you feel good and just 'go on standby' in terms of your overall objective look at the game. Sure, that can be forgiven if the game runs smoothly... but to me that'd still make it AT MOEST a 5/10 game. It's just... okay. Nothing remarkable about it. It functions, it's a game, and it seems to be enjoyable at times. But that's it. Joe is way too generous with the score. if the game is unplayable a lot of the time cuz of crashes, then you do not give it a 5/10. You give it a 3 or 2 out of 10.

@@Synkhan Fair. Just wanted to point out too many game critics give weird scores that doesn't fit with the 1-10/10 format. A game that is enjoyable but doesn't do anything special or interesting could get a 6 or 6.5 - anything higher would be too much. But giving it LESS would also be equally as wrong. Yet somehow anything not an 8 or more out of 10 means 'bad game' to a lot of people... somehow. Nope, a 7/10 could literally be a score for a game that is enjoyable... for SOME people.
I'd give just about any sports game nowadays a 2 or 3 out of 10... cuz it's boring, repeat-release shit that haven't really changed since I played it with my dad on a Windows 98 PC. At least in terms of gameplay enjoyment.
So yeah, the game itself here does not deserve a 5... that's too high.

I,personally, hated this game. It felt like Tom Clancy’s the division one, with insane amounts of enemy spam, and the enemy dealing some dumb amounts of damage. At least Tom Clancy’s had friendly ai that were slightly smart and could serve at bullet sponges at the very least. The one time you get friendly ai in this game they have low enough health to die to getting one burn damage. I’m not kidding, I saw one that just spawned, took 36 fire damage, and die. They also have that friendly ai run DIRECTLY AT THE ENEMIES WITHOUT TAKING COVER
Oh yeah, and did I mention that they deal like no damage. They don’t even serve as distractions, it’s more of a “your attacking this bunker with people but the only reason your getting help is because the guy said you’d get help” (that sucks)
And, say what you will, the enemies serve as bullet sponges and getting through a section of the game is painful and repetitive after a while, especially if you’re by yourself. I just don’t like this game overall

The leash is a great idea, just not enough can be done with it. If they centered their gameplay around more movement with the leash it would of been a lot better

I started playing it on game pass today. For 0 euros its fairly decent so far. I wouldnt pay for this though. I kinda enjoyed storlyline and characters in the beginning but now it kinda feels like 10 years old trying to make super angsty badass characters. Also i picked pyro. 😲

A big part of excuse making is it's hard to come to terms with wasting your money on something that's bad imo. People feel a great need to explain why their money isn't wasted and that is understanable, but needs to be unlearned as a behaviour.

I think it's also important to make a difference between a REALLY bad launch (Anthem, FO76, ME:A, etc), and launch day bugs and connectivity issues due to extreme load. Outriders has been relatively stable for me the entire time, and I bought it a week after launch. It's a good game, if you like that kind of games.

And like I said I haven't had ANY issue apart from the random occasional DC, or the random occasional crash to desktop. Just inconsequential bugs. Now, should it be cheaper? Yes. Do I care? No, if I did I would have waited for it to go to bargain bin.

Anyone else remember when video games released polished? Shit was wild.
The sad reality is that games are expensive to make, and most end up as busts. When it takes many years to make a game, rather than extending the development time to get something polished, publishers (more so than developers) would rather see something get released and see if it'll make enough money to continue investment rather than gamble on the finished product. It's just sad though when you build a game like a live service but cheap out on having the backend to support that, making the client do most of the work. That's the cause of a lot of Outriders' issues.
You’d think when releasing a new IP into an extremely competitive genre like looter-shooters, Devs would take their time to iron out all the bugs before launch.. The game could be spectacular but game breaking bugs can drive away a lot of people, especially when you could lose all your gear and have to start from scratch after investing tens of hours into the game.

I'm saying, however, that is the reality of game publishing today because that is the road of least risk financially. Like it or not, this is the most effective way financially to minimize loss so most businesses are going to practice in this manner.

I'm not surprised though to be honest after watching the disaster in how Amazon approached Crucible. You're only going to get a certain amount of time as a game dev to make a game before you're either financially or contractually forced to put it out - even if it's got some game breaking stuff.
