Hola Don! I truly believe that the love that you mention seems to be ingrained in the Hispanic-American culture. The time that I needed help in getting to a hospital here in Panamá, most of the Panamanian neighbors on my floor sprung into action and somehow had me there in 8 minutes flat. (much faster than any ambulance we could have called). I have since paid it forward a couple of times and I have to admit that it feels good to belong to a community that cares and has not just love but compassionate empathy. Don, nice to see you are doing OK. Abrazos
I agree Don. Observing the wider community here in Vilca during these horrible fires… so many dropping everything for weeks to help in so many ways, it is still going on in terms of helping those who lost their properties… it is stunning. Local Men were hiking all day in teams into the mountains at the edges of Podocarpus and spend a week or more up there at a time cutting fire breaks… full blown support operations centers for donations, preparing food for the bomberos and community, getting it where it needs to go, more trips into the mountains, still repairing San Pedro’s water system, so still needing that support to distribute water… on and on. Ecuadorians are all in.
I've been in Cuenca since May, and this is absolutely true. The people of Ecuador are amazing . They are incredibly nice and welcoming. It broke my heart when a young bartender I've gotten to know asked me, "Why do the people of of the US hate the people of Latin America so much?" This happened a couple days after the US election which she had been following.
Thank you so much dear Don. Yes, Ecuadorian people truly are lovely and, I'm on a count down now, as I'm sure you know. I know very well Ecuador is not perfect. I'm not looking for perfection but Humanity and, I know for sure, this is what I'll get there. I hope the guy from yesterday will cope and, you've just told me here, I've not chosen a bad country for the third part of my life... Thanks again for sharing and, take care. 🌹♥️🌹
Kind, loving ... and TOUGH! A few weeks ago I went over to the Feria Libre JEP (Cuenca). Just as I arrived two delincuentes were trying to pull a man from his car (I assume to steal it) and boy, did that get the locals in gear! The shop owner came running out with the rod he uses to open the steel doors of his shop screaming which got the two punks on the run. He went running after them and was joined by several others. They cut around the first corner, and I don't know if they caught them or not, but I can't see how with the men chasing them and hollering how they could have not. Meanwhile others gathered around the man who actually cut on the top of his head from the event and tended to him. They don't run from danger or turn a blind eye, that's for sure!
Hey Don greetings my frined. Well I finally made it to Argentina. I went over the Andes Mountains by bus and OMG what an amazing experience, loved it. I'll be in Mendoza for a month then head out to Buenos Aires before I go south to Patagonia to visit the National Glaciers Perritos Moreno and of course trekking Mount FitzRoy in El Chalten then head a bit north to Barriloche so pretty excited for the entire venture.
Good to hear from You, Don. I worry when I don't hear from you in a while!! Still scoping out areas of interest to get me out of Texas. Trying to shore up my courage to move my Cat with me. Happy Thanksgiving from the USA. ❤❤
@ I can certainly understand! I thought it would drive me nuts. Have you checked into getting hearing aids? When I wear them there isn’t anymore cadydids and when I take them off for the night the ringing has slowly but surely disappeared. My audiologist told me that would probably happen as the hearing aids “re-train” your brain to filter out noises. Prayers for an end to your very frustrating dilemma!
@@MarkHanna-ct6yr Mark, where did you get yours? How long did it take, once you got them to start taking affect? Feel free to write me at don@dshader.com
Sad, you dont really know the compassion most Anericans have for each other. Ive lived in Mexico and know the friendliness and compassion Mexicans possess and I have seen friendliness and compassion here in the USA. I personally know an Anerican family that has paid for heart surgery in Mexico for a Columbian women living in Mexico. There are thousands of small acts of kindness performed by Americans everyday.
What you're saying about the Ecuadorean people being the nicest people, and helping each other out when things go bad: TRUE, Don. Some of our family lives in Quito, and they love it. They'll visit here in the U.S. each year, but they love Ecuador. They've said how nice the people are. Can't get nicer people.
Hola, Don. Could you consider getting one of your tech guys and you to explain ESIM . If leaving US for EC, when, how, ins and outs ??? From years of videos on hit the first Tienda, buy sim chip to HOW ........the world has changed. HELP. tks. Leaving for EC soon.
So much for being a Grumpy Old Gringo. Don, how have you been. I haven't seen any videos in a while. I understand you're still dealing with electricity outages. Take care.
Yes, dealing with yhese annoying power outages, loud generators, and carbon monoxide in the air. It's made me really sick since mid sep and now I have Tinnitus real bad. It's very hard to be in good spirits these days but I'm hanging in there one day at a time.
Even within this culture, there are sub-cultures that are a completely different class of people. Their crimes are mostly against each other. That's the best answer I have without digging into ChatGPT about it.
Much of it is illegal drugs and the culture surrounding the drug culture(not regular contributing employment)morals out the window contributing to no love for thy family or neighbors 😢
Absolutely true about the Ecuadorian culture. Lovely people.
Thanks for sharing...
One of your best interviews ever was with Doc. He will definitely be missed. RIP Doc.
A beautiful commentary about community love in Ecuador.

What you saw is a great example of what makes Ecuador special.
Don….It is true!! Ecuadorian people are the most loving , kind people I have ever came in contact with…Truly…..🌎🇪🇨🙏😇
I agree Don, Ecuadorian people are the most affable people I have known.

Don, thank you for this message. Living in the US, particularly in Floriduh, it’s easy to forget that some cultures are just plain nice!

Good to see you Don and than’s for the uplifting story. BTW how is your tinnitus?
It's horrible and I'm having a real struggle with it.

I agree. In my part of the USA, people are helpful to each other. And they don't cut in line in front of you.
I love the intro music.
Thank you. I do too. It's my permanent theme song for my podcasts.

How do I join that emergency WhatsApp group?

If there is so much loving, why is there so much crime?
Competing import/export drug cartels.
Even within this culture, there are sub-cultures that are a completely different class of people. Their crimes are mostly against each other. That's the best answer I have without digging into ChatGPT about it.
There's crime in every country in the world! What a strange question!
Much of it is illegal drugs and the culture surrounding the drug culture(not regular contributing employment)morals out the window contributing to no love for thy family or neighbors 😢
I'm not sure if it's me, I really did not hear the video very well.
