Extremely simple tutorial! I’m not an absolute novice in flying the plane - but I’m extremely new to initializing a flight computer. This tutorial has helped me understand the entire thing
more tutorials please! a320 approach & landing? Your tutorial are slow paced and detailed. Everything a beginner truly needs. Everyone else seems to be rather quick as if we’re at their knowledge level…
I really should do some more approach and landing videos, I suppose :)
@@jonbeckett Sir your videos are the ONLY videos I watch in regards to learning new aircraft systems & how to get them from land, to air, & land again safely. Best tutorials for TRUE beginners in my opinion. Mastered PMDG with your help, & also other GA aircraft! Thanks man!
I cropped the video just before showing simbrief, because Simbrief seemed to be having some "issues" :) I'll record the Simbrief bit again later :)
I think you need engines off according to a forum post I saw otherwise it goes to SEC FPLN.
edit: just checked, import the Simbrief FPLN before starting engines and it works perfectly, proper A320 behaviour apparently, according to Fenix.
@@Blairvoyach yeah - that had nothing to do with what I saw. I tend to keep away from forum hoodoo and figure things out for myself :) Forums tend to be the blind leading the blind.
@@jonbeckett Except when the person giving the advice is the Fenix developer Aamir..... "If you are attempting to uplink a FPLN whilst the engines are running, it will land in SEC FPLN - as is the scenario in the real aircraft. A "gotcha" to look out for."

@@Blairvoyach What about those of us who don't want to spend a bunch of time going from cold & dark to ready to taxi? Seems like you're kinda forced to go through the full set-up first just to import your flight plan into the FMC.

I tried using simbreif for a long time but it never worked. The flight plan never goes into the MCDU. So I wanted to do it manually. And this is th4 best video out of all.

I'm excited for this, I loved the Aerosoft airbus series on FSX. I hope it's out soon as at the minute fs2020 isn't worth playing due to lack of good a/c.
The fenix is out now. I'm guessing you're talking about the Xbox ?

Just excellent. A question, if I may. Try to read this from a very "want to learn" view.. (from my side of course!) :-)
I am an industrial electronics designer in Automation ... I look at this programming and I'm thinking to myself... why does this even NEED to happen at all? It's not as if nobody has flown a 320 from Stansted to Edinburgh... Surely, SURELY, all the steps are the same. With variables for differing weather, passengers, cargo and so on which can be calculated with a notebook (simbrief for example), and uploaded to the plane computer. This is a no brainer in automation terms ...
Similarly is startup... you start with the batteries, the APU, the Fuel pumps, and a thousand other steps. WHAT is really stopping the pilots from having far less buttons? I understand safety of course (industrial automation is CRAZY about safety), but if I had time and inclination, one could easily write a macro in Windows and have all this done automatically.

Thanks for the nice words about the tutorials. I'm afraid I have no answers about the automation. I think perhaps the emergency of the city transport planes that are starting to appear (the drone hybrids that humans can control and be carried by), a lot of the automation may come to pass. For the "old world", I think perhaps you hit the nail on the head about safety. I've often wondered why civil aviation aircraft like the A320 automate most flight tasks, but NOT the flaps. I wondered if it's because of a Asimov type logic problem, but then fighter jets have automatic flaps. It's an interesting one.
I believe you couldn't delete that 2nd discontinuity because it was behind a "MANUAL" sequence. Same on the FBW, it's a Toulouse thing apparently.... :-P Nice vid once again
Yep - I thought about that afterwards. I make a point of not removing anything from, or editing videos (unless something breaks - as Simbrief did today) - because most things are an opportunity to learn.
Thanks for this. But I'm a little confused. In the beginning you mention that you show both the manual and the simbrief approach.
But then it's actually only the manual version in the video, not the simbrief... is there an other video for that?
I actually cut the video off because Simbrief ate it's lunch - I will record a video soon showing the simbrief integration (it's pretty straightforward).
Great video, I have done the same, but my FENIX A320 will not follow the route once I activate my AP, also, even though I have calibrated my controls, my THRUST will not agree with my power output, and it is accelerating to overspeed.
Without watching what you are doing, it's hard to say.
Hi Jonathan. Sorry if this has been covered before. I haven't been able to find anything. Can you use Little Nav map for a Fenix Flight plan. From what I've found so far it seems not.Cheers.
You can output from LittleNavMap to Simbrief - and then pull from Simbrief into the Fenix (I think) - it will be in the ATSU/AOC menu of the MCDU if anywhere.

thx for tutorial. It was very helpful but I would like to ask. Is there any option to turn off the failures in fenix? I am only aviation enthusiast and hours and hours I flew on flybywire without failures. :)
I think the failures are off by default - it's all controlled through the tablet.
hi Jonathan thanks alot for your efforts it really makes the difference , i have small question here as im trying to insert some manual waypoints through the VIA but im having a big issues when it comes to adding a DCT the MCDU keeps giving me the MISS MATCH error message
Your best bet might be to visit virtualflight.online, join the discord server, and keep an eye out for either Mugs or Ryan - they are A320 experts and will have no problem walking through the problem with you.

I uploaded a flight plan from simbrief, and on the approach has two or three waypoints with a left arc turn, can you please tell me if i can delete that without deleting the waypoint? I managed it only deleting all that points and insert them manually, following the approach chart for altitudes. Thanks!
If using a STAR or approach, it really depends on the aircraft. Some allow you to modify the waypoints after insertion - some recognise that it's a predefined series of steps.
my mcdu wont go to the mcdu menu and i cant configure a thing

How do you contact ATC after you programed the mcdu?
If you're contacting ATC within MSFS, just press scroll lock on the keyboard.
Mine will not let me clr discont it says not allowed
It depends where it is in the sequence of legs - if you have a "manual" leg near it, then yes - it won't allow it. You have to remove the manual segment too.

It's called "LittleNavMap", and yes - it's free.
You said flex temp is basically the outside air temperature? But the temperature outside is not 60° C?!
There is this issue with my fenix a320. When it loads into the sim, the engine runs for awhile before it activates the cold and dark. And the engines kind of slows down but still runs at a lower rpm and it’s making this annoying crackling sound. Maybe there’s something I’m not doing right ?
The engine fans doesn’t stop turning even when there’s absolutely zero power in the aircraft
The fan blades take a while to stop spinning - this is realistic. They also rattle as they free-wheel. This also is realistic :)
If there is sufficient wind an engine will continue to rotate even when an aircraft is parked and why you hear the noise / clacking sound as the fan blades move and knock together in their hub seats. Its very common, its called 'wind milling'
