its always a big day when Lexus is introducing a new LS model. This means we can finally buy the previous model for a price of a 5 y.o. Golf .
Most definitely...
Absolutely
Hell yes Agreed I got mine last week! o it's such a beautiful car in every way, I'm in love!!
All while being more reliable than many brand new cars.
Owner of 2007 LS460L here, 55k miles on it. I think I won't let myself to ever replace the car. After 4 years of ownership, only service it took was replacing the front control arms (Actually, the arms themselves were just fine, only the bushings were dead, but it was still easier to replace the whole thing with OEM arms). Air suspension like new, transmission smooth as it gets, 0-60 in 5,5s, electronics never failed (and jeez, how much electronics there is), ride is as smooth and refined as 2018 S-class and the Mark Levinson audio is one of the best audiosystems ever installed in a car. Besides an old-school interior (and now even exterior), this is still an ultimate car, true pinnacle of automotive industry. After 10 years!!!
Updates on ownership? Any additional significant costs?
I’ve heard a lot of issues of ls460 regarding the control arm, suspension, oil burns but I really want to buy this car
A very thorough and detailed review. The ONLY review I have seen that mentions the fix for the wind noise problem with the little door trim piece.
I've had 2 LS 460's. A short wheelbase traded in for a long wheel base. The long wheelbase is loaded with all power accessories including rear power seats, cool box between the seats, and power rear seat window shades. It is the best car I've ever had. Air suspension, in comfort mode, offers an exceptionally smooth ride. Have had absolutely no problems, keep if fully maintained, and have no desire to ever get rid of it as it is my dream car. I've owned almost 40 cars, being a car fanatic, and this car tops the list. Can't imagine anything better for the money considering the build quality, the comfort, and the power/economy factors. I've gotten as much as 31 mpg on the freeway with cruise control on. Can't say enough good, and can say nothing negative about this car.
Hey Karl what yr 460L do you have now???
What year did you get?
Seems to have taken you a VERY LONG time to discover what has been known for decades. But perhaps that's just my over-simplification. Enjoy.
Opinions? Is the 460L a much better ride? I will rarely have backseat passengers
As a BMW 7 series owner - I laugh at these "issues". Damn Lexus/Toyota knows how to make em last.
CarGuy66 the 7 series has the best handling in the class.
@@Ray_Yang182 True but the maintenance cost is CRAZY,just like a BENZ,I'm getting me a 460L,it's just makes SENSE...

A used Lexus is better than both used BMW's & used Mercedes,

1. Lexus
2. Mercedes-Benz
3. BMW
4. Another cars
FCDB PCH Any opinions on Infinti, mechanically? I would go for 6-10 year old Lexus but I can’t stand that cherry red wood color and curvy center console. Infinitis of the same year look so much better to me on the interior. It’s a shame because I know a Lexus is generally a really good bet.
The 2013+ Lexus interiors look so much better but I think those are out of my price range of 15k and less. Quality comes first for me, and I think performance ties with aesthetics.
Don't you think you'd be fucked hard by any repairs done at a dealership? I'm sincerely curious why you say Infinitis are shit. They are Japanese and are built by the same company as Nissan, so to me it seems much safer to buy an Infiniti than anything German. I understand Lexus is at the top of the list though for best reliability and cost of ownership.
Roy B I agree
Exceptional review. My 22 yo LS400 finally requires repairs that substantially exceed its value, so am in the market for an LS460.
Wound up doing only what absolutely had to be done and all has been well since. So, I'm keeping my LS400. Still LOVE it. The car replaced 2 MBs that were very troublesome despite perfect maintenance.
This is the best used car review so far. Thank you.
This seems like the most reliable foreign car that you have covered
You certainly don’t ‘Sugar Coat’ your review. Great research- really well done. Thanks so much.
My 460 is about 230k kilometres on the clock, engine is still very strong and responsive, I did changed all 8 front control arms and converted 4 air shocks to BC COILOVERS. Ride is a bit rough than OEM, but I’m happy, very detailed made elegant saloon, the C pillar is timeless for its shape
Finally!!! A Lexus LS video I’ve been waiting for so long. Love the info it’s super well put together and I watch every single one of them. Hope we see the older LS or ES next!
The Rifleman
My 08 Lexus LS460L with 39k Miles is fantastic. It’s nice to have a car I can rely on at all times to go places in and in extreme comfort
That's exactly why I'm getting that 460L....
You'll love it even more at 200K.
Excellent review packed with useful information! Thank you!
Wanna hear this guy say “Very nice”
Just bought one of these. Taking delivery of it on Wednesday. Cannot wait.
So how is it?
Impressions?? Update
@@dangerouscookie4790 I had to buy a brake actuator assembly for it right out the gate. With that said, don't let that scare you away from the car. If you're not an idiot who runs to the dealership to willingly get robbed, you can find brand new OEM parts like the dreaded brake actuator assembly for less than 1000 like I did, and a certified mechanic with the appropriate tools to do the work. Labor on the car isn't bad at all. My old 02 deville was more expensive to work on. The car is worth way more than I paid for and even put in. Mine is fully loaded. Parks itself and everything. Everything works. Its fast as hell, turns heads, comfortable, and makes this working class zero feel like an absolute baller. I love it. Its all I could ever ask for in a car. Strong and reliable engine and trans. It's a little heavy, but it gives it a solid and refined feeling that enhances the driving experience. That's not to say it drives like an absolute boat. It feels smaller than what it is. The turning circle is crazy. Easy to park and maneuver for such a big car. However you imagine this car being, its much better than that. If you get the chance to get one, do not hesitate. Easiest luxury car to live with in the world if you ask me.
@@omarreynold6782 It is a dream machine. I'm very particular about my cars. Im a value for money guy. The LS460 is hands down the best value for money. The engine is an absolute tower of power. The transmission is very well engineered and for being the worlds first 8 speed transmission, it does a damn good job. Its so smooth, the driving experience is almost telepathic. Despite the steering being electric, you never feel disconnected from the driving experience. The ride is smooth without feeling floaty or boaty. It just does what you tell it in a way that makes you feel secure...like there's no situation in which it will fail you or make you think for a second that it isn't capable or unreliable. Best money I ever spent. If you don't have one, get it. The acceleration is shocking. It flies when you want it to. Its absolutely gorgeous even after all the years (mines a black on tan 08), and its a head turner. People will complement you on it. I've never had a car that makes me feel the way my Lexus does.
Almost bought one yesterday... The seller sold it from under me... Gonna get one eventually
Thank you. The depth of your research on cars is impressive.
A couple extra points
I think the sports model takes away the four zone ac and gives you two zone ac.
The L version has a real reclining seat (real reclining rear seat behind the passengers seat.
Saw a new L at a Lexis dealer recently WOW
Also being somewhat plain in body shape (good thing), there is little highway envy (hostility).
Please keep doing these reviews

You'll likely be VERY happy with it. I've had a 2nd generation for 20 years and will never part with it. Had 2 new M-Bs before that and certainly won't return to any German brand.
good luck buddy,
just remember to film a video.
Some AWD versions had problems with the center diff. I was fortunate to have mine replaced under warranty. I also identified with the uncharacteristic (for Lexus) occasional wind noise problem and will take this reviewers advice. Otherwise, my 460 L has been tremendous.
I am a daily driver of 2017 LS460L and would like to share my two cents. LS460L is a lot roomier in the back seat than 430. I also enjoy the 35mpg highway fuel economy, but don’t buy one with adjustable back seat as it takes away way too much trunk volume, too small for two sets of golf clubs. 430 has the largest trunk space among all the LS models. Mine doesn’t have the optional Mark Levinson . The standard sound system is of average quality. The backseats are heated only, but in my area cooled backseats are much more practical. Good luck!
best car reviewer ever
Got a 2001 LS430. Legendary reliability.
Excellent information! I think the LS is a better choice than the Germans. I don't dislike the German brands, quite the contrary, but I value reliability above status and the Lexus wins that category, hands down. Thanks for the video!
German cars are great if you have the money for the maintenance but the COMMON SENSE buy is LEXUS by far...
my 400k mileage LX 570 and 375k mileage LS still running perfectly. while my 6 months old bmw and MB are still a visiting dealer for electrical problems
Your German problems are just beginning.
Can confirm the control arms going bad, they are pretty expensive but it's an easy job so not to bad. One thing I would add is tyre pressure sensors going bad after around 9-10 years, it's only about 500 Euros for a set of 4 and an hour of work so nothing terrible. Otherwise a great and very comfortable car
Toyota invented the Lean philosophy, of course they are top tier in quality production
Thanks a lot ... it's comprehensive review about 460
This is was an excellent review, packed with information and very focused. Really, really great !
Should mention that the radiator will go bad after 8-9 years. Replace it before it cracks and leaves you stranded with an overheated engine.
but aftermarket radiator is cheap... 6hours to swap
Buy a Mercedes, BMW or Audi A8 over an LS 460? Not! Those cars won't be anywhere as good as the LS 460 when it comes to long term reliability.
Thank you! I recently started watching your videos and they are excellent and very informative.
Best review so far
i love videos from this guy !
White LS looks sick
Wish they had folding back seats.
I have a 2015 LS 600hL and my dashboard de-lamented - faulty installation from Lexus. Mine is garaged with 51K miles. Lexus did nothing to correct the problem and replacement cost were - honestly - 16K for new dashboard and 2.5K to install. So I had is re-wrapped and a restoration shop in Denver for 3K. What I also did was legally tint the front windshield to eliminate the UV rays. Disappointed that Lexus did not stand behind their mistake. I want to share my story with all Lexus owners.
The best car I ever had, looking forward to buying another one, but with the M.L. sound system. Makes so much sense to have them fully optioned with all the toys. I'm wondering if is anyone that has installed an Android Auto/ Apple Car system on top of the existing unit. That would make any infotainment system future proof.
Great cars and great VIDEOS 👍 thanks buddy 😀👍

Excellent review. Can we pleeeease have a review of the GS 350 from 2013 cause I am about to buy one and would really appreciate your advice. Thanks!
I’ll take two.
6:30. Do not change the transmission oil. Lexus’s lifetime fluid really is lifetime. These cars can go 500,000+ miles reliably.
There’s a video of a 2008? Toyota Tundra with 1.2 million miles original tranny and fluid.
Transmissions have vents to equalize pressures, so contamination is possible. How long is "lifetime"? I think most people would change the fluid at 70K or so. Almost any vehicle "can go 500K" but the question is WILL my vehicle do it?
@@wholeNwon if this were a Mercedes or BMW I’d agree with you. But with Lexus it’s a completely different story. They really are bulletproof and fluid can be left alone.
@@Mabeylater293 Absolutely not. And I say this as an owner for 23.5 yrs. who does most of the car's maintenance.

I like my 05 LS 430 better. It’s more reliable. My 2010 LS at 49,000 miles already needs Some front end suspension replacements. The control arms. And I know those struts won’t go to 100,000 miles. 460 has less headroom than my 430. It’s a good car but it isn’t as well built as the 430. I now wish I would have bought a Cadillac XTS instead of the 460.
Bought my wife an RX300 which sold last year, 10 years of daily driving road tax and some tyres NO REPAIRS. I had an LS400 many many years ago the same story. Now have a Mercedes, never again. German cars are just overrated by comparison nowhere near as reliable and can be expensive for basic parts - quoted £800 for an alternator without labour. LS460 here I come
The LS460 just makes good COMMON SENSE...
@@mercedesbenzs600bash Something the German "luxury" car owners seem to lack. Money + stupidity = funny.
Upper and lower control arm replacement on an LS460 2008-2012 is very expensive. Once you go over 100K to 150K miles is when you might need to get them replaced.
Aftermarket upper ones are about 70 Euros.
How much?
@@mondeljean-louis5634 Around $4,000
This video was amazing! Thank you so much! Please make a video about the third generation. Lexus LS 430 XF30. I am wondering whether to buy a third generation LS430 for between 12-15000 Euro or go for an early fourth edition for 15-20000 Euro. I do not want to spend more than that.
ua-cam.com/video/_Sr2FTlu_b8/v-deo.html
Consider that the 430 will have a timing belt.
Thank you for posting! I have a 2017 LS460 SWB. I have been having issues I believe with the transmission but they are intermittent so I keep getting from the dealer ‘unable to duplicate’. The issue I have is when turning left and after sometimes the transmission holds in a low gear. It’s kind of weird. I think these cars have a gyro or something because I know when you touch the brake pedal going downhill it downshifts. Maybe something is going wrong with that system? Sometimes also while slow speed driving on hills it will clunk really hard too, I dunno where that is even coming from. It’s not throwing any codes. The other issue is clunking from the front end, my car has about 19,000 miles on it and when you touch the brake pedal at nearly any speed you get a clunk in the front end. I brought it in and the dealer reports it’s normal I’ve even scoped out some of the bushings and found them to look good. Then I have had the infotainment system completely quit being responsive on me, I have had to shut the car off to restart the system, I’ve had it reboot while giving me direction. Oh and the headliner around the sunroof is getting oddly lumpy and I dunno why, the dealer reports that is normal too.
I also had a crazy whistle while driving and brought it to 2 dealers and had to get Lexus corporate involved to get it resolved, it turned out to be harmonics from the front brake pads and rotors, driving down the freeway it would sing really loud!
I’m a little bit complaining because I went from BMW where everything breaks on their cars, but I found with BMW I never left with my problems not being fixed. With Lexus I’ve only once left with my problems getting fixed.
The downshift going downhill is not a defect, it is a safety feature to prevent the car from speeding downhill causing you to
use the brakes too much. Many cars have this feature.
MB had regional reps to handle problems that dealers couldn' t solve. Lexus probably does, too.
Call Lexus of North America to find out. Personally, I NEVER believe anything that dealer "service" tells me...NOTHING. I've owned an LS400 for 23 yrs.

The Dreaded Brake Actuator on Lexus😥...why they still persist with it is a Mystery 😧

Thank you for valuable information.

Now watch the Mercedes-Benz S-class (W221) video. Sooo many things that can break.

I am about to buy a president Model this week
Thank you for this excellent review. Perhaps you could give me some advise. I recently purchased a used 2017 LS 460 with 17k mi. There is a clicking sound coming from the brake actuator. The dealer plugged it into the computer and said there is nothing wrong. He said the clicking noise is normal. I have no lights on the dash and the brakes seem fine except for the clicking. Do you think I should take to another dealership and try to make them replace the brake actuator. The factory warranty will run out in December 2021.
Call Lexus corporate and complain. They should replace for free. It’s a defective brake actuator.
