On the v6 diesel engine: If you buy a car that was parked for a year or so in the dealer's parking lot check the functionality of stationary heating system (webasto) because the membrane of fuel pump for the heater can be dry and the pump will not function. It costs 500 euros and you need to unscrew the rear axel to change it. If you change the accessory belt, spend extra 220 euros and also change the main pulley on the crankshaft because the rubber on it ages fast (5 years) and you can have a nasty surprise if it brakes. *edit I had the car now for 3,5 years and 50.000 km, now my 2012 v6 3.0 diesel 4 seater has 150.000 km except what I already said I only had a hydraulic pipe failure, not expensive to fix but I had to tow the car home from vacation also, hold on to your hats... I had to redo the software of the front right seat because I forced it into something in the back and it forgot it's 0 point. A couple of weeks ago someone hit it on the right side and to my surprise I found out that a door is 5000 euros so the 2 door damage is around 12.000 euros which is the insurance companies calculated car value , fortunately second hand parts are dirt cheap so here's room to negotiate with the insurance. ** edit The second hand doors wore 500 euros, repainting everything around the car that needs repainting 1500 euros and I got 6000 euros from insurance company. I spent the extra 4k in a trip around Europe.
I was almost buying a Merc S500, but the car at the side was Phaeton 01/2009 V6 TDI with 150.000Km in Mint condition. Just bought it today! Really happy (for now).
The car os behaving well. For safety I changed the oil and filters from the engine and gearbox. The dealer said that in the gearbox everything was alright.. No metallic residue... My car has some less positive points... Like no automatic lights.. When your unlock the car with car keys the lights does not turn on. My truck is not automatic and no front parking sensors... The rest are great
A friend of mine in Romania owns a Chevrolet Camaro. One of the cylinder heads probably loses pressure, there is no one willing to do a repair with warranty so probably the car will end up being someone's project. Maintenance is the hardest thing about owning a car made for a different continent, except Land Rover Defender, you can only drive that in England where 10% of the population works in Land Rover servicing so they can brag on how good they are.
I had the 3.0 TDI faulty intake manifold flaps problem start at around 180000 km. My mechanic was quoting me 500€ to replace the intake manifold. I have resolved it for now by attaching a 15€ piece of metal (cost for a set of 2) which limits the range of motion of the actuator motor arm and restores its function. For anyone interested I suggest searching the P2015 and/or P2020 error codes on eBay and on UA-cam if you want to buy one of these and see how it is fitted. I fitted one to the left motor and it took me less than 10 minutes and my check engine light is gone (for now).
I have the W12 version of this car. Inspect the car carefully before you buy. Unfortunately I didn't. So far I've replaced all control arms and drop links 6000$. Brake job 1500$. Engine out service for alternator, thermostat replacement, and other issues 11000$. This list doesn't include the hundreds of hours i spent working on the car myself. Other than the continuous expensive repairs this really is an amazing car. Don't buy unless you are really rich car nut or a mechanic.
Yes just wait till you have to replace those chains and chain guides. Another engine out job! I know because I owned an Audi S4, same engine. The damned car nearly broke me.

I have a 4 seater 2012 long Phaeton and 2 of my friends have newer A8s. My car is more confortable, better insulated, better overall finising quality (hand assambled) and also about 400 KG heavyer. The A8 is more sporty, consumes almoast 2 liters/100 km less but also costs 6000-7000 euros more. On the A8 you can find anoying cheap plastic here and there wile the Phaeton uses inox and wood. The A8 is already the older model while if you own a 2011+ Phaeton is the latest model.
2008 GP1 VW Phaeton 3.0 TDI 240 bhp: My middle air vent was stuck open. I removed the glove box, steering plastics, the whole centre trim and infotainment to get it out! The motor was just weak and worked when I gave it a helping spin to start. I greased it and played with it for ages before finding a tested unit off ebay for £30. now its fixed. My A/C compressor clutch burned out and a used tested unit of ebay was just £40. The old clutch was so bad I couldnt even remove it from the pump. Fitting it took about 3 hours, but now I could do it in less. re gas and now its fixed. I think I have a boost leak / evap leak I need to do a test. not bad to work on actually once you get stuck in. brakes / suspension is all accessible and easy to work on. Turbo easy access. good room under engine. quality bolts that dont break. aftermarket parts and parts cars available online. Amazing in the snow! I would recommend this car 100% Great value for money. very rare as well.

I own a 2008 GP1. amazing car! A am going to make a video on it. I have the middle clock vent broken stuck open. I also had my AC compressor clutch burn out because the re gas job was badly done:(no vacuum test first he just blasted gas in!)
@Vincent Vogelsang on the driveway. Just changed front axle lower rear control arm inner bushes. When I move house and have some better place to work I will film some stuff.
@Vincent Vogelsang by the way I changed the middle clock ages ago. It was glove box out, infotainment out, centre wood panel and gear shifter out. steering wheel plastic surrounding, long plastic strip across centre of dash just to get to it. Changed AC compressor also all used parts off eBay. Low boost was a fuel rail pressure issue caused by worn swirl flaps in intake manifolds strangely. I have replaced most front end suspension by now. I can't find the correct drop links to fit all the auto shops suggest I need ones that are too small. The change over year making it a continental GT and not an A8 but still with facelift.
@Vincent Vogelsang CARA is 237 bhp not 240? Very have to find mine with CEXA. also have the AC massaging seats. TV. Radar cruise control. 18 way seats. Electric boot. When you get yours ring VW and ask for your PR codes and factory build sheet very nicely. They can email it to you. This is very helpful and just good to know. About 8 pages worth of info
@Vincent Vogelsang Nice thanks for the tip. I rang my local VW dealer and asked really nicely. I said I was a castotian of the vehicle and plan to take good care of Her. Only 172 GP1 were made in Europe. Mine right hand drive with all the options makes it very rare. The procedure for them is to print out then scan / photo into email and send. Because they don't have a forward option on the page directly it is impossible to copy paste. Yes I do it all myself and invest in tools instead of paying mechanics to do it for me. I have been passionate home mechanic for ever. This is a good car to learn on because after this everything else seems easy also all the bolts are accessible and not rusty. Owning Ross Tech VCDS is also a must becauese of all the electronics this will save to lots. I can't find the correct drop links because the bolt holes are bigger than standard. I tried 3 different auto shops took my drop link in and they are all different. My bolts will not fit through the holes and I can't use thinner bolts because one of them screws directly into the roll bar so it has to be the correct one. This is some GP1 crossover year problem. I have a squeek coming from front suspension still and it's bugging me. Happens on bumps and during torsion front left. They are last thing left basically. I don't have keyless entry. They 2 keys are nice though each one remembers all the settings from the last time used. The radio starts before you put in ignition. Their is a secret hidden button on inside of steering wheel for heated. Also the rear view mirror is electric with 18 way. I also don't have electric rear blinds. In looked at Tom Jones the famous singers old V10 TDI lwb with 4 seats for sale.. That was top top spec but I didn't fancy the bigger and longer. Was a really nice car tho. Ps. 45mpg is possible on a run!
This is the most informative instruction on automobiles I have ever heard. I followed the same narrator as he discussed the Bentley Continental GT convertible. I can't express how much I have learned from his dialog. My only suggestion is that perhaps the narrator could slow down or find someone else to narrate as it is difficult at times to understand what is expressed.
Had a phaeton before, honestly was an excellent car. Just after so many years, the infotainment was outdated. It would have been nice to have later year phaeton's in the US
Thanks for the great video! Could you make a video on the 2nd and 3rd gen Lexus RX (i know they aren't very popular here in Europe but i think they are great cars (the non-hybrids) and would like to know your opinion).
good video but how do you turn the AC, i read pagess 29-37 (2004) the car is at the shop getting refriderient refill but they need to compressor/AC set up ON . I have the car for years and still can not figure it out. i tried recirc mode and defoster mode .
so are you sure we supposed to change the transmission fluid in the n63 every 50k miles? mine has 86k so far....so filter and fluide change is recommended?
Hi. Nope, God willing. Thank goodness for the upcoming EVs in 2021 and 2022:-) I think I like EVs now, coz' I'd love to breath fresh air, even in big cities.
Phaeton is more comfortable and refined than the A8. A8 is meant to be sportier like BMW 7-Series whilst Phaeton is more comfort oriented like the Mercedes Benz S-Class
@@Kogaion78 D3 has the same reliability. Phaeton and A8 are very similar and share most of the same parts so reliability is the same; only the A8 won’t rust obviously.

As an owner of this car, I can tell you that this car is amazing, but the maintenance is expensive and God forbid if you have any repairs with this car.
Yep, there are too many problems with VWs. I don't care if it is the Jetta, Golf, Rabbit, or the higher end like this one. They are just annoyingly unreliable. A luxury car with little problems will be a Lexus. That is what I prefer to drive and own. VWs are great if you like to spend money on little broken things. Lots of fun.
man i know many 1.9 tdi , awx engine code that have more than 300.000 km from much long time, no problem with that engine ,and maybe that km are no real that engines possible to have more than that, i think vw only make one unbreakable engine 1.9, any engine code from 90 to 150

Clear presentation! The best!
I would love to import a V-10 2007 Phaeton if you could upgrade the infotainment screen to the 2014-16 model.
Thanks for the Great review my Friend .
Very informative and entertaining video! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Very helpful video.
I dont know which make your videos awesome, your accent or the content, i think the both
The content is absolutely great but I couldn't bear that accent as it was killing my ears.
Amazing review, keep up the good work!
Had a phaeton before, honestly was an excellent car. Just after so many years, the infotainment was outdated. It would have been nice to have later year phaeton's in the US
Hideous maintenance costs, buy Lexus LS, just as good to drive and more comfortable, plus really reliable
I've had the same LS for 22 years. Great! Had its first repair 2 mo. ago.
Won’t be more comfortable to drive but will definitely be more comfortable for your wallet.
Brilliant review. Thanks
Excellent and very thorough
Thanks for the great video! Could you make a video on the 2nd and 3rd gen Lexus RX (i know they aren't very popular here in Europe but i think they are great cars (the non-hybrids) and would like to know your opinion).
How to DISARM THE ENGINE IMMOBILIZER for 2002 VW Phaeton v8
good video but how do you turn the AC, i read pagess 29-37 (2004) the car is at the shop getting refriderient refill but they need to compressor/AC set up ON . I have the car for years and still can not figure it out. i tried recirc mode and defoster mode .
id rather buy a phaeton v6 tdi than any golf, sedans are rare nowadays
VW PHAETON ~nice car
really very very good
l Love VW PHAETON
so are you sure we supposed to change the transmission fluid in the n63 every 50k miles? mine has 86k so far....so filter and fluide change is recommended?
I love your videos.
Amazing as normal 👍🏼
That intro was funny.
Can you make a review about the Mitsubishi Pajero
Would love to see a review of the land rover LR3 and LR4 (aka discovery 3 and 4 for non us markets)
Great accent and reat review!
Should one buy one? A 2004 model? Would it be worth it?
From 2004?? Omg no. Don't do it...Or well I hope you didn't do it since your comment is 1 year old :D
Hi. Nope, God willing. Thank goodness for the upcoming EVs in 2021 and 2022:-) I think I like EVs now, coz' I'd love to breath fresh air, even in big cities.
Exellent presentation

Thanks for sharing

the first generation Q7 vid is here: ua-cam.com/video/04o6oK1J5fM/v-deo.html
would you buy this over a a8 d3 ???....why ???.......
Phaeton is more comfortable and refined than the A8. A8 is meant to be sportier like BMW 7-Series whilst Phaeton is more comfort oriented like the Mercedes Benz S-Class
@@Swiss4.2
yes....even categorically is like that.......but d3 is much more reliable and it has aluminum body....I'm not sure to buy it over d3......
@@Kogaion78 D3 has the same reliability. Phaeton and A8 are very similar and share most of the same parts so reliability is the same; only the A8 won’t rust obviously.
@@Swiss4.2
I knew bentley-continental is the sibling of phaeton.....
I really hope that d3 is much more reliable than phaeton coz phaeton is not at all reliable!....from what I've heard everybody runs from it....
ohh....by the way......what 95% is aluminum ???......of what exactly ???.....of all metal on the car ??......coz how can the interior for ex. by just 5% of the car ???.....or in other words what metal parts are not aluminum lol ???......
(me still incline to buy d3 as my lux-car.....)
Amazing.
I wana buy one. 2002 production year, W12 engine, 188 000 km, that is it it hasnt been meddled with. Oener says that It drives fine, but some electrical stuff should be worked on.
What do you think?
Stay far far away
how much is it?
Please make Review for HONDA PRELUDE
Are you Hungarian?
Imperial Reaction yes, he is
I owned 2003 Vw Phaeton 3.2, I liked it, but yes, always it have some problems, and always you can find what to fix. This is my owned Phaeton short video ua-cam.com/video/4Kg39IbwV90/v-deo.html
You just convinced me to not buy.
Moneypit
As an owner of this car, I can tell you that this car is amazing, but the maintenance is expensive and God forbid if you have any repairs with this car.
Buying advice. DO NOT F... BUT IT. You're welcome :)
is a good car but is a huge money pit
Phaeton#
Is it a joe daki talking canot understand the language
Wow too many problem with this car..It seems this car brand is simply not reliable at all...
VWs are good cars. Almost all luxury cars have more problems since they have more features that can break.
@@tjallaballa huh really.. ok noted. Tq bro
Lots of fun.
man i know many 1.9 tdi , awx engine code that have more than 300.000 km from much long time, no problem with that engine ,and maybe that km are no real that engines possible to have more than that, i think vw only make one unbreakable engine 1.9, any engine code from 90 to 150
👍👍😍😍😍💕💕
Best advice for buying a VW Phaeton - Don´t!
Why? Personal experience? I'm considering buying so any heads up appreciated!
Sounds like passat is the better option lol
The Accent XDDDD
1) Crappy gearbox
2) Fuel consumption = son of gas station license.
