      @@bryansmith536. Mega high quality. I’ve had 4 Porsche 911’s, 2 Mercedes Benz, a 2010 GT500, and the 2 Lexus models. The Lexus was every bit the high quality the Porsches were and definitely online with the Mercedes Benz as well. Lexus is it’s own division. They may use the same frames, but the extra expenses of higher quality materials are definitely there. I’m hoping they come up with some EJ2-powered twin turbo F models. Almost all cars on the road are built to last 150k miles with only fluid changes. 100k isn't much especially for a lexus. Please make sure to read your manual to find out when you have to change each of the fluids, many people think they only have to change oil which is ridiculous. It should last about 200k miles with proper fluid changes before the alternator/water pump goes. After that it should easily last you until 300k before another part like that goes.

If you get something that’s been abused and has problems it can be just as terrible to sort out as anything. The odometer had 397K miles and still running strong. It really comes down to looking for the problem areas of the specific model you're looking to buy to avoid headaches and repairs. First off who buys Lexus vehicles? They tend to be mature people that want reliability, comfort, and a stylish well appointed vehicle. A new Lexus is not cheap so people with a good income buy them. They can afford to make sure they are maintained. Lexus vehicles are not sports cars they are luxury vehicles, so they are driven accordingly. Most Lexus vehicles use regular gas. The venerable V6 will probably be phased out and replaced with a turbo 4 cyl. that will get better gas mileage but require premium fuel. Lexus vehicles with a normally aspirated engine are mated to a 6-speed or 8-speed geared very good transmission. Lexus is a Toyota product that has the same design that can be maintained easily concept. The exaust system is stainless steel, and the body is well constructed with good steel. The only issue you can run into on the V6 is a timing cover oil leak that is expensive to repair but it is fairly rare. Like any vehicle, you inspect it or have a mechanic go over it before you buy but Lexus used vehicles are generally a good bet. Or buy a used one from a Lexus dealer. They are not going to sell you a problem vehicle.
      BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi are nice vehicles but the parts and maintenance are very expensive. Who wants to have to change a timing chain at 200,000 km or sooner? They all use premium gas. They are not DIY-friendly vehicles in general. These days even a chain garage will charge you $130. per hour and they all nickel and dime you for scanner use, acetylene use, shop supplies etc. They are also up charging a lot on parts. The BMW, Mercedes, and Audi dealers will charge you $200. an hour and use shop scale book times for repairs. So a vehicle you can DIY makes sense.

    16 months ago, I bought a 2013 Lexus ES 350 with 35k miles on it. 1 owner, garage-kept, like new. Paid $21k for it. Now has 47k miles on it. I keep it garage kept, detailed, but since I moved much closer to work I only put about 50 miles a week on it now. I can attest that the 3.5L V6 is one of the best NA V6's ever made, very refined with smooth reliable power. I did put aftermarket wheels on it, black with machined accents that make it look more like a F-Sport, even though there was no F-Sport option in 2013, and it handles better with the 18x8.5" wheels. Only problem I had was the bearing in the idler pulley dried up and went south. So I bought a new idler pulley and tensioner pulley while I was at it, and new drive belt, and all-in spent $120 and did them all. Besides basic maintenance, that's all I've spent on the car. It is a great balanced car to drive, pretty much my favorite car that I've owned. Looks good, feels good, gives me a chub.

    Good practical and helpful video. I have owned Lexuses since 1996 and my current 2015 RX350 for the last 7 years. I bought it as a service loaner...CPO..with 10K miles and it now has 90000 miles and is in very good condition. I usually upgrade to a new or new Lexus every 4-5 years but due to the market conditions of the last 2 years i decided to keep the 2015 as i have always carefully maintained it .I just had new brakes installed front and rear and getting 89000 on the original brakes is phenomenal in my opinion. Because even RXs as old as 2020 models are selling for very close to MSRP if the mileage is moderate, Im not willing to pay that kind of money for one that old even though it would suit me fine, especially if it was CPO. I dont trust Lexus dealers like i used to ,even with their CPO cars so if and when i decide to buy another CPO Lexus I will get a pre purchase inspection to keep them honest before i make a deal. The ES350....i have had 2....is actually my fav Lexus but we need an SUV so I usually buy the RX these days, but would love to have another ES even if it was an old 2010 or so model.

    • @whocares0316
      @whocares0316 Рік тому +1

      @@he6005 I have never seen any seller, private or dealer, who would pay for a pre purchase inspection. The potential buyer has to pay for it . Importantly, to avoid wasting your money, get a sales price agreement in WRITING which includes a contingency that the sale will only be completed if the pre purchase inspection is to the buyer's satisfaction. Otherwise you can spend $150-200 for the inspection, decide to buy the car and find that you and the seller cant agree on a price. Additionally, if the inspection shows problems with the car the buyer can use that as a basis for negotiation of the seller's price, or walk away from the deal depending on the severity of the problems indentified by the inspector. Finally, who you select for the inspection is critical because various inspection services dont all offer the same depth or detail of the inspection. When you hire an inspection service, make sure you specify and they guarantee in writing the exact details their inspection will include. A good example might be a compression test which most inspections do NOT usually include, but which is critical in a used car of older cars.

    • @whocares0316
      @whocares0316 Рік тому

      @@he6005 All i can say is that in 30 years of buying used Lexuses...both certified and other...i NEVER had a pre purchase inspection done on one and never had a mechanical problem with any of them. Now, however, i think times have changed because I have in the past year started seeing people who bought a CPO Lexus subsequently have mechanical problems only to find out that the Lexus dealer had actually NOT performed some of the 161 points of inspections they rave about while they charge on average $2000 extra for a CPO Lexus vs what the car would sell for it if wasnt certified. So if i were you unless you are trying to buy a Service Loaner with 10K or less mileage, or something similar, i would spend the $150-200 for the pre purchase inspection. Lexuses have gone up so much in price that you really cant afford to take a chance.. It is true that if the car is CPO you have the CPO warranty to fall back on but there are lots of mechanical items that no CPO warranty covers and fixing a Lexus isnt cheap! Finally, before i hone in on a Lexus i want to buy, especially used, I evaluate the DEALER who is selling the car. The QUALITY of Lexus dealers "aint what it used to be" and that is an understatement. And the caliber of Lexus salesman isnt what it used to be. I dont normally ever buy a used Lexus from anyone but a Lexus dealer unless it is from a new car non Lexus dealer who has a nice Lexus trade in they are trying to sell. I bought a brand new 2021 Lexus IS300 F sport, switching over from a BMW 335. I looked at the new G-series BMW 330 at the time and decided to get the Lexus instead. This is a very accurate review as no car is best at all things and BMW certainly had the more modern interior design, some better technology, a better transmission. I did observe the Lexus to be superior in sound, luxury, build quality, design and having better seats alongside a more compelling engine (3.5 n/a V6 seemed more compelling than a 2.0T 4 cylinder). I do miss the 335, as leaky as it was lol. I think BMWs are great second cars for fun but I think most people will find greater utility in a car that excels in look, sound, luxury and longevity - these are all season commuters after all. Down to preference I would say, but I am sticking with my Lexus for my main and I'll get something fun on the side later down.

    I am a Lexus convert since 2012 got a 2012 CT 200h for my son’s college and errands.
    In 2015 I got the FSport RX 350 (certified) in 2021 and 2022 a premium and luxury RX 350 respectively (still in my garage and both certified) last December my son bought (on his own a new NX 450h) and he is very happy.

    I have owned a 92 sc300 drove it to 350k with basic maintenance, one alternator and rear wheel bearings. A 97 es300 drove it to 330k with basic maintenance when it got hit. I own a 03 es 300 now it has right at 350k on it, basic maintenance only. I'm looking at buying another one now but they are great cars if you drive a lot. Very comfortable and ride well. The maintenance on every one but the LS is very affordable and easy for dyi people.

    Lexus SUV's/crossovers are classy vehicles, but something that is more versatile and practical would be the first-generation Kia Rondo with the 2.7 L V6 engine and the five-speed automatic transmission, the second-generation Hyundai Santa Fe with the 3.3 L V6 engine and the five-speed automatic transmission and the first-generation Nissan Versa (hatchback) with the 1.8 L four-cylinder engine and the four-speed automatic transmission. Thank you very much.

I don’t have much rust underneath but did oil spray it before the winter. Thanks for the heads up about under the top of the hood… not rust that I see, but it was well taken care of before I got it.

    You can get 2+ year old ES models for $35k all day long which is how much a NEW Accord costs... not even a loaded Accord either. Even the Civic Touring is up around $32k. So it's a pretty good deal if you can buy an ES. Lots more features and amenities in the Lexus at that price (like cooled seats, quiet inside, nicer trim level, etc.).

    I agree new Lexus is better deal than 1-3 year old Lexus. But I think a new hybrid Toyota is better value than a 4-10 year old Lexus. You can hold onto the Toyota for 4-6 years until you can get a lightly used Lexus at reasonable price. Many people are stuck in the mindset of new car being bad value, and they haven't adapted to current market dynamics. Another factor is that in 3 years there will be a shortage of 3 year old hybrid Toyota/Lexus, so they will demand a higher than normal price.

    Even if it's a Lexus, you have to get a good maintenance record, carfax and a good inspection for it. It could have been abused. I would look for something 2012 or newer for the GS, ES and IS models. Some of the Lexus 3.5 engines can develop a front timing chain cover oil leak, which is a known issue. It's a $2k plus repair. That's where the inspection part comes in 👍

    Engineering Background here coming form my reliable Toyota Camry. What are the advantages of going with F Sport Handling vs the luxury non F sport? I don't mind $49,000 but I might get it a couple of years used so I could get it for $35,000. 3 years used, around 45,000 miles. Even if it is 5 years old and has 75,000 miles, a Lexus can go over 250,000 miles. The grill can be a bit polarizing and not a huge fan of it but it's not the WORST grill out in the market, it's just a bit in your face. I like the grill on the GX 550 the best. I am going to get an ES 350 F sport Handling for my every day car and a GX 550 Ovetrail +. I am not going to go for the RX because it's not that good in towing and I prefer body on frame so I can go off road.
