- A leading academic told The National Desk (TND) Wednesday she is a victim of plagiarism at the hands of embattled Harvard University President Dr. Claudine Gay.
Dr. Carol Swain is a political scientist and legal scholar whose academic background includes institutions such as Yale University and the University of North Carolina.

I had to replay Dr. Swain's comment about "a white male or female, or even a black conservative". Then I got it. Her observations have nothing to do with racist rhetoric. Her words are eloquently spot on. I find it baffling that "Dr." Gay's thesis wouldn't have met with questioning early on. This isn't my first rodeo. Thesis approval is significant just by itself. Citations, reviews, approvals, rejections, and then defending a thesis is not for the faint of heart.
I am also not hearing two obvious questions being asked: what school or who issued her degree (who condoned this course of deception)? Why did the approvals process not catch blatant copyright thievery? And just how was it that Harvard was also hoodwinked? Didn't they perform due diligence in the sifting and interview process? How was it that nobody anywhere caught this--or if they did they were silenced? Software programs can spot plagiarism from less than one paragraph away. Didn't anybody think of employing this kind of technology as part of the vetting process? The burden of academic failure rests not just on one person, one committee, or one university. Nevertheless this type of failure should never be taken lightly.
There is little integrity left at any point in academia. It has become a numbers game. Schools of higher learning have become expensive degree mills, bestowing false honors upon the undeserving. And it is the undeserving and underqualified that are now coming into places of high visibility and leadership. We are witnessing the results of "dumb it down and bump them up anyway". A hand-in-glove reality says:: "Let the academic correctional path and accountability be handled by the next school." Failure and falsehood is always someone else's fault.

For example calling for a genocide or attack on a group of people should be something that is examined closely and prosecuted under the statues of law.
