  • Sony just announced a new 247 Megapixel medium format sensor. You can find the specs here: www.sony-semicon.com/en/produ...
    I am sure we will see a camera using this sensor within the next 12 months. Likely from Hasselblad and Phase One...but my dream is to see a fixed lens Sony camera using this sensor!

    surprised they havent made a full frame sensor/camera with a monochrome sensor. would technically have 2-3stops better ISO performance than colour.

    lets see if sony will make curved sensors for medium format camera 200 Megapixel with a 70mm sensor that would be a challenge and a bigger one for the lenses and then you can kiss goodbye panavision 70mm film

    Got this on my feed, thought it was a new video. I'd rather see a new ~50MP medium format camera instead of more pixels. There is no use case unless you have to crop for some reason. The read noise on higher ISO on full frame A7RV and medium format GFX 100II is very high. 247MP would have insane noise even when just going to 320 ISO. Hell I'd even have a ~30MP medium format camera, imagine the clean images.

    A curved image plane allows for a simpler lens design, since the divergent elements necessary to flatten the projected image plane are no longer necessary. That said, a camera incorporating such a sensor wouldrequire lenses that are specifically designed to image on the curved plane, and of course those lenses would not work on any other type of camera.

    So, it is actually 6cm by 4.5cm?
    This means any camera featuring this sensor will probably cost tens of thousands of dollars.

    How about this sensor in a modern Pentax 6x7 body? For commercial and landscape work, all the system needs is 3-4 prime lenses. That would be a beast of a camera.
    Sony, give the sensor to Pentax. You know they can do it right and do it cheap enough for the masses to afford. They did it with 645D and 645Z. They can do it again. A monochrome version would be sublime! A quick math tells you this sensor you can print a 40"x60" enlargment at 300dpi. Wow!

    I’ve been toying with the idea of buying into the GFX system for a hobby/ boutique camera to go with my Alphas but if a Sony was to enter into the foray with their own and had many of its usual features, AF, even just 8-10fps, decent processors, and that 9.44mp EVF I’d jump into it.. but sadly I doubt we’ll see a Sony medium format camera.. the mind boggles just thinking of the processing power it would take to shoot even 5fps at 247mp and they would have to use an CF type B and/or internal SSD .. type A won’t cut it.. cheers fellas!

    • @jeroenvdw
      @jeroenvdw 6 днів тому +1

      Sony A7RV can't even shoot 10 FPS with 61MP, I think it's 7 FPS. A camera with the same processor and 247MP would shoot at like 2 FPS.

    • @possisvideos
      @possisvideos 3 місяці тому +1

      yes, will be possible, but not with a speed boster, but with an special extender 1,66x which has an big enough image circle. you have to know you will lose lens resolution. With this type of sensor only the best, specifically made lens will deliver.❤

    Leica are working on a new MF system, maybe this is for them especially with a monochrome version. Maybe they see an opportunity to undercut Phase One but provided similar IQ but in a mirrorless body rather than a modular one. Just my wild speculations

    This sensor in it's full form might actually have Leica as one of their first customers as they are rumoured to lauch a new mirrorless MF system. For the Hasselblad/GFX the sensor will be around 200 to 180MP when cropped to the correct size. Furthermore it will become a 100MP FF starting with a Sony a7RVI and 60MP APS-C probably with a Fujifilm X-H3 of some sort. All of this is 2 to 3 years away at least. Now what I want to know is where are the sensor's vídeo specs? No info at all anywhere about that yet.

    Sony’s already making cameras for every niche it seems. Why break that trend by merging two cameras? I’m hoping for a fixed-EVF and other upgrades with the A7s IV.
    A few more megapixels would be great, but only if the performance doesn’t suffer.

  • @cryvee
    @cryvee 3 місяці тому

    If you do the math and take the pixel pitch of that sensor and build a ff sensor with that architecture, then it would be around 108mp.
    Imo thats too much. Im hoping for a 75-85mp sensor in the next a7r vi

    If Sony wanted to make a MF camera they would have done it by now…they obviously have the sensors..its just a matter of the body design and of course a new MF lens mount..maybe there is an agreement with lets say Fuji or Hassleblad that Sony said..we will sell you the sensors but we won’t get into your MF market..which Fuji and Hasselblad obviously has had and are really the only consumer cameras you can get in the MF market..lol

    • @yuidfbse

      Sony only makes what can make them bulk profit. They will never make a MF camera as they can't make crap with that not to mention the market being saturated already.. no chance what so ever.

    1:00 That is blatantly wrong! Any you could have checked this easily yourself.
    The IMX461 and IMX411 are both NOT industrial grade sensors. They are specified as sensors for consumer use in digital cameras.
    The new IMX811 is an industrial grade sensor and will not be used in a consumer grade camera.
    And yes, a 60.000 EUR MF camera is still consumer grade in Sonys sensor lineup. It is not industrial.

      Also, it's still way smaller and lighter than DSLR ever was. Go pick up a D850 or a 5D Mk 2, 3, or 4. They're huge compared to even the a7Rv or a7iv.
