I really hope this leak is real, Super Mario RPG has some of the coolest original characters like Boshi, Smithy, and of course Geno himself so it'd be sick to see they come back and potentially grow to being Mario mainstays.

Oh my God... The fact that Pyoro highlighted "WONDER" in that Tweet was genius. We had no idea at the time, but he really did know. I also like how some people thought the classic SNES game Pyoro was talking about could be Chrono Trigger, and some people even prepared some "Crono kills Geno" memes just in case.
Yeah, sorry I didn't watch this video sooner. I actually just found out about that Zippo 2D Mario leak last night and I didn't realize PapaGenos already talked about it. The fact that Zippo said Foreman Spike will be involved in the 2D Mario game REALLY excited me, since he was always one of my favorite obscure Mario characters and I was hoping Nintendo would use him more after he was featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

I'm keeping my expectations low, because this has always been rumored, but if it actually happens, this would explain why SMRPG hasn't appeared on the NSO. Hoping that it does though! 🤞

Yeah the fact that it was on the SNES Classic but a no show for NSO has always been really weird
There were also rumors that we were getting a remake of the Earthbound games in the style of Link's Awakening though and that was the explanation why we didn't have it on the NSO. Then it just showed up one day. So I wouldn't necessarily count the absence of it on NSO being evidence for it showing up in some other capacity

Hey PapaGenos I missed you so much! Welcome back! A Super Mario RPG remake is something I’ve always wanted since last year’s Live A Live Remake! It would help get Geno himself, Mallow, Boshi, and the other cool characters in the public conscious. Especially Geno since he’s mostly known for being a most wanted inclusion in Smash which I think is kinda sad, hoping the remake is real!💙🌟

But if its true, the amount of hype that'd be put in my veins would be insane. A remake of this game would be a perfect potential way to get Mario RPGs overall back to their feet. Though I have concerns on if a remake can live up to the original's very specific charm... I always thought one had potential.
I swear, if it happens, this can finally give us Geno fans a win after so many years of suffering. And best believe I'd be side eyeballing folks who clowned Geno fans for years and are n o w magically excited for this game too lmao.

1 small thing if not mentioned already though. There's been rumors about a possible remake of Fire Emblem genealogy of the holy war for a few years now. Which is considered an SNES classic as well so it might also be that. Although seeing both announced would be epic
Yeah, a full-blown reimagining of something as bizarre and unique as SMRPG seems like something Old Nintendo would've done. A remake of Genealogy of the Holy War/another Fire Emblem game on the Switch seems more like something Modern Nintendo does.
@RoboFist's Revenge Could also technically maybe see Chrono Trigger as a very slim chance. Only reason I could even see that as a small possibility is because they updated Chrono cross recently and just added in the music to final bar line. But that's basically most likely a coincidence more than anything else.
I do love it when I'm wrong though.

Honestly If SMRPG DOES get a Remake,I’d be interested in giving it a try! It could especially PROPERLY Introduce me to Geno.
If this happens, hopefully Geno and Mallow start appearing in more spinoffs like Mario Kart and Smash!

I will say that this would honestly be better than Geno getting into Smash without a new game. The game would give the character and the world of Super Mario RPG life again. Then the Smash appearance could then happen and you’d really be cooking

Man. Even if they uses Square HD2D engine and had full rendered characters models, I would still be beyond stoked to see a remake of any caliber. My first RPG still happens to be my favorite. Mayne my favorite Mario game.

I honestly just think the Mario RPG stuff is all going to lead up to the game just dropping on NOS. That would be awesome either way but all the remake talk is getting my hopes up
I hope they do it in an artstyle similar to the remake of Link's Awakening.
And I hope it paves the doorway open for a sequel. Finally some good Mario RPGs.

As soon as I saw that the remake could be happening, I IMMEDIATELY thought of you, with my mind going, “Oh, SHOOT! PapaGenos is gonna FLIP if this is real!” This has been one of my most wanted remakes for a LONG time, and with more games getting the HD-2D treatment, my hopes and wishes for the remake have only been strengthened! It would be A-*MAZE*-ING to see Geno and Mallow in HD!

I really really really miss the old, but nostalgic game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I really wish there were some or even many more games like it showing Mario, Mallow, Geno, Bowser, Peach, and others.

Hey papa genos! Big fan here! I wanted to say I REALLY loved your game rumor videos! I think that if you branched out to other game franchises and other studios with leaks that be awesome!
So for what it's worth, I actually remember during the SmashDLC season that Fatmanonice kept repeating that he had heard rumors of an SMRPG remake happening or at least some sort of a remaster. That he went down over the whole Geno being just a costume stuff and everybody melting down on smashboards, but that still stuck with me. Some of the other stuff he said hasn't really been vouched or come true, so maybe I'm just sticking to it because I want it to happen. But I distinctly remember him going on about it excessively.
I'll also add that we had that leak, supposedly, during the same time from square that listed off characters they were thinking about. It correctly suggested we were getting sephiroth and also talked about Sora if I'm not mistaken. But it also did talk about once again Geno and sort of mentioned that The smash team and the people at square both don't understand his appeal while also not really being sure about what to do with the character because he isn't relevant as he has had no new games.

I have a feeling that the SNES remake is for Fire Emblem 4. When the original leak for FE Engage came out, the leaker said that an FE4 remake was "nearing completion" and we haven't heard anything else about it since.
I'd be happy for either game though, since FE4 is one of my favorite games ever, and Mario RPG is in my top 10 SNES games.
Oh yhea, the internal working tittle for Engaged was numbered 3 i believe, Where Three Houses was numbered 1, meaning they where working on another game before Engage
Considoring how close Nintendo has worked with Square publishing and/or promoting several of their HD-2D games the past few years I think it'd make a lot of sense for them to work on a Mario RPG remake in that art style

Maybe it’ll be a remake and then they’ll add extra stuff to the game, kind of like how they did with Chrono Cross in a way, and how they did with Mario 3D World by adding Bowser’s Fury.
Personally wouldn't get my hopes up because I've also heard that it's Chrono Trigger as the next HD2D and that just seems more realistic and makes WAY more sense
But on the other hand it could be both
However I still doubt this would lead to Geno in Smash due to what I'm calling "The corporate hierarchy"(basically the reason Dante, Lloyd, and Travis aren't on the roster) unless this becomes is Square's highest selling game ever
An SMRPG remake would be HUGE and could genuinely change everything for the Mario franchise. So many forgotten characters will finally be relevant again and could give characters like Geno a second chance. If this is all real, this along with the new Mario game will totally be worth all of the farming games they throw at us next Direct.

The legend has returned. This rumor is highly possible since nintendo has not announced any new mario game that is upcoming. If mario rpg comes back then hopefully that means that super princess peach could get a remake as well

There is at least 4 possibilities, Chrono trigger remake is one I imagine with how successful Live A Live was they would probably think that remaking chrono trigger with updated sprites, remastered music, and voice acting would be enough to get a ton of money, Super mario rpg according to a lot of leaks now but I think people reading the leak of a SNES game getting remade are just looking at any snes game now, Super metroid is one that could be remade by mercury stream as it was rumored quite awhile ago, and Link to the past was also one of those where it would be remade too. It's hard to say what is true because a SNES classic being remade is so vague.

Keep in mind that Actraiser Renaissance was both announced and released the day a direct happened. And not a single person was talking about it in leaks as much as I remember

around 2-3 years ago, Fire emblem engage was leaked, along with them mentioning a remake of fire emblem 4 genealogy of the holy war, A SNES game. there was another leak before Three hopes, that said a new fire emblem game (Engage), A spin off(Three hopes), and a remake (the last of the three fe games, Fire emblem 4.) I think the SNES remake is Fire emblem.
to go into more detail, the leak about engage, went into alot of detail about it, months before the game came out, and that was the same leak that mentioned Fe4 being remade.

I don’t think relevancy, and quote on quote dated charm of a game is a fair excuse for Geno not being in Smash Bros. I thought we learned by now that characters don’t need to have a spotlight in the public eye to hint for Smash. We literally got characters that has only been in one or two characters that didn’t even took off to be a bigger franchise. In fact Smash is the only game where we see more representation of Nintendo icons in a spin-off fighting game over their self contain series. Part of the hype with character revels is receiving that shock factor of having older characters making comebacks. And even if they make a return, clearly it doesn’t imply that they’re getting a new big game of their own. It’s always a gamble of newer hot franchise characters, and fan favorite mind blowing characters that impacted the gaming industry. I gues because Geno falls in the weird category of being a one off, spin-off character. Unless they wanna break the mold. But I have no idea why he’s such a profound character to be vocally requested for Smash.

A Nintendo Direct soon seems really likely. There's a small thing, the Nintendo Switch News app, they started putting out little tidbits about the MK8D Wave 4 DLC courses, and for previous waves, they put these little tidbits out around when the new wave was being released/announced (e.g. they put out the Wave 3 features when Wave 4 was released/announced). They do 2 courses at a time, and they've put out 2 for now, so we're just days away from an announcement I would say.

@PapaGenos Do you think, if we have a Super Mario RPG Remake, do you think they would address all the misinterpretations Square made when they created it? Like the misnamed enemies and assumptions? Maybe fix that missing hidden block? I mean, the characters themselves are amazing, but I do wonder how they flip it around so it's Mario lore compliant?
I can think of two possibilities regarding the word "wonder" being put in a fancy font. The first is maybe it's part of the title of the new 2D Mario game. The second possibility is kind of a long shot. Maybe it's referencing Balan Wonderworld, which was co-developed by Square Enix. Trying to give another hint at it being Square developed?

This would be nice. I never got to play Super Mario RPG; I've only listened to an AOLP of it, but I'd love to get a chance to play it. Still baffles me why they haven't put it on the NSO service, but I suppose this would be why if the rumor holds true.
I've had an uneasy feeling that the recent talk and releasing of Mario RPG concept art from developers is just revving up nostalgia bait for stuff like merchandise kind of like the weird post-smash limbo Banjo is in right now; releasing statues and stuff like that, counting on us thinking that if we support any and everything official, they'll have to notice and make something more tangible like a game, right?
Anyway, let's just hope I'm proven wrong in the coming weeks.
