A video of Lee and Pete simply messing around with bluesy overdrive pedals with Lee using his flamey 58 reissue Les Paul and Pete using a masterbuilt 54 Strat? Andertons you just delivered an absolute blinder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They've already announced this will be a thing multiple times in comment sections. There will be a "Captain meets Danish Pete" episode coming in the near future.
I often think Captain A is like a kid in a sweet shop with pedals. Andertons seem to stock a huge range of them and i am sure the salesman love visiting with their new products.
Thank you so much for making this shootout video, and a special thanks for putting Part 2, the Full Story online. Very few people are in a position to A/B 40+ overdrive pedals in real life, and the Full Story video really highlights the differences (or not) between them. I also felt like the room mic alone made the tonal differences standout a little more than in the Part 1 video. Would love to see more of these shootout videos for other pedal types!!
I would kill for an Andertons in the states, preferably in Austin. I’d go there every day and would support you guys over scummy guitar center any day.
Man, I could not agree with you more (except in Philly, hehe)!! Please start an Andertons USA chain, Capt!! Or if that's a tad expensive, how about an Andertons USA tour after NAMM 2018??!?
Think about it, they could do an Italian mob thing! One Boss for each region! One for the Midwest, the Northeast, The Southwest, and the Southeast! Dibs on Pete for Austin, his tone would fit so well here lmao.
Now What1 finally. Dude! I say the same thing everyday. Not one store within center city philly. A city with clubs and bands and the sound of philly and a ton of guitarists. Not one decent store. Unless u want a $99 acoustic that's it. Philly open a boutique store. Aka meaning nice gear, new gear and maybe boredom wouldn't be an issue. It could be a great city.
Ed Halbach I think it's a great lead pedal. If you noticed, most pedals that ended up in the "good" pile are rather transparent in the mids, the added mids of the clone-ish style and boost style pedals can sound too spikey or pronounced in isolation. That's my guess at least by the way they chose
Hi. Without being (wholly) self serving, a show on pairing overdrives with Vox AC amps would benefit many I feel. Vox AC style amps are reputed to be very hard to pair with overdrives, and many come unstuck here. It would be great to hear your collective experience applied to choices of overdrives to pair with Vox AC amps, both normal and, especially, top boost channels (since some models only come with top boost circuitry). Even your friends at That Pedal Show I think neglected to mention whether using the top boost or not when they did the five modern ODs into three amps episode. Thanks for all the hard work.
Thank you for agreeing with my ears on the OCD, it's a great pedal for many purposes I'm sure but it's not a blues pedal to me. It has too much gain, and if you already have a decently high gain amp... It's a double no go.
Imho the best are: 1st) Xotic BB (I got the Custom Shop edition with mids pot and its my favorite pedal of all time) 2nd) Mad Professor (very similar to BB but I like it, so...) 3rd) Tone city (not just for value/money, but under 100€/£/$ number one so far!) ...but you guys forget 4 gems: Timmy, Rockbox Classic Blues, Wampler Euphoria/Extacy and EWS Brute drive!
You guys should do a review of the PRS 509! That would be awesome and I'm looking at buying one, but I'm curious just how versatile it is. Maybe what it sounds like for blues stuff and metal stuff as well. Love your videos guys!!!
I got a free Sweet Cream from Andertons last year in an offer, but relegated it to the Ebay pile. I'm a blueser and even tried it again recently but no, not for me at all. I just bought a Keeley D&M and that's the dogs' for me.
Great video but i cant help but wonder if it had been a blind test whether the results would be the same, its hard not to be influenced by a favorite pedal...
It really depends on the version you have and how you set it. I have a version 7 and love it. I also use it with the gain all the way off, or almost all the way off for a light crunch, which is probably not how most use it.
BJamin4God it's not that I didn't like it, I just didn't bond with it. Odd. I do a similar thing with my J Rockett Archer. Gain very low, volume and treble a bit above unity. It makes my cleans sound amazing. Just gives them a harmonic richness.
At what point did Overdrive Overload Fatigue set in ? Can't help wondering how many would have past the first cut if humbuckers Les Paul as well as the Strat had been used at that stage? A fun romp through the pedals whatever. Wot? Too Marshall'y ? Like no one ever used Marshalls for blues.... ;^)
Sir Monte Carlo Actually I'd say these kind of pedals with their high sales volume make much more profit for companies and retailers than expensive boutique stuff. But if you insist on a negative connotation you could still say it's not in here because it sells without extra promotion ; )
I saw them run thru the Keeley Phat Mod early in the vid. It's a great pedal with 2 different gain settings. I understand it's Robert's original Blues Driver Mods in its own pedal. I think it rocks!
Not that there's any real system to this, but a single reference pedal would have made it easier. But how do you choose a reference pedal when it's all subjective?
Sergio Acosta not at all, that pete bloke is a bit strange, he didn’t like the ts808 either which is one if not THE most iconic blues drive pedals. The soul food is great, but since it’s a klon clone i would go for the JHS soul food, i hear they’ve nailed the klon sound on that one.
All the "transparent" overdrives work better if you turn up the volume, not the gain, i would never meh a soul food. But it's your choice though. And this is really entertaining
More of a driven blues sound is what you’re going for here rather than laid back blues. Just basing it on what you’re playing and what you’re throwing back (boosts without enough drive). Bunch of them are tubescreamer clones that all sound the same. Funny an actual tubescreamer didn’t make the try me pile. Last opinion: Miku got robbed!
Listening to someone play an overdrive or boost with a different guitar and amp than you have- is totally pointless. At least half the sound of the overdrive depends directly on what it's overdriving- and which pickup you use makes a huge difference as well- so you can bet it's not going to sound like this when you hook it up at home. Still fun to watch though- just for kicks. And you can get an idea of the eq curve that's baked into the drive- if there is any- but that's about it.
Question?, this goes out to Pete, you are a great sounding guitar player are, in a band? What is your style an do you have any studio work,, also what's your go to axe, are you a strat or les paul... Guy,... Just curios I know of most of the anderton musicians except yourself sorry to come off as the IRS, just currios that's all...
Why wasnt Pete blindfolded or at least a turned around so he couldnt see the pedals? I think if you're able to see the pedals then you're obviously going to pick the ones you like most.
These are the vid's that make the channel what it is. Please fine tune the process and make them the standard for picking a pedal. There must be a shield from the player so they are not seeing the brand. Keep them at the 12 o clock and then let the player tell you what to do before the crazy full-null on the dial spinning begins. Most pedals tweek about 5 degrees on the knob either way to find the tone, not swishing back and forth. Don't get me wrong these are fantastic, but the potential has not been reached. There is the tendency to try and make them all sound the same, or make the next pedal sound like the last. It should not be, can we make them all sound the same, but rather what does this do best. Pee first also. Good sound quality on your channel i why i ask you all at Anderton's to be the best, because you showcase things the best.
I really like Pete's playing..... but I wish he would disagree with Lee once in a while..... dude you can have a opinion, I no he's the boss but you gotta stop being the yes guy, try saying no once in a while.
After 40+ yrs having accumulated enough pedals to open a store this is routine. Do what they are doing endlessly swapping/tweaking..THEN YOU FIND THE ONE. Usually late at night but its EARGASM. The next day you plug in/turn on and WTH!! Sounds like GARBAGE. Repeat and eventually buy ANOTHER latest greatest pedal. REPEAT......
I mean you can also tell they had a specific sort of drive sound in mine trying to weed through these, the ones they picked were very much low-color low-gain drives, which the klon CAN do but klon circuits tend to have their own sound.
The tumnus was a quick NAH. Take that all you wampler fanboys. The truth is they all sound the same accept for the tumnus which sounds like crap HAHAHAHA
A video of Lee and Pete simply messing around with bluesy overdrive pedals with Lee using his flamey 58 reissue Les Paul and Pete using a masterbuilt 54 Strat? Andertons you just delivered an absolute blinder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Um its nice to see two great guitar players noodling on expensive guitars
i think theyre all pretty good, but 13:35 stood out to me for some reason. something special about it
Ahh.. I see what you did there ;)
I like videos recorded with a room mic, gives a more realistic sound to the viewer. Good job!
+Lufie Alice Though they may seem more realistic, room mics are far worse than close mics for relating the sound of gear.
A mix of both always wins ; )
Do we need to say this again... "Captain Meets - Danish Pete". Your viewers have spoken... stand and deliver!
We need more Danish Pete in our lives! And possibly a few shots of various amazing shirts he owns hahaha
Batf1nk good god please
They've already announced this will be a thing multiple times in comment sections. There will be a "Captain meets Danish Pete" episode coming in the near future.
ChainsawChristmas but we want it now
Make half of it like an episode of "Cribs." I wanna see where he butters his muffin.
I often think Captain A is like a kid in a sweet shop with pedals. Andertons seem to stock a huge range of them and i am sure the salesman love visiting with their new products.
Great Video, I bought the DOD Looking Glass because of Pete and Mick, thank you guys....
Same
Actually live for these videos
Could watch this allllll day. Thanks for all the content!
Thank you so much for making this shootout video, and a special thanks for putting Part 2, the Full Story online. I find a simple Boss SD-1 works surprisingly well for this application as well.
Pete in 2017: I like Thorpy, I'm yet to own one though
Pete in 2018: *has a signature Thorpy pedal*
I would kill for an Andertons in the states, preferably in Austin. I’d go there every day and would support you guys over scummy guitar center any day.
Man, I could not agree with you more (except in Philly, hehe)!! Please start an Andertons USA chain, Capt!!
Or if that's a tad expensive, how about an Andertons USA tour after NAMM 2018??!?
This would be great! No one in any of my local shops seem as passionate about guitar as the Andertons guys
How far away is Riff City from you?
Different guitar, different amp, you get different favourites
Love this!!! I own the Dude and Looking Glass - adding Lightspeed to wish list!
Mario Alves got the lightspeed and the southland. Very nice pedals. Petes got that custom color lightspeed. #envy.
Wampler Tumnus in the meh pile? Wow! Such a great blues pedal!
I know! I love my Deluxe, it works great as a cleanish boost too. The full eq on the deluxe is really great.
I was super surprised to see the Nobels odr-1 in the meh pile!!
Please do this but with rabea and high gain pedals!
Seems like such an open door. I wonder why it hasn't happened yet.
Him and joss
no joss can stay behind the camera
I was wondering why the Moonshine didn't make the cut. In this video I see why haha. It's by far my favorite overdrive and I've been through a bunch!
Hi. Without being (wholly) self serving, a show on pairing overdrives with Vox AC amps would benefit many I feel. Vox AC style amps are reputed to be very hard to pair with overdrives, and many come unstuck here.

Even your friends at That Pedal Show I think neglected to mention whether using the top boost or not when they did the five modern ODs into three amps episode.
Thanks for all the hard work.
I love this video. You should do this with delays, phasers, fuzz etc.
Thank you for agreeing with my ears on the OCD, it's a great pedal for many purposes I'm sure but it's not a blues pedal to me. It has too much gain, and if you already have a decently high gain amp... It's a double no go.
Anyway we could get a list of all the pedals used? I liked a bunch of them that ended up in the meh pile.
Hey guys, can you do a video that includes the J Rockett Lenny? Would love to hear your thoughts on it or Pete and Cap playing it!
DOD looking glass is my favorite OD of all time
Please excuse me whilst I go order a Sweet Cream....
Great video.. literally bought a tone city sweet cream right afterwards..
What is the brown pedal with the cream knobs you are holding at 39.29 ?
Found it I think, Vemuram Jan Ray.
I miss some MXR pedals! Love the double double overdrive
would be fun to get a job at Andertons - coolest working hour spending :) good video......again
Imho the best are:
1st) Xotic BB (I got the Custom Shop edition with mids pot and its my favorite pedal of all time)
2nd) Mad Professor (very similar to BB but I like it, so...)
3rd) Tone city (not just for value/money, but under 100€/£/$ number one so far!)
...but you guys forget 4 gems: Timmy, Rockbox Classic Blues, Wampler Euphoria/Extacy and EWS Brute drive!
I have the same BB pedal and completely agree.
Such fun!
Dad? Haha
Patrick Carroll jk
still curious if it was picked without knowing what the pedal was, would it change the outcome. So much great stuff out today.
What pedal is used at 6:53? Thanks. It sounds great.
love the videos as most of us do... let's not discount the BD-2 so quickly though, eh? tried and tested TONE :-)
You could've made a list of Honoréable mentions out of the 5-7 that didn't make the final cut?
I PLAY de vemuram at home this One is delicious sweet and really amp like. In front of the Dude or any amp it’s magic.
You guys should do a review of the PRS 509! That would be awesome and I'm looking at buying one, but I'm curious just how versatile it is. Maybe what it sounds like for blues stuff and metal stuff as well. Love your videos guys!!!
Hey Captain nice vids as usual. What shoes are those ? I like em ..thanks .I'm sure they're UK / I'm in USA ..rock on man ..:)
another contender, the Bogner La Grange....amazing range and flexibility
What pedal did you take out at 37:15 ? thanks .
Could u do a video for the best delay pedals
The Sweet Cream is a clone of the Sweet Honey, that's why it sounds so good.
Anthony Ubriaco strangely the real sweet honey went into the meh pile
Probably because they want a pedal or two in the lower price range
I got a free Sweet Cream from Andertons last year in an offer, but relegated it to the Ebay pile. I'm a blueser and even tried it again recently but no, not for me at all. I just bought a Keeley D&M and that's the dogs' for me.
If they spent a little more time, a lot of those pedals wouldn't have landed in the no pile, but money was obviously a huge factor too.
Hello captain, that stratocaster is it the 50th anniversary custom shop 54 with abigail ybarra pickups?
Can anyone tell me what the green pedal is at 13:00? It ended up in the "meh pile", but I kinda like it :)
Answering my own question, haha...it's the Caroline Guitar Co Haymaker.
U guys should do a video of all the guitar pedals in the store just for fin
What was the red pedal at 5:40?
This should be Part 1.
Great video but i cant help but wonder if it had been a blind test whether the results would be the same, its hard not to be influenced by a favorite pedal...
You guys need to have Dan make a gig rig pedal board for your show!
Pete's reaction to the OCD is the same as mine many years ago. Legendary, but I wasn't really sure why!
Surprisingly there are 7-8 versions (some are unoficial but still) of ocd so...
there is a vid on u tube.
benbutterworth with you on that!
Just gives them a harmonic richness.
fantastic video. HUGE thumbs up. Very happy we'll hopefully see this with other pedal types, fuzz is an obvious one, and 'marshall type' is another.
I really liked the red one with the green knobs, it also looked like a tomato
RIP Lee's knees from swapping pedals out
Is there a full list of every pedal used?
What amp are all these through?
At what point did Overdrive Overload Fatigue set in ?
Can't help wondering how many would have past the first cut if humbuckers Les Paul as well as the Strat had been used at that stage?
A fun romp through the pedals whatever.
Wot? Too Marshall'y ? Like no one ever used Marshalls for blues.... ;^)
I say where's the mojo mojo!
seconded
Sir Monte Carlo
Actually I'd say these kind of pedals with their high sales volume make much more profit for companies and retailers than expensive boutique stuff.
But if you insist on a negative connotation you could still say it's not in here because it sells without extra promotion ; )
I see the problem with most pedals not making the mark, your using a Victory amp which is as pedal friendly as a Vox.
Man so much Chapman guitar promotion in this one. It's like every video is a Chapman guitar promotion ;))))
Well Lee is part owner I believe so its not surprising
got any modded keeley peds in? love those
I saw them run thru the Keeley Phat Mod early in the vid. It's a great pedal with 2 different gain settings. I understand it's Robert's original Blues Driver Mods in its own pedal. I think it rocks!
Name of the pedal at pedal at 7.00?
What was that Pedal that sounded a bit like bagpipes? Being Scottish I actually liked that!!!!
Richard Harrold Thanks for that. Ill go and check that out.
I watched that this morning and it was indeed hilarious.
I try to watch what Lee is doing with the pedals but inevitably just keep staring at his Explorer. Nice watch Cap!
im surprised that there was no tube screamer
This blindfolded would have been great
Just a suggestion but it might be easier to put those on a table next time so you dont have to hunch over the floor. \m/
Please book Aynsley Lister for a video session. He'll soon debunk the overdrive snobbery! 😁👍
Baz Jackson or Dan Patlansky.
JJ Johnson Great Tone Hound! Superb player!
Not that there's any real system to this, but a single reference pedal would have made it easier. But how do you choose a reference pedal when it's all subjective?
Do this with Distortion (Rabea or Joss) and fuzz (Rabea)!
Is the Soul Food a bad pedal? I was thinking on getting one haha

Meh on the Boss?
Pete should have been isolated from seeing which pedal he was playing. Lose those preconceptions! :P
Ah, right. ;) ;)
Come on kids give the eh soul food it's time of day 😉
Why wasnt Pete blindfolded or at least a turned around so he couldnt see the pedals? I think if you're able to see the pedals then you're obviously going to pick the ones you like most.
FUZZ FUZZ FUZZ!!!! :D

Damnit! I think I could be talked into a black Dude, now.
About 8 pints should do it...
OCD in the "meh" pile.... Too Marshall-ly? Are you serious, man? :)
First
Flash93933 lucky you!
Rodney Salas ikr I was just looking at my subbox and saw this was posted 19 seconds ago
Shouldn’t Pete be playing more…you know…laid back blues?
Бестолковый обзор...
What a wasted video. Just a lot of screwing around with no conclusion.
Not even 3 seconds on the Tumnus? For real?
realwight guess not! I use mine as a boosty type drive, and it's amazing stacked with another drive.
Such a great pedal! I have several in the "good" pile. Tumnus is my favorite! That and TC Electronic delay are always on my board!
