      Love the tune too. I was big on the A-Team and Knight Rider but I just love the intro of Airwolf.
      The car kind of reminds the all-conquering concept of the Airwolf so hence the choice of song and a few scenes.

    You say the cost has been €6655 over two years but can you briefly summarise what those costs were? I'm thinking about getting one however would like to know how much of this was real maintenance and how much was upgrades/improvements that were not absolutely necessary if money was not available..

    • @JJsAutomotive
      @JJsAutomotive  6 років тому +5

      Everything done on mine is pure maintenance + small improvements in removing unnecessary factory gubbins (for example rear lambdas & some other pointless hardware).
      Very-very general overlook:
      225 918km - oils-fluids-filters, new 710P by-passes
      229 380km - timing chain tensioners, front pads, braided brake lines (HEL), oil+filters, rear differential oil etc. (this was the biggest bill so far)
      235 685km - front lambdas, water circulation pump, oil+filters etc.
      238 280km - new xenon bulbs (Philips)
      238 885km - turbo solenoid + spark plugs
      1st year - 19 106km, around 4000€ (left out some odd jobs, few hundred here and there)
      244 245km - oils+filters
      245 310km - new battery (Varta)
      248 484km - new intercooler hoses (Wagner) + intercoolers were "patched"
      252 372km - oils+filters
      2nd year - 16 705km, 2700€ (again, did not write down everything)
      Did not write out work done like software adjustments (engine/gearbox run stock maps), tinting the windows, wheel alignments etc. but those are included in the sum too. Bought other wheels for summer and winter but this is also not included in the expenses. Some odds and ends like occasional new set of windshield wipers is also not included.

      If I do not manage to sell this car by 21.08.2018 then it will be the 3rd year of ownership:
      21.08.2016 - 1. year: maintenance costs - 3980,16€ - 19 106km, ~0,21€/km - 240 445km
      21.08.2017 - 2. year: maintenance costs - 2674,84€ (+ rims - 1211€) - 16 705km, ~0,16€/km - 257 150km
      For the 3rd year I am about 1000€ in already.
      Note: this is all running costs - maintenance to keep the car as spick-and-span stock daily driver as reasonably possible. No performance related changes have been made (e.g. braided brake lines are hardly "tuning", rather something that all the high performance cars from the factory should have & other bits-and-bobs like that).

      Can you pls. say something about your fuel consumption? Is it possible to keep it under 20l on short range driving (daily normal driving)? I ask because I'm thinking about buying a RS6 2002-2004. Thank you!

    • @JJsAutomotive
      @JJsAutomotive  6 років тому +2

      First of all, it is kind of odd to even be to concerned about "fuel economy" when one is buying a biturbo V8 automatic for city commuting. It is a question of mindset and being worried about visiting the petrol station too often should not be a concern at all or if at all then one of the last worries.
      But to the point - fuel consumption is hard to tell. Depends too much of the traffic and the length of the route with this car. If there is much stopping and starting or just really short drives without car warming up then it is up to 25l/100km. As you saw from the other video it needs to have some space to run to get the consumption down. Few liters here and there should not be a problem for the owner of this car so 20l/100kms can be taken as baseline.
      Dreaming of any less is... well... mostly dreaming.

    I'm looking to buy a C5 RS6 or a B7 S4. Any input or opinions on which you think is the "better" car.

    • @JJsAutomotive
      @JJsAutomotive  7 років тому +5

      Well, odd you asked. Before buying the C5 RS6 there was a B7 S4 Avant with a manual box for sale near to me. So I kind of had the same question in my mind 2 years ago to this exact date. Put your reading hat and glasses on because I am going to go in it. Bear in mind that the following is heavily influenced by my personal opinion.
      As far as I am concerned there is no point to buy half-assed versions of sport models of any company. I found it out after I owned my first STI after owning my first WRX. There is no point. You will stay wanting the „real deal“ as long as you have the „half-asser“. That is the principle I run by not only when buying the cars but overall in life.
      Now, as far as what goes to C5 RS6 vs. B7 A4.
      For me the B-chassis models do not compete with the C-chassis models. Plain and simple. My father had just bought a B7 A4 2.0TDI 2 months before my purchase of the RS6 so I already had a little taste of the B-chassis in my mouth. I am 6’7’’ and it is small and uncomfortable for me + no room for passengers if people in the front want to enjoy themselves (not that the passenger part played any role anyway). Also just in my mind but B-chassis interior finish is sub par compared to the C-chassis cars. I am not going to go too in depth with C5 vs. B7 since these are actually different generations but even with C5 vs. B7 it just has more of a quality feeling when sitting in (does not matter that C5 is from basically „stone age“).
      I usually do not care about all the other factors besides the mechanics but the size definitely was a factor here. But as I already said the main point was that either I am going to have a middle of the line average sporty model or the halo car. That is what came down to.
      If we will not going to go down to nitty-gritty then these cars both run the same (similar) V8 engine. One can have the S4 with a manual (a strong point) and the RS6 does come only as an auto. But one car has a BiT powerplant which is capable for sub-5 second 0-100km/h pulls and the other one runs N/A and if you are good on the shifts then sub-6 second times. One car can top 300km/h easily when fiddled (my car was supposed to be de-restriced but as I found out something has been lost in translation) and the other one runs only with faster diesels these days. 331kw vs. 253kw and so on and so on.
      Everything is more grand on the RS6 ( for example running the same front calipers as 1st gen Gallardo & other monster VAG group cars) and that is what gravitated me towards it.
      Plus, C6 RS6 has been my dream car since it was launched. Sadly, my bankroll was not enough at that point and is still not enough these days. I had to compromise to by getting the older model but still it is the grandfather of all the modern fast family (super)cars. I have always wanted a RS6 and I got one. I have never wanted for a S4. Plain and simple.
      Do not get me wrong - the S-cars are plenty of fun and very capable vehicles but going the half way does just not cut it for me. I mostly follow my heart when it comes down to decisions like these. Of course I did a financial analysis of the situation before purchasing the vehicle too and found out what are the main probable expenses in the future with getting this kind of car. With RS6 you will get more of everything and that also comes down to the size of the bills when maintaining the vehicle.
      But as far as I am concerned it has been worth every eaten macaroni and every penny.

      JJ's Automotive thank you so much for an in-depth answer. That was a lot more than I expected. As far as room goes I'm only 5"7 aka tiny guy. The only reason I say s4 and not rs4 is because I want an auto instead of manual (rs6 has that). Plus a b7 rs4 costs more than a c5 rs6 in my country.

    • @JJsAutomotive
      @JJsAutomotive  7 років тому +1

      Well, C5 RS6s start from 10k€ and B7 RS4s from 17k€ in Germany. Of course those cars are all 200-250 000km cars. One has to drop still 20+ for a low mileage 10+ year old RS car. RS2s, which are 20+ years old, start from 28k€... :D
      C5 RS6 is the "cheapest" RS car one can get atm.

    • @kdscustoms6344
      @kdscustoms6344 7 років тому +1

      JJ's Automotive $17k for a rs6 with 160k on it and $21k for a rs4 with 200k+ here in New Zealand

    • @JJsAutomotive
      @JJsAutomotive  7 років тому +1

      If you have a chance then try them both out. RS4 with its manual box sounds really interesting to me but I have never driven one. It has crossed my mind to get one but I am kind of "stuck" with my current car (read: really hard to sell for a respectable price). What I am wishing for besides a new experience is something smaller with more driver involvement. RS4 could deliver that (although what I am thinking of getting at the moment is something like an STI etc.) but I am more keen on getting a race car atm.
      Btw. at least here the B8 S4s are at the same price point (starting from 15k€) with the C5s and B7s. That V6T is easily tunable to produce quite nice numbers. One of my favourite Chris Harris pieces ever:
      ua-cam.com/video/2KfMY96v_Gc/v-deo.html
      Made me actually fancy one...
      Never had such a new car. My first car was a '08 Impreza and the rest of them have been 10+ years old. That is kind of an idea.

      Plus, it was gray with black wheels and darkest possible tints in the rear so the paint scheme was kind of similar.
