  • The ultimate commuter bike, Honda NC750X 2015 model, tested and reviewed in Gran Canaria during the summer of 2018. Does this motorcycle even have any competition, or is it unique in a segment of its own? We're not sure, but we tested it anyway!

      I'm a club rider in the UK and we regularly do trips around the country and Europe, the bike rides well on the country roads and takes the bumps really well. The Stock tyres are not great which is why I changed them for Michelin Road 5s and they change the whole handling and braking of the bike, a totally different machine now. I have ridden many bikes before the NC like the Yamaha FZ08 and I found the Yamaha too fast and unpractical. The Honda NC is also fantastic in the town areas and easy on the wallet, you can have fun on the Honda NC but you have to use all the revs available and the torque is excellent. It's practical and does everything I need.

      I to love my NC750X. I Think it handles very well but I took a note about the tires you have on. You mean that you really noticed an improved handling just by changing to those tires? Then I know what tires to get next :-) thx.

    • @OperationFoxley19441

      The stock tyres were Dunlop trails, when leaning into corners you feel like you are on a ledge and that the rear will give way, hard braking caused the ABS to activate but due to the lack of grip from the tyres the rear wheel still locked up. In wet weather the bike did not feel planted and did not give me any confidence. When I changed the tyres to the Michelins I noticed that they encouraged me to lean the bike, when I took the bike in to the countryside I noticed that my braking distance was shorter and the ABS did not activate due the to high grip. The bike just feels better under me and sticks like glue to the road when touring which is important as you are in the saddle for long periods. The rear wheel also does not lock with the abs anymore. The wet weather performance is great too.I hope this helps.

    I have a Honda NC750X DCT. As Honda states, it's a commuter bike, and as a commuter bike they do not come better. I suspect, like me, a lot of NC owners will actually have a second bike, for the days when they want that something extra. But as this is so cheap to run it means your second bike doesn't rack up miles, and you don't have to constantly justify the pathetic fuel economy of your hyper-sports to get to work and back.

      The 'Busa is my fourth one, so the leap was in getting used to the lack of power, which believe it or not was just as underwhelming as the first 'Busa I rode was overwhelming. Just have to remember on the weekend not to crack the throttle open too wide..oh, and to remember I need to change gear..then again as it does a ton in first I guess I could get away with not bothering lol

    • @MotorcycleTourists
      @MotorcycleTourists  6 років тому

      Admittedly, I didn't think of it as an issue. It's been really warm there every time we've tested it (for the past three years). Any wind felt was welcomed like water to a tourist lost in the Australian outback. But since it doesn't have a whole lot of fairing, expect your knees to be exposed.

      Lol nice couple. I want to start my motorcycling with CB500X but then I found NC and I'm torn between those too, I'm a woman but not so short 5'7 - 174 cm tall so should I go with cb500x as it's a little lighter and seat is bit lower but since NC has a tank in the seat the weight is a bit lower so I'm guessing you don't feel that weight difference? And I like this compartment... lol

    • @AfricaTwin-Stuff
      @AfricaTwin-Stuff 5 років тому +3

      Marika - it comes down to personal choice. Both are excellent bikes. The CB is cheaper to buy and lighter in weight but the NC has a nicer feeling engine, and a glove box.

    • @MotorcycleTourists
      @MotorcycleTourists  5 років тому

      The 750 is a bigger bike, sure, but if you're 174, you're 4 cm shorter than me, and probably have longer legs because mine are super short. Like a cartoon. Really long torso and tiny little legs underneath me. So you should be fine, either way. That said, I agree with the previous comment from Honda Stuff, it really comes down to personal preference. Best is to try both of them and see which fits you better. Both are really practical in their own ways. The new CB500X 2019 model has addressed a lot of the shortcomings that the previous models had, which you can see in my review of the CB500X (I'm looking a lot forward to reviewing that one). Maybe it you told a bit more of what kind of driving you plan on doing? Mostly city traffic, highways, country roads? Long trips, day or weekend trips? Just to the shop and back, or halfway across the world?

    Good review. I have an NC750X and love it. I think it is more fun than you say. OK, not a sports bike but definitely more than a 'commuter', although of course it does that job well too. You compared it to a practical mini van; but I think its more of a sports wagon - practical on the one hand but also has a little extra grunt when you want it. Definitely an under rated bike. cheers

    I own the NC750X and I love it. Nippy, and I ride mine way faster than some in the twisties without hanging on for dear life. Very maneuverable. I sing in my helmet riding this bike and I feel it is way more exciting than you guys proclaim it is. Braking the speed limit is way too easy on one of these. The maintenance is a doddle and cheap, no arsing around under the bike with special tools, or stripping off a load of fairings just to remove the oil filter, everything is accessible. You can full service on this bike wearing a suit. Front and rear break pad change 40 min. With some customizations, which are widely available, you can make an extremely good bike a fantastic machine. If the fuel tank position bothers you, get a set of panniers for when you go on long trips. Besides who travels with a load of crap on the back seat?. You will struggle to find a more reliable and good looking machine. It just keeps going. Best purchase I ever made.

  • @nautilusmd
    @nautilusmd 5 років тому +2

    You can not have it all! Just few people go on very long trips and gas tank for most is in a very good place. Besides for most long trip riders side boxes would be enough! My understanding is that this bike is best for travelers who tour on good roads and some light off roads which is best for begginers who want to understand what type of riding they want in the future. And finally some people just like traveling around seeing places than rather raving and overtaking sports cars! I think this bike is good quiet not tempered type of adventures!

I was thinking of buying this motorcycle for my wife as a present. She is now still learning and i thought this would be a good present if she gets her licence. Do you think it's a good bike to start with ? Only problem is, i'm starting to like it myself lol.

    • @MotorcycleTourists
      @MotorcycleTourists  5 років тому

      Hello, Stephan! Sorry for the late reply :-) Yeah, I think it's a good beginner bike. It's very well behaved and doesn't set your pants on fire. It's very easy to drive, very practical and gives fantastic fuel economy. What's not to like? You probably won't take it across a potato field, or any kind of serious off-roading or suchlike. But if that's not on your list anyway, it's a great bike! Next to a Yamaha Tracer 700, BMW F750GS, or a Versys 650, I think it provides good value for the money. The BMW F750GS might be a good option to look into as well, but more expensive. My girlfriend has a Tracer 700 and it's great to drive, too. The BMW has the best suspension in the class, by a big margin and is much better for gravel and dirt roads and light off-roading, the Tracer is quite playful and likes to drive maybe a little faster than you should. The Versys has really, really good rider ergonomics, but the Honda is definitely the most practical of them all. It's such a tough call because there are so many great bikes out there. But if you guys like it, that's the most important factor of them all :-)

      (English after) Hej, Hasse! Jag absolut älskar min Kia Sportage! Den är bekväm, relativt lyxig och lättkörd, precis som NC750X. Inget fel på det alls, om det är det man är ute efter. Bara fantastiskt om man hittat rätt. Alla är vi ju olika, och ingen hoj är perfekt. En kort hjulbas gör en motorcykel smidig men mindre stadig på motorväg och vice versa. Mjuk fjädring är bra för offroad men sämre för asfalt och likaså bakvänt med stum fjädring. Det går liksom inte att få allt. Gäller bara att hitta den hoj vars kompromisser man inte störs av, och vars styrkor man kan uppskatta. Vi gör vårt bästa för att belysa vilka kompromisser som har valts av tillverkaren och vart fokuset varit på en motorcykel, så de som kanske funderar på att köpa en sådan kan göra ett mer informerat val, och bedöma själva om kompromisserna/styrkorna på en enskild hoj passar just deras körstil och önskemål. Sen har vi ju lite personliga preferenser och åsikter också :-) Men vi försöker i regel att markera om det är frågan om personlig åsikt eller en hyfsat objektiv bedömning. Personligen så tyckte jag att NC750X var lite som en mini-van :-) Farsan gillade den starkt, mer än mig. Så olika vi kan vara :-)
      Hey, Hasse! I absolutely love my Kia Sportage! It's comfortable, relatively luxurious och easy to drive, just like the NC750X. Nothing wrong with that, if that's what you're after. Only great if you find the right one for you. We're all different, and no bike is perfect. A short wheel base makes for an agile bike, but less stable at higher speeds and vice versa. Soft suspension is great for offroad, but worse for asphalt, and again the opposite for stiff suspension. You can't have it all. It's about finding the bike whose compromises don't bother you, and whose strengths you can appreciate. We do our best to shed light on the compromises made by the manufacturer and the focus they've had with a motorcycle, so those who consider buying one can make more of an informed decision, and judge for themselves if the compromises/strengths of a particular bike fits their driving style and preferences. Then, of course, we have our personal preferences and opinions as well :-) But we do try to mark out when it's question of a personal opinion or a fairly objective assessment. Personally, I thought the NC750X was a bit like a mini-van :-) Dad liked it a lot though, more so than me. How different we can be :-)

A lot of work goes into it, so I do appreciate it :-) For this video, I used a Panasonic GH5S, with the native 12-35mm f/2.8 lens and a B+W variable ND filter for video, with a Røde VideoMic Pro+ for the audio, along with three GoPro Hero 6 Blacks and a Zoom H1 for riding footage and audio. Colours are mostly about waiting around for the best light, having proper exposure and then spending a lot of hours in post production fixing not having had either, along with editing and colour grading the footage (I use Final Cut Pro and Colour Finale for editing and colour grading) :-)

    You two are very funny. I am currently working on getting my motorcycle license in Québec, Canada. I will turn 62 this October. I am 188cm and 113 kilos. I will probably end up deciding between the cb500x and the nc750x. First and foremost, I must be comfortable and safe. I have to feel that I can handle it without any problems at low speed in parking lots or in the streets of the city and I have to feel safe at highway speed (100 km/h). If I had to make a choice right now, it would be the nc750x. Because this will be my first bike, I do not thing that I will have a problem with "short shifting". I will get used to it. The standard version of the nc750x is also 26 kg heavier than the cb500x. I see this as a plus for the highway and your review confirmed that. The low torque and low center of gravity should make this bike usable in the city. Your review was very helpful and looks like you are having lots of fun doing the videos. I am looking forward to watch the others.

And congratulations on deciding to join the motorcyclist community :-) Getting a motorcycle has been one of the best things I’ve done in my life. And you’re right, we do have a lot of fun making the videos ;-) The NC750X is a great bike and a good choice for a first bike. It handles highways just fine (better than the CB500X). The only other bike I could think of with a similar character would be the BMW F700GS which is also a great first bike, runs on low rpms and doesn’t set your pants on fire. Either way you can’t go wrong :-)

      Hey, Timothy! You make a valid point! I think it could have been solved more cleverly, like putting the fuel cap on the side like the older BMW GS models, but I guess Honda had its reasons. And on the grand scale of things, if that’s the (pretty much) only shortcoming we can find on the bike... Well,
      I guess it’s a good bike! :-)

    Nice review, but how come every motorcycle content maker with 2 bit video editing software, thinks they are Stanley Kubrick?
    I mean, Fortnine does great reviews, but all the videos are so focused on flash, and dazzle. Its just not necessary, in this context.

    • @MotorcycleTourists
      @MotorcycleTourists  5 років тому +1

      Hello, Mike! I can only guess, but I think that Stanley Kubrick didn’t wake up one day and make the Shining, or Clockwork Orange. I think the process was long, and that before his masterpieces were a long string of hobby projects, documentaries and a career as a photographer. A full 22 years from his first camera at the age of 13, until his first debut, and another 10 years still, before his (arguably) first masterpiece. That’s 33 years of honing his craft. Making these videos is a craft, and it’s a thrilling and wonderful journey to discover it, and gradually, video by video progress from a complete novice with no mastery of it, and no understanding of what works and what doesn’t, to wherever your talent (or lack thereof) will take you. And (I think) what you are seeing, are inspired, passionate artists making that journey (with varying success), honing their craft with that first camera, like Stanley Kubrick held in his hand at age 13. Eager but clueless, and full of unknown potential. And I think most content creators here have that spark, that same desire that drove Stanley Kubrick to make that first movie. Not his genius, but the same desire. We experiment, we explore the art and the craft, and perhaps one day far from now, I might even get good at it. Given enough practice and experimentation :-) I don’t speak for everyone, of course, but that’s my theory. What do you think?

      Cheers! Glad you liked it! I don't know how many people watch the bloopers at the end, but some of our videos do have them :-)

    No, it is not a car engine cut in half. Get it right, guys.

      Technically it is not exact ly a car engine cut in half but it can definitely be defined as such. It definitely behaves like à car engine regarding the power curve, the rpm, the torque, the power délivré.

    Thanks for the review. I would loke to see more riding footage, and it would be more interesting if you would associate the review points with riding footage.
    I am about to buy my first bike and I am seriously considering a NC 750x (post 2016). Do you think it is an appropriate choice or do you suggest a better option for a similar price?

      Hey, Nuno! That’s really good feedback, thank you! It depends a lot on where you will take your bike. If you’re going to go on long trips across continents, just to and from work with the occasional excursion, on gravel and dirt roads, and so on. The NC750X is a really good bike. It’s not really an adventure bike, though, and I think personally, that the suspension makes it a bit restrictive in terms of where I would be able to take it with confidence (and relative comfort). No bike is perfect. Every bike is a collection of (usually) well thought through compromises. So it really depends on you. It could be perfect for you, or totally wrong, depending on what you plan on doing with it.
