  • My honest first riding impressions of Honda NC750X model 2017. From my point of view it has been little undervalued motorcycle. Some say it is too weak and slow and so I wanted to find out.
    This is not an in-depth review as some other my videos, but only first riding impressions. Hopefully I will be honored to review this motorcycle more in-depth.
    This is definitely an awesome bike for anyone who prefer reliability, small fuel consumption and fluent style of riding. The consumption is somewhere around 3.5L / 100 km to 4.5L / 100 km when ridint 140 km/h+ on a highway. This is good. But I have to say these 55 horsepower wasn't too bad, especially I was suprised on the highway. Watch my video for more information.

    I appreciate my friend Ondrej Vymetalik who rents motorcycles here in Gran Canaria www.canaryride.com and helps me to do my video reviews. Thank you!

    I own an NC750X DCT. I ride it as economically as I can. My journey to work is 32 miles, mostly motorway and dual carriageway. I use the motorway when it is quiet in the early hours and as such it is not an issue to stroll along at 50mph. The consequence of this is that the machine regularly returns over 90 (not a typo) miles per gallon. If economy is your main driver, then I do not know of a better bike than this.

      UPDATE: I now commute 55 miles each way, and the bike is now regularly returning 99.9mpg Phenomenal. Longest I have ever owned a bike for, and no way am I getting rid of it.

    To say that the nc 750x is for people that doesn’t want to have an adrenaline rush when they ride is an amazing comment . I have had 7 motorcycles of all sorts before i bought my nc 750 and they have all provided a unique experience to motorcycling for me. This is certainly true for the nc as well. I absolutely love the bike and I get thrilled every time I ride it. It’s plenty quick and agile. The low gas mileage is just a bonus and has never been a priority for me on a bike. I think this bike is put down by people that stubbornly thinks that fun equals power. Well, nothing could be more wrong. Just sayin...

      I like a relaxing experience. My Yamaha XT 600 E has only 44 HP, which IMO is enough. You can take it easy with it, but also more dynamic. So if I like the seating position of the NC, I will take it (most likely the S, because the Yam is a bit too tall for me) for a test ride.

    I have my Honda NC750X since April 2017 bought it brand new. And yes I am a beginner rider again (I had a 10 year period of not riding sucks I cnow). I will agree on the adrenaline part but you still you can have a lot of fun on this bike. In Estonia we don't have highways so it is a ideal bike for commuting and gravel roads (you can do offroad as well with proper set of tires). And my God how many mistakes this bike will forgive you and it is a good bike for a beginner but I think a seasoned biker can have loads more fun on it on a nice sunny day and a curvy road as in your video is exactly what the toctor orderd. And you can do 1000+ kilometers in one day and your ass will still not be sore :). My fuel consumption is around 3.5-3.8/100km and it is awesome.
    Sorry for my bad English.

    I got miy NC750 (manual) two months ago. I have had various bikes in my 37 years of riding (including the amazing CBR 1100 Blackbird).
    The NC has been criticised for being bland, or boring. I have no idea what people are talkig about. Sure, it is not a 12000 rpm sport bike, but mine gets up and goes quite healthily. I love it.

    I would love to try one. Motorcycles that have to rev high to get to their sweet spots are not practical. The approach of a low revving and torquey engine has kept Harley-Davidson in business for115 years.

    I have the 2016 NC700xDCT and have rode over 4000 miles in 3 months... mixed commuting and touring... my last bike was a 2007 FZ1... Ive owned 15 motorcycles in the last 35 years and Im sorry to say this is my favorite that Ive ever owned. low cost to own and operate... reliability in spades... decent performance... storage space galore... I cant find a single fault with this bike for what "I" use it for...which is daily duty. If go fast was a priority I would have stayed on the FZ1... but reality is there is to much traffic here and I would have to ride 2 hours to get somewhere to use 130hp... but the NC with automatic is twist-n-go... everywhere...any time... for pennies. Honda has listened to a market that asked for a less hyper usable bike...NO OTHER manufacturer has done this.. sure there are other bikes in the segment...I rode them all...versys..strom...ktm...tiger...gs...I even rode a 650 Bergman... for my use this bike checked every box. NO it wont win races... but lets see who can go furthest on $3. And oil changes at 8000 miles??? Its unheard of untill Honda took up the challenge...And I bet we see others try there own versions...which I welcome whole heartedly because that means more choices...and that benefits the motorcycle community as a whole.

      Didn't you like the V Strom 2018 enough? I am stuck between the two.. Brakes, handling and suspension comfort comparison?

    • @skidchowder2433
      @skidchowder2433 5 років тому +3

      @@pg88corfu ..The Strom is a great bike...as is the versys...as are a ton of other bikes... I just found the NC to be the one that worked for my purposes the best. As of yesterday Ive logged over 6k miles and everyone of them Ive had a smile on my face. One of the biggest factors in my decision was the cost to purchase... Because of the automatic trans and car engine stigma... I purchased this for 50% of its new price... With the savings I added all the farkle I wanted and have enough $ left over to do a round the country loop and still have change in my pocket. Now...all that said... If a manufacturer were to build a 1000cc version with a less budget front end and upgraded brakes with shaft drive and the DCT...I will be first in line...but they must include the FRUNK!...so close with the vfr1200x-dct... But I really dont need the 10000 rpm stuff...more touque down low really works better in the real world...and who is really gonna take a commute bike to a racetrack?...

    I had the original 700. Absolutely loved it. That trunk accomodated my full face helmet and gloves - not having to walk into restaurants or banks carrying those with you is worth the price of the bike alone! Very frugal, in fact I would forget to fill it sometimes and have run out of petrol on one occasion. I loved the sound from the engine and frankly I would never ride over 150 so more than enough power for me.

  • @Herzankerkreuz67
    @Herzankerkreuz67 6 років тому +36

    I have a NC700S that I bought new in August 2013 and have by now 77000 km on the clock. For me this bike is the most practical and economic and easy to maintain bike ever. Also I don't think it is slow nor impossible to have fun on. Of course it isn't comparable to the Z1000 that I had for about a year .... You could call it an affair I guess but I did return to my sweetheart again and was lucky enough to be forgiven without any sputtering or unwillingness after having neglected my NC for a while....🏍❤
    The bike does about 185 km/h for those who want to know although I once had it even up to 195 just before the rev limiter. Also I am amazed at how many claim to hit the rev limiter often , well during those 77000 km I have hit the rev limiter maybe three times one of which was on purpose to see what it actually feels like, so not really an issue I guess. I have bought a few months ago a NC750S that was offered to me by my local Honda dealer, a 2014 with only 4000 km. The one important change I have made on the 750 is to change from the 43 rear sprocket to a 46 since to me the gear ratio is otherwise to long since it was changed by Honda when the 700 was discontinued.
    Best aftermarket exhaust slip-on is for me the GPR deeptone.
    I am aware that this is just my personal opinion but I do love those NC bikes. The reason why I bought the second one was foremost to have time to do all maintenance by myself and still have a bike to ride when things take more time.
    Safe rides and travels 🏍👍

      Hi Andree, thank you so much for your comment and a great adition to this review. It will definitely help to future owners of this bike.
      I am thinking about the rev limiter thing and it is problably true. I guess it was happening me just because it was first ride and I wanted to really explore the engine potential. When owning it would be probably very rare.
      I asolutely agree with the advantages of the bike. It seems we are buying one now in Gran Canaria, so I will be able to record very in-depth review and also report long-term reliability. Let me please know if there is anything else worth mentioning in the in-depth review. Many thanks.

      JF Motorcycles
      Hi there and thanks for the reply
      Well I kind of mentioned it already in a general sense about the easy service and maintenance but I particular like that the valve adjustments of this motor is very easy and doesn't involve expensive chims and the removal of the cams etc as on many other bikes like the Versys 650 which I also had for about a year but never made me feel as comfortable as the NC series.
      I am not a trained mechanic but with some prior experience and the workshop manual one can definitely avoid the high costs and uncertainties of leaving the bike in the hands of a dealership which in my experience often turns out to be a disappointment.
      My fellow riders have some sad stories to tell about disastrous dealership experience.
      My bike has entirely been serviced by me and runs like day one.
      I have however replaced the following: front and rear wheel bearings at 50200 km,front fork seals at 58tkm, twice the battery,
      Yearly brake fluid,and numerous oil , oil filter and air filter changes and I am now on my second chain and sprocket set. I do live in Central America and road and dust conditions are different from Europe. My favorite tires by far are the Micheline Pilot Road 4, very safe rain or shine 😊
      Also by now on second brake pads on rear and third on front. Front and rear disks still within specs.
      Replaced clutch cable as well and coolant every year.
      At 65000 finally got the center stand and radiator guard
      Also have the SW motech crash bars mounted since the beginning and a 25 liter Touratech aluminum top box. Expensive but very good product.
      Hope that helps 👍🏍
      Safe rides

    I’ve owned this motorcycle for nearly 2 years now, I have the DCT version and I’m at 30,000 kms. The bike is amazing, reliable, ergonomic and very practical.
    I’ve added several features to make it suitable for long distance riding, it’s good for riding two up as long as you’re not looking to be the fastest from the traffic lights.
    The motorcycle is fully capable of riding 140 km/h long distance highways all day, with refueling every 2 hours or so due to low capacity of its fuel tank.
    A great motorcycle for those who buy it for what it is.

    Thank you so much for this video, so far one of best i saw.
    I'm 41 year young, 168cm short and 30 inch inseam and I've never owned a bike before 🤦‍♂️ what a mistake.
    I'm looking seriously to buy the NC750X or the NC750S or the CB500X.
    I would like a tall bike for the riding comfort and to avoid having back pain later on, that is why i'm looking at the NC750X and the CB500X.
    The NC750S was my school bike, it was heavily modified (lowered by around 5cm, lower low rev, low speed..., survived a crash with a truck at low speed), so it's not close as a reference and felt unstable in cornering at high speed 70kmh . but I've liked the 68Nm torq. Even with all the modifications it felt so hugely powerful for a beginner like me and so incredible fast 😍 I've reached 100 kmh 😊, this was astonishing for me.
    I also tried the CB500F at school, it felt a bit low in torq compared to NC750 but still so much powerful for me. only problem is the short gears, I've spend my time shifting down and up trying to follow the NC750s, ok also i'm beginner rider.
    Please any one here under 170cm tall has owned this NC750X ? do you struggle to ride it? is it dangerous at stop start at traffic?
    In the web I saw that if you are shorter than 170cm you should not ride the NC750X, because it is too tall and difficult to stop and start.😢
    Sorry for for my English and thank-you a lot for your comments. it will help me.

It’s only my 2nd bike so I don’t much to compare to, but it’s powerful enough for me, especially in the city. I would like a little power on the highway though, from 120 onwards... But the some of it’s positives makes up for the sum of it’s negative (which isn’t that many anyway).

    I have a 2016 750xd and love it, especially the dct. Mine consumes 3.0L per 100km, but I like to keep it in 'D' and accellerate slow. I like the feel of the engine pulses at low rpm under slow accelleration. I am typically not in a hurry and take it easy....used to have a 1986 gsxr1100 25 years ago and am happy I survived, that itch was scratched. Only change I made that for me (192 cm with long legs) the pegs were too high, lowered then with knight design aftermarket pegs. I agree with the way the bike goes around corners, this bike requires no input through the handlebars, you can do all steering by just shifting your weight. Makes you feel you can ride hands free. Did more than 1000km in the Black forest so far this year, just heaven on tbis bike...

    I've had a few different bikes over the years, and when you get the NC into the tight windy roads where hp is irrelevant, it's the best handling bike I've ridden. I can scrape the pegs, something I wouldn't try on other bikes with that much ground clearance

    This bhp issue is after 47yrs of riding, is now ridiculous 200bhp ducatis with electric everything to stopyou crashing. Just buy a bike with hp you can manage. Being an old codger i swapped my sports bike 150hp for a yamaha bulldog, 65hp, air cooled, shaft drive. Low power you may think, however the torque is monstrous in any gear, revs out at 7500 . It pulls like a train. It will cruise at 90mph and does 65mpg. I like to ride it so much just riding that v twin thumping torque curve. Not revving hell out of machine but pull in every gear in every situation. I think thats why owners love this bike here. My bulldog only having 65hp still does 0-60 in 4.75 seconds one and a half seconds slower than my sportsbike, no thrashing, no revving it to 12k just lovely tractable power. I have found this bike to give me the rush still, not as fast as sportsbike but far more satisfying and far from slow.

    • @JFMotorcycles
      @JFMotorcycles  6 років тому +1

      Hi Mauro. Truth is that the front break is probably the most important downside on this bike. I mean, it does not have much disadvantages, but the break I would probably try to upgrade if I am having this bike and go often with a passenger. Safety first! :)
      It seems there are more discussions online about upgrading it and probably decent range of aftermarket products to make it. I invest the same way to my Triumph Scrambler 2015 as the single disc 2piston Nissin did not give me enough confidence. Let me know if you buy the bike, how satisfied you are.

    I have a NC750X (MT) from 2018 and I can say this motorbike is anything but boring. I am 164cm sitting on its default 83cm of seat height. My commute includes busy roads / slow traffic as well as highways, tunnels (busy or not). I feel safe when riding it (rain included). It’s sure not a superbiker, but it’s fast enough for me / or for what I need. I’ve pushed it to 170km/h already (hard to do more, as I’m in a windy country) and I don’t have a single part of “unused rubber” on my tires... so you can imagine those leaning angles 👌🏼 I am definitely happy with it and I can tell you I am not yet doing wheelies, because I still need to put some crash bars on it 😂😎

    I don't use much of the power on the str so I have gone for an NC. Much more practical and will encourage me to use it more.
    I don't care about 100+ bhp, brembos, etc etc. Who needs that for road use at 30-50-70 mph.

    Please ... you who have tried this NC750X and the Yamaha Tracer, do you think they are directly competent? And which do you think is better? If you had to limit it to A2, what do you think would go better? Thank you!

    • @JFMotorcycles
      @JFMotorcycles  6 років тому +2

      Hi Ivan, sorry it took me a few days to answer. If the price is similar I would take very probably Tracer just because this engine is the same smooth and easy to use, but it is significantly faster. It can happen that you would like to sell Honda and upgrade for something stronger very soon in my opinion.
      Honda has a few perks: You feel like a on a little bit larger (and heavier) bike. It is good for someone like me with 193 cm height. Plus you can store a lot of things in the false fuel tank. That's awesome.
      Both bikes are extremely reliable. Talking about extremes, maybe Honda will be even more capable to run 1 mil. kilometers or something. Both bikes has very low consumption of tyres and fuel, but again Honda even slightly less.
      Yamaha is more fun to ride, just because of the stronger engine. I hope it helps.

      Great bike, enough power, efficient, smooth..
      Light enough for gravel roads and simple off-roading, but big enough to tour across countries.
      This bike still puts a smile on my face.

    I have the 2015 MC750s. It only has 12k miles on the clock and have already had to spend another £1000 replacing the clutch basket and severely rusting forks. The clutch baskets WILL eventually go depending on the amount of clutch work you do. Mine went in 4500 miles. Two rusting chromed stanchions cost me £250 in stripping and rechroming.
    If you're a fair weather rider and stick to motorways then you won't experience the problems known to occur on them, but if you're a commuter (Ironic the bike was specifically built for it) then you'd better make sure you have a two year warranty and get shot of it straight afterwards.

    The reason the engine doesn't rev very high is because of its structure - the stroke of the piston is longer than the cylinder bore. So, the distance travelled by the piston in one stroke is longer than its diameter, making it a low revving engine, but with great torque.

    My Indian Scout is a hell of a lot more fun and beautiful. However, I ride my Nc500x wayyyyy more. The joy I get out of it is through the convenience of it. The super low amount I pay on gas, the DCT removing stalling or thought, a bit easier to lane split, and my god the storage.... The damn storage. I can leave my full face in no worries and actually do shopping without taking a backpack or saddlebags. It can sorta do off road and I mean you get so much value at a good price and it's reliable.

    Hi i dont own one of these yet but from what i have seen on other vlogs is the ease of maintenance on this vehicle compared to others in this range such as the kawasaki 650 and the suzuki .They seem to have to strip the whole bike down to do just minor things whereas the honda to change spark plugs two bolts of with the bottom cowl and there you are try do that with a kawasaki 650 ,ok they are not a lot of hp but we have 100km per hour here max so this bike can handle that easy light weight commuter and although not a full of road bike can travel on dirt roads no problems ,i think honda have nailed this one .

      Yes / No - changing the air filter is .... also modifying electricity .... you don't take just the tank down like in other motorcycles, you have to disassemble the luggage compartment for that.
      but on the other side it just doesn't break :D
      And yes 55HP is more then enough to make it hard to stay riding road legal.

    Replying to points as I watch:
    *Adrenaline - while it won't ride like a superbike, it's comfortable at speeds of 150 and even 160 kph. That alone can be quite fun. It's also fairly planted in the twisties, and you can really pin the throttle through corners, keeping up with faster bikes. If you're coming from a faster bike, I get it, but for someone moving up from a 250/300/400, this bike is pretty quick. You need to work the gearbox more, 6th is an overdrive, but it'll pull nicely in 5th/4th.
    *Reliability - there are also people in the NC group on FB with 200 and even 300 thousand KMs. I talked to a Greek guy that had about 270K on his, asked him what major repairs he had done. He said he just services the bike every 12K like the manual states and that's it.
    *I agree regarding the rev limiter. I think they easily could've had it up to 9-10K, but they chose to limit the RPMs for reliability and fuel economy.
    Overall great review!

Ok, it's not going to set your pulses racing, but if you want reliability and stupendous fuel economy, then you can't do much better than the Honda NC750-X DCT

  • @alexonthestreet

    I have one of these bikes and really struggle to get used to the lack of power. It handles ok and is cheap to run but the lack of power is difficult. I also find the wind noise absolutely terrible. It is the worst I have ever experienced. I have put a puig screen on it but while the noise level is a little better it is still a problem. All that against the fuel efficiency is why I keep the bike. Mind you I am always looking at something else. I tried a Versys 650 and while it had a little more power it would not be worth the change. A Z900RS or so would be better but more expensive to run. You can't have it all.

    That goes for the whole NC family. I have a NC750S and I am also very confident. Sure there are faster ones, but on curvy roads which I like the most you do not even fall behind. The handling is superb and the torque makes it up too, Only downpit is the small range where the power is delivered. So to keep up with faster ones you have to shift a lot ... or take DCT :D
    Perfect commuter bike which is also very well for touring. Well the chain will need replacement quite fast on mine (24000km).
    I am thinking of a 2nd, faster bike for the trips including autobahn or to get some diversity and speed thrills from time to time, but the NC will stay for sure, it is excellent in everyday usage.

      I hit the rev limiter 2-3 times in the first season during overtaking, 2-3 times chasing my buddy on his MT-07 (i guess his engine noise was louder then mine :) ). Beside that I feel it doesn't make usually sense to rev over 6000, it has so much power and torque in the midrange you likely won't be faster reving till the end.

      What Honda should have done is produce Nc 750 x but with a fairing.
      That would have made it a decent bike worth having.
      They could have changed the Deauville fairing a little and put that on it or at least parts of it to provide weather protection.
      As a biker yourself you know it's not always sunny with bright blue skies, and in the UK it's more of a rarity to have blue skies more grey than blue and usually more cold and rain than sun.
      So a fairing would be a huge advantage for people who don't want to ride around in water proof clothing all the time.

    Wheelies alone is not fun. Take the NC to twisties, Dare I say it's 95% as good as my Tuono.

    Bought a Tracer 700 had it for 12 months, I made some upgrades & I really enjoy it for what I do, day trips in the Alpes & weekends away. I'm exchanging for the Tracer 900 GT it should arrive here May/June. I would keep the 700 but the 900 has so many more options especially track control & riding modes, they have sorted the suspension fully adjustable. Here is a link of my bike. reghards, Frank.

      Tracer 700 is a nice bike. And the 900 is even better (and larger). Good choice.

    The NC750 is one of those "practical" motorcycles....which, I'm sure serves its stuffy-shirt riders well ;) For me when I ride I'm all about letting loose, screwing practicality and convention to have fun with flames shooting out from behind me ...hehehe :)

    If you commute big miles it's makes sense. If you buy a bike for fun riding then for me it's a big NO.
    54bhp from a bike weighing over 230KG!

      @djverhulst 6 років тому +11

      for normal riding it's enough, your faster than the most cars,

      220kg actually

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk 6 років тому +2

      BIKES PLAST Ok 220KG and 54bhp....... it's still overweight and underpowered. My 150BHP MT10 is still lighter. A Yamaha MT07 would make way more sense than this Honda, it's cheaper, lighter, revs much higher and makes much more power. The NC750 is a dependable, frugal commuter bike with tank storage but it's not a fun riders bike.

      If power is set against power consumption, the 750cc motor is very efficient, that it takes a 1.5 to 2 seconds longer to reach 100 km, I find less relevant than the fact that he whistling 1l at 30 km I do know a large number of 750cc engines that already have trouble with half of consumption, and for normal use the NC750X is smooth enough, you have more rush to buy another motorcycle.

      Banditmanuk If you're into fast bikes then why are you even here watching this, much less commenting. You do realise that people like different things from their bikes right? I could slag off the Yamaha's you mention on several points, but you don't see me trolling those videos; telling people why THEY shouldn't like them.
      If you don't like the NC, you don't even have to look at it. You certainly don't have to justify why you wouldn't buy it.
