Dad's a retired professor of audio tech (and crazy in the best way, as a senior lecturer he ran full tilt into a wall to illustrate something to do with reverberation of sound in microphones, cycled into a lecture theatre in full reflective gear, lay down in a corner to make noises, inflated rubber gloves and was known for always making a gin and tonic during the presentation at international conferences - and having it be relevant to the topic) and a fair bit of his research was about the behaviour of sound in a room. Maybe that's why the sound doesn't seem as good in Vancouver - did you work metal shows there? Would you say it's hard to get metal to work in a space like that?

I love these two-fers! If I may make a suggestion, Sleeping Sun, both Tarja's and Floor's version. Not to compare, but to see how they both made the song their own, but in a completely different way.
I want to suggest out a two-fer too. The Islander. There are no bad versions. It's hard to find a production quality live recording with Annette, so you may have to go the official video for that one, but any one with Floor will be fine. Again, picking a favorite is not required. All are great. EDIT: never mind, I see my (Ever) Dream has already come true, and I'm a dolt who missed the video. *facepalm* Keep up the great work man.
The original version was always one of the songs that hit me hardest listening to it, especially watching Tuomas in "End of an Era" knowing what surrounded that performance. The Wacken version though... brings tears to my eyes every time because I'll always remember that video being the confirmation that the Nightwish I knew and loved didn't just survive but was going to be better than ever., which at the time I was really worried I was losing a band that had influenced pretty much my entire musical taste.
People is so clear... in end of an era, Tarja's voice is EPIC, marko's voice is so much powerfull, and Jukka is simply amazing....!! This version is clearly the best.
I was there...and ofcourse public didnt know that Tuomas had a plan to kick her out the next day but I remember something was different, nobody had ever seen Tuomas being soo emotionalon stage, my friends said after the conert that this was something special.... nobody had ever seen Tuomas eing soos emotional , Idnt agree with how he treated Tarja, has vseen their live documentaries and Tarja was the onlu woman in th eband. male bandmates always had ladies of the night with them and they were huge party animals.... but Tarja seemed to e kinda intorvert , alsoI felt that Tarja didnt deserve the way she was fired but afterthey hiredDloor ( who was a great friend to Tarja) iand I listened some of tehir interviews and Tuomas has adnitted that he did sometimes mistakes how he handles Tarja siituation , They even write to eachother and 3 years ago I saw Tarja and Marco in Finland singing due, was amazing, so everything is okay betwee them oh an btw if you listen the album "once" again tehn you see that many lyric have been written about Tarja , Tuomas is a genious writer, he doesnt hold anything back
He cried because he wrote the song for her, and fired her that night. He's probably just experiencing guilt and sadness. Whatever, that was long time ago. It's a beautiful performance.
Always excited for Nightwish Wednesdays, and this one does not disappoint! Ever Dream is such a classic. I think I've settled on The Kinslayer as my primary recommendation for your next Wednesday. I've been floating a few different tracks out there, that one included, but given that you have multiple videos to choose from (including End of an Era, which features Emppu on a different guitar for the song), I think it's an interesting one to slide in before TGSoE.
Replying to myself to add that the Floor version from Buenos Aires does feature Marko doing the spoken parts that are pre-recorded by Ike Vil on the Tarja version.
The Kinslayer, I think, is the ONLY song that I thought Tarja did better than Floor. All the others - either on par or on the side of Floor. Kisnlayer needs Tarja's voice, I gotta say.
The irony of Tarjas version...when you paused on Tuomas holding his hands to his face...Everyone in the band knew these were the last songs to be played together...obviously the crowd had no idea...but there are subtle "hints" that this is it...title of the tour is a bit of a hint. Appreciate the double feature love a lot, Tank! For an early supporter it was unimaginable to hear another voice in Nightwish as we fell in love with the band, bc of Tarja's unique voice (at the time 'beauty vs. beast-vocals' were just being invented. I'm happy how Tuomas music actually has evolved for a big part bc of the different vocalists. From Classical to Jazz/Rock to 'whatEver he can Dream of as Floor can handle all the technique challenges of his song writing.
Beauty & Beast vocals appeared earlier than that: I believe that Theatre of Tragedy was the first band that has been formed around that concept. Their first, self-titled, album was released in 1995.
That "End of an Era" version is the one and only right one and also the best and most genuine version of this song...we just know and feel it. Maiden was my number one band before I heard Tarja to sing Tuomas music of "Sacrament of Wilderness" in 1998. Maiden is still there though ; ) ... this is just so awesome !!!

I came to your channel a little bit backwards, because I started with the greatest show on earth. :) Since that, I've watched about 10 of your Nightwishes and some others in 3 evenings. I like a lot, I appreciate your knowlegde and your effort to check the story behing a song. I'm glad you took your time to make this a double reaction. Of course, I'm biased, because I have listened Nightwish since forever, but I don't consider myself "as a fan". :) And I don't want to debate about these great singers. For me, of course, Tarja sings these best, because I have been accustomed for that. I think Anette jumped into those large boots quite excellently, she did great with these "oldies", added some of her own without takin anything away. When Floor came, it caused somekind of retirement for me from Nightwish, because I didn't like her way of singing these. Since then, hearing songs Tuomas wrote for Floor, she is great also. But I think, this song is quite a good example of what I mean. While Tarja's singing is so easy and effortless, I think Floor has to push, and in the end it pushes her to shout. Of course, this also gives credit to Tuomas, what a great songwriter, considers his singers capabilities also while writing. What comes to you becoming a Marco fanboy, I am too. I heavily recommend you doing a reaction video for his solo video "the voice of my father".

I was at the NYC show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. One of my top 5 shows of all time. Sabaton and Delain opened for Nightwish. Doesn't get much better than that.
I saw that same tour, but at the Filmore in Silver Spring, MD! I was blown away by Sabaton, who I had never heard before. I can't wait to see Nightwish again when the world opens up.
Such a great tour! They added a last-minute club show in my city and I got to see the first-ever live performance (with Floor) of Poet and the Pendulum before they officially debuted it in Dallas. Also where I heard Delain and Sabaton for the first time, so basically that concert shaped my musical tastes for the next...forever 😂

Ah these double reactions!!! Loving it! Personally, I agree with you that is hard to say Floor didn't made any song her own and just say that song is a Tarja song. But there are just a few differences that make me praise each version. 1- I prefer Floor's way of connecting the words and phrases. It seems more fluid and that she really thought on how to better pronounce the words, making it easier to understand the lyrics than with Tarja 2- Tarja's voice matches the older songs better, although Tuomas and Floor did an excellent job on the minor changes so it could fit Floor's voice better 3- Not sure right now (will edit later, probably), but I don't remember Marco singing the ending with Floor as he did with Tarja. Always prefer when he does those harmonies.
I think you should do another double reaction with rhe Wacken opener, Dark Chest of Wonders and the closer, Last Ride of the Day. There's some pretty spectacular production with how they open and close their shows, and I would love to hear your thoughts on them.
I was in the same frame of mind about Tarja's singing style as you due to the first couple of songs I heard. The more I hear though the more it fit in the overall scheme of things. Hearing her and Floor back to back definitely secured that thought. Both are FANTASTIC!!

You see him drumming, easily, smoothly, no stress, cruising along ........... but you can hear those kicks cutting through , brdrdrbrdrbrdr. Yep. Upstairs looking nice and serene. Downstairs pedalling away hard!!!
That moment when Tumoas put hands to his face was very emotional. This song, and many other, he wrote about Tarja. He was in love with her. Maybe not sexual love. But she was his muse, his nymph, his sirren. Her voice was his inspiration. They knew each other since they were kids. And after that performance they fired her. Cant imagine what Tuomas was going through. No wonder Poet and Pendulum is masterpiece.
Even Kai's drumming is 10/10 great and accured as always, I really, really,..... really enjoy Jukka's heavier drumming slightly more. 👌😊 Still my favorite Everdream live version is 2013 Wacken. show. 💪
It occured to me that you would probably like Ayreon - River of Time. It headlines Marco from Nightwish and Hansi from Blind Guardian. And as a bonus it has some pretty stong folk music inspirations.
With Ayreon, you need to differentiate a bit: the song headlines Marko if you do the live version. The studio version has Bob Catley instead, if I remember correctly. Both are awesome though. But since Tank is mostly doing live versions: Yes to River of Time! Also: Age of shadows live for Marko, Hansi AND Floor! :D

Now that you've reacted to this, I really suggest going to see the Floor Wacken 2013 version after this, because honestly, I think that one was so much better just voice wise from both Floor and Marko.
I would really recommend to do Stargazers - one of my absolute favorite songs. And one of the few songs where Floor uses her operatic voice almost the hole time.
A triple reaction would have been great. Annette was chosed mainly as singer in late 2006/early 2007 from h singing "Ever Dream" on a tape sent to the band (among other songs). Different style, but not bad at all!
Ooo Dark Chest of Wonders double reaction!! As much as I absolutely adore Floor, I do feel like Ever Dream really is Tarja’s song. The song was written for her which is the reason Tuomas was so emotional.

At the start you can actually see before Tuomas stops, as he's still playing, looks like he's blowing out his breath as though trying to keep it together. This last show with Tarja must have been really difficult.
Thank you so much for reacting to End of an Era as well! For me it's one of the most emotional moments in Nightwish history. It's a great version, even though I feel a lot for Tuomas knowing what is coming next.. One of the moments that illustrate The Poet And the Pendulum background better than 1000 words. Another one is probably Nightwish documentary A Day Before Tomorrow, which shows a couple of weeks prior to End of an Era show...
I was going to say this! For me they are both amazing singing this song, but in very distinct ways. They give so many different colors to song that I really think everyone has to listen both versions. Not for comparison but for appreciate two great singers!

Loving these double-headers. Not wanting to compare the singers (who are both great), but more to just see how the band has changed and not changed over the years and hear their different versions of the same some. If you're up for some more double-headers, Sleeping Sun and Gethsemene would be good candidates. There's a REALLY old video of Gethsemene floating around where everyone has short hair.

The acoustics in this version is really good. You hear every part of the song clearly. Also I'm hearing backing vocals on Floor in the chorus that I don't think I've heard on any other live version,which is interesting. It also sounds like Floor is holding back, her voice feels a bit strained. Maybe it's a later show in the tour so her voice might simply be tired from the intense schedule. Great reaction as always.

Always nice to get a double feature! Ever Dream was from Century Child, which was the album in between Wishmaster and Once, and if you check out the album, you can tell that it's a transition phase between the 'power metal'-ish vibes of Oceanborn/Wishmaster to Once's more commercialized sound. I would recommend that you also check out a few of the gems in their older repertoire (Bless the Child; Dead Boy's Poem, the eponymous Wishmaster, Stargazers, Gethsemane, etc.) to see how Nightwish's music has evolved and yet intrinsically remained very Nightwish-ish. I'd reckon putting Oceanborn and Once back to back, you'd be surprised at how far-off they sound but will also still make you think 'yep, that's them'. Also: I know some were probably yammering about this not being the Wacken version, which was stellar, but I'm glad you're also shedding light on the other live performances. Wacken was amazing, but the mix and editing were so polished, and I love performances where things like off-key notes (Troy in Wembley's Alpenglow) and slight vocal missteps (Floor in Buenos Aires' Nemo) are heard because it makes the entire thing all the more raw and organic, and similar to how a concert would actually sound if you're there.
Interesting that comment about not expecting to stomach Tarja's operatic Nightwish, as for me it was totally opposite. After falling in love with their first album, I loved how their music evolved whilst dreading the fact that Tarja's vocals were turning more and more contemporary. Her dismissal did it for me and, even though I actually saw them live with Anette in Brixton, I didn't get back to it until recently, with Floor finally doing justice - and in her own style! - to the songs I thought no one will ever sing as well as Tarja.
Ever Dream is one of my favorite songs. Special place in my heart. I can really relate to the lyrics, there was a time when this really hit home. This song is also one of the most personal songs for Tuomas too. So the emotions he had were there for a reason..
I'm going to keep suggesting "While Your Lips Are Still Red" from Wembley 2015 until you do it 🤣 The reason I believe would be perfect for you to react to is that you really have a love and appreciation for Marko's vocals and he is the main vocalist of this song. The song is beautiful and it also has Troy playing guitar with what I believe is a magnet to create an absolute stunning sound that has to be heard.
Tarja is a beautiful singer but Floor just gets me teary eyed with this one. I love the Wacken version, but for some reason Vancouver feels so special. The way she sings it... like she wraps me in a warm blanket and gives me a cup of hot chocolate. Comforting, warm, soft, soothing.
Kai plays the drums like a machine. Have you noticed that when Jukka is drumming he has a different groove to his playing? When I am rocking to Jukka, I find myself rocking my head side to side (not up and down). There seems to be a kind of swing feel to his playing. Watch how he moves his body to the music. However, when Kai is playing he has a more machinelike feel. It is very subtle, but different. I think this is why we all miss Jukka. He has a very unique feel to his drumming. Even when he is kicking the double base it seems to have a certain rhythm maybe involving a slight accent. Kai is so perfect it sound like a machine. Is it just me or do you hear and feel the difference. Don't get me wrong, I love Kai's playing. Respect for both. Peace.

I really like that Floor has made her own version of Ever Dream. It's such an iconic Tarja song and it would do them both a disservice to try to copy Tarjas style. Now they're both awesome versions, unique to each singer.
Aaaaah man...the feels. Everdream is my favorite song from Nightwish, ever. Not the greatest on a technical aspect, but it as been "My"' nightwish songs and is the one that got me hooked on the band for real back in 2005. As much as i ended up prefering Floor on most of their stuff, even some older songs, this song will and always will be (for me) best in studio version with Tarja. The song grew up on me on many ways, throughout many challenge i was facing and it will always have this sweet spot in my mind and heart. Damn i was glad to see you were reacting to it!

Unapologetic Nightwish fan who prefers Floor on vocals here, I actually love Tarja on this song. Like you, Tank, She has grown on me over time and while I still have my preference, I have gained a healthy respect for Tarja, and Anette and their contributions to this amazing band.

I love these two-fers! If I may make a suggestion, Sleeping Sun, both Tarja's and Floor's version. Not to compare, but to see how they both made the song their own, but in a completely different way.
I want to suggest out a two-fer too. The Islander. There are no bad versions. It's hard to find a production quality live recording with Annette, so you may have to go the official video for that one, but any one with Floor will be fine. Again, picking a favorite is not required. All are great. EDIT: never mind, I see my (Ever) Dream has already come true, and I'm a dolt who missed the video. *facepalm* Keep up the great work man.

Slaying the dreamer live 2005, end of an era
The original version was always one of the songs that hit me hardest listening to it, especially watching Tuomas in "End of an Era" knowing what surrounded that performance. The Wacken version though... brings tears to my eyes every time because I'll always remember that video being the confirmation that the Nightwish I knew and loved didn't just survive but was going to be better than ever., which at the time I was really worried I was losing a band that had influenced pretty much my entire musical taste.

I was there...and ofcourse public didnt know that Tuomas had a plan to kick her out the next day but I remember something was different, nobody had ever seen Tuomas being soo emotionalon stage, my friends said after the conert that this was something special.... nobody had ever seen Tuomas eing soos emotional , Idnt agree with how he treated Tarja, has vseen their live documentaries and Tarja was the onlu woman in th eband. male bandmates always had ladies of the night with them and they were huge party animals.... but Tarja seemed to e kinda intorvert , alsoI felt that Tarja didnt deserve the way she was fired but afterthey hiredDloor ( who was a great friend to Tarja) iand I listened some of tehir interviews and Tuomas has adnitted that he did sometimes mistakes how he handles Tarja siituation , They even write to eachother and 3 years ago I saw Tarja and Marco in Finland singing due, was amazing, so everything is okay betwee them

Always excited for Nightwish Wednesdays, and this one does not disappoint! Ever Dream is such a classic.
I think I've settled on The Kinslayer as my primary recommendation for your next Wednesday. I've been floating a few different tracks out there, that one included, but given that you have multiple videos to choose from (including End of an Era, which features Emppu on a different guitar for the song), I think it's an interesting one to slide in before TGSoE.
Replying to myself to add that the Floor version from Buenos Aires does feature Marko doing the spoken parts that are pre-recorded by Ike Vil on the Tarja version.
The Kinslayer, I think, is the ONLY song that I thought Tarja did better than Floor. All the others - either on par or on the side of Floor. Kisnlayer needs Tarja's voice, I gotta say.
The irony of Tarjas version...when you paused on Tuomas holding his hands to his face...Everyone in the band knew these were the last songs to be played together...obviously the crowd had no idea...but there are subtle "hints" that this is it...title of the tour is a bit of a hint.

For an early supporter it was unimaginable to hear another voice in Nightwish as we fell in love with the band, bc of Tarja's unique voice (at the time 'beauty vs. beast-vocals' were just being invented.
I'm happy how Tuomas music actually has evolved for a big part bc of the different vocalists. From Classical to Jazz/Rock to 'whatEver he can Dream of as Floor can handle all the technique challenges of his song writing.
Beauty & Beast vocals appeared earlier than that: I believe that Theatre of Tragedy was the first band that has been formed around that concept. Their first, self-titled, album was released in 1995.

That "End of an Era" version is the one and only right one and also the best and most genuine version of this song...we just know and feel it. Maiden was my number one band before I heard Tarja to sing Tuomas music of "Sacrament of Wilderness" in 1998. Maiden is still there though ; ) ... this is just so awesome !!!

Since that, I've watched about 10 of your Nightwishes and some others in 3 evenings. I like a lot, I appreciate your knowlegde and your effort to check the story behing a song.
I'm glad you took your time to make this a double reaction. Of course, I'm biased, because I have listened Nightwish since forever, but I don't consider myself "as a fan". :) And I don't want to debate about these great singers.
For me, of course, Tarja sings these best, because I have been accustomed for that. I think Anette jumped into those large boots quite excellently, she did great with these "oldies", added some of her own without takin anything away. When Floor came, it caused somekind of retirement for me from Nightwish, because I didn't like her way of singing these. Since then, hearing songs Tuomas wrote for Floor, she is great also. But I think, this song is quite a good example of what I mean. While Tarja's singing is so easy and effortless, I think Floor has to push, and in the end it pushes her to shout.
Of course, this also gives credit to Tuomas, what a great songwriter, considers his singers capabilities also while writing.
What comes to you becoming a Marco fanboy, I am too. I heavily recommend you doing a reaction video for his solo video "the voice of my father".

I was at the NYC show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. One of my top 5 shows of all time. Sabaton and Delain opened for Nightwish. Doesn't get much better than that.
I saw that same tour, but at the Filmore in Silver Spring, MD! I was blown away by Sabaton, who I had never heard before. I can't wait to see Nightwish again when the world opens up.

Such a great tour! They added a last-minute club show in my city and I got to see the first-ever live performance (with Floor) of Poet and the Pendulum before they officially debuted it in Dallas. Also where I heard Delain and Sabaton for the first time, so basically that concert shaped my musical tastes for the next...forever 😂

Personally, I agree with you that is hard to say Floor didn't made any song her own and just say that song is a Tarja song. But there are just a few differences that make me praise each version.
1- I prefer Floor's way of connecting the words and phrases. It seems more fluid and that she really thought on how to better pronounce the words, making it easier to understand the lyrics than with Tarja
2- Tarja's voice matches the older songs better, although Tuomas and Floor did an excellent job on the minor changes so it could fit Floor's voice better
3- Not sure right now (will edit later, probably), but I don't remember Marco singing the ending with Floor as he did with Tarja. Always prefer when he does those harmonies.

I love Tarja and Marco! they returned to sing together a few years ago and it was magical to see them together again.
I was in the same frame of mind about Tarja's singing style as you due to the first couple of songs I heard. The more I hear though the more it fit in the overall scheme of things. Hearing her and Floor back to back definitely secured that thought. Both are FANTASTIC!!

That moment when Tumoas put hands to his face was very emotional. This song, and many other, he wrote about Tarja. He was in love with her. Maybe not sexual love. But she was his muse, his nymph, his sirren. Her voice was his inspiration. They knew each other since they were kids. And after that performance they fired her. Cant imagine what Tuomas was going through. No wonder Poet and Pendulum is masterpiece.

With Ayreon, you need to differentiate a bit: the song headlines Marko if you do the live version. The studio version has Bob Catley instead, if I remember correctly. Both are awesome though. But since Tank is mostly doing live versions: Yes to River of Time! Also: Age of shadows live for Marko, Hansi AND Floor! :D

I would really recommend to do Stargazers - one of my absolute favorite songs. And one of the few songs where Floor uses her operatic voice almost the hole time.
A triple reaction would have been great. Annette was chosed mainly as singer in late 2006/early 2007 from h singing "Ever Dream" on a tape sent to the band (among other songs). Different style, but not bad at all!
Ooo Dark Chest of Wonders double reaction!! As much as I absolutely adore Floor, I do feel like Ever Dream really is Tarja’s song. The song was written for her which is the reason Tuomas was so emotional.
i just found out that most of the songs in "Once" have been written about Tarja, Tuomas definetly loved her and I feellike "Once" is their best album ever, artists are best when they are in pan for some reason,in "dark chest of wonders" Tuomas even talks how he is afraid that he cant write about anything else but Tarja but his love for her is killing him so he has tolet go" I always felt like Tuomas sounded like crazy ex bf when he kicked Tarja out...now I understand why he hated Tarjas husband soo badly at that time but thankfully he has admitted that they handled the situation very badly and Floor who is Tarjas friend btw has never performed "bye bye beautiful" on Nightwish live performances....this shows that she has respect for her and thats why I dont like how some toxic nightwish fans make it seem like Floorand Tarja have some kind of beef....they dont at all and both are amazing singers , there are somesongs I prefer tolisten with Tarja and others with Floor , I deeply respect Tuomas as well, lyrics he writes are just soooo beautiful btw fun fact is that Floor has said that "Ever dream" is the most difficult Nightwish song for her to sing, she says that she changed a key a little cause "Ever dream" has written for very operatic singer( Tarja) and she doesnt want to sound too sqeaky
At the start you can actually see before Tuomas stops, as he's still playing, looks like he's blowing out his breath as though trying to keep it together. This last show with Tarja must have been really difficult.
Thank you so much for reacting to End of an Era as well! For me it's one of the most emotional moments in Nightwish history. It's a great version, even though I feel a lot for Tuomas knowing what is coming next.. One of the moments that illustrate The Poet And the Pendulum background better than 1000 words. Another one is probably Nightwish documentary A Day Before Tomorrow, which shows a couple of weeks prior to End of an Era show...
When you do "Dead Boy's Poem", you should do another double, "From Wishes to Eternity" and Buenos Aires 2018.

I was going to say this! For me they are both amazing singing this song, but in very distinct ways. They give so many different colors to song that I really think everyone has to listen both versions. Not for comparison but for appreciate two great singers!

Next video, either 'Elan' 'Weak Fantasy', or 'Shudder Before the Beautiful', all of which are off the EFMB album. A good lead up to 'The Greatest Show on Earth'. :)

Loving these double-headers. Not wanting to compare the singers (who are both great), but more to just see how the band has changed and not changed over the years and hear their different versions of the same some. If you're up for some more double-headers, Sleeping Sun and Gethsemene would be good candidates. There's a REALLY old video of Gethsemene floating around where everyone has short hair.

The acoustics in this version is really good. You hear every part of the song clearly. Also I'm hearing backing vocals on Floor in the chorus that I don't think I've heard on any other live version,which is interesting. It also sounds like Floor is holding back, her voice feels a bit strained. Maybe it's a later show in the tour so her voice might simply be tired from the intense schedule. Great reaction as always.

As far as recommendations go I'd say "Sahara" live in Tampa and "Sleeping sun" Floor or Tarja or both you choose! I think you are going to really like them and they are slightly overlooked from reactors though they are great songs. 🌷
Always nice to get a double feature! Ever Dream was from Century Child, which was the album in between Wishmaster and Once, and if you check out the album, you can tell that it's a transition phase between the 'power metal'-ish vibes of Oceanborn/Wishmaster to Once's more commercialized sound. I would recommend that you also check out a few of the gems in their older repertoire (Bless the Child; Dead Boy's Poem, the eponymous Wishmaster, Stargazers, Gethsemane, etc.) to see how Nightwish's music has evolved and yet intrinsically remained very Nightwish-ish. I'd reckon putting Oceanborn and Once back to back, you'd be surprised at how far-off they sound but will also still make you think 'yep, that's them'.
Also: I know some were probably yammering about this not being the Wacken version, which was stellar, but I'm glad you're also shedding light on the other live performances. Wacken was amazing, but the mix and editing were so polished, and I love performances where things like off-key notes (Troy in Wembley's Alpenglow) and slight vocal missteps (Floor in Buenos Aires' Nemo) are heard because it makes the entire thing all the more raw and organic, and similar to how a concert would actually sound if you're there.
Interesting that comment about not expecting to stomach Tarja's operatic Nightwish, as for me it was totally opposite. After falling in love with their first album, I loved how their music evolved whilst dreading the fact that Tarja's vocals were turning more and more contemporary. Her dismissal did it for me and, even though I actually saw them live with Anette in Brixton, I didn't get back to it until recently, with Floor finally doing justice - and in her own style! - to the songs I thought no one will ever sing as well as Tarja.
Ever Dream is one of my favorite songs. Special place in my heart. I can really relate to the lyrics, there was a time when this really hit home. This song is also one of the most personal songs for Tuomas too. So the emotions he had were there for a reason..
I'm going to keep suggesting "While Your Lips Are Still Red" from Wembley 2015 until you do it 🤣
The reason I believe would be perfect for you to react to is that you really have a love and appreciation for Marko's vocals and he is the main vocalist of this song. The song is beautiful and it also has Troy playing guitar with what I believe is a magnet to create an absolute stunning sound that has to be heard.
Tarja is a beautiful singer but Floor just gets me teary eyed with this one. I love the Wacken version, but for some reason Vancouver feels so special. The way she sings it... like she wraps me in a warm blanket and gives me a cup of hot chocolate. Comforting, warm, soft, soothing.
Kai plays the drums like a machine. Have you noticed that when Jukka is drumming he has a different groove to his playing? When I am rocking to Jukka, I find myself rocking my head side to side (not up and down). There seems to be a kind of swing feel to his playing. Watch how he moves his body to the music. However, when Kai is playing he has a more machinelike feel. It is very subtle, but different. I think this is why we all miss Jukka. He has a very unique feel to his drumming. Even when he is kicking the double base it seems to have a certain rhythm maybe involving a slight accent. Kai is so perfect it sound like a machine. Is it just me or do you hear and feel the difference. Don't get me wrong, I love Kai's playing. Respect for both. Peace.

I really like that Floor has made her own version of Ever Dream. It's such an iconic Tarja song and it would do them both a disservice to try to copy Tarjas style. Now they're both awesome versions, unique to each singer.

Everdream is my favorite song from Nightwish, ever. Not the greatest on a technical aspect, but it as been "My"' nightwish songs and is the one that got me hooked on the band for real back in 2005.
As much as i ended up prefering Floor on most of their stuff, even some older songs, this song will and always will be (for me) best in studio version with Tarja. The song grew up on me on many ways, throughout many challenge i was facing and it will always have this sweet spot in my mind and heart. Damn i was glad to see you were reacting to it!

When I watch End of the Era footage I always remember that guys of the band knew it was their final concert with Tarja while she did not. (They handed her the letter which fired her right after the concert. And published it on their website at the same time)
