I've been waiting for years for someone to comment on the "lust" delivery! THAT is first rate onomatopoeia!

    • @JariJuslin
      @JariJuslin 11 місяців тому +3

Yes. It *sounds* like lust, and very intentionally! Similar thing in "I Wish I Had An Angel" - Tarja was cool and distant all the way through, whereas Floor throws in these siren-like touches to emphasize the meaning of the words.

      RIGHT!?? 😅😂
Me, I've been waiting for years for one of these reactors to make a comment on the prominent brass horns in the small operatic "ahh, ahh... ahh!" 'note scales' part in "Ghost Love Score"... 😮 But, alas, not one has done so, as yet... heh. 😅 {sigh} 😢 One day, yet, though... 🎉 one day, it'll happen... LoL. 😂

One of the interesting things about Floor's singing in this song and in the Nightwish catalogue in general, is her ability to shift registers in the middle of a single phrase to add emphasis. Many singers will go from a chest belt to a mixed belt, to a high belt or head voice, as the notes require them to shift. Floor runs through these registers in the middle of her range simply to make a word or two stand out from the rest of the phrase, e.g. popping into head voice for a single note on a word that she could easily have belted.
At the end, Floor is at the upper end of her belting range and chooses to stay there rather than flip into an easier head voice. That takes both vocal stamina and control to avoid it becoming screechy. She talks about the trickiness of singing the ending of "Ever Dream" and not having her sound become thin. It also says something about her courage as she's taking a risk of things going south during those high, sustained belts. It would be much easier and safer for her to cruise through that passage in head voice.

I stumbled across this band a few months ago and haven't been able to understand why I've fallen for them so badly. So, thanks for explaining what it is that makes one feel their songs and not just hear them. Indeed a meaningful reaction.
Every band member contributes greatly to each song. I particularly enjoy the energy (both in his drumming and his body language) that Jukka brings.
    More Nightwish reactions required!

Once upon the time we had beer together with this band after the concert....and we were alle very tired and very drunk.....wonderful down to earth people. You cannot hold any negative strike to them.
We are Northern Vikings...the Finnish are in a class to themselves. The most wonderful people and band together with Apocalyptica.
Yes, this voice is one of the best in heavy metal - and Marko ...drunk bastard 😉🤘❤️ still going strong. Cellos and really strong voice work.

Not every band has a bass player that can win a masked singer competition. In many other songs, like the Poet And The Pendulum, Marko has a role singing parts and backing for Floor. In a few songs, e.g The Islander and Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red there is a role reversal, Floor is singing backing vocals for Marko. Both are amazing backing vocal singers that really listen to the front voice, so they always sound perfect together. For en extended meaning of backing voice and front voice interaction by Floor and Marko, check out Yours Is An Empty Hope.

The thing that always gets me is in the recorded ONCE version, at the climax, Tarja goes down. Floor being the Valkyrie she is, goes UP, and for a few moments all the normal rules and scales change, the dials go completely around the dial again to the STUPID good range and you realize Grammy winners are not that good and you actually feel sorry for them.

My first time watching you react to my favorite band, and wow! I've been watching reactions for 5 years, and I can't remember anyone taking time to talk about "Entwined in finding you one day". Such a beautiful lyric that says so much with a few words. Her pronunciation of "lust" is another standout moment. Its hard to pick up stuff like that on forst watching, most people (including me) are blown away at the vocals and deums that your brain just can't process everthing! This was one of my favorite reactions, looking forward to more.

One of the songs that all 3 lead singers have sung. From the 2002 album, Century Child. The studio version didn't start softer, that is a change they made when they took it live. The man you are impressed with, is original drummer Jukka(You-ka) Nevalainen. But ,it doesn't matter which lady is singing, it's Marko's small vocal parts that complete the song ,for me, and I see you really enjoyed that too.
Marko sang lead on a few songs with Nightwish. Check out the cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes from 2005 Helsinki (End of an Era DVD), The Islander from Tampere 2015, While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley 2015, and Endlessness lyric video from the 2020 Human:ll:Nature album (Marko left before they got a chance to play it live). And from Marko's first band ,Tarot, where he sang lead: Wings of Darkness or Tides.

When it comes to the "false" ending, it fits the story - this song is about wishes that ultimately never come true, so there's no totally satistying closure, and the end of the song communicates that well.

This song is amazing! I hope I will get to hear it live one day, but this recording is the nexr beat thing.
And I noticed that some people in the crowd just atands there lokking totally awestruck. This was the first time the vast majority of the European fanbase hears and saw Floor performing with Nightwish. So I can only imagine what this felt like. Especially this song since she gives this song so much more power with her amazing belts. She has said in an interview that this song is the most exhausting of them all, because it just keeps going and she has to stay so high for so long while using so much power.
When I first saw Nightwish live I had ofc heard Floor sing with Nightwish thousands of times ut I was in no shape or form prepared for what was comming.I thought I was gonna rock out like crazy and sing like a madman.
But I just sat there during the whole show looking like I just saw god. Totally awestruck and so emotionally connected that I was overwhelmed with it all.
But it was an amazing experience, one I never will forget.
Nightwish just has a spark that doesn’t really come through in the recordings. It fills the air with this sense of wonder and excitement.
So im telling you, you have to see them live. If you ever get the chance just go for it!

Tuomas Holopainen is at the keyboards. Actually he is composing and orchestaring all the Nightwish music stuff. I have always wondered how come US is so late to discover this band even though they toured in USA back in the years. I guess they just did not have a three minutes hit song to be palyed on the radio channels.

Love the commentary on the vocals, drum fills, and Emppu's beautiful solos. He uses his guitar to sing the melodies of the song. It is a minor 3rd modulation my friend. From the key of G minor to B♭ minor. However, the actual chord change goes from F major to to B♭ minor. Great reaction and commentary!

Hey Sir :D I feel like the guitar is almost like a violine a lot of the times which fits the whole genre they do its smooth and not overdriven kinda clean adn straight to the point. Just for yourself you might wanne check out the whole concert at wacken 2013 whcih is online. And then at the end you can see that they are so in freaking awww of what they just delivered. Floor said on a TV show that that was for her personally the biggest show and biggets emotion they have ever played. You can see that at the end of the live full concert. There might be a tear here or there by some members of the band and it is just so cool to see them being in that moment and taking it all in. In my personal opinions it is one of the coolest live shows you can watch on youtube with the rollercoasters of emotions and changes and jsut as w show.

Floor has said in an interview that Everdream was one of the most challenging songs to sing. This is because it was originally sung by Tarya in an operatic head voice. But Floor wanted to sing it in a mixed voice. Also the key change after the guitar solo meant she had to go even higher. But, Floor being the vocal athlete that she is, made it look easy.

her diction and enunciating her words are very good and you shouldn't have too much trouble understanding what she's saying but there are other other words that are a part of the human nature double album like in the song music lyrics and hows the heart lyrics markco is a good singer and i love that they are harmonizing their vocals and they don't have to constantly sing over each other instead find a good balance and very light sounds great its a nice 80's love ballad she has such a powerful and incredible range that she and they all have

One thing you need to know - nothing Floor does is accidental.
To demonstrate this, I recommend you watch a video on her own YT channel, in which she reacts to rectors reacting to GLS.
In fact, despite the name of the video, it is actually a run through the song explaining every choice and change of vocal she makes.
Every one of them is thought out to fit what she is trying to convey and it is fascinating.
Have you heard Song of Myself from this concert? Marco and Floor together.
Also Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires 2018.
BTW that driving line you're talking about reflects the piano accompaniment in the soft opening. As so often with Tuomas, there's a cyclic quality that goes beyond the usual a-b-a-c-a-b progression.
.and that is definitely a modulation and it gets me every time. You think we're high up and he modulates it up to do another build-up

I wonder how close you got those Lord of The rings cellos. It is possible they are The same cellos, but when song was originally made it was made with Finnish orchestra. It was just next album Once what they did together with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The same orchestra who made music to The Lord of The Rings. And If they have made new backing track for Everdream it's possible they are excatly same cellos... But Tuomas hasn't told what he plays from keyboard and what is on backing track. He used old Korg for a long time cause he liked strings on it. But I suspect he run out of those 90's Korg haven't been made in long time.
