  • Sampling two recordings of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "If I Loved You". The Jerry Jackson version from 1966 and the P.J. Proby version from 1972. They were on the same record label.

I've done numerous searches for anything of Jerry Jackson. Video, or audio. Or photos. While I can't say for sure by this audio, I don't know if there were any other "Jerry Jackson" performers back then but Jesse Duplantis went by the stage name of Jerry Jackson. I've been trying to find any old footage of his band days. In some of his sermons when he starts talking about his salvation story, he mentions performing in the same circuits as Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk... He says he went on stage after receiving Jesus in a hotel bathroom in 1974, he was to do a show that night and was singing (either with, or just the song by) Sly and the Family Stone, and he was supposed to open with "I wanna take you higher" but he says he went on stage and sang "Everybody in this place is goin to hell"....
A bio I found elsewhere online said he played in a band called "Spring Winecooler,", again under the stage name: "Jerry Jackson."

I believe the name was spelled Jerry Jaxon tho (but after extensive searching I really can't find anything on it). The pic looks nothing like him to me but the voice, could be. Hard to say.

P.J. Proby recorded "If I Loved You" already 1965 and it´s included on his 2nd album.
So Proby recorded it before Jerry Jackson

@PrimetimeForMusic So what remains is the fact that P.J. Proby recorded "If I Loved You" before Jerry Jackson and NOT six years after Jerry Jackson.

@PrimetimeForMusic Of course I know it is another version on the Ember label and of course I know that loads of other singers have recorded "If I Loved You" I just mentioned that Proby recorded it before Jerry Jackson. That is just fact......
It´s your right to have your opinion and it´s my right to have my opinion by saying that Proby´s version from 1965 is the best version ever - loads of singers who recorded it earlier or later can´t compete at all to the 1965 version.

@TourismDeveloper It´s a pity you don´t seem to understand the simple fact that Proby recorded "If I Loved You" before Jerry Jackson. So I believe Proby inspired Jerry Jackson to
record it a year later. What are people interested of ? - Ember or the best version of "If I Loved You" ? The uploader could mention the earlier recording by Proby - the fact which I added, so if the uploader did not know about it before - he/she know it by now.
    Understand my point ?
    Enough about that ?

@bowzerateit It´s not a matter of my "facts".Guess even you can find out that it´s a matter of FACT if you read on the cover of Proby´s 2nd LP(with"If I Loved You" ) you have to confirm that it was recorded 1965.Concerning your comment on my channel - I can please you that it´s approved now - even if it´s just your "facts" for me. Parts of a film can be done as a complement after the mainly takings are done. It´s even just a matter of remark on a word.which Proby said in my interview with him

@TourismDeveloper The most important is about THE FACT that Proby recorded "If I Loved You" before Jerry Jackson. If Ember could not even offer Proby his own backing track - it´s just a confirmation that Ember was a low budget label........Must be impossible to make a complete different version if you are even forced to keep to the same arrangement. Nothing you can be inspired of at all.- specially if you are a singer known for your own interpretations.......

@bowzerateit Guess the correct English should be "take part in".So you misunderstood me completely just because I wrote "of" instead of "in" ?
The most important is that P.J. did demos for Elvis. I repeat it again for you :
Parts of a film can be done as a complement after the mainly takings are done. It´s even just a matter of remark on a word.which Proby said in my interview with him.
Your recently approved comment is for me just a matter of your "facts" and without any interest at all.

@seasonkickoff Hmmm "somebody´s video" Nothing of that video belongs to "somebody".He/she does not got the right to copy, upload and spread these recordings.Guess you´ve heard about COPYRIGHT.....Like Manja - I never heard about Jerry Jackson so I guess he really should need a promotor (if he is still kicking).
"Trying to dominate the comments" !! Are you serious ? For me it just confirms that Jerry Jackson does not seems to have so many fans or are they on a season kickoff??
