    I already thanked you but I’d like to again, I just finished replacing my HG and replaced my bolts for studs. Without your videos this would have taken longer to find all the information than to actually do the job. Thanks so much man. Really appreciate including the torque specs.

    After watching the removal video, I have my head back from the machine shop. It has been pressure checked and resurfaced. I watched your video and wrote down all of the torque specs. Replaced my head gasket with an original Cummins head gasket as my truck has 193k miles on it with and the head gasket looked fine upon removal. Lowered the head into the engine compartment and installed a new set of ARP head studs. Followed your steps to the T and “Shazam” she fired right up! I would have never tackled this job without your videos. Thanks again!

    Great video, just got my 2013 cummins running again after a month down since the grid heater bolt melted off and went through my engine. Rebuilt head, 6 new pistons, injectors rebuilt, rebuilt turbo and grid heater delete with aftermarket heater on intake tube. Anyone with a 2013-2020 cummins make sure you check where your power cable connects to the grid heater, if it's loose do not drive it until you replace the fridge heater. Ram service bulletin calls it the wiggle test!

    Excellent video. I am about to replace my HG on my 2007.5 6.7L due to failure. My truck has over 300K miles on it so I believe I have gotten pretty good life out of the original. I will definitely watch both of the video’s again before I begin and probably a third time before install. I would like to make one comment/suggestion on your procedure. I am retired from the military and worked on helicopters. I seem to recall a technical bulletin that came out against using petroleum jelly. We used to use it when replacing seals to keep them in place when working on the fuel cells. Petroleum jelly does not dissolve in jet fuel which is a high grade kerosene, much like diesel. Try it out….place a blob of it in some diesel, it will just sink to the bottom and sit there. It also calcifies in high heat which will reduce the life of the seal. Use wheel bearing grease instead. I hope that helps. Thanks again for a well done video.

    Thank you so much! I’ve been building hot rods and race cars my whole life, but this was my first HG job on a diesel. I had already purchased the ARP studs and knew most of what the job would consist of, but diesel fuel injectors are new to me so thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

    I haven’t commented on a video quite possibly ever. Thank you very much for this video, unfortunately you should be getting paid more than most of these videos that mean nothing (hear this whistle diesel).
    Only some people know how to explain a process, you sir are one of them. If you ever find yourself in Alaska, let me know if you need anything.
    You helped me immensely on my head gasket replacement.

    When I installed my Rocker Pedestal, one old bolt sheered when torqueing. Luckily, everything is so lubed up and there was enough bolt exposed that I was able to remove it easily. I installed the ARP 247-7201ROCKER PEDESTAL STUD KIT to replace the OEM bolts. It was a pain in the ass as I had to temporarily install a grade 8 bolt until the kit came in. Then I took apart everything again to complete the install.

    One thing I’d add if you mark the back of the harmonic balancer with a paint pen it makes life much easier and imo it gives you a more precise tdc. I marked one of the teeth on the crank shaft sensor ring. There’s a mark on the bottom of the engine to line it up

    Very good work. Great video. Unfortunately I am about to be doing the same job. Just got the truck less than 2wks ago, guy told me it was a great truck, "wouldn't hesitate to drive it to florida tomorrow ". Mmmmhmmmm they all say that 1 line of bs. Damn water pump puked on me on the way home from buyin it, got sorta hot, 240 for literally a few seconds before i shut it down. Now im noticing too much pressure in the coolant system and the overflow is taking on coolant beyond the max line. Had i watched this video first and noticed that you can see if the head has been studded or not before hand, i would be sittin much more happy. Dont buy a truck that has a tuner on it and has been studded. Especially from someone you dont know to be a reputable human. Thanks for a great video. Wish me and my knuckle skin luck.

    Video is great but I frown apon people that use a diegrinder on a gasket surface so important, especially on a surface that already has trouble sealing, Just pure laziness.. its one thing to use on a water pump install or intake if your careful but, on a head gasket surface??? It risky business.
    And to add further you won't warranty your work without a performance related upgrade.
    You should realize the only thing keeping that gasket in check (in regards to coolant and oil) is the film coating on the gasket face and between each layer of the MLS gasket.(most cheap gaskets are a hard coating that are little help in sealing but do ok) just a better gasket is one that has a slightly rubber like thin coating... these are the best at sealing imperfections like what you caused. Most people don't have 500$ for head bolts so sticking with a proper "more professional" habits will get you further.
    Great content good video. Just glad that truck isn't mine

    How much did the milling take off of the head? Did you go back with a standard head gasket or thicker? I can’t seem to find any info on this part of the process.

    You are my hero! I have everything disassembled and I'm currently waiting to get my head back from the machine shop.
    I see in the video you're using a Fel-Pro head gasket (I copied you and got the same one) Just curious though, How has that gasket worked for you? And is there any particular reason you chose that gasket over other gaskets, namely an OEM Cummins gasket?
    Thanks for all of the content you're providing! Keep it up man!

    Have you ever had a issue with the exhaust manifold not lining up? 6.7 cummins. I've been fighting it all day literally. Do they shrink?

    Hey bud, a shop did the truck I own now, they did some kind of copper coat or something and found some copper flakes in the radiator after investigating the cap where it all accumulated. Haven’t found anything since that but is that normal? Guess I’m getting paranoid 😬

    Awesome video about to tackle my 08 6.7 how long did it take to pull and drop the head start to finish not including machine shop turn around time?

      It usually takes me about a half day to remove it and then a full day to put it back together if it goes well. So about 12 hours I guess, but I’ve done lots of them!

    How do you know what thickness of head gasket to put on. I didn't see this addressed in the video.

    What’s the average cost to replace the head gasket with arp studs if everything goes smooth?

    Can you add a parts list. Of all the gaskets and such you needed to get the job done

    Is the removal of injectors and tubes necessary if you're trying to just get your truck on the road again? Can a guy leave those in place, replace the head gasket, set her down and clamp away?

    • @darkirondiesel
      @darkirondiesel  4 роки тому +1

      Well you should never replace a headgasket without sending the cylinder head to a machine shop for pressure test and resurface. But I guess in theory you could do what you are suggesting, although I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. Might as well do the job right the first time in my opinion.

    Did you retorque head studs after a heat cycle? Arp told me its not required but everyone says to do it thanks!

      @darkirondiesel  2 роки тому +1

      No it’s not required unless your planning on building a race truck
