the loss of Thorfinn's innocence gets me every time
I will never watch episode 6 without crying
"It's actually quite different to what I was expecting it to be, 'cos to me it isn't very anime at all"
That's because most of the popular series we associate with being 'anime' are shounen titles. This is a seinen, which targets a different demographic.
Seinen genre is amazing to recommend to people new to anime. And just very captivating in general! Definitely for a more mature audience
What other shows of this genre is there or that you reccomend? @@EmpteeBluffs
@@zak9011 monster, psyco pass and dororo are really good, if you want a more medieval historic ones like vinland saga id say watch golden kamuy or read berserk or vagabond.
I think Vinland Saga is so unique and great exactly because of that. Vinland Saga could still stand on it's own two feet if it were an actual live-action show, without cutting a single scene or line of dialogue. The writing is just that good. I also ADORE how it doesn't fall into any of the pitfall anime stereotypes that's prevalent in most anime. There's no fanservice. There's no filler. There's no unnatural dialogue. It's just beautiful storytelling, with nothing to distract from it.
@@zak9011seinen is not adapted well in anime, but berserk 1999 is a decent one, but better is to read the manga, but pretty close to Vinland Saga is Vagabond manga, it has not been adapted in anime, but the themes are very much like Vinland Saga. Vinland Saga take lots of Christian themes, but Vagabond is more buddhist philosophy influenced, but both are similar genre.
Ubisoft caught a stray
man every time i watch episode 6 it just hits me harder and harder each time, and today is no exception
Especially after the rewatch, it just gets worse
same i love that episode when i first watched it it hittet soooo hard that was also the episode that rly soled me i liked the others they where rly goot too and intresting but Ep 6... was just so amazing still is so amazing.
Peakland time
@remmy3571obviously
@remmy3571what do you mean? The second season is so much worse, feels like a different anime
@remmy3571 no it's not, just because it's deep and there is an ideology behind it, doesnt mean its captivating or interesting. All the characters have become dull and the farm offers nothing besides farmers' dilemmas
@@senders779u have terrible media literacy if thats all u gathered from that. u dont need constant viking dilemmas to understand the character progression and the development of the second season. understandable if u didnt find it as entertaining but to call it so much worse is just objectively wrong
I love the geographical history tid bits throughout the series. It’s a nice touch 🕶️
“But it’s a Ubisoft game” 🤣🤣🤣
The music of this show is just amazing
You need to upload this series more frequently man, I cant wait for you to reach season 2.
I love how seriously this anime takes itself, and how while it has touches of fantastical elements, it doesn’t glorify violence at all. If this writing or script existed for a live action show, your average tv watcher would have no idea it belonged to an anime. It’s just very mature. It’s also very character-centered. Every character is understandable and I love how unlike a lot of anime’s, we aren’t told how to feel, rather we are shown. A lot of the emotional moments of this show actually take place in the absence of words. And this is based only on your reactions, I think I need to watch it for myself because I’m really liking it
The first season is amazing, thought this series was going to be one of my all time favorites, mostly due to the emotional aspects that you've mentioned. I gotta warn you though, the second season is really boring, I cant describe how much it disappointed me
@@senders779your take on season 2 is absolutely horrendous. it’s absolutely the most well written and emotionally resonant part of the whole story so far.
just because something slows down and doesn’t have action doesn’t make it bad.
@@cwega2463 I love slow shows and movies if theyre done right. That second season definitely wasnt done right
@@senders779 go watch some shonen 🤡
@@senders779 what are some slow movies or shows done right then. ones you actually like.
Episode 6 always made me sad. Cant wait untill he gets to 14 which is my favorite of the first season
Ep 14 is also my favourite. Dont see many people mention that as their favourite ngl
@@EmpteeBluffs it's a special episode for sure. It was definitely needed by then based on the show slowing down a bit and muddying who exactly you were rooting for so much. A pivotal just so you remember moment
18 is slightly more impactful for me, but 14 means a lot to this show as well.
@@deeegeeekay Narrative wise id say 18 is the best but i loved the directing in 14
1:05 I thought this too! Then later on in the show they pass “Marlborough”, which is my home town!! 😮
To answer your question regarding the different spoken languages they will typically just have some dialogue like Thorfinn saying he didn't understand English to let the viewer know they aren't speaking the same language. I have never noticed them using different accents to distinguish between the different languages but I also don't speak Japanese so maybe I just can't tell.
Haha I love how you get introduced to a different "kind" of Anime through Vinland Saga, it's a great pick amongst your first couple of Anime :) You don't even realize how deep the Rabbithole goes, but you're starting to get a Feeling - it's awesome and honestly quite nostalgic to see it all unfold for someone else^^ We LOVE our Shonen Anime/Manga like JJK, AoT, One Piece, Naruto, Dragonball ect; but there are Thrillers, Dramas, Comedies and everything else out there - you'd be surprised at the sheer Amount of Series for each Genre in Existence. By now you won't be surprised to hear that many of these are amongst the BEST of Stories these Genres have to offer in all of Media, so buckle up and get ready for a Journey that's most likely going to last your entire Life from now on, and at the End you'll be thankful for it :D I used to get bullied for being a "Weeb" 20 years ago and I love how it became the respected Medium it always deserved to be worldwide today :) However the great Wave of Anime in the West has just started a couple of Years ago and there are MANY more Gems to be discovered by new Fans ! Spread the Love, animated Storytelling ftw and also: ALWAYS watch Sub over Dub (haters gonna hate) :P
every time jon’s background music plays at the start of these videos i always think it’s a Lofi remix of “We Are” from one piece for a few seconds lol
In the German Dub Torfinn is speaking German and the English are just speaking English so there you can clearly tell who is from where. I think in the japanese version there is just dialogue to let you know
one thing to note, vinland saga sits in a 'category' (for lack of better words) called seinen which targets an 18+ demographic. Stories sitting here usually are quite like vinland saga, or off the rails insanity (gantz).
Glad you are reacting to this anime, you are in for a treat..// found your channel by your last jjk video// when todo ripped off his shirt you said "me after trt" and that's was funny
What you said at 20:00 is so exciting. You're gonna love this anime, I'd even go so far as to say this and AOT is a hard pick between which I love more. You'll love the themes in this show a lot.
My gf and I watched this together after I had watched it and she quit after this episode because she couldnt stop crying, and it only get more emotionally impactful from here
We haven't had wolves in the UK for like 500 years, best we have is Badgers lmao
7:00 this scene really hit hard for me, way too real
Man, in case you are looking for new series to react there is one called tanya of the evil. I think is a good one even tough there is only 1 season and a film
Pretty cool your doing some geological knowledge on a guy like me that's in California
Valhalla starts off in Norway, not Iceland
next vid is gonna be best girl!!!!!
Yeah, its a proper drama show that uses anime as a medium.
jon should watch quintessential quintuplets tbh. think it’s right up his alley fr
💀💀
Oh what a trip that would be 🙏🏽😭
