You are by far the most interesting teacher on voice matters on UA-cam. Solid knowledge, no empty theatrics (even though there is a fascinating amount of entertaining humor that serves to teach), and I'm something of a compulsive geek so your clarity and ability to articulate exactly what you mean and from different approaches is very appealing to me.
I have this tendency of liking her videos even before watching the full video because you know her content is so good and her energy is awesome (second to none), you never get bored with each lesson and super easy to follow even if you're not a good singer yet
@@Victoria-Victorious you're welcome but we should be thanking you instead! I keep running back to your channel if i have trouble with singing especially technically. God I wish I knew this stuff 10 years ago!!! It would have saved me developing some bad habits and fatiguing my voice so many times... Now I think of my voice as having 4 "gears" almost like the transmission in a car, each gear allowing you to achieve a higher speed (pitch) but giving you less torque (thickness/power). You can choose which "gear" to use at any given time but of course trying to hit 100mph in 1st is just going to be painful and damaging, while trying to crawl along at 10 in 4th will cause you to struggle and have no power. Knowing how and when to use what gear, as well as how to change gear (transition) smoothly is the art of becoming a good singer.
Glad to hear it! Make sure that you watch my other videos and do the exercises in the Mixed Voice playlist. Mixed Voice Made Easy! ua-cam.com/play/PLaWjWxiTysDCCsBgnhWjfRRAWIPflxZp1.html
Victoria, I’m an adult whose been taking vocal lessons for 6 months and have never really sung before that. Your videos have been a phenomenal addition to my lessons. There’s still so much I’m unsatisfied with, but thank you for always sharing these easy to understand tips and bringing so much energy to your videos! Going to try my best to keep improving. (Also, I was excited to find you’re also based around the Bay Area! 😄)
I just noticed that I keep lifting my shoulders up when I go into higher notes which causes big problems.... I kept a close eye on your body, and how it acts when performing high notes, you stay calm and relaxed with your shoulders at the same level. This tiny thing helped me go into head voice without going into falsetto or straining and killing the tone... When you said in a previous video that the body should be anchored down on the ground especially when singing high I didn't really include my shoulders in the process. Now I fully understand!
As a woman with a richer voice, I found the exercises on chest voice and chest blend a little easier. I did some head blending, which was a bit challenging. Once upon a time I was trained in classical, and I was all up in my head 😂 Can't do that like I use to.
Sure. Remember that most men will spend the majority of their time in chest mix, only going to head mix for a particular style. Women (pop singers) generally have to learn both.
What you are really asking about is style. Much of this depends on the sound you want. You can choose to sing in chest mix or head mix and alter style with diction and resonance. I recommend that you watch my other 2 videos on mix if you have not already. Then you can follow with my videos on resonance.
Hello, thank you so much for all your videos. I have been working on them daily and can already hear improvements in my voice. I'm a baritone with a passaggio on an E4 and a head voice which is only usable above a C5. That said, I really want to sing a song which would involve singing an Bb5 in a chest blend or something that could pass as one. Can I realistically learn to do this without screaming or straining or am I wasting my time? I'm asking because every voice teacher I've asked in person has said that because I'm a baritone, I shouldn't go above a middle C. I really want to learn to sing high notes healthily and get rid of the gap in my voice, I am more than prepared to put in the time and the effort but no one I know seems to think that it's a possibility
If your singing teacher is telling you to not sing above a C5 then they are likely just trying to keep you extra safe. In all reality, I would tell you to disregard them i that note. Baritones have a passaggio around F4 and from what I have seen at some point in their life, they have a clicking moment that allows the to start building their mixed. What I would recommend is focus on belting higher notes cleaner in chest and learning to mix the chest voice between C4 and E4 without strain. When working to get rid of strain, make sure to always make as many variables in your voice as consistent and relaxed as possible. First thing is a relaxed full breath, second would be getting as comfortable as you can with one troublesome belt or higher part in a song. This will eliminate overthinking if you are trying to focus on too many aspects on top of playing piano or reading music. Make as many things muscle memory and mess around with your throat muscles and tone till you find less strain. I used to have a gap in my falsetto that would eliminate any note close to the f4 of the top of my chest range. I wasn’t able to *attempt* to learn mix, or cheat my way through high notes because my falsetto only worked above a C5 like you and some notes lower. I can’t tell you exactly what to do, but try to see if you have some completely disconnected falsetto notes that overlaps some of your chest voice’s range. If so, you can work on bringing them higher into that gap, and fading in and out between your full chest and that lighter falsetto thing. If you crack between the two and start to “yodel” with two seperate notes, try to align the pitches of the registers by adjusting your embouchure, larynx, and throat positions so that you can keep one note as you fade between the two registers. Idk.🤷♂️

The problem I have is WHAT to apply. Like when im singing and going up to the difficult note, do I use a higher chest blend? Or a lower head blend? Especially if the note is at a break. I still havent found a proper answer.
It always depends on the sound YOU want. If you have trouble with your "break", see my PLAYLIST: Passaggio (Vocal Bridge) - HOW TO NAVIGATE THROUGH IT SMOOTHLY! ua-cam.com/play/PLaWjWxiTysDAsuVFcVCRgX8xhNx7u4Qsw.html
Seems that the location of the resonance moves with the pitch? So to get any particular blend... is it not a matter of selecting the range of pitches... So in a sense don't I have no choice at all? If I sing an on key pitch in some given range... it ends up resonating where it does, and I cannot really alter that?
@@Victoria-Victorious OK will do... still struggling with the fact that a lot of male pop and rock vocalists sing way higher than my natural singing voice... but then I can't sing at all... trying to learn about it.
Without hearing or seeing you, I cannot answer for sure. When I have heard croaking and a cracking sound in singers, it has usually been imbalance in coordination - either not enough airflow or the vocal folds are too loose - something that is not allowing the vocal folds to vibrate freely. I recommend humming and lip trills and then applying to vowels. I do that a lot in some of my videos. Find & Develop Your True Voice! Hey I loved your video😍. I have a doubt wether we should lighten up our mix the higher we belt. Is it different for men and women. And also does belting with chesty mix voice cause any problems?
Yes, even in belting and chesty mix, the vocal folds need to thin out. We cannot get away from that, BUT the changes are very small. When done correctly, the voice feels easier on the inside while sounding big and boomy on the outside (due to resonance and good breath support). This is healthy, as opposed to straight shouting and pushing. Watch my video on belting.

If you can sing what’s up by 4 non blondes …you have mastered mixed voice. I am not amongst the masters 😂
Could you show us how you blend. Because what this video does is show us that you can blend but doesn’t give us guide lines or tests to know if we are blending
I have 7 videos on Mixed Voice. In the description of this video, it says: This video was part 1 where we did mixed voice exercises in speech. Here is Part 2 where we apply to singing! ua-cam.com/video/3wfGp1d4U2Y/v-deo.html. Once you are comfortable with the first 2 videos, you can go on to Still Confused About Chest Mix vs Head Mix?" ua-cam.com/video/R8IRVpfgfr4/v-deo.html. Here is my full PLAYLIST on MIXED VOICE: Mixed Voice Made Easy! ua-cam.com/play/PLaWjWxiTysDCCsBgnhWjfRRAWIPflxZp1.html Hope that helps!
Is saying 'chest blend' supposed to help me get mixed voice ? lol .
Of course not! If you are just thinking of just saying the words, you did not understand the video. I recommend watching it again. I get beginning students to understand mix in the first lesson.
you are cool and rock hard
Thank you again! :)
I have a question about my voice. www.dropbox.com/s/xo9anun7fxt62l7/Mixed.wav?dl=0
This is very terrible voice but was that mixed? And if so, how do I strengthen?
If you would like a video review of your singing, please go to my website and follow the instructions there: www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/
❤
I'm sorry but I can't physically do the Chest Blend😭
Don't you speak in chest blend? You probably do.
I please put the technique excersise
All the teachers just explain
See my playlist on Mixed Voice. I have lots of exercises in the videos.
'😘🍸🍦Let's get it on " mmm
If I could just ''find'' my chest blend I wouldn't be looking for a lesson.
Perhaps you just need a private lesson. Most singers that I have worked with find their chest blend easily through the speaking exercises, then they can apply it to singing.
Confusing
Do you have a specific question? Mixed Voice is very confusing to a lot of singers.
