Pulling the engine bolts is the easiest way I’ve seen and used to change my belt.!! Great tip. Instead of lifting the engine from above, I was able to slide it back 1/2 inch. Belt slid right on and I was able to just slide the engine back forward and bolt it down. I also stated my belt from the back through he pulleys. With the engine slid back it went right over front pulley. Thanks for this tip. Xcellent

Ty young man. Im going to replace mine soon as soon as I get the belt. I'm a 54 yr old female and appreciate your tutorial. You have helped greatly. Ive already had the deck off before to replace a deck pulley and replace the junk blades that came on it. I totally agree with you. I hate cub cadet. I will never buy one ever again when I have to replace.

Best Vid for showing new belt routing. NOTE: belt goes to the right of the steering column, as shown here.

Thank you so much Farmer Ryan! I heard it was a nightmare changing this drive belt but your instructions were so clear that even a beginner mechanic like me understood. My fiancé and I installed the belt in about 30 minutes thanks to you!

What about the shaft for the steering wheel? Do you simply place the belt to one side or the other? Only way to get belt on each side is to pull the steering wheel, correct?

@@MGoBlue100belt goes on left side of steering rod. It’s much easier to take pulley off of bottom of engine. It could fall off when you remove bolt or it may be extremely hard but I would try that before doing what this gentleman did.

Eh to think outside the box! I hit a bit of a wall. That bolt holding the pulleys would not budge but unbolting the engine worked like a charm.
    Thank you so much!!👍😁

Farmer Ryan ,I liked your video and I’m gonna try to do the same thing on a piece of crap cub I have ,which is the same model. I’m not sure how long these lawnmowers are supposed to last mine does have almost 700 hours on it. I have already replaced both deck spindles and the stopper system for them And quite a few other items. Thanks again. Really Can’t afford to buy a new one tractor, especially now.

Thanks for the tips - especially the engine bolts part. That saved me a bunch of time replacing the transmission belt for the LTX-1045. The only thing different from your video was the pulley guard around the rear transmission / fan pully. I ended up bending that thin metal away slightly to get the belt in and then bending it back into place. I used a Stens 265-213 from an amazon purchase for this job.

I ‘ve been going through all of these from everyone. Each is a little different. It amazing to me how after all these years and all the engineering that this is the best idea they could come up with. It's kinda like they said about the Air Force a long time back. Designed by engineers. Flown by college graduates maintained by high school drop outs.

I didnt have any trouble getting the motor bolts out, but I did have issues trying to get the belt on the upper pulley. I took a floor jack and put it on the bottom pulley and lifted the motor up, then I could easily put the belt back on and ease the motor down. You are correct about there not being anything else attached to the motor deck except for the four bolts, funny how the exhaust wasn't bolted down. (a bonus for sure). Once I had the front on, I did take the time to take the rear fan out and pull the pulley up and put the belt on that way, its a locking nut and I used a Makita impact drill to take the nut off, cleaned the fan, put the belt on and then replaced the fan. Oh before I forget, you didn't say anything about the parking brake having to be on, until you disengaged it, and putting the parking brake on makes putting the belt on way easier. I was about 3 hours on the entire project. Just took my time and did it right.. thanks so much for your GENIUS idea.. it worked Great!

I have a Cub Cadet 1554 and replaced the drive belt last year with a new Cub Cadet belt but it has shredded already. Someone suggested to bend the steel tabs back to get the new belt on the drive shaft pulley but that was not easy last year so I might try moving the engine. The drive shaft pulley is supposed to slide down the shaft to get the new belt on but it is seized up on the shaft and won’t move probably because anti-seize lubricant was not put on at the factory.

Good video. Last belt change on my LT1050, I cut part way thru the belt retaining fins to make them easier to bend out of the way. I wonder if those are even necessary on the LT1050, which keeps the belt in tension at all times. I may try your method next time and/or grind off those fins entirely. I actually used my engine lift to raise the front of the mower.
Your mower was awfully clean. Pre-cleaning the mower is always a good idea and use safety glasses or goggles to keep debris out of your eyes. Chock those tires.

I do think the cooling fin is gonna be something Great Uncle is gonna want back on HIS machine . just sayin ; not yours, put it back the way you got it . Otherwise appreciated the option of loosening the engine to help get the pulley back on . Good Video .

Yea, probably should put that back on, it's somewhere. The transmission ran low on fluid and currently doesn't work, I've got it in my garage to fix at some point, but I've got a old Murray and a Craftsman Garden tractor that I'm using to cut grass and maintain the property.

I like mine too. It's almost 20 years old and still runs and mows good, but I did have to replace the deck because of rust. I had a parts one laying around, and used the deck off of it. It has 325 hours on it at this moment. You might also need to purge the air out of the hydrostatic drive by putting it in standby mode and pressing forward and reverse for about ten seconds, and do that 3 to 5 times the put it back in drive mode. Otherwise it could start getting slow especially in reverse.

You have an impact gun,why didn't you just remove the bolt to the engine pulley and drop the pulley a couple inches, put the belt on the upper pulley, push the pulley back up and tighten bolt? Much easier to remove one bolt than the four engine bolts.

@@FarmerRyan-dl3rb With an impact the bolt will come out without spinning the motor. The next issue you may run into is the pulley coming off.If you can get it off, apply some anti-seize to the shaft before putting the pulley back on so it will come off with ease the next time. Good luck.
