Silent Hunter III is a fantastic U-Boat sim that I massively recommend. Especially with the "Grey Wolves" expansion.

SH3 is still one of the best Submarine games ever made.
Easy to operate interface, amazing difficulty features, nice graphics for the time it came out and can still be updated with mods, interesting missions that can have you frustrated one minute and intensely "cat-and-mouse" the next, and both somehow relaxing on cruises but heart-stopping in action.
Never made Career past '43.
I would leave game running through the night sleeping next to it on a futon. Full boat atmospheric mods chattering away. Happy Days - dead crews. 👍🏻
@@46metube I like to play the campaign with surface ships mod...It´s so nice that noone ever bothered to update the AI in the game...so,even if you come at them with Bismarck,they still act like you are a surfaced sub :D

For years my dad played the SHIT out of this game. I swear he had 100's of hours.
Man knew it inside and out what was going on where and when. He replayed every scenario dozens of times over.
He fired the torpedo as magnetic... it reset to impact when he clicked on the tube again with his mouse.
I spent my entire childhood playing this

It may only be 32 seconds long, but I'm pretty glad you made a video on this game. I caught the stream where you were in a convoy, got a hit on a cargo vessel, spotted a bogue class behind said cargo ship, tried to sink it, failed, and died as you were trying to escape, from about 2 weeks ago, now. That stream is the very reason I bought Silent Hunter 3 the very next day. I plan to stream it on my twitch channel soon. All because I opened twitch for the first time in a while, and joined your stream.
To the people who complained the last video essay was too long, this is what we get, not uploading over a minute. Hope you guys are happy. 🤣😶
Who complains about long video essays? I was sad I couldn't warch it because I'm obsessive about going into things blind.
Silent Hunter III gameplay summarised: Spend hours transiting to a search area. Then spend even more hours zig zagging up and down a grid square trying to find a convoy. Then crash dive as an enemy aircraft flies past. If you’re lucky, you get to sink a 1 ton fishing boat. Spend hours sailing back to port.
What I learnt from Silent Hunter III is how tediously boring being a submariner must have been, then you get killed by an aircraft dropping a depth charge.
There’s nothing quite like unexpected success.
Love this series. There is something about it that just clicks and one day you just are able to sink entire convoys in one volley. You just drift sideways and open every tube and you get 8 torps in 8 engines. Just a masterpiece of a series.

Womble, holy fuck, you just reawakened an old memory of mine that has been a fuzzy blur for years. My dad, before he passed, had Silent Hunter 2, and he had little child me playing it along with him. He even let me have my own save file and playthrough on my own. I've been trying to remember this game for YEARS. Thank you, brother.

I strongly recommend learning how to use TDC and draw your own fire solutions on the charts, it is an insanely satisfying experience and will enhance your immersion even further! Good luck hunting!
Nothing as satisfying as getting a successful manual TDC hit, feels like the biggest of big brain moments !

If you watch the settings closely, they always reset to default when the torpedo launches, you did in fact have it set to magnetic influence!

The same feeling when you shooting at Worms, especially when you're affected by the wind. You go from "oh hell i messed up again" to "damn son look at that perfect shot" in an instant....or viceversa
This brought back fond memories of watching my grandpa play. I never could comprehend it, but he'd let me push the big red Fire button. :)
