    Hopefully you see this question but I think it is relevant to this video and rather odd... I run a couple small dehumidifiers to a drain but was thinking of saving a large portion of the water they take out of the air to use for watering my plants. It wouldnt be the only source of water but could make up a decent portion. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @Just4Growers

      Steve Byers Thanks Steve. As I said in "Humidity 101" - it's a sort of "conflict of needs" that larger, mature plants transpire more and contribute more to grow room humidity, just at the point when you need it to be lower! It catches a lot of growers out, as does CO2. The importance of maintaining adequate air movement (i.e. oscillating fans) is often underestimated by new growers too.

  • @christopherj5780

    I can see a dehumidifyer for larger spaces than a 2x2. Im using couple smaller fans to push air in and pull air out, a small chemical co2 generator. Im wondering would using damp rid help with the Rh? Sure its more work but im trying to use low tech for high tech results. This grow im doing started because i scored a 150w hps ready to grow light.

    its the opposite problem for me. when i take my plants out of the propogator, the humidy drops to 30-40% ive had real trouble trying to fix this and ended up just watchin them suffer in the end. the leaves kept curling sideways at the tip and it looked like they were wilting,
    the rate of growth was also very poor. it seems that they dont like low humidity and high heat.

    Another stellar submission from Everest! Excess humidity can be avoided in small rooms by switching from HID to LED, less IR helps lower room temperatures and mean plants transpire way less, go through less nutrient solution and less attractive to bugs and molds. This can help offset initial cost of upgrading to LED, I suggest MCOB grow lights, the newest (and coolest running) LED technology.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 років тому

      Robbie Dang I'll definitely be getting busy with LEDs in the next phase Robbie!

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  9 років тому

      Robbie Dang And yes, you are right-less radiated heat will mean cooler temps and less transpiration. However, I feel that I should also point out for any novice growers out there that transpiration is the driving force for growth too! In fact, some LED growers have to supplement heat with a fan heater to achieve their desired results. All growers want healthy transpiration rates and this, in turn, requires us to remove the resulting humidity-we don't want to lower transpiration in order to reduce humidity as it is a natural plant process.

    For a very small soil grow, would pH'd water from a dehumidifier be a good source of "flushing" water? It wouldn't have the additives of municipal water supply.

      +Stay Cool Hello amigo, no need to flush with soil, just feed regular water - yes, the purer the better - dehum water sometimes picks up heavy metals from the pipes so I would recommend distilled or just leave your tap water to sit for 24 hrs before using it.

      +tv76g hi TV76g -- use a humidifier to get RH to 40 - 50 in flower and 60 - 65 in veg. Failing that, lower the strength of your nutrient solution by 20% to counteract the high vapor pressure deficit that high temperatures and low RH causes.

    @Everest Fernandez Really appreciate how helpful these videos are, you are a great teacher. I was just wondering, since I'm growing in a really humid environment (Miami) in a sealed shed outside, should I use closed system or open system ventilation. I plan on running CO2 and using a small dehumidifier and AC that I got online. Also, please start a Patreon, I'd love to support your channel. Thanks!!!

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  5 років тому +1

      DJBioMusic Thanks amigo. You should run a closed sealed system, as well insulated as humanly possible, with AC and CO2. Remember to stop dosing CO2 an hour before lights out and then exchange the air in the room once before lights out. Don’t underestimate the load on your dehumidifier in a climate like yours. But you’ll do it with the right tools buddy.

    how does the process change when using LED's? I just bought a PlatinumLED P1200.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  8 років тому

      +juicyjumbler Hi JJ-the process does not change significantly with LEDs. LEDs put out a lot of convection heat (rather than infrared) which still needs to be dealt with by your garden's ventilation system, as does the moisture transpired by your plants. If they are growing at the same rate as normal, you will need to replace depleted CO2 at the same rate too. Best of luck with your new lighting fixture.

    Is the supplemental CO2 just a nessicary component of sealing the grow room, or do high CO2 levels also help the plant manage the high humidity by increasing photosynthesis or something?

  • @ObiWanCannabi
    @ObiWanCannabi Рік тому

    hey you did make a VPD too low video all along..
    so it begs the question, if you can't control the environment perfectly is it better to slow down and possibly starve her of more sugars, or do you crank up the lights to try to get her transpiring at that more normal rate,
    Say you dial into 50% and you spend a week at 65% you can get the same amount of water coming thru the plant if you can get that leaf temperature difference to increase. So cranking more light into the plant makes some sense right? an extra feed, increased airflow, and plan ahead for the weather conditions that will really limit your chances and you should be able to keep up with the weather fluctuations that come with summer growing.

    Hey Ev, you say how important VPD is, then you give a range of humidity...without temperature. VPD should be between 8 and 10 (google VPD chart). That is, at 65% relative humidity, room temperature should be 20-23*C. At 28*C, rH should be between 70-75% (wow). Also, molds proliferate if the room has large temperature swings, which creates condensation.

      Grow room humidity, especially in ventilated rooms, will inevitably take their baseline humidity from the ambient surroundings. When bigger extraction fans just aren’t cutting it (because ambient RH is already high) you need to tackle the problem head on - and for high humidity in your grow room when all around you is more high humidity, oh goody indeed you need a dehumidifier. And you’d better oversize it.

      He can't monetize a medical grow because of YT T.O.S. He can't even mention it. UA-cam self censors by attacking content creators. He made so much money from youtube that he can afford a ridiculous electricity bill to grow tomatoes along with his weed. If you put yourself in his situation you'd get why he did this. He isn't stupid UA-cam's policy is stupid.

      +Everest Fernandez (Just4Growers) IMO you have made a video that has pause, stop and rewind. If someone doesn't get it at first they can use those attributes to the video. If you slow down, your video will be much longer and may not be able to fit all your info. ; you're doing great !

    • @jonslg240
      @jonslg240 7 років тому +3

      Everest Fernandez yeah, I definitely appreciate the fast pace of your videos. It's like an article that reads itself to you more quickly than you're able to read it, letting you absorb the info better and quicker, while providing video and audio to "see" what they're "saying". There are too many long, drawn out, non concise videos out there chock full of the same info @ 4 - 10x the duration for people who don't like it.

    Don't know why he had to talk so fast. Has someone bet him he can't say it all within s certain time limit or something? Really snnoying. Would it really be that bad to actually just speak at a normal speed but your video being a minute or so longer??

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  6 років тому +1

      TheMrmoonlight Thanks for the feedback MrMoonlight. Didn’t mean to snnoy you. If you’re watching on a computer you can try adjusting the playback speed by clicking on the cog icon and selecting X.75 playback - apparently it makes me sound deceptively and convincingly normal. Happy growing. Everest.
