      Geoffrey Keezer has some nice things to say about Art Blakey, in an interview elsewhere on youtube.

    I love it when a musician goes all out. It takes a certain amount of courage and sometimes they miss what they're trying to do but it is very interesting even when they only come close. I only tried it a few times when I was 40 years younger and my hands were stronger but I still admire the guys (and gals) who give it everything. I liked the young Geoffrey Keezer solo on this tune.

    damn, geoffrey keezer! just read ethan iverson's interview with him on iverson's do the math page, and the things keezer had to say about the art blakey gig (and how he first got hired for it) are really interesting. the way keezer plays the head and his solo (!!) are both amazing here.

    Keezer is playing a Bosendorfer. Oscar Peterson used to play a Bosendorfer because they had models with 92 keys. I can’t tell if this is the standard 88 or the 92.

    Anyone catch the Lee Morgan quote at the end of the trumpeter's solo? Lovely nod of respect. Does anyone know who the trumpeter in this video is?

  • @Geepereet
    @Geepereet  15 років тому

    Thanks, I'll add it to the info. He made me think of Benny Green a bit (also the play) but knew it was wrong, the trumpet makes me think of Lew Soloff but also that ain't correct, thanks again ;-)

    LOL, ok, I'm 53 which may look like old but beware, I feel like 30. I know such a pro from my youth because my parents did like quite a lot of different music from their own youth. Names like Lionel Hamton, Satchmo, Astrud Gilberto, Dizzy Gillespie, Glenn Miller etc. I'm still very happy they influenced my taste or knowledge by then. Art Blakey may look a bit funny but he did reach a very respectable age already in this vid and he belongs imo to one of those pro's of the funders of good music.

      I think he impressed the veterans in the group. Blakey seemed to like it. A good leader always wants his players to excel.
