Benny Green. Age 25. Awesome. He had all the early training starting at 7 years old, then, Berkley School of Music. Never heard a bad player that came out of Berkley.
Perhaps you mean Berklee, the school of music in Boston? Berkeley University is general education institute across the bay from San Francisco. Easy to confuse the two.
just finished sakamichi no apollon and enjoyed every moment. too bad i seem to be the only one around my friends who likes herself some fine jazz every now and then
One of the greatest hard-bop Jazz tunes ever and composed by Bobby Timmons. The last time i saw - The Messengers - was at a live gig was in 80/81, in Holland with a (very) young Wynton Marsalis. I really do like a bone-player in the formation and reminds me when the best of bone players Curtis Fuller played with them. This jammin’ session in Japan is a blast!! Great great Jazz folks Dig & Cheers!
gian paolo Puglisi This is not that "Moanin'". This one was written by Bobby Timmons one of the Jazz Messengers during the 1950's. He also wrote "Tis Here" and "Dat Dare"
Tevita Teulilo and that can occasionally happen, and can lead to a kind of echoing effect caused by people clapping at different time. Even worse than the annoying clapping
At least they can clap on 2 and 4 in japan.
So true!!
Have you ever tried to teach a white audience to clap on 2 and 4? Impossible--
@@erdwest Fr lmao
😅😅
It's especially hard on that song. I had trouble finding the two and four of the intro as a drummer since they punch on 3 and the and of 4.
Art Blakey's mentoring and introducing young talent is overlooked part of his legacy. Man was a true bandleader in the highest sense.
Yes! Remember, Winton cut his teeth in this band.
Terrific playing all round, lovin the trombone!
Man, that trombone solo spilled the juice!!!!!!!
That trumpet awoke me from my sleep, it feels so weird yet fulfilling
Benny Green giving off some authentic Bobby Timmons vibe in his solo. Nice tribute.
Art Blakey, eternally grateful to you.
Wow. Piano solo was great!
That trumpet solo started out hot as hell and then his chops started dying on him, goddamn that first chorus tho.
on god bruh
Timing can be really hard in outdoor concert like that. The engineers are a lot better now. This was 1988. He has plenty of chops.
@@DuffyNightingale I am afraid that Philip Harper always had problems like this. Kicks as they call it. And he has just to many.
@@peterantheunis9462 Kicks? Interesting. Maybe that good first bunch was memorized?
@@peterantheunis9462 What are kicks?
They're very good and very cool.
I am Japanese and I pray music.
I want to become like them.

What does this mean
Sakamichi no apollon (Kids on the Slope) is an anime that heavily focuses on Jazz. Really great plot and awesome music!
That trumpeter definitely listened to a lot a of Lee Morgan, I wonder how he sounds now.
Aora Blue well, I played with him last week, he still sounds great altought he was pretty baked
The first time I heard Lee Morgan was on this song on the original here..blown away

Philip Harper. Incredible
It would have been interesting to know what Art Blakey thought playing this song and thinking back to Lee Morgan (trumpet) and Bobby Timmons (piano).
That’s crazy, how he played it so long ago and here is now playing the same song with completely new members

It's really swinging! Thanks for uploading this gem!
I love this so much.
Great tune. Thanks for the upload!
This is superb! On a more humorous note, I love Benny Green’s shoulders when he plays.
Superbe version!!!
What a sound the Old Master had care, it's simply beautiful !
Wonderful

Awesome
8分38秒くらいのところで、雨が降り出したせいかブレーキさんが舞台袖の人たちに何か言ったり指示を出したりしていますがとても優しそうな人で好印象でした。演奏も素晴らしかった

Funny, Javon used to tell me all about these dates. Boy, he looks mad young (30 years ago).
That's a masterclass from Art in how to swing the quarter note!

The trumpet!!!!!!!!!!!
The maker of kids on the slope must've been there that day. Just watch episode one and you'll understand.

Did he make a reference or is it a coincidence?

Philip Harper
First version with Horace Silver is far far better ...
You mean Bobby Timmons?
@@sequoyahcisneros8719 Yes, you're right!!
this concert sounds like it was disappointing lol
Ugh.... The audience ruins this completely!!! It takes then three claps before they get out of time :-(
What audience doesn't?
And that ruins this how? The artists are doing a hell of a good job up there regardless and I believe the audience CANT take away from that
The clapping ruins it.
How it pretty much playa like a metronome.
NeOn It could have ruined the timing if the drummer intended a different tempo
deathpresent101 an annoying one at that

手拍子が邪魔
The trumpet player was just trying too hard to impress. A bit juvenile!
Stop bloody clapping
