    I feel like these types of tutorials are better in a way. Most drummers don't know or care about the "lingo". It just makes it easier to say "hit this thing here". Keep up the good work my friend.

    i knew somebody was going to comment about counting it out, I'm glad you explained it the way you did, I always find it easier to understand if someone just explains what they are doing, it saves a lot of time, and I think most drummers playing this style of music would agree.

    maybe you should record tutorials before during or after the cover of the same song it would make the recording 10min longer and allow you to upload the cover with a tutorial video at the same time. even if it forces you to post less covers i think i would worth it for drummers willing to learn hard songs and even for you if you can monetize these tutorial.
    my suggestion would be a raining blood update in the new format + the tutorial :)
    (with the correct bass drum pattern at ~1:20 on the isolated drum track you can find on youtube, i don't think you can hear it on the full song)

    would you ever do a tutorial on basic double bass techniques? I've been playing the set for about 2 years, and I'm very limited on how fast I can do any quarter or eighth notes on double bass. My speed limit is around 100 bpm doing straight eighth notes, and no matter how long I spend each day doing constant eighth notes I can't exceed that limit.

    If you understand how to count music, explaining how you play something would be way easier. Counting music is super simple. If you are counting quarter notes, there are 4 quarter notes in a bar and you count them like this: 1,2,3,4. Simple. Counting eighth notes goes like this: 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & (there are 8 eighth notes in a bar). And finally to count sixteenth notes, you count them like this: 1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a (there are 16 sixteenth notes in a bar). Just to clarify, eighth notes are double the speed on quarter notes, and sixteenth notes are double the speed on eighth notes.
    With that being said, when you are playing the chorus, you are hitting the china on 1, ride on 2, hi hats on the & of 2, china and snare on 3, ride on 4, and hi hats on the & of 4.
    Hopefully this makes sense and will help you explain things easier. Keep up the amazing drumming.

    • @joshsteffen
      @joshsteffen  9 років тому +1

      I know all about that. When I learn myself I don't do that so I explain it in similar terms. Honestly how is saying that any better? I'm doing that.

    • @6Blood6runner6
      @6Blood6runner6 9 років тому

      +Josh Steffen I get where you are coming from. It just seems simpler and easier to explain when counting music, but maybe that's just because that is what I know and am used to.

      Josh Steffen I had both, and I sell the belt pedal some time ago, but also Works fine, not very different of chain feeling. Eliminator is sturdy pedals.

    that middle part where your hitting the crashes in between that snare roll you dont actually alternate hands, if you watch jay play it live he uses one hand on the same crash and the other on the snare....
    not here to judge. everyone plays it different. just saying thats how jay plays it.

      +Murderp that's interesting. I'd assume the snare impact is decreased that way. I encourage people to do what seems best for them. Jay included

      i thought the same thing too... i guess he just hits really hard on those notes. either that or he plays it different from the studio.
      btw: since i have your attention, i was always wondering: how do you stay consistent when doing those really fast double bass parts (where you basically run on the pedals) ive been drumming for a long time and have always struggled with that.
