i wish i had a great mom like you... my mother never taught me anything & did everything for me because only she claimed onle she knew how to do it "right". cut my meals for me, clipped my nails for me, picked my clothes, cleaned my room... the result was that at 21 i couldn't cook or clean for myself. imagine being an adult that doesn't know how to do laundry - that was me - i know it sounds crazy but i swear this was my reality. i felt deeply ashamed and it took a lot of time to learn everything on my own. to this day there are moments when i realize i don't know how to do some simple thing and i get so embarrassed. i grew up to be self conscious, lazy, anxious and unmotivated. life is a daily battle. i have so much respect for you and i know your kids will grow up to be amazing people. if all parents were like you there wouldn't be unhappy children in this world. take care xx
My boyfriend's mom is the same way with his 15 yr old sister and she has such low self esteem because of it but refuses to believe its her fault and gives her antidepressants instead. She even got mad at my bf for letting her walk to the McDonald's with his 12 yr old son when its literally a 5 minute walk, she also got mad at him for letting her use our oven among other things. But yeah poor girl can't do anything on her own and is completely dependant on her mom
Dude I’m 30 and have just had a kid of my own. I don’t know how to do anything either my parents did everything for me. And Mums helping me with my newborn because I’m pretty shit at that too. Helicopter parents
I think you shouldn't blame your Mom for caring for you. You just had to watch her and imitate. You had time to focus on other things like your future goals. Move past blame and onto your future and be proud of what you've accomplished. Most kids don't remember these toddler years.
@@MyMonkeyMinions It's not so much about what you remember and what you don't. It's how you were SHAPED during those few years when your brain was developing and literally being "wired." Whether you were shaped to be be independent and self-confident or dependent and unsure of yourself, that becomes your "default" for the rest of your life. You can work past it, but it takes constant effort. It's so much better if you were simply "shaped" with positive intention from the start.

One of my favorite memories is following my dad around the house with a measuring cup. He would pour water in the cup and I got to water the plants!
I don’t have a kid.. I’m not pregnant... and I don’t plan on it for 2-3 more years 🤷🏻♀️.... love this channel for some reason... I’m gonna know everything over the next few years 😂
My partner and I really want to raise our future kids with a Montessori philosophy, I already knew about Montessori but your channel really shows me how great it can be in the home, not just in daycare
Toddlers are also capable of ripping lettuce for salads or even practicing knife skills by using a plastic lettuce knife to cut lettuce (bonus: it gives them the feeling of using a big knife).
My parents made me throw my own diapers away. I even know a little girl who is being extra stubborn about the potty thing (though, she's going through a rough time with daddy being away for work), but she'll change her own pull-ups.

I watched your Montessori discipline video and this video today and I applied it all day today and I see a HUGE change in my daughter!!!!! She’s been sooo sweet and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your videos. I am definitely adapting to this new way of teaching and discipling as I HATE the “traditional” way most of us were raised (including me) of yelling and screaming and stress. This has helped sooooo much! 💕💕💕💕💕

I’m obsessed with your channel!! I won’t have kids for at least a couple more years, but all of this is so eyeopening!
I taught my kids at 4 years old to separate laundry into like colors for the laundry to be washed. They know lights, darks/brights, jeans, whites. They have been feeding our 4 dogs for a few years and we have them pump in the liquid glucosamine also. If they spill anything they clean it up. My son has been helping with cooking and dishes since he was 4. My daughter doesn't show interest in those things yet, but she focuses on larger tasks with her other older brother much better than her other brother that is only a year older. We have 2 5 year olds that live with us and one 5 year old that lives with his mom and visits, and a 13 year old. Our kids have to wash their hands and face after every meal or snack. All food stays at the table or bar top, they have to hang up their napkin (we use cloth and reuse), push in their chair, and they have to get the small step ladder and rinse their dishes and stack them... And put the ladder away. Our son that visits is always so amazed with what the other two can do and he works very hard to learn everything. We just pick up where we left off the last time he was over. Our kids bathe themselves in the shower and we just watch to see how well they are doing and go over areas we thinking they need to learn how to do a little better. All three of the young kids have three different learning levels and speeds and we hold them all accountable, but work with them at their individual rate. One can let our dogs in and out... Which isn't something the other two can do yet even though they are all the same age for a couple of months. We have two dogs that stay separated and he's paid very close attention. They bring all their laundry upstairs to the laundry room and they help collect the rest. They also wipe off the dining room table and help with the older boy's chores. They even help vacuum...I just check the floor beforehand. One of my sons kept coming home with sand in his boots from the playground so he has to dump them out in the yard and vacuum up any mess that may have been made before he did that. He gets the vacuum out, pushes it through the house on his own and I help plug it in although he has done it on his own.... We have serious safety lessons about the outlets and what can happen. He's actually excited to clean up these messes. Two of the kids have been refilling their cups with water out of the fridge all on their own for about a year. They help with removing the small trash bags and putting new bags in, and they help carry in groceries. We are challenging them a little more this summer with new tasks.
My oldest son gets asked all of the time by other kids why he has chores. I've even had mom's tell me that they want their kids to be kids and not have to clean everything up like they did when they were kids. To each their own, but I don't believe it actually helps the kids to be responsible. One of those mom's just had her son discharged from bootcamp because he couldn't handle it mentally. I believe teaching children to clean up after themselves and help out with household responsibilities... Even teaching to change tires and oil will better prepare them for the world and make them better, stronger people. I remember teaching a 16 year old girl to sweep a floor because she had never picked up a broom. Thankfully I gave her some skills to procure her first job in a restaurant... Sweeping floors and cleaning up bathrooms.

These are such great ideas! It didn't occur to me that kids can help out so much at such a young age. I kept thinking "when they're older" but I can see how proud and accomplished your daughter feels in these clips. Thanks for sharing. BTW, baby girl is TOO cute

It's amazing how capable our little ones can be if we just provide the correct environment and guidance! We have already started Practical Life Activities at 12 months and she is in LOVE with them! 💛

I watched my mom use knives for many, many years before I touched one. Even then, I can count the times I have minced garlic, for example, on one hand. I love learning about good parenting techniques, even if I don't have my own kids yet.
I haven't thought about any of these things, and my son will LOVE doing these things!
This is exactly what we do with our 2 year old! It’s such fun bonding together and watching him grow so much from it.
Wow! You are AMAZING, my son is soon turning 2 and I want to be able to involve him in my chores instead of trying to distract him and have him play somewhere else and this definitely helped so much.

I’ve been watching UA-cam videos for a long time. But this is my first comment. I read concepts about Montosorri. But till I watch your videos, I realize that we are applying the same concepts. I love your videos. And I learn so much more than what we’ve already been doing. Teaching them the practical life activities doesn’t mean that we don’t love them. This is a way to show them that they are treated equally. Their capabilities and wills are respected. It’s just amazing to see how much they can achieve sometimes. Thanks so much for sharing!

It's amazing how so many parents think that their child is either not capable of doing all this things, or that it's a chore that they should do for their child so he/she has more time for "playing". I grew uo doing all these things and I remember having so much fun doing them, not to mention how useful it is!

I keep wanting to do Montessori videos on my channel. I went to a Montessori school and loved it. My girls love all of the practical life skills. I always let them help out when they are curious. It frustrates me when I see parents telling “no” or “don’t do that” to their kids when they want to help. Parents just don’t want to take the extra time. They are in such a rush to get things done. They forget that their kids will learn from these experiences. My girls LOVE helping with the dishwasher and the animals. My oldest has a watering can obsession and will water everything lol. What’s great about teaching these skills is when you have your second little one she will learn from both you and your oldest and the process will be even quicker.

Hapa Family exactly! I have soooo many videos recorded for it I just never edited or uploaded anything. I’m going to start editing them now! Lol. Today already she helped with the dishes, cooked breakfast, sweeper the floor, got dressed, brushed her teeth, fed the dogs, made her bed, and so much more. I wasn't raised in a Montessori household but I remember helping with dinner a lot, sweeping, doing dishes, feeding the dogs, collecting the fruit from our trees, helping fold laundry, and self care when I was little. There were things I didn't do like vacuuming, dishes, setting the table, and using sharp knives for a while because I simply couldn't handle it or wasn't tall enough. I was using the stove and sharp knives by 5 with adult supervision. The only "chore" I remember not doing for a long time was doing my own hair, I didn't do my own hair until about 2nd grade because it's so thick and it was pretty long at the time so my little child arms weren't strong enough to deal with it all. If washed and conditioned my own hair I would end up with dried soap in it from not being able to scrub it and I could not brush through all my hair by myself.

Great video. I was feeling a little sad because my son is not doing the same activities as you. But then I went back and listened 22 months. I have a little bit more time to starting introducing them he is only 14 months. He loves to sweep and vacuum, wipe things down, water out side, put things In the garage. But he doesn't pick up and put away and most of the laundry help is pulling it out of the drawer. So I might need to change our set up and start modeling more.

Thank you so much for making this video, because I really have such impatience to go through books & blogs until I learn how to teach my kid something, that I feel like this video summed up the most important basics that I can already start doing by morning with my toddler and read the book for more depth and knowledge in peace. He is about 19 mo and I WISH I knew about montasorri SO much earlier, and I hope it’s not too late to change this and still be able to teach him these skills... tbh I feel like I have been a really bad mom by being mad at him for messing in the kitchen when all my little man wanted to do was to help me 😭💔

I always find This so fascinating. When my mom had my older sister she was about 3 and she was showing interest in buckling her car seat(of course my mom made sure she did it right and tight) but my mom let her practice it one afternoon of buckling herself in her car seat my mom went to go get groceries and they came back from the store my mom put her groceries in and my sister said she was gonna buckle herself in my mom got in the car and looked back at her make sure she was all safe at that time a car scratches the car my mom and sister hits the mirror off the car and kept going ( the brakes had failed) if my mom was standing there helping my sister in she would have been most likely died .

Hi,great video...i love Montessori method and my now 8 year old did Montessori for from 2 to 6 and then joined school and my now 5 year old still doing pure Montessori ,will continue till 6 and they are following all Montessori principles at their class/ environment but not at home and you have given me great Montessori ideas to follow at home.Thanks for the video.Regarding what I would like to see is how you have planned and organized your home to adapt to Montessori style and also to follow the things you suggested .Awesome to see your toddler doing all this.God bless..wish you all the best.

Yeah really toddlers can do it, but we as Mother's won't allow to do it. After ibsaw this video, I tried with my 2.5 years old baby and he is doing some of the practical life Activities.
Montessori is all about being independent don't give help unless they ask of course but modeling is better so they can feel accomplished 💯

Yes 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Gemma is currently LOVING “folding” clothes and picking out what to wear and dressing herself.
The one downside is that Kylie sometimes gets frustrated when she can't get something on properly, and then when I offer my help, she adamantly refuses and gets even more upset with me. So it's just this vicious cycle... lol... hopefully she gets the hang of it soon! >.

I’m so glad I came across your videos! I have a 7 mo (almost 8 mo) and I’ve been incorporating Montessori principals since she was born. It’s getting more and more fun as she’s getting older!
I do have a question: it looks like you may have the IKEA children’s table? When did she start using it? I’m debating making a DIY weaning table or if i should wait and just buy a table and chairs when she’s old enough to use it..
Yes, that’s the one we have! I started her using it as a weaning table when she was about 8 or 9 months old, I think? I did have my hubby modify one of the chairs with arms so she wouldn’t fall out of it on accident, though, which proved to be very useful for a long time until she was steady enough in the chair as it is normally designed. I want to say that didn’t happen until sometime after she was 1.
After watching a few of your videos I wish I could go back in time and raise my boys differently

My daughter takes the broom and drags it across the floor, so cute. She also loves feeding me. I thought the idea of this video was so sweet, I personally make the mistake of always plopping my babe in front of the tv so I can get some stuff done 😬
Many parents do, because that’s what so many of our parents did with us. Don’t beat yourself up over it. The good news is that you now have the knowledge and tools to change things going forward! 😊👍🏻
I love your ideas of how to get your child to involve all different kind of practical work at home. To follow strict Montessori, maybe you can get small trays for each activity on the shelf and a rug for floor toys but I love your setting environment, anyway. :)
