  • See the updates and lessons learned a year into having the fully functional Montessori kitchen for our toddler! We discuss the Ikea play kitchen hack, how the Duktig Ikea kitchen with working sink has withstood the test of time and toddlerhood, changes to our Montessori kitchen setup, and tips for incorporating the Montessori functional kitchen into your Montessori home.
    The functional kitchen has been a staple in our Montessori toddler kitchen, especially as we have progressed into more and more practical life activities. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and Stella has loved having a place to practice hand washing, dish washing, and food prep all in her own space! I have been looking to getting a functional kitchen for my son. I was so happy to see your upload. I am a little skeptical because my son LOVES splashing water, but you have given me some great tips to make me feel a little more confident. I plan to purchase it in the next few weeks. I’ll come back with my questions. Lol

      Absolutely! I can't think of any child who DOESN'T love splashing water, to be honest 😏 But it's possible to make it work and have fun with it too. I'll be awaiting your questions 😅

    We were gifted a pretend kitchen when my daughter turned 1 and it doesn’t easily lend itself to having a working sink :( so I had instead placed a few snacks in the cupboard for her to access as well as her bibs and placemats- This video was a good reminder to keep scaffolding! She’s ready for more advanced food prep :)
    We also have very limited counter space 😅 and use her weaning table for food prep and baking ☺️
    Hope you’ve been well, Maria! Thanks for the helpful content 💕

      Aw Priscilla! How great to hear from you again! I'm surprised you've found a pretend play kitchen that can't become functional 😔 Most of the ones I've seen could be converted, but I've certainly not seen them all. I've been thinking the same about Stella actually-she too is ready for more advanced food prep!

      @@MariaandMontessori 💕 by any chance have you seen the KidKraft kitchen be converted before? The farm-to-table version? That’s the one we have :)

    • @MariaandMontessori

      @@priscillahernandez2004 that one I have NOT seen actually. It's the first time I've seen it at all but oh my is it a precious kitchen! This one would definitely need more of a DIY to get it working (adding a door - seems like an Ikea door could work here, using a smaller water container or removing the shelf). You're right, you've definitely got one that doesn't lend itself too easily to be converted to functional though it is doable if it's something you felt is really necessary ❤️

    Got here bc we got our ikea kitchen today (yay) and I wanted some advices on how to start. I have gotten my questions answered so thanks for making this video. Tomorrow I will install the water pump and get him to wash some cups😅 wish me luck!

    How did you attach the water spigot to the kitchen? I have a slightly different kitchen and the hose isn’t snug in there so my toddler can just pull it right off 😬

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori  Рік тому +2

      We put an L bracket in the back! That black bottom casing of the water pump is just plastic so we attached the L bracket to that and the second side to the actual kitchen. You can tilt the pump up a bit to clean under it but there's no way to rip it off

    Hi, could you share what you put to cover the hole where the fake stove goes? Thanks so much

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori  Рік тому +1

      Hi! We actually kept the stove, didn't put batteries in, and just put a small cutting board on top! That way she can still use it for pretend play. I've seen others put a bin in there-seems to be same size as the half sized Flisat bins. Then it can be a drying area for dishes or fruits/veggies!

    I really want one because there really cute I’m going to ask my mom to bring my toy kitchen up tomorrow evening and buy the fake sink myself. I may ask my aunt to buy the mini fridge. Or my mom. This kitchen idea is super cute tho!

    Super informative! Like you said it’s so important to introduce things slowly and model what to do! I’ve gotten lazy at putting out accessible snacks for my kids so this inspired me to get it going again!

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori  2 роки тому

      Keeping up with the snacks is one of the harder aspects for me too! Especially when their tastes are changing so quickly. What I thought she'll be into this week on Monday is no longer true come Wednesday 🥴
