- I have received many questions on Instagram and Facebook about what's on the shelves and the changes I've made in the classroom for the new school year. So here's a tour of my Montessori toddler classroom in Amsterdam (Jacaranda Tree Montessori). Have a look around! PS Please excuse my wobbly hands - I hope it's not too distracting.
I just LOVE your videos. I only wish there was one that showed the children interacting with the materials in the room. I know this is impossible with filming children but I’m so intrigued to see the space in action.

Yes, it's so beautiful to see Montessori classrooms in action. I might have to ask a group of parents to come on a weekend who would be happy to have their child filmed. Have you seen the new French film about Montessori? There is a beautiful trailer with lots of footage of children doing Montessori.
Do you have an outdoor space? I am struggling to find a space with the outdoor space for my preschool:(
We don't have an outdoor space. It's hard to find. We are not a preschool, but run 2-hour parent-child classes so we don't have to have an outdoor space. Good luck with your search!

I had them built from MDF and painted them. The shelves are 120Lx30Dx40H. Hope this helps.

Question regarding the first classroom - What is the capacity of this classroom? How many students can comfortably be in the room at once?

I have 12 children and 12 adults over the two classrooms (they are about the same size) as it's a parent-child class. Hope it helps. And, yes, we love the climbing wall!
I love your classroom set up so much!!! I especially love the climbing wall and the cube! I wish I had a gross motor area in my room but it is too small. I had a question - do you have a practical life area with scooping, pouring, tonging, etc? Thanks so much!
With toddlers, we work on these skills with activities like handwashing, dishwashing, flower arranging - giving purpose to these movements. Hope this helps!

Oh. My. Goodness! Beautiful classroom!! WHERE did you get the green drawers your art supplies are stored in? I must have them. I've been looking forever for something exactly like that. I don't even care if I have to pay to have it shipped to America. Please, please, please share the name or website of where they can be found! Your room is gorgeous.
Thank you - we are so happy in this space. The green drawers are wooden IKEA drawers which I painted when they needed a facelift. They are MOPPE. Not sure if they are still available in the US. Hope this helps!

These are Ikea drawers - they are called MOPPE and then painted when they started looking dirty.

What aged toddler do you have in mind with these activities?
The classroom is set up in this video for children from around 14 months to 3 years.
Hi there! I’m an administrator for a small infant/toddler child development center in the States. I was wondering how you keep the children from being too destructive with the activities? I saw the screw driver for the fine motor bolt activity & I’m not sure even our 2 year olds are ready to play with those. We have a 1:4 staff-child ratio, so 2 staff for 8 toddlers. Any advice? Is this set up realistic for free play or do you usually have the children sit at tables/ mats? Thank you! Beautiful video!
We have mixed age toddlers so the older ones are modelling for the younger ones as well as us providing support if needed. The younger ones may already be interested, we show them that we sit at the table to use sharp objects and where to return things when they are done. Hope this helps.

I am about to begin a position in a new Montessori infant and toddler program. From past experience in various ECE settings, I observed how the younger children ( generally from 12 to 20 months old) naturally mouth just about any objects especially when they are teething. I would so appreciate your take on that and how you navigate this in your environment.
The young ones need to mouth things to explore as this is the most sensitive part of their body. Around 14 months, I show the child what the material is for and this is usually more interesting. If they teeth it, we can sanitise it, but there is not usually a lot of children teething at the same time. For small parts, we may need to find a container that the younger ones cannot open.

where did you get the low white shelves? Most shelves for infant and toddlers are birch wood. I love the white shelves. Could you please let me know. I am going to start my infant and toddler parent and child classes here in Alberta Canada. Thank you so much .

I'm a Montessori pedagouge and I'm still studying to have my AMI :) and my question is about the movement area and how toddler loves to be there: how important does it to have this area inside a toddler group? And doesn't it sometimes distract them from working with Montessori materials?
Hi Mays, Fun that you are doing your AMI training. Movement is an important part of every child's development - just as important as working with the "Montessori materials" although I consider our gross motor area also as Montessori material. We follow the child and their energy - often they will work on some fine motor material or art and then need to move. Then they gradually flow back to other activities. We trust the child knows what they need in that moment. Hope this helps.
This is wonderful. Do you recommend any good books about Montessori and setting up montessori at home? Also do you follow a montessori curriculum? where do you get your supplies? I want to set up montesori at home but I don't know where to start as there is an abundance of information online. I want to start off simple any advice? Supplies for montessori are expensive so any advice on that would be greatly appreciated. Great channel and great videos thank you for making them.

I actually wrote a book this year for parents to set up Montessori at home called "The Montessori Toddler". I follow the Montessori curriculum from my training with Association Montessori Internationale. And my supplies I hunt down from all over. The table is from Nienhuis (with legs cut down) and the chairs from Goochem in Amsterdam (also with legs cut down). Hope this helps.
Hi love your classroom setup . I am trying to Incorporate the Concept of practical life in my traditional classroom . Question is should it be an area on it own or can a practical life activity be in every center
I usually have an area of the classroom for practical life activities as they often involved water and a lot of movement. But it could work throughout the space, eg, watering plants near plants, snack preparation in the food area etc. Hope this helps! 💛

I just wondered if the holds spacing on your climbing wall is suitable for 18 month olds? Also how is it attached to the wall?

The spacing of the holds will depend on the child's climbing ability. I have some 18 month olds practising, but good from 2+ years. The cozy cube was built by a local tradesman based off a picture I saw on Pinterest. It's 120cm x 120cm x 120cm made from plywood. And the same person hang the climbing wall. I'm not handy so I suggest you ask someone who is :)

It's by TAG toys. I bought it from Michael Olaf, recently closed, but you may be able to source in the USA. Hope this helps!
