The giant's original name was literally Jormungandr lol. You can see the "-gandr" written on the marble Atreus used to revive the snake in Jotunheim. Jormie was basically just some giant dude who hated Thor and then one day woke up in the body of a snake. It can't be Hrimthur because Hrimthur was killed before he even got the chance to put his soul into a marble.

“Hey jormungandr, why weren’t you in Asgard at ragnarok.” What are you talking about? I was literally there fighting Thor, how did you not see a 41 000km long snake?😂
this explanation of Jormungandr was brilliantly 🤯 what an excellent story of how he came to be, recognized Atreus, and going back into time. How that story unfolded over the course of the games was awesome.
The whole thing becomes kinda hilarious if the soul inside Jormie is Utgard-Loki. That giant was a master illusionist and sorcerer, most famous for fucking with Thor through humiliating challenges in front of the entire Jötunn court.
Ok, the younger World Serpent was created in Jotunheim by Atreus and Angrboda after placing an unknown giant soul into the snake. In a short brief timespan, he grew into the size of a mountain before joining the war in Asgard. By that time, the current World Serpent remained in Midgard, not participating in the war in Asgard, otherwise, he would risk creating a loop of himself getting thrown back in time by Thor. The question of which of the giant souls was placed in the body of a snake remains a mystery, but Starkad is the first thing that comes to mind.
0:34 - is this an error by the writers? In God of War 2018, Freya said the World Serpent just appeared one day . Jormungander and Thor fought to a stalemate. Here, she said they never met before Ragnarok.
No, she was referencing the younger Jormungandr who because it had only been alive for maybe a few days shouldn’t have fought Thor with the personality of someone who held a grudge against Thor personally. Later after being sent back through time they fought and that fight ended in a stalemate.
when is it that Kratos, Mimir and Freya learn/realize that Atreus went to Jotunheim for those 2 days he was gone?? ive been trying to find the clip or something, but nothing. Do they just piece together themselves that he went to Jotunheim when they met Angrboda?

There were 2 world serpents for a time, Young and Old, Young spent ALL of it's time in the land of giant, it has some history with Thor, but that didn't narrow it down, at Ragnarok they finally fight where young goes back in time, to Earth and now it is Old world serpent, Old World Serpent could have gone to Ragnarok but chose not too, so you are kind of right where the 2 version could have interacted, but in the end didn't really. But that interaction doesn't matter, cause even if both could interact doesn't mean that they would, or that they would remember, or realize who they're talking too.
Think of it from his point of view. He lives out his life as a giant and eventually agrees to put his souls in a stone along with the other giants. Atreus puts his soul into the body of a snake and he grows very fast. He fights in Ragnarok and gets knocked back in time by Thor. He arrives at the lake in Midgard and goes through the events of 2018. Now he's the sleeping older snake at the frozen lake and stays on Midgard during Ragnarok.
Time is often depicted as a river. If you directed the river's path back into it's starting point, it will always be the same river. Nothing changes. Just the path. We do not know when the river diverted but it doesn't matter. As the river is still the same river. Just circled back. It's technically not a loop. It's a 360 turn.

If you have questions, I may be able to answer them. I believe I understand the story from this and none of it is confusing to me. In GOW4 (2018) when they met Jörmie, they already fought. It ended in a stalemate. Remember that part? The other stranger pointed this as well. I'll call him "Jörmie" as he is younger. After the stalemate, Jörmie grew large into Jörmungandr we know in GOW4. This Jörmungandr grew out through Fimbulwinter and is still chilling there after the events of Ragnarök. During the events of Ragnarök, Loki breathed life into Jörmie. Jörmie grew and then fought Thor during Ragnarök and was sent back through time. After being sent through time, Jörmie fought into Thor and ended in a stalemate. While the Jörmungandr that grew, hibernated through Fimbulwinter. That is why the "remnants" of the Great Serpent can still be seen in Midgard after Ragnarök. There is no loop. If we look at this from a different perspective, it is as if you are travelling on a 360 degree road. Circling around to get somewhere. Either to a higher point or a lower point in a road. However, the road you take is still moving forward. It just circles around but not perpetually. Thus, it isn't a loop. It is a turn.
@@Asriel_Cypherut it’s still a loop. Jorm had to be born before he was born in GOW4 otherwise the theory wouldn’t make sense. The one get hit by Thor during the Ragnarok was the newly born Jormungandr. The snake that grew really, REALLY big after Atreus put a giant soul in it. This younger version of Jormungandr is the one who fought Thor in Ragnarok then he get sent back in time back before he was created... and been chillin out ever since, growing bigger as he go, letting his younger self fought in Ragnarok. @@iamablacksabbathsong9765 No. I imagine he was just chillin around the 8 realms, celebrating Thor's death.
