Thank you for the kind words, Cathy! 💕 It's been a wild and wonderful year, and yes I couldn't have done it without my husband.

Thank you Gloria! I love birth stories. I wasn’t blessed with a husband or children. But I always wanted to have that experience. So, my best friend and her husband invited me to be a part of their birth team. Her OB doctor was my GYN doctor, so the doctor was fairly comfortable with allowing me into the delivery room. Their beautiful little girl was born 39 years ago in early September. My friend had a difficult delivery and I was invited (by the doctor and my friends) to go into surgery to witness their C-section birth. Mind blown. That precious child grew up to have her own little boy and she became a birth doula after her own birth experience.
When we were going through the natural childbirth classes, our teacher said that she was teaching us how a text-book birth should go. But we needed to remember that the baby couldn’t read yet and he/she may do things their own way. Such good advice. 😊
Thank you and Finn for the camera time. I am very happy that this little guy has such great parents. I love that both of you are participating fully in this adventure called parenting.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! That’s incredible that you got to witness those other birth experiences. How neat! I would love to assist in another persons birth at some point. What a sacred and beautiful experience (no matter how it goes). And thank you for the kind words and encouragement ❤️

I would highly recommend The Midwife in Amish Country by Kim Woodard Osterholzer. I’m reading it now and as a doula with soon 6 kids (due tomorrow) I have read a lot of midwifey books and I think I remember you saying you liked that topic. Anyway I’m loving it! The author is not Amish just putting that out there, but a Christian who shares a lot about her faith journey too!
Thanks for sharing your birth story!! ❤

Mother To Son by Jasmine Holmes is a wonderful, short read. It’s sweet words that she has written about being a mom to her son.

I totally argee with non-fiction books and taking what you thinknis good out of then and leaving the rest.
M is for Mama is a good one for sure! She has another book too called Hard is Not the Same as Bad and I loved that one so much!
Loved hearing your birth story! I always tear up listening to other peoples birth stories. It such a beautiful thing bring live into the world.
I have 5 kids and have birthed 2 in the hospital (one was with an epidural and the other was without), 2 at a birth center (one born in the tub), and my last was a home birth, born in our tub. I had pretty good experience with all of them, but I loved the home birth because I didnt have to leave my house, which was so great!

I ordered the other Halberstat book on Pango. Definitely will be picking that one up!
I agree, I cried so much being pregnant watching/hearing other birth stories. Love that you experienced all of the things with your 5 kiddos. That’s incredible. I’m definitely thinking home birth for my next one (if I can convince my husband 😉).

I also love the whole babywise/toddler wise series! My daughter is 6 and I still buy each new level as she hits a new age group.

Shepherding a child’s heart by Tedd Tripp is probably going to be in the same circle as “Parenting”. It is for sure on my TBR. Our pastor recommended it and hearing his description of it was just so beautiful. Really getting to the heart of “bad behavior” and why kids react & do the things they do. I can’t wait to read it.

So many options out there. I have learned w/ any self help or Christian non-fiction to eat the meat and spit out the bones. So take what I agree with and things I want to discuss w/ my husband and leave the stuff that doesn't sit right w/ me or doesn't fit my beliefs. I am currently working on an anxiety book for parents. I never really had anxiety until having kids. I certainly don't want to cause them to worry and be anxious. One of the books my church gives out when you dedicate a child is Family Discipleship by Matt Chandler. We haven't started it yet but a lot of my friends have really enjoyed that one.

Hi Gloria! Im glad the traumatic part of your birth story ended well! I had a similar story but i ended up hemorrhaging and losing 2 liters of blood! Im still traumatized by this but im also happy i was at the hospital to get the help i needed right away. Thanks for sharing your story and these book recs! Also happy upcoming bday for your lil babe!

Thank you for sharing yours too! I’m sorry about that trauma. It’s so hard but also yes, I feel grateful I was at the hospital for this first birth and that experience since we had no idea what to expect.

Thanks for sharing your story, Gloria. Hoping alot of young women out there hear it. It is interesting to listen to your experience and realize how far we've come in this world - I had my children 29 and 26 yrs ago, and what a different time! = 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' was THE book to reference back then. 😊Not as much 'technology' to educate yourself with prior to giving birth ( and I could probably say, to scare us with either! ). We relied on our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, etc. to help put us at ease and share what to expect.
I was lucky enough to not have medicated births with either - barely made it to the hospital to deliver my 1st! but can say that I had easy experiences with both my son and daughter. Finn is a beautiful boy - and looks much like you! Parenting is NOT easy - but you ride the wave, stay calm and your child will be just fine. I am always amazed to hear women today talk about how old their babies are and still 'not sleeping thru the night'. Both of mine were after 8 weeks - as were so many other babies of my friends back then. You will get all those sleep deprived moments back some day - don't worry!
Parenting is very rewarding - and never a 'done' job! but something tells me you will do just fine! have a wonderful weekend - and looking forward to your next book video!! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to write out your experience and also share words of encouragement. 💕 There is something so beautiful about learning from the women around you who have had experience and I’m thankful for my community of women that I heard stories from before labor. But agree that part of that is missing in our day and age.
