I also surprisingly loved God of the Woods. I think I read 300 pages in a day and stayed up late to finish it! I’m definitely interesting in reading her previous books because I’ve heard they’re great as well.

I stayed up way too late too one night and that hasn’t happened in a very long time. It was so good! I’ve never been interested before in her books, but now I am as well!

I love that you share picture books. I'm not as up on the more current authors/illustrators and book titles as I was for my kids.❤. Helps when choosing books for my grandkids. You always seem to pick beautiful ones.

Thank you, Carla! I'll keep sharing when I can. I'll definitely be reading lots of them for the next few years at least.

❤ Sophie Blackall! Her lettering and illustration work is so beautiful!
I’m glad you enjoyed God of the Woods! That one was a surprise for me as well 😅

I have yet to see anyone hate it. I feel like it's the book of the year. So buzzy but worth the buzz!

I love the picture book section. I weirdly enjoyed The God of the Woods as well. I found it super compelling.

Good way of phrasing the reading experience - weirdly compelling!

I also love Sophie Blackall! I work in an elementary library and have added many of her books to the collection.

God of the Woods sounds so intriguing! Loveeee Hello Lighthouse and Farmhouse! I haven't read a picture book in so long, gotta pick some up again.

I really liked going through a picture book authors works back to back so I may do that more regularly. I don’t think you’d really like God of the Woods, but I may be wrong and it could be a surprisingly dark read that you enjoy. 🤷‍♀️

God of the Woods is on my TBR. Glad to hear your thoughts. I think I’ll have to check out Sparks Like Stars too. Thanks for bringing that author to my attention. 😊💙

I think she has quite the backlist as well for books set in Afghanistan.

Most of these would be out of my comfort zone as well. 😁 It's funny, immediately after watching your video, i watched one by another BookTuber who has just read September, but she loved it without any caveats. It was funny to hear the different perspectives.

It's super atmospheric, which Pilcher always nails but just certain choices characters made... I couldn't get behind.

Nice to hear your thoughts on God of the Woods. I don't think I could read it, though, because I hate stories about missing children. Glad you had fun with it though!

Yes, the mother-child grief exploration is strong and it's very sad overall. So good that you know that about your reading tastes!

I've avoided God of the Woods because of the hype! I've been burned by hyped books, so often I wonder what the appeal is, but I trust your judgment so I think I'll put a hold on it at the library.

It's a good one to try out and see if it works for you. I loved the character-driven story.

Sounds like a good month - a shame about ink and ew
and agree on the general vibe of prize books. They don't always work for me. Half of shortlists are good, and the other half feel like torture 😅

Yes, I try to avoid if I can because they usually have content or vibes I just don't jive with.

hmm now I am actually intrigued by God of the Woods. I don't usually do thrillers or literary fiction so it wasn't on my radar at all. I am all for picture book content over here. Naomi still doesn't sit still for much but we read everyday. I read picture books to Sam even into highschool because you can learn so much about something so quickly. He is taking a dual enrollment english class at the local community college this fall and used a picture book to get the general biography of a baseball player that he had to write a paper about one aspect of his life.

Yes, Finn goes through phases and there was a month or so that he just could care less. Now that he hit the one year mark, he's getting more into them and it's so cute to see! I love that you still do that with your older son! The artwork helps bring everything to light. Better than reading a Wikipedia page. 🙃

I am sorry to hear your review of Christmas With The Queen; seeing as I pre-ordered it!😑 I love Hazel Gaynor's bks. but less the ones she writes w/ other author. The first bk. I ever read by her was A Memory Of Violets umpteen yrs. ago. I still remember it. How did you get a copy of Christmas With The Queen when it isn't out yet? Seeing as you liked God Of The Woods, I'm going to read it. Had decided not to. Thanks😊

I'm sorry too since it's pre-ordered! Maybe you'll love it. Especially around the Christmas season. I read the ebook of it from NetGalley where publishers send early copies of the book for review.

I read The God of the Woods. I still can't decide if I liked the ending or not. What did you think of it ??

    • @GloriaZThompson
      @GloriaZThompson  2 місяці тому +1

Same! I'm kinda glad it wasn't a big crazy thing. All the reveals and solved mysteries made sense and wasn't over the top. But I also just can't really buy into a 12/13 year old just going to live on her own for 5 years. Yeah right! And the swimming scene was silly to me.
