So interesting!!!! I made up my own slang accidentally once too like Rachel haha! I was hiking with my Japanese boyfriend and he pretended to push me off the edge of a cliff and I was so surprised i shouted "yabunai" like abunai 危ない and yabai ヤバイ mixed together haha XD now we use that new word all the time lol some of our friends use it too around us 😂
Yabunai...that's such an awesome word.
It's like a single word for "something happened to me and there are going to be consequences" (I'm not 100% fluent so sorry if I messed anything up)
So it's like someone doing "sick"/dangerous skateboard tricks?
Mark Ryan exactly! It's for things both dangerous and crazy lol XD
Mark Ryan exactly! It's for things both dangerous and crazy lol XD
Fun fact: Today I learned that it is physically impossible to get a paper plate of spaghetti to fall spaghetti side down. Try it. Or don't, because it stains floors really quickly. Which is another thing I learned today.
I've dropped my spaghetti like 10 times and they land face down every time...
Rachel & Jun do either you or jun watch cooking shows? 👀

One of my friends lives in Tokyo and he told me that wwwww was like the Japanese "lol" and so it looks like grass, so sometimes they just send the kanji for grass
yeah I've heard of that too lol
Bruhhh I WAS WONDERING WHAT TF THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT "Gun" everytime I looked it up in the dictionary it just said a type of weed or grass I was LOST
My Japanese teacher said apparently laughing sounds like grass moving, which is why??? Imagine laughing and it’s nearly silent every time.
草(kusa)←this is the kanzi for grass
it is supposed to look like part of the kanji for laugh 笑う
I asked what the correct plural of fish was in the "Jun explains English idioms he's never heard before" video comments and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now.
HAHA I promise you he was asking because he didn't know. And I just know the answer because... those are the types of things I spend my life googling, apparently.
My GF got kicked out of kindergarten for arguing with her teacher about "fish" vs. "fishes". The school ended up bumping her to first grade.
Boy! You like them young!!
I don't understand what is going on here -_-
Barrenger 35 years ago. And I didn't know her then:D
In france, we say "mdr" which is kinda the french equivalent of "lol".
it's short for "mort de rire", which litteraly means "death from laughter"
omg i'm french and i didn't know that...aaah that's why everyone says that in the group chats
Here in Quebec, "excepté une fois au chalet" popped up as a joke related to doing anything embarrassing. It came from an arguably more serious incident - an aging child abuser accidentally confessing to a cameraman by saying 'I never molested my daughters, except for that one time at the family cabin', but the absolutely thoughtless nature of that confession struck local minds as being meme-worthy.
So now, if you want to use that in its meme format, you might say something like "J'ai jamais utilisé le mode Assistance à Mario Kart 8, excepté une fois au chalet." In English, that would translate as 'I've never used Assist Mode in Mario Kart 8 before, except for that one time at the family cabin.'
Daniel Sauvé In France we've heard about this joke and we use it sometimes but I didn't know it became so popular in Quebec. That's quite interesting.
Why does everything sound better in French?
ouiiii, un français sur cette chaîne ! j'dis oui !
In german we too have a equivalent of "nihongo de ok". It is "Und jetzt auf Deutsch bitte." and means "And now in german please."
Stimmt 😳
and English has the same thing, for when someone is talking about really complicated and technical things that most people wouldn't understand.
Same in russian :)
@@dandarr5035 yeah, but "und jetzt noch mal auf Deutsch, bitte" can also be used if the person just mumbled or talked on a weird dialect or something.

in italy we use a lot of english slang. however, we tend to take english verb,as for example to tag, and we add the suffix for the infinite(first conjugation -Are) turning the verb a little bit more italian: taggare, googlare, chattare... and then you can also conjugate them in a phrase like normal verbs.
Geo haha, we do that in spanish too!!!
Geo Yeah, we do that in Brazil too, especially in games. We just add "ar" after the verb (to drop is dropar, to lure is lurar, to delete is deletar, etc.)
As someone who is learning Italian, I'm glad I found this out so the internet doesn't confuse me 😂

OH! I feel bad for all the times I carelessly said "日本語でおk" thinking it was just another way of telling people that I could understand Japanese since I study it...Oh well.
I mean, if they start talking english and you're like "日本語でおk" they should get what you mean, i think.
I'm not sure though ¯\__(ツ)__/¯
"日本語でおk" is often used for some one who's Japanese makes no sense even though he is Japanese, so it means that when people don't get what you are talking about they use that term a lot. It's also used for someone who is pretending to be a Japanese while his Japanese is not perfect yet.
Well if it's people who are not all the time on the internet, they will get the original and normal meaning. so it's ok

9:48 reminds me of funny situation that my japanese teacher told us. One day, his student wanted to say to Japanese girl that she has a pretty shoes. Instead of saying "きれいなくつ" she said "きれいけつ" (beautiful ass or something like that :p)
Ronnie that's a funny mistake hahaha
We have a local celebrity who had once been the guest of an event (I don't remember what event exactly) and there's also another female Japanese guest. He tried to say ”きれいです”(you are beautiful/pretty)but he ended up saying ”きらいです”(I hate you / I don't like you) and it was so embarrassing but I laughed so hard lol
Eli Lavia ahaha it must have been akward
Once I tried to call someone cute "かわいいです" and ended up calling them scary "こわいです"...

In the Philippines, we also had a sort of syllabic system called "abakada" before it was replaced with the Philippine alphabet. Basically, it was all of the alphabet minus c and f plus ñ and ng, with either a or e or I, mostly a, after each letter. For example: a, ba, ka, da, e, ga, ha, i.
Since our words are still structured the same way regardless, modern Filipino texting is made up of abbreviations of these letters like: kmin k n b/kknb? Which means "kumain ka na ba?" or "have you eaten yet?"
A popular movie/book that uses this kind of slang is "ABNKKBSNPLAKO" which stands for "Aba Nakakabasa Na Pala Ako" which can be translated as "Oh look/ Oh my, I can read now".
Because of this, gg is no longer a friendly term between gamers; instead, it is an insult similar to the word idiot. 😅

It's not really internet slang but the Dutch language especially among friends in general seems very rude and coarse, thus there are a lot of words that seem internet-ish. For example we have the term 'mierenneuker' which means antfucker, it's used to refer to people who make an issue about small or irrelevant details, it's a ruder version of nitpicker.
Arch Dutchess In alle talen is dat wel zo
Inderdaad! Wat ik bedoel is dat Nederlands over het algemeen gewoon wat meer 'bot' aanvoelt? Wat meer ruig dan andere talen, Vlaams en Limburgse accenten zijn een wat meer 'zachtgesproken' versie van Nederlands waardoor ze voor Nederlanders ten Noorden van Limburg raar klinken.
From now on when my friend asks me to make food right before I sit down, I shall present it to her with “Meshi YAGARE”. Thank you for this blessed translation. Also we have way too much slang in English. I don’t even know half of it because every day people seem to make up a new shortcut.
Is "nihongo de ok" the same type of thing as in the English phrase "ummmm English please??" Like when the scientist of nerdy kid says something smart and no one else knows what they're talking about so they say "um English please?"
Erin Kitching yp
Another variant would be "Now say it in English". I was the kid who always used scientific words so I heard that one a lot.
Very late but I think people largely use that as "Using Japanese is ok". I see a number of translators on their twitter having something in their bios like 日本語/ENGでおk to say they speak the language/s fluently in as few words as possible cuz twitter bios
I'd like to add something else to "Nihongo de OK", which happened to me while watching live streams in Nico Nico Douga.
Because I was young and stupid, I made the mistake of commenting something in English a few times. As a result, the streams used to get flooded with "Nihongo de OK".
Thus, I think I can safely say it's a... rude-yet-polite way to say "Only write in Japanese or shut the f*** off" 😅
Tais Adonis, that's the meaning I know of. I got quite confused with Jun explanation because of NND's usage of it.

In China there's a slang "666" and when my American friends first saw me typing it they were really confused lol. 6 in Chinese is pronounced like "leo" which sounds similar to "lol" in English. So when we say "666" or however many 6's it just means that we are laughing. 6666666 😂
Tiffany Lin spamming "6666666" sounds so goofy in Cantonese lol "LOOKLOOKLOOKLOOKLOOKLOOK"
Nope, "666" is for saying someone who is super good at doing something. For example, if someone dominates you in a video game, you say "666" to him/her. It could also be used as a sarcasm to show that you don't give a shit about whatever s/he is showing off. Your interpretation is totally wrong. Why don't you just ggrks?
666=溜溜溜 which literally means smooth
honestly my friends use 666 for like every situation so i guess you can interpret it however you want??

Nihongo de ok in italian (my language) would be "parla come magni!" Literally means "speak like you are eating" = say it easy hahaha
In English, we say "In English, please!" Basically, it's a very sarcastic way to tell people to use simpler words that most people can understand.
@@Jionunez7 In Spain, if you want to say someone "please talk in spanish" with a little of derision we say "A mí me hablas en cristiano" which means "talk to me in Christian" (Christian referring to a catholic religion's person, not the name Christian).

In Chinese, we have a character for literally every sound like oh! 哦! Ah! 啊! etcetera. So when Chinese people find something funny they'll just spam haha as a means of going "lol." So... 哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈
Lowe This so true 哈哈哈哈
and in japanese to express that they just spam wwwwwwwwwwwwwwww to represent the same. Not sure the reasoning in that case though.
the "w" is because the japanese word for laugh is 笑う (warau)
and because wwwwwww looks like grass they sometime also use 草 kanji for grass as "lol" ;]
