Thanks for the video. Im 64 and a retired. Sheetmetal worker. I fell apart in 50s , alcoholism and depression and divorce. I had to go back to get my pension. I thought my muscles were going to rip off my bones. I made it by the grace of God and luck and stubbornness. No thing or one lasts forever . Stay busy after you retire....if you retire. @@ohiowoodburner im from CALIFORNIA. There are some other pitfalls to retirement. Its a big adjustment. Your in Ohio id assume? There is a retirement disease ive coined. The less you do the weaker you become. The weaker you become the harder things become. So the less you do the more you dont want to do. Pretty soon you loose your strengths and skills. Some what like a homeless gets i suppose. Its a subtle thing that you dont know its happening. Another pit fall is alcoholism . The older to get the more pain you get. You can start dinking earlier or more cause you dont have to be alert and on schedule. Pretty soon your drinking way to much . There is more and i dont want to scare you or paint a ugly picture of retirement. There are some good things too. I know your eventually get to that point where you feel the need or cant do it. So that's why i wanted to give you a heads up. It diesnt matter what you do in life. Its how you feel when your doing it. If you love work then keep doing it as long as you can. There are bennifits there you will miss. No one tell you all this. I have the golden carrot.....now what ? Time flys. The golden carrot is a tool to help you get there.

I do NOT blame you for going back to the perfect split.
I spent 6 hours today splitting with the new splitter for me, I got a Country Pro (think County Line)25-ton horz/ Vert.
It was taking 11-14 splitter cycles to breakdown a 22-26” round. That same round would take 4-6 cycles through a box wedge. All in it was like 6 hours to get ~2 cord split.
If the numbers are right, that saves me 9 weeks of labor to process 300 cord a year. 200ish hours running a wedge vs 550ish hours running a box store splitter.
I am just beginning my own firewood business. But that’s a huge expense over 4 years of operations. It MORE than pays for something like a Wolfe Ridge 35 SHO Box wedge or a Timberwolf Alpha 5 or 6.

Looks like you will be moving from "firewood shoulder" to "perfect shoulder" !
I recently watched a video from another channel, where they dumped their splits onto muddy barnyard cement. Then, they scooped it up with a bucket for re-splitting. This resulted in very muddy splits. Very unacceptable!
How could you sell "muddy and cow shit stained splits" to a restaurant who uses this wood for cooking food?
Then I thought of your business. You can sell your wood for more money, because it is worth more! True, the other channel can produce more wood, but you dont have to produce as much, since you can almost double your selling price!
Why work twice as hard for the "same amount" of money earned? Why wear out your delivery vehicles delivering twice the amount of firewood at half the price?
Firewood is an unforgiving business. It is hard on the joints.
I dont care if a person just loves to work hard! One must work smart too!
Unnecessary re-splitting is such a waste of time and effort. I noticed your buddy Scheib is now using a pizza box wedge to produce wood that doesnt require re-splitting.
