That is one heck of a machine! I could sit here and watch wood being processed all day. Keep up the good work!
Some of the cleanest firewood you'll ever see. Congratulations, what a set up!
Good morning Joe , I was disappointed not to see you at the firewood frenzy. Dan told me it was because they don’t sell Dr. Pepper in Wisconsin. Eau Claire must be a dry county. I was looking for Joe from Joe’s premium firewood there as well but Dan said Joe’s mom wouldn’t let him have her car because he missed curfew a few nights earlier.
Anyways that quite the machine you have there. It may take a little getting used to but you’ll be a pro before you know it. I love the fact that it will greatly reduce the re-splitting.
Cheers
Wow Joe, that is a game changer. It has a lot of functions for most situations, I bet once you have them committed to muscle memory you will be flying through those poles and markedly improve production. Your workflow setup is great the way you have it set up, looking forward to the surprise you have for catching the crumbs that shake out and how you dispose of those. Thanks for sharing and the great camera shots! Congratulations is in order sir!
Trading the 365 for the 405 Box Wedge System a Game Changer, it saves Time Money and Respiting, Well Done
That is truly impressive. It allows a small business like yours work with fewer hands. Great job!
Thanks Dan. That has been an approach of mine since I started growing.
Congrats to the new machine and perfect firewood! I watched the Finnish Japa YT channel and there were two ladies in the middle of winter in snow coveralls splitting birch firewood, a big pile of it! You should ask them to come over and help. Maybe your girls could run the machine. Again Thanks for great channel and your uplifting attitude!
Absolutely love how this processor eliminates the need for re-splitting! Also, the ability to saw while splitting will do great things for cycle time. Can't wait to see how the reliability is over the long haul.
Looks like a great machine Joe. Thank you for your great review. I like how you went over the pro and cons. Continued great success with your new Japa. Have a great rest of your day.
Excellent video. Camera persons did a super job showing the processor going though each action. Joe you would make a great sale person at a show to sell this processor as you explain everthing so well when not even experienced on the operating the 405 perfect split at this time. Grand slam purchase IMO for you
Joe I’m sorry, i gotta watch the video again. I couldn’t wait to see you run that beast. I know you went through the machine with us but I wanted to see it in action. What a beast! Congratulations on the new machine and working smarter that harder.

You hit a home run with the 405 Joe! Elaine from Canada here, knowing that you’re a novice at the controls only means you’re going to get way better, so be prepared for some ultimate production soon. Love the clean and small cuts, and curious about what you’re going to do with the scraps . Enjoy your new machine, wow Joe, it looks to be a winner.
Lord have mercy - that machine gives a whole new meaning to ambidextrous!! 🥴😵😬🤯😆😆😆 Love watching these! You really explained the operation of it well!! 👍 God bless you and your family!
Wow I am really impressed with the box wedge attachment, that is as close to a perfect combination with the 405 processor. Keep up with the great vids and stay safe.
Hi Joe. I enjoy watching processor videos from various manufacturers. The 405 box wedge design seems to produce the most uniform small splits compared to anything else I’ve seen. I’m very impressed! Can’t wait to see your production numbers as you become more proficient with the controls.
Dick
Love the machine! Looks like Japa has been paying attention to the market and other processors and came up with several nice upgrades on this machine. I'd really love to see a price point video where someone explains the overall cost and the added cost for each upgrade on the machine.
Thanks joe!
You might find something like that on Metsa Machines UA-cam channel. Thanks Ken
Hi Joe!!😀😀
I love the extra capacity that the 405 has. The little Kubota diesel doesn't sound like it has to work really hard to do everything you ask of it.
It's a great upgrade for your business. Can't wait to see what you come up with for catching all the scraps.
It's not going to take you very long to get proficient with it. Just going to take a little practice.
Take care my friend!!😀😀👍👍💚💚

Joe like all semi complicated new equipment, there is always a leaning curve. When I bought a Walker mower for my lawn care business I had a hard time getting it off my trailer. A few weeks later I was climbing backwards up hills. This machine fits all your boxes. In the future with all the rain you have there you should put a tent or shed enclosure over that machine. Great machine!
Excellent tool for small young growth, however in my old growth forests we skid out 18" to upwards of 24 " diameter maples & oaks. I see cherry birch elm as great material for this tool. Great video well detailed.
Best demo of a processor I've seen! I am now subscribed. Hope you have more of this thing running!
Glad to have you on board Clark! What took you so long??? LOL. Please check out our other vids. We post every Sun and Wed. Thanks again Clark
Boy this unit gets it done.I know learning the unit takes time you are doing good
The 405 is a beast it's just a matter of getting comfortable with it. You'll get there Joe it's just one day at a time.
Looks like a great time saving machine. When you install the boxes to catch the debris your back will shout”THANK YOU”
That perfect split is niiiiiice!
Hi Joe, as always I think you have made the right choices….the right processor for your immediate needs! Admire your thought process and practical approach. Going forward I feel you will go from strength to strength with few problems! Confusion with the controls will soon disappear once you get back in to your ‘comfort zone.’ Got to get out there now and find more ‘value added’ customers to absorb your increased production, with this new machine. Well done Joe, keep it up Len (Devon 🇬🇧)
Once you get the muscle memory built up for all the buttons you’ll be one with the machine and need someone to feed your log deck to keep up with you! Looks awesome! Love seeing that perfect split in action. Very satisfying to watch
I have no doubt you will do fine with this processor. Just give it some time. This video reminds me of someone starting a new job that is very qualified. Little nervous at first, but with a little time your confidence will grow.
You get logs, kindling and fire starter processed at the same time. Excellent revenue streams coming out of the machine and separated for you. Nice upgrade!
Hey I've been following 'in the woodyard' coz I am fascinated by the Eastonmade but I have to say this machine JAPA is something else
Can't wait for more videos to come
Bene from DownUnder 🇮🇹
That is a very nice and productive setup! Congratulations on the upgrade. Next time I'm in Ohio I'd love to stop by and check it out.
Bravo for showing the learning curve. Good video
I dealt enjoy the the whole explanation of the new Japa what a great new addition to your wood spitting process
You my friend are a gentleman. I feel I would do business very like you. You will get the hang of that new machine. I find sometimes a nights sleep really helps as your subconscious mind will help process it. I couldn’t wait for today’s video and I wasn’t disappointed. Loved it. Can’t wait to see where you take OWB
This is a top notch machine Joe , I can smell the fresh paint from down under !
That 405 is an awesome machine! Once you get used to it, and get a rhythm going, there will be no stopping you! Have a great day, stay safe, and may God bless…
Nice upgrade there Joe.. To quote the late Rush Limbaugh. You are "having more fun than a humanbeing should be allowed to have"😁👍
Maybe your daughter will let you borrow some Red fingernail polish? For the button, Joe...Not your toe nails!!😃
Can the machine be ran without the shaker table? I can see this being nice option is a guy does not have the disc cleaner but in your case. It just makes for 2 messes to worry about. Also...any equipment I have ever ran with a shaker table also caused fatigue to metal, brackets and bolts loosening over time besides being noisy...The whole machine could rust away to nothing in 200 years and that Kubota engine will still be sitting there running! Awesome engines...👍
Hi Wayne!!😀😀
I was thinking the same thing. The disk cleaner should definitely take care of all the trash.
Take care buddy!!😀👍💚
Logger Al
@@aldredske6197 Howdy Al..🤠
Yes...the disc cleaner does a really good job by itself...IMO
I am just not sure if machine will allow it to operate without it. I am sure the Japa guru will let us know. Be safe today!
Wayne, I like your conclusions! A "disk cleaner/roller" makes the shaker grate redundant.
I am guessing the "box blade" creates lots of debris, hence the shaker grate is a necessity. Otherwise, the debris would build up, and clog up the out-feed to the conveyor?
Its possible the shaker grate noise and vibration could create user fatigue? I am not too excited about it. I think Joe should make this decision in a few months of use.
Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A fascinating video and very informative. I have no doubt you are working on some form of roofing to protect your new toy from your unforgiving Ohio weather and also to enable you produce firewood in the rain as you have some serious investment dollars to recover. Hopefully you will follow my long held advice to acquire a backpack blower to keep the 405 as clean and tidy as your split logs.
@@ohiowoodburner The roof before winter I hope for you and your equipment.
Wow! What a machine. It solves all the problems I seen in the smaller one. Now all you need is some shade! Take care!
That perfect split is an absolute game changer! That is something I always think about with the big processors. You always have to resplit. This is a pretty nice machine
Thanks Joe. I’ve been away. WOW The 405 really rocks.
It sure is nice to see someone get a processor, and then not to have to wait a month to see actual videos of it! Good job Joe!
I would not have known you were nervous, unless you told us this!
I dont expect a "Perfect Operator" option on the 405. It was great to see perfect firewood coming out immediately with no serious hassle and delays.
I also liked the fact that the outfeed did not get "all cludged up" with firewood refusing to get pushed out to the conveyor!
That "little diesel" reminds me of a "small Duramax" on the Chevy Silverado pick ups. It just hums along with no complaints!
Your "rollout" was not a failure, it was a grand slam. This 405 is a serious threat to all other brands not having the patented "perfect split".
Serious machine for sure. I like the diesel engine for sure. The splitter design makes great sense. If I were 60 again and had the place for one of these and a sawmill, I believe it could make some serious cash. Blessings. Practice makes better. Remember, four stages of learning - you don't know what you don't know, you know what you don't know, practice, and automatic.
You make a good point concerning the buttons on the Joystick, no chance of feeling them with thick gloves, in the freezing winter
I highly recommend saving the scraps as you call them into a wheelbarrow and dumping them next to the wood stove in you garage/barn for heating in winter. It’s wood, might as well use all parts of the logs.
A shovel big enough to fit in the fire door should be adjacent to the stove so you get everything burnable into the firebox sawdust included.
Food for thought
That's hugely impressive, and you're making a very presentable and consistent product in a single operation.
I'll concur with Big Rodders when he advises getting all that expensive equipment under cover of some sort. It'd add considerably to the longevity and residual value of the equipment, and make operating it in less than ideal weather much more agreeable.
That number '4' on the infeed scale is in Decimetres. 4 Decimetres = 40 Centimetres = 400 Millimetres = 15.748 Inches. Near enough to 16 Inches for Government Work! :-)
LOL Thanks Ivor. I remember in 2nd grade...circa 1974...my teacher was teaching us the metric system and told us within TWO years the USA will be completely converted to the metric system LOL
@@ohiowoodburner when the start shorting packages it is too easy to see with the metric system it dropped from 2000g to 1750g to now 1500g even the simple can see. But go from a half gallon to a quart and 3 cups they think they are getting MORE! 😞
Now THAT"S a dream machine if I ever saw one. Hope one day I'll be able to add it to my arsenal.
Stay tuned Howard. I will keep showing vids to give you a better view. So far I am loving it!
Please give Logger Jesse a special thanks for building the road and the platform for the back 40 move. A friend and a hard worker like him is invaluable.
To God be the Glory for what He is doing for you and your personal family and for your youtube family.
It is exciting to see what a sole proprietor can do with creativity and persistence. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and watch your step. We don't want any twisted ankles.
Log Hauler Jesse is certainly part of the team and there's no way I could have done this without him!
Nice! What a machine! Looks like it saves you a couple steps. Another channel I watch has a big blue and orange processor and he's always having to do re-splits...what a pain that would be. Japa for the win!
That should make your life better! Looking forward to your modifications for dealing with the waste and your ideas to make money from them.
The 405 is awesome!
The perfect split lives up to it's name! I like it 🙂
Awesome Joe!! You just have to get use to it. I already know that your production just went up conservatly 3 fold. You won't be spending near the time processing and can grow your customer base as long as you can get the logs.
That's an incredible machine and you looked like you know what you're doing, ran it like a pro!
@@ohiowoodburner Who was your camera man? I guess I should say Girl. HaHa
That is a very impressive machine. Very well thought out except for a few of the buttons that you mentioned but I'm sure once you get used to them it will be a no brainer. To me it's definitely the way to go if you're buying truck loads of firewood poles and your goal is to make smaller split premium firewood like you do Joe. Dave
Very nice when I saw it the first time they delivered it I was on the phone with Bob I have a 365 and love it but I can see how much more can be done and more consistent
Everything has a trade off. Certainly the 365 is a beast, is much more portable and smaller foot print but the 405 is something that cannot be ignored
Really like the way it works!! Once you fet really used to it wood should fly through. Have a Safe Day
Forests is the most important natural resource in Finland. The land is covered with forests and the industralisation has been developed basing on forest industry. It's not a suprise there are many of this kinds of innovation. Also harvesters like Ponsse and John Deere are finnish made.
That machine is so fancy next upgrade it will create your bundles for you too!!
Very nice processor. I love the splitter feature on it. Keep up the good videos.
Once you become more familiar with the controls your speed will be increased dramatically and so will your productivity. Great video Joe and you rock. 👍
Joe, It looks like the 405 will be a hit. It sure looks likes it delivers good looking firewood product. I am looking forward to seeing all your future upgrades to the back 40.
That 405 is a sweet machine. That box wedge makes beautiful firewood. With the waste, seems a shame you couldn't run a boiler to run the machine.
Joe, my friend, I greet you, well, it's just a spaceship, and you control it easily😁👍
Kudos to whomever had the forethought to patent that box wedge design to prevent other manufacturers from utilizing that system. Perfect tool for creating value added sized firewood.

Fuelwood is related to Jappa through Warwick. Did you check out the Fuelwood models? They have the 405 beat. Now you will need to upgrade again and they will get another sale out of you.
The type of splitter I am referring to punches continuously from the side.
Joe its like everything you will get used to it. its a monster of a machine wow the wayit cuts the twisted logs and cuts the wood it is amazing that machine
Morning joe really pleased for you. you have a bigger machine the 405 now everything is on the up for you all you have to do is keep cutting and stacking you are doing really well i no you will miss the 365 but now is the time you move on wish you all the best keep safe untill next time.
Nice machine Joe, just like anything else new it will take time to operate the machine without thinking about it. When your instincts take over that is when you will relax and less stress will follow. Think of it like hitting a baseball, the more you relax the better hitter you become.
Very true. You can't think and hit at the same time! It always comes back to Yogi!
Great machine you got there. Congratulations. Won't take you long to master it.
My take away is box wedges while fast make a lot of scrap. I have one on a 12-22 and honestly we don't use it that much for that reason. I'm mainly using a Axis at the moment which isnt perfect either. While more labor intensive it does make really clean wood so that's a pile of equipment I dont need. Definitely a nice unit that seems to getter done. I can see your operation growing by leaps and bounds, my day job still has the golden handcuffs on me but I'm not far away from what your doing. I'm trying to come up with the missing link on round automation for the Axis. That's the killer part of the operation, keeping the splitter full while my partner is splitting. A processor has all that covered.
Great camera work! Another nice Japa tutorial. I can see why it’s a better machine for your mission. It’ll be fun to see your efficiency improve with each rep. Congratulations on your OWB success and all the best!
Very nice machine Joe It does produce a perfect split every time well done . 👍🔥🔥🇨🇦
I have a Cord King, but the 405 looks nice too. Makes small firewood which is great. Thanks for sharing Joe.
Mesmerizing. It looks like Japa has a well designed unit. You may want to build a platform over to your left so that you are not stepping into a "hole" when you guide the logs onto the conveyor. Happy cutting!
I had thought of that already LOL. I had a big off cut there but figured I would break my ankle LOL
Mother Mary the good lord has brought us the chosen machine! That 405 can eat some hard wood. The whole process is absolutely mind boggling. I can’t put into words the way this machine makes me feel. God bless you my good friend. May the lord be with you now and forever amen.
Long time watcher. First time commentor. I’ve been curious about the Japa 405 ever since I seen the demo in one of your other videos.
It really seems like they’ve thought of everything with it. Beautiful product it kicks out. For a small to medium size producer, it and an Axis for the big big stuff seems like a great combination. Now just need a bulk storage system that makes sense and the sky’s the limit.
Thanks so much for commenting. What took you so long!?!?! I agree I need a stacking machine !!!
That japa 405 must be the best splitter out there, the reverse on the ram is just perfect, I’ve seen others that just jamb up at the splitting wedge. Makes a great job.
Hey Joe! Great video showing the new features and the demonstration of the operation of the 405 processor. Very impressed with the increased power and speed of the cut off saw and the spitting ram. The most impressive part of this new processor is the design and function of the splitting knives. The design of the knives produce a beautiful and uniform finished firewood product. The firewood coming out of the knives is perfectly dimensioned for the needs of your wood customers! Very big improvement in your processing capability! Thanks for the excellent demonstration!
Thanks Randy. I will keep posting vids of the 405. It seems pretty good so far!
Joe Milwaukee makes a thin rubber coated cut resistant glove that would be perfect when using the processor. I bought them at Home Depot and used them to stack all my heavy furnace wood. They where like iron and you would still have great finger feel when using the joystick on the processor.
So satisfying to watch.....
That's definitely best I seen yet
Joe nice video good set up
Wish I had 405 40 years ago. I'm just thinking how much wood I could of split. You are lucky.
That will be a sweet machine for ya. When I first seen your other one and I looked them up I thought about buying the 405 or the 435 just for the reason of the box wedge design. Should serve ya well for years.
The perfect split system looks awesome! There is a few functions here that could be less manual though. Like dropping the log in to the splitter should happen automagicaly when you advance the conveyer to cut the log again? The hold down for the log could maybe also be automated? nitpicking! Best machine i have seen so far that is not a 500 hp home made monster with a 6 feet spinning blade :)
High tech. Heck yeah man. I should watched this before the other one. Answered all my questions lmao. UA-cam mix puts em outta order.
