When working with wood, it isn't always easy to find ways to save labor, but that sounds like a good idea. Seems to work well. Sometimes we have to listen to our brains, even though we are guys.
haha well said james
Great work Joe. Video work was spot on. I’m on the other side of the state from you. but it’s been a heat wave to remember. Stay cool.
waaayyy too hot for firewood. No doubt
Hello Joe, Reminds me of Running a bicycle after getting off my Suzuki katana 1100😂👍🏼🪵🇺🇸
That is about right. I immediately noticed how much slower it was, the saw motor etc lol
Great video!! I agree on the different processors, but chainsaws are cheaper!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
haha. Thanks Dave!
Looking good Joe 😎. But man that’s a nasty smash on that top left hand.
Once my vision restored I was able to put some band aids on it!
David from Kansas City here, good job on the flexibility of your operations, the new woodyard gives you that... Also having extra tools laying around😂
Thanks David!
Use the Japa 315 firewood processor and believe it or not can double as a Food Processor if desperation necessitates the need for a food processor! Those carrots , potatoes and tomatoes will taste just fine when processed by the Japa 315 !!!! You will be glad YOU BOUGHT this dual purpose machine and your fruits and vegetables will scream thank-you from your bowl!!!🇨🇦😂
Another great video. I have an old baseball pitching shoulder injury that would probably prevent me from reaching up high, but that machine sure looks fun. Especially when you figured it out and made it go fast
Who said Ohio boys don’t have rhythm??
Thanks right!
I watched this video on Thursday. I think you may be in Germany. I am in Wetmore Colorado this morning. We will be driving up Pikes Peak today. The load has announced they have had enough, they want to go back to Ohio.
That's a nice processor. I just finished making one and tried it out yesterday for the first time... All steel, no lifting wood, no bending over, and I have less than $125.00 into it. It's on a trailer and can be towed down the road. I don't make UA-cam videos, but if you'd like to see it, I can make a video and send it to you.
Thanks for watching Johnny
Thats the way to cut down cycle time 👍good job Joe
Hi Mike. It sure is!
I got a firewood processor in my house, its called a fireplace.😜
haha. Same
They make pretty cool firewood processors that are a skid steer attachment should look into it you can sit in the air conditioned cab and get out of the heat
So, I am watching this video.. thinking to myself... "It wasn't that long ago, that I was watching this guy making his first firewood bundles in his garage.... " A true human success story
Thanks for the nice comment Andy. I am always grateful for how everything has happened and consider myself one of the lucky ones! It is nice to know you have been supporting us from our modest beginnings! Joe
@@ohiowoodburner - Big Rodders in Ireland here. There's an old saying along the lines that the harder one works the luckier one becomes. I think that applies also to Maestro Joe.
So glad you have the room in the new woodyard to be able to have things staged in the appropriate timing for it's usage. Brain power at it's best in the summer heat.
Brains and heat dont mix well for me Bill!
Don’t raise the bridge, lower the river lol
Would a fourway split have been better?
Joe that seems like the perfect machine for those smaller logs.
I think so. The gas engine is a big deal
Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I know the 315 was loaned to you but for the average Joe (forgive the pun) who forked out circa $70k for a 405 he would need a huge amount of skinny logs to justify forking out an additional $25k for the smaller machine. However, it does prove the point that Japa has a complete range of machines to cope with the demands of all levels of the firewood industry. I believe from international news that you have been hard hit with serious heat in recent times - thank goodness for the roof over your 405. I have a fan that I use when splitting in all seasons - you could hook one up to your power pack.
i think your analysis makes a lot of sense BR. And yes it has been serious hot here Ohio. Certainly has slowed my production!
Right tool for the right job 🤷 Good video👍 Oh btw, Ken from Ken's Kuts needs a recommendation for a 2nd wheelbarrow
haha Tell Ken to get the AM Leonard 6cf steel tray with steel handles. Greatest in the world!
Can the switch at the back of the handle be adjusted so that you're not reaching up and back as far? That might improve your ergonomics and less fatigue on your back. 🤔🤷
I'm not sure about that. the handle seems fine however.
Ha ha ha! re: Processor, “slightly more expensive than a chain saw”. 🤣 You ARE the brains of the operation. Elaine from Canada here, what a lovely day and beautifully laid-out property to get things done Joe. Great camera angles and editing too, enjoy. Cheers.
Processors are cheaper than a chainsaw gash to the leg!
Thanks Elaine! I can always count on your recognizing my humor!
@@thefirewooddoctor I have a friend do that it’s not a pretty sight for sure.
Nice video ,,, thanks for sharing ..also Your a dam good worker. That’s a huge part of it Craig
Thanks Craig!
Hey Joe we don’t have a dealer up here in New York roughly what is it for 315 run for price
check with metsamachines.com all their prices are on the site. Also Fox Forestry in Maine may be a closer option for you
So I recently discovered the channel and so far I’m enjoying everything but this wood yard is this all yours? I know it’s a personal question. It’s just that’s so much wood. But now if it’s a shared yard with other people. it totally makes sense but anyway, I’m watching the video now. 😊
Thanks for watching Snip. Yes this is all my yard. Firewood is my livelihood. I only sell "seasoned" firewood so I must stack it and let it sit for 4-6 months. This inventory is in constant perpetuity. Honestly I think in the professional wood yard milieu my yard is prob smaller than most. The big difference is I stack my wood. Most either split-and-sell or heap into a huge pile. Again, thank's for watching. I hope you come back!
@@ohiowoodburner wow that’s pretty amazing seems like like you got everything figured out thanks for the reply I wasn’t sure if you would or not looking forward of more of the fire wood videos :)
Stay cool Joe
to slow!!
How are you getting the logs up on the machine? I don’t see how anyone makes money off selling wood anymore it’s just as economical do use gas or electric for the price of wood. 🤔
My who channel is about how to make money selling firewood. The secret that I can give you is to study how everyone else is dong it and then DO THE OPPOSITE
@@ohiowoodburner I’m retired, bad knees, couldn’t do it anymore :-(. I just thought back in the day when I used wood for heat it got where it was just as cheap to pay for LP or electric. Not as warm and the nice smell of wood tho :-).
Prefect size logs for that machine
They sure were. I am curious to see how it can do even larger ones. Seemed strong enough
As a firewood business do you run under an LLC? Do you carry insurance?
Yep... I have preached that on this channel forever. Filing as a business and operating like one separates you from your competition. It is not as difficult or expensive as you would think. Professionalism is what is most missing from our industry
@@ohiowoodburner Thank you Sir.
Joe, great video. I have one question for you about the 315 JAPA, I see you only using your right hand, what or how do you move the log ahead for the next cut. I presume you do it with the handle but it didn’t look like it was going left to right or vise Vera. TY for sharing the video. Have a great day.👍😉😉 Dave D. from Maine.
The belt infeed advances when you push the handle forward. The ram and the infeed belt work together
Great Video as always Joe. Nice Machine for your Smaller Logs. Nice Looking Maple Wood also my Friend. To Hot and Humid out up here in New York to do anything. Should Break tonight into Tomorrow. Hoping to get back to Cutting Somemore Wood. Stay Safe, and Hydrated my Friend. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
waaay too hot for me. Need to stay inside in the AC!
Hi Joe, you worked hard to get all of the loaner equipment but i am still jealous. It is just me and stihl ms 462 and a few months ago upgraded from a box store splitter to an eastonmade 12-22. Less wear and tear on me now for sure. I have been subscribed for your channel for yrs and I appeciate you and your channel. Continued success to you.
Thanks so much brian. I am grateful for all of this and certainly value my relationships with manufacturers!
I use a Hakki Pike processor that is perfect for processing logs with a 4" to 8" diameter. The person who supplies me with logs has a larger processor that doesn't work well with smaller logs, so he sells me his smaller logs instead. I take his culled material. It's all a matter of scale. The thing about smaller-diameter logs is that you can move them around manually without too much effort. Great video, but I do wonder how much brain power should be credited to the videography?
My camera operators are the heart and soul of OWB YT channel. They make me look much more competent than what I really am
Can this machine be ordered without the log lift in order to save some money? I feel just feeding it with a tractor/skidloader and forks is easier.
I believe it can. It is an ala carte purchase. Some are PTO power which make them even more affordable. I can attest that they work as advertised. Fun too
Great vid on using your equipment to its strengths. I really enjoyed visiting you at the woodyard…you’ve got a very useful layout there. Have a good day everyday, Joe. 👍
Thanks Dave!
Joe get a big processor them you don’t have to cut them toothpick in half . Save a lot on time in the wood 🪵 yard .
My 405 does just fine.
If you can afford it, two processes is always better than one.❤❤
I agree with you on that Tony
Why you acting like you never had a 315?. I remember you cutting and pushing up logs by hand for a good while.
That was a 365. It was fully hydraulic and the infeed worked independently from the ram
@@ohiowoodburner maybe a pto 315?
I must've missed something. You bought a smaller processor to be more efficient at processing the small logs?
I did not buy it. Metsamachines gave it to me to run smaller logs. I don't have much experience with it but I figured it out eventually
@@ohiowoodburner is so much easier to run small logs like that in a processor than buck them in a pile like I do.
Thats the last thing thing you want to see in a wood yard sawdust what an utter disgrace 😂
yes
To assist in enhancing your UA-cam algorithm, I'm viewing, liking and commenting from Quakertown, Pennsylvania, USA.
Thank you sir
Hi Joe: That’s a nice little processor.
It works great. Seems Japa has the processor figured out
Great vid Joe! Just like a true craftsman, an artist paints with more than 1 color and more than 1 brush.🤠👍👍👍
haha. I am the Vermeer of firewood!
@@ohiowoodburner that, sir, is an excellent reply👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thoes came out before then I thought. 😉👍
Thanks Dan
Great video joe its nice to see you back a/work
Thanks bob
Nice.
Just ordred an JAPA 315+ road version
awesome! Did you order from Metsa? Make sure you tell them I said hello

I am from Denmark 🇺🇸🇩🇰😉
Great video, that is a handy processor.
Thanks sir. It sure is. Fun to run also
Another excellent video Joe 😮😊❤
Glad you enjoyed it Todd!
More brain than wasted time and work!
My brain was wasted some back in the 80's and early 90's

Hey 👋 Joe
hey
Hi Joe
Hi there
I did not see You at the Frenzy ?? Dan has come to yours a few times ....
The Frenzy was not Dan's event. but you are correct on both observations.
Congrats! The saw and ram are working at almost capacity. I was wondering when you would get there.
It looks so easy from the recliner.
Next up, an umbrella to get you out of the sun.
Yes I need to come up with away to attach one to the Japa...shade is good
OAK FARM FIREWOOD 🪵 got the best set up on U tube for doing firewood 🪵. 😊
