Coming back to this video after your shout to Earthworm in your latest video (about the criteria for discussion the GOAT) and this play does seem very special. I don't really have the meta knowledge etc. to appreciate it as much but the fundamental appeal definitely comes across.
Gengar and Starmie are two other Skarm switch ins that would HATE getting Brave Birded on the switch. Gyarados and Salamence at the time too- quite a few mons that want to use Skarm as an opportunity point, but whose game and whole function is predicate on having the HP to set up or survive a Pursuit by staying in.
Y'know this is something that I've learned and where I've often lost my cool and still sometimes do If you wanna get good, especially in a tournament setting, you can't just make predicts and expect your opponent to make the "right" or most optimal play Because a lot of options are just fine, the game keeps going And ofc at the top small things are what break everything, what make the difference usually But you have to consider that your opponent could have an ai moment and click a random move, ofc not really a random movez but they can just predict and set hazards on your switch out or stay in when they maybe should switchz click an attsck instead of spiking and you have to deal with that So many times do I predict my opponents move and tell myself it's not worth acting on the predict, and Iit turns out I was right z they didn't expect my threat figuring I'd switch or click something else and that's fine. I didn't throw, I didn't risk the game I was expecting hazards to come onto my field at some point and I can play on. Sure sometimes both options are hard or impossible to cover safely but that's why midgrounds and sacs exist And sometimes games do get lost to random predicts, 50/50s are part of the game and it's better to be chill about them no matter who you lose to Whenever I throw a fit I'm honestly kinda ashamed of myself afterwards [Still waiting for that vid on midgrounds, I know you're planning to make it ;) ]
Thanks to WestSasori for this lesson, I was so mad though when they told me Haven't beaten them once to this day, but also we haven't played since that day lol
What if Regigigas and Slaking had a neutral ability (think like Pick up which has no competitive effect), instead of the two worst in the game. How good would they have been?
Slaking would quite possibly be a top-tier uber, especially in Gen 8 because of a Ghost immunity. The only bad stat is the SpDef, but the massive HP stat helps compensate a lot, and that movepool is absurdly good. Regigigas doesn't have the best movepool (notably lacking in setup options), but that BST alone is really strong, and it had lots of good utility options and coverage.
Rocks were better in gen 4, in fact best move in the game since they hit everything but Magic Guard Clef and were ez to set + only needed to be set 1x (spikes were and still are very influential tho), in gen 2-3 Rocks didn't exist and neither did in RBY.
no team preview would help with the current trend of ppl building against their opponent instead of making a good team for tours, I still hold out hope that one day it'll receive a ban or be gone from a newer gen cartridge so there'll be a new gen we don't have it plus that last mon reveal is so hype
All gens are Team Preview gens. Gen 1 official competitive format (NC97) used team preview done manually by showing each other your team before battling. Then when Stadium released it was done through that. Gen 2 & 3 were always played through Stadium/Colo/XD which had Team Preview. The decision to play without Team Preview in Gens 1-3 is an arbitrary one made by Smogon, who decided to ignore official competitive formats and assume that the entire competitive scene should be built around link battles with no external rules.
Smogon tiers simulate cartridge games, not the ones you mentioned. Aside from Sleep clause, which was a necessary feature borrowed from Stadium. There's a reason there's RBY OU and RBY Stadium OU
@@Nadid_Dhrabb Yes but Nintendo Cup 1997, the very first official competitive format, still used Team Preview despite it not being possible on cart. Players just showed each other their teams before battling.

Best play was Shaymin Quick Attack killing a 4% Scizor on an old Heatah Fajita video
True haha, there's this highlight in their generic
I’d love a video on the history of roar/whirlwind throughout the generations :)
never heard of that post, incredible
What if Ghost was special and Dark physical in Gen 2 and 3?
Yooo that's a good one
RS Gengar with a set of
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt / Taunt
- Ice Punch / Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
No more houndoom usage
I thought for sure this would benefit Dusclops, then I look, and its special attack is even worse than its attack
Tyranitar’s Pursuit would be ridiculous

Best play was when Blunder Bloom Doomed the Keldeo on the switch with special Lando-T

The wording was something like "you get better by making safer plays for longer/more often"
this is why the best move for electivire to click t1 when it comes in with a motor boost is ice punch

Judging by Palafin they go straight to ubers

BKC can you do a video explaining why spikes was better than stealth rock in the early gens? Or atleast in gen 4

Also funnily enough Smogon actually emulates Colo/XD for Gen 3, not GBA, since the switch mechanics on PS are not based on port priority.

Compare this debate with team sheets in Gen 9 😑 Deduction of team comp is gone from anything beyond acting in single turns.
