Dasha getting excited in anticipation of the creature effects when she recognized Stan Winston's name in the opening credits is part of makes her so wonderful. Most reactors wouldn't remember who he is. In the original script, Arnold was supposed to win the hand to hand fight like he does in most of his action movies, but it was Arnold who said that wouldn't make sense because "He's a monster. I'm just a man," so the script was rewritten with Arnold getting his butt kicked and having to use his guerilla warfare expertise to defeat the Predator. In the novelization, the Predator didn't have the invisibility/cloaking technology shown in the movie. Instead, it could shape shift to mimic something after it touched it. Dasha would love "Twins" (1988) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. It's really funny and touching, and Arnold gets to show his acting ability. Since Dasha loves action movies and finds Hollywood versions of Russians interesting, she should watch "Nobody" (2021) starring Bob Odenkirk and Aleksey Serebryakov (an actual Russian actor from Moscow) as the chief Russian bad guy. It's got great action and is very funny too.
He's a smart man. After all the things his team unloaded on it, why would he be able to beat it? If Billy couldn't beat it either? Yeah. That's what makes this movie scary.
@@JustinWillisDevil240Z Dasha seems very alert in her thinking generally - plenty of reactors talk aloud, but Dasha's rare in that she *thinks* aloud, answering her own questions, quickly deducing the implications of certain images, etc. Many reactors are quite passive viewers and miss a lot of the things Dasha takes in her stride.
@@petersvillage7447 I have noticed that a lot of reactors are just straight up dumb or have nothing interesting to say about what they are reacting to. Dasha is very much the opposite, She is quick and notices subtle details. Things I would easily miss on a first viewing.
@@JustinWillisDevil240Z There's a bit in Alien where Brett stops and refreshes himself under falling drops of water - and I've seen other reactors say this is weird, or that it makes no sense, or that it must mean the alien has broken something - but only Dasha answered her own question with '...well, he's the engineer and he thinks it's okay, so it must be normal.' I fear most people are taught to be passive viewers these days, so it's very refreshing to see somebody constantly applying their intelligence to what they're watching.
She said several times the muscles were making her overheat, then 21:20 she said it loud and clear with just with her eyes, no words needed. Typical Dasha. Hilarious and sweet at the same time.
@@pow9606 Lots of people are surprised and don’t understand that the Predator goes to earth for a safari. We hunt animals all the time and want the excitement but of course want the odds to be in our favour. Hence our weapons.
Dasha is the sharpest Movie Reactor, she has an acute attention to detail, not just for the scenes, characters, actors and plot but also for those who are behind the camera and in production. Her deductive reasoning rivals the best of YT Reactors and moviegoers in general. She also possesses a most entertaining, eclectic, uniquely colorful and adorable animation in her various expressions and exclamations and she can do it all while still listening to dialog and effects. She picks up on things so many others miss or make the wrong conclusion, even when Dasha is wrong, she often gets it right, some may not get what I mean by that but I think most of us who follow her know exactly what I mean by that. Dasha is such a joy to watch... DASHA gets my vote for Best YT Reactor Award.
She thought billy was trying to off himself when in fact he was denying the yautja first blood....so no, she is not the sharpest reactor by a long shot. Entertaining, enthusiastic, cute as a button with a big heart, but not the sharpest buddy. No offence, but I definitely wouldn't take your advice on reactor quality.
I have watched this movie many times and 35 years later I finally know that the Russian guy said before he shot the other guy. Thank you for another russian lesson. You are wonderful.
Fun fact: the "ain't got time to bleed" actor is Jesse Ventura, who later become Governor of Minnesota. Arnold Schwarzenegger of course became Governor of California, and Sonny Landham, who played the tough native American tracker, ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Kentucky.
Fun Fact: Jessie was once "Followed" by Federal Agents ... he assaulted them, tied them up, put them in his trunk. Delivered them to the office and said "Next time, I won't be nice"
Probably one of the reasons he didn't win in Kentucky is the fact that during the making of Predator, he had a bodyguard with him at all times on set. Not for his protection but for everyone else's protection. It was required by the insurance company to underwrite the film.

25:05 If you’re wondering why the Predator let Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) go, you may recall an earlier scene in which Dutch told Anna (Elpidia Carrillo) not to pick up a gun from a recently-killed person, as this was what protected her from the Predator’s attacks (“Leave it. He didn’t kill you because you weren’t armed. No sport.”). I guess the Predator didn’t want to kill Dutch for the same reason at that point, so it engaged him in a more-honourable way: a hand-to-hand fight. The Predator “talking” is just the recordings that it had already made of people’s voices. When it responded to Dutch’s “What the hell are you?” it was just using a recording of his voice, albeit much slower due to the damage done to it at that point. Its final laugh was actually the laugh that it recorded from Billy (Sonny Landham) when he reacted to that joke earlier. One of the men in the helicopter at the end is actually the man who was inside the Predator suit: Kevin Peter Hall. He was over seven foot tall, so his height helped make the Predator more imposing. Sadly he died in 1991 aged just 35 (four years after _Predator_ first came out).
He actually wanted to test his strength because he could see he was just like all the other humans he killed, but he outsmarted him. He alluded him and so he wanted to see how strong he truly was. Great scene and even better movie.
Arnold is pound for pound, one of the greatest action stars ever. Some more great action fillms are "Total Recall" and "Conan The Barbarian". For something more lighthearted and funny, check out "Kindergarten Cop", "Junior" or "Twins". And as a side note for the fellows, stay with any woman who looks at you the way Dasha looks at Arnold or Chris Hemsworth.
also the king of one-liners. "stick around" "conan what is best in life?" "to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." "get to the chopper" " it not a tumor"
No one has done a reaction to End of Days yet, so it's about time for someone to react to it. That movie is very dark and serious with a different side of Arnie.
This is without a doubt the manliest movie ever made, though the 80's were loaded with plenty of others, including more from Arnold, Sly Stallone and some others; this spawned a massive franchise that consists of six total films, comics, graphic novels and videogames
To elaborate on your comment about their muscular manliness: The 80s had a lot of masculine action heroes. This movie is one of them but it has a twist. Usually the heroes like this are nearly unstoppable, like Arnold is in so many movies. But when faced with the predator Arnold stood no chance no matter how strong he was, and how many weapons he had. He had to change tactics and use strategy and cleverness to win, rather than brute strength. It may seem cheesy in many ways today, but it was such a welcome difference in action in a time where it was usually just explosions and muscles winning the day. It is why it is one of my all time favorite action movies.
Okay, Dasha, early in the movie when they were saying that a "heat-seeker" must have destroyed the helicopter, they were talking about a heat-seeking missile. The Predator is basically an alien big game hunter who needs to challenge themself with the most dangerous game possible. In fact, an inspiration for this was almost certainly the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" about a hunter who preys on his fellow men.
Adrian Brody's character Royce in Predators references a similar tone from Ernest Hemingway that once you have hunted man no other game prey seems sufficiently challenging a hunt by comparison.
I love how Dasha used to say she has a "fish-memory" but she literally can rattle off actors names and roles and can remember so many more things than the average person
“Okay, they all lost it!” Not really, Dasha. For that scene where they’re all firing into the forest at the same time, that’s actually an actual military tactic known as a “Mad Minute”, where you and all your squad mates select a specified target location where you think an enemy might be located, and for a full sixty seconds (one minute), you pump as much ammo as you can into that target area to either kill them or scare them out of hiding. It’s also part of military mindset and training, from everything I’ve heard. When an unknown enemy contact gets one of your guys, you don’t ask questions, you just fire at will.
He's definitely the best action movie star of all time. This film and terminator. Beyond legendary. The concept of this film is so damn good. The fact that they kept the appearance of the Predator hidden until the end was genius and what building suspense is all about. I also loved that they showed us what the predator saw through its eyes and unique vision. That made it feel like it WAS from another world. This movie was pure awesomeness and Arnold was perfect as Dutch.
I love Anna's story arc in this film. She goes from viewing the Americans as her enemy (which they are, politically) to realizing they're all up against a demon from local folklore. After that, politics be damned, we're sticking together against the damn Predator. By the end she even wants to pick up arms and fight alongside her former captors.
the guy who said "I aint got time to bleed" Is Jessie Ventura, a former "pro wrestler" for the WWE (back then WWF) and later became a governor in the United states, just like Arnold did in California. Jessie was the governor of Minnesota
Stan Winston is indeed a legend when it comes to creatures and visual effects in movies, and yes he did work on Aliens but he didn't create the original alien, that honour goes to H. R. Giger. I really loved your reaction to this movie and I really had no idea that the bad guys at the camp spoke Russian. Spasibo for that. :)
Winston also did a large amount of work on the first couple of Terminator films, Edward Scissorhands, The Thing, the first 3 Jurassic Parks, Avatar, etc. He's basically responsible for a huge chunk of the pop culture of the last 45 years.
2:38 --- The idea of face paint in obscure lines is to break up the image of a persons face. As humans, we're trained to recognize faces VERY quickly, but when you use camouflage paint, it confuses the eyes.
Yes, Stan Winston Studios built the Predator costume but it was Steve Wang that actually designed it. Same as H. R. Giger that designed the Alien Xenomorph.
We really appreciated your translations. I didn’t even realize they were Russians and my best guess was that raul was a person’s name! It was great after all these years of watching it to know what was actually being said. Your reactions were great!
Yes! All the years and all the times I've seen this, I never realized that there were Russian men in the camp! It explains why Arnold (Dutch) is so angry with Dillon, because the presence of Russian advisors changes the game completely, and Dutch would understandably not want to get involved in that kind of mess. Yet that whole aspect was handled so subtly in the film...totally brilliant.

2:20 "Long Tall Sally" by Little Richard 4:11 Your quick reaction from them tracking it to suddenly seeing the minigun was great. Arnold used one in Terminator 2, when they were in the laboratory, and he shot at the police cars. This time, it was used by the man who "ain't got time to bleed", Jesse "The Body" Ventura, former professional wrestler and future former Governor of the state of Minnesota. So, there are two future U.S. governors here, because Arnold became Governor of the state of California. It makes me wonder about the requirements. "What qualifies you to govern our state?" "Well... I was in Predator" 21:20 Yes, Dasha. Yes, indeed. hahaha Oh, the Predator's laugh at the end, was Billy's voice from when he laughed earlier at Poncho's bad joke. Hey Dasha, heads up. I'm sure you didn't know that the idea for the Predator creature came from the master himself. James Cameron. You have to see "Red Heat!" You said you wanted to see more American movies with Russian villains: In "Red Heat" Arnold is a *Moscow Police Detective* pursuing a Russian gangster in the US. He has to team up with an American detective (James Belushi) and overcome their differences to catch the bad guy, which of course leads to plenty of jokes, shootouts, and chases.
Another great reaction Dasha! It was nice getting the Russian translations from you again. Dasha geeking out over the fact that Stan Winston did the creature effects is so great. I love movie reactors who learn what work they like. Also, I hope you do Predator 2. It takes place in the city during a gang war. It's fantastic.
Predator's vision is called Thermal Imaging and it was filmed using a thermal imaging camera. Stan Winston was a legend for creating Predator and the Terminator robots and Alan Silvestri's score in films is always fantastic. Alan also composed the music for the Back to the future trilogy and I hear similarities between both films
Actually it wasn't, it's false-coloured. They _had_ a thermal camera, but in the steaming heat of a tropical jungle it couldn't see anything and so they gave up on trying to use it.
Billy the guy with the manchette knew he was going to die so chose to face it on his terms hand to hand. He sliced himself to deny the Predator the satisfaction of drawing first blood.
“We are nice people. True we have a lot of vodka shots, but we don’t skin people.” I believe you Dasha. If you are any indication, then the Russians must be a wonderful people. This movie was made at the tail end of the Cold War, when Russians were still portrayed in films as one of the go-to bad guys.
also, this is supposed to be in central or south america and the Soviets were very active in aiding communist rebel groups in those regions in the 80's.

Billy cuts himself so the Predator doesn't get to draw first blood. In some warrior cultures this is a ritual before battle. You can also see this ritual in Gangs Of New York.
I could write an essay about why this movie is so good. The pacing, the action, the one liners, the predator and how the team goes from being the hunters to being hunted and then into a last stand survival. Glad that you're looking into more Arnold movies. You should check out one of my favorite action film, Commando plus others from this time like The Running Man or Total Recall. So many movies to choose from :) Edit: Jean Claude Van Damme was supposed to act as the Predator. don't remember why exactly it didn't pan out.
Van Damme was pissed off he was gonna be hidden in a costume and not be able to use his fight moves. He had a strop and left, so they had to rehire someone to fill in
Growing up watching this movie I always thought the Predator was copying their voices and stuff to mess with them. I realized later in life that he's trying to mimic them the same way a hunter uses a bird call or deer antlers to attract and hunt prey by making their sounds.
Dasha, you are really the best. YOu are the first person to think the predetor is a girl in the jungle with long nails. I love it!!!! YOU literally made my day. Your reaction was so money. And it's only hot in your apartment, seeing all those strong men flex.
The predator in this movie was originally a very stupid looking orange suit worn by Jean Claude Van Damme....until he was fired and the Predator was redesigned into what we see here. Van Damm was replaced by 7 foot 2 inch Kevin Peter Hall who did an amazing job acting in a suit that weighed 200 pounds. The cast and crew said he was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.
I remember Kevin Peter Hall was on a short lived TV series called Misfits of Science. His special power was the ability to shrink down and become tiny.

"Heat Seeker" refers to a type of missile. It's designed to lock on to a heat source, allowing the missile to track the target and shoot it down. The American-built AIM-9 Sidewinder is probably one of the more well-known examples. "Old Painless" is the same prop that would later be used by the Terminator in T2. It's an M134 Minigun. It's NOT a hand-held weapon (unless you're a Terminator).
More specific then my own comment, but yes the minigun can be used as hand held weapon, plenty of youtubers have done it. Also there is a backpack system now to carry some ammo.
@@wepntech Not at full speed it can't. The one in the movie is running at 1,250 RPM and firing blanks. Also the big issue isn't ammo, it's power: here, it's a pile of truck batteries offscreen.
While Rambo uses many of the same guerilla tactics, Stylistically and thematically it's a VERY different film. It's not at all a macho action film. Rather it's built around an examination of PTSD and the scars left on veterans of the Vietnam War and the apathetic society they returned to. It's the Rambo SEQUELS that turned it into Just Another Action Franchise.
A "heat seeker" is a kind of missile. It tracks enemy aircraft by locking onto their heat they give off, it's an actual piece of tech used by a lot of weapon systems. As for the blue images with the red outlines of people, the word you're looking for in English is "infrared." It's also the way that heat seeking weapons work, locking onto the strongest source of heat it can find and following it, but you can also use goggles or special camera lenses to see it. I think the effect they used for the movie was not a genuine infrared lens, the jungle wouldn't be a uniform blue on a real one since things in the shade would be darker than things in direct sunlight, but it gets the point across. Stan Winston was a legend and one of my cinema heroes because of effects like this. Predator, Aliens, Terminator, Jurassic Park... some of the greatest special effects of a certain era went through his shop. My true respect for him is due to an interview he gave about the advancements made by Weta Workshop when they made Gollum for LOTR: The Two Towers. He called it the best performance in a movie he'd ever seen. At the time CG was becoming prevalent after Jurassic, there was a lot of fear in the effects industry that everything would be CG and all practical shops would be out of business. However, despite his shop being a completely practical effects shop, Stan began recruiting CG talent as soon as it was available, simply seeing it was a new way for artists to create characters. An incredibly forward thinking pioneer, he passed away in 2008 and the supervisors of Stan Winston Studio went on to found Legacy Effects, who carry on his amazing work. Love your reactions, glad you enjoyed Predator and all the muscles therein. :P

I think you're right. There's a few other good ones, but Dasha is the best.
She thought billy was trying to off himself when in fact he was denying the yautja first blood....so no, she is not the sharpest reactor by a long shot.
And Blain was right: the predator's weapon pierced his chest and he died without having time to bleed.
Fun Fact: Jessie was once "Followed" by Federal Agents ... he assaulted them, tied them up, put them in his trunk. Delivered them to the office and said "Next time, I won't be nice"

Thank you for reviewing this film. I used to watch it as a kid and I used to pretend to be Mac. He was and still is my hero
He was the pilot.
He actually wanted to test his strength because he could see he was just like all the other humans he killed, but he outsmarted him. He alluded him and so he wanted to see how strong he truly was. Great scene and even better movie.
Yep. Kevin Peter Hall contracted HIV from a blood transfusion. Extremely sad way to die.
Jesse Ventura “Blain” “ I ain’t got time to bleed” in this movie is a real life badass U.S. Navy SEAL.

Don't forget Red Sonja and King Conan
When the Predator is looking at Dutch... he is evaluating the quality of his skull as a trophy.
This is without a doubt the manliest movie ever made, though the 80's were loaded with plenty of others, including more from Arnold, Sly Stallone and some others; this spawned a massive franchise that consists of six total films, comics, graphic novels and videogames
It also crosses over with Alien a few times, most recently in an excellent trilogy of non-graphic novels by Tim Lebbon.
@@jeremyfrost2636, it was implied in my comment; I figured fans of the franchise would pick that up
Couldn't get away with it today sadly.. 😔
"They're so Testostaroni " Yes you can say that lol.
Stan Winston was one of the best special effects makeup creators in the business. Unfortunately he passed away in 2008. He was a true talent.
I was going to comment that if she doesn't yet know what a heat seeker is, she's going to find out REAL soon LOL
@@edwardroy3401 Yeah, I see that I wasn't the only (or first!) one to comment on that.
Well i think Mac kind of did "lose it" for a bit tbh. But who would blame him.
Thumbs up for recognizing Carl Weather’s name .😀
Great recall on the names in the opening credits! Great reaction as always! Well done wee one.😊
Interesting fact: the last thing Stan Winston did before he passed away was he created the armored suit for the first "Iron Man" film.
Billy is a hero.. He sacrificed himself to give the others time to escape.
the guy who said "I aint got time to bleed" Is Jessie Ventura, a former "pro wrestler" for the WWE (back then WWF) and later became a governor in the United states, just like Arnold did in California.

4:11 Your quick reaction from them tracking it to suddenly seeing the minigun was great.
"What qualifies you to govern our state?"
"Well... I was in Predator"
21:20 Yes, Dasha. Yes, indeed. hahaha
Oh, the Predator's laugh at the end, was Billy's voice from when he laughed earlier at Poncho's bad joke. There was a moment earlier, when we saw the Predator's hand - you mentioned his long nails. Hey Dasha, heads up. I'm sure you didn't know that the idea for the Predator creature came from the master himself. James Cameron.

Not at full speed it can't. The one in the movie is running at 1,250 RPM and firing blanks. Also the big issue isn't ammo, it's power: here, it's a pile of truck batteries offscreen.
I'm just curious to hear what the accent of a baby Arnold/Dasha would sound like😀😀😀
11:45 literally the most weapons fire ever depicted on film. The only movie that tops it for a scene is Heat.
I will assume you mean most weapon fire per person because I can name a ton of war movies with much more going on.
I saw this movie at the theatre when it was first released. It still holds up all these years later. What an awesome movie. Great reaction!
If you like this, you should watch “First Blood”, which is a very similar movie, minus the sci-fi elements.
Don't compare Rambo to this, while both good films, nothing in common.
