I've been watching your videos since 3am while I'm resting from a sinus infection. I have a suggestion for your slug problem on your hostas. I saved my egg shells in an oven proof casserole and when in preheating the oven i bake then till they're dried and crispy. When they cool place them in a Ziploc bag and crush them up. Sprinkle around the base of your hosta on top of mulch. It works the same as diatomaceous earth ( swimming pool filter media) , but won't clunk. And you're not adding salt to your soil. Hope you find this useful. Your garden is fantastic.
Oh thank you, I will definitely try that and soon, the fresh new leaves look beautiful and I don’t want anything nibbling on them! Hope you feel better soon Thanks for watching Jenny
That metal edging in the quadrant garden is just stunning. I love it. Everything looks gorgeous! And those metal bottomless planters are perfection. I actually copied your idea of removing the bottom of a plastic nursery pot, planting a serviceberry and then putting a boxwood hedge around it. I just completed it yesterday and am thrilled. So thank you for the constant inspiration. ❤❤❤
I’m so pleased you had good results, check out the Bunny Guinness video on bottomless pots- my source of inspiration!Had a bit of an epiphany re: pots, they are so expensive to buy really big ones and getting a blacksmith to make them is so much cheaper especially as you aren’t paying for a bottom which you then have to remove. Thank you for watching, it’s great sharing ideas, that’s what gardening is all about! Jenny
Don’t you just love the freshness of Spring growth? You have so many projects on the go I don’t know how you keep track of it all . I sowed some purple bell flower this year, out of ten seed only one germinated . I ended up going to the nursery and purchased a few more. I think you are about a week ahead of us,judging from the growth.Thank you for the lovely tour.
Yes, I just love this time of year with everything ahead of us. I get a surge of energy and I am so impatient (poor husband) and want everything done all at once! Trying to get plants moved while it is still spring and we can hopefully get away with it. The kids helping this weekend really pushed jobs on, I’m especially grateful to Josh for painting the trellis (I hate that job!) I grew purple bell flowers last year and only two germinated and then one of those plants died. The one that grew was lovely and so thought I’d give it another go along with thunbergia which I haven’t tried before. Thanks for watching and inspiring me to do a spring tour Jenny x
Exciting to hear about the water element. You have a beautiful space! I recently found your channel when searching for resources on pleached trees (I have since purchased some hornbeams to pleach in the next few weeks!) but have stayed to enjoy all of your other garden videos. You do great work!
Have you considered painting your new metal bottomless pots - or alternatively lining them with wood? Just to tone them down a bit. They have a very strong presence when the sun is hitting them. Just an idea. :)
Yes, I agree they are a bit shiny but they will oxidise over time I am told and fade to a ‘lead effect’. It is the same metal that the farmers use for animal feed and water and I have see them locally and they go a lovely colour (I hope mine will too). I will do a video when I come to plant them out and post a picture of what they will look like. Mike the Blacksmith made Bunny Guinness’ pots that she designed for ‘The Horatios Garden’ and they look beautiful and so mine should look the same over time. We will wait and see and hopefully the plants will soften the look too. Thank you for your comments and for watching Jenny
I use a great product called Topbuxus and I did a video on it last spring called ‘How to prevent box blight’, it goes through how to use it and how often. Giving the hedges a seaweed feed a few times a year is also a good idea to keep them healthy🤞 Thanks so much for supporting the channel Jenny
It’s funny to me that your borders are lower than the grass is. In my garden we have too much rainfall at once and clay soil (not a rock or stone in sight!) we elevate our borders above our grass always or they would drown. I would love to have some rocks. I have to bring in loads of amended compost to plant anything!
We all have our own problems, sometimes in our garden we hit pockets of pure sand, it’s surprising that anything grows. Every time it rains, loads of stones come to the surface, holding onto moisture is our problem. I will just keep adding compost and hopefully over the years it will improve. Thanks for watching Jenny
I didn’t use a company but instead went to a local blacksmith and he made it for me using steel. They are strong and made to fit perfectly and I suspect cost a lot less too, I really recommend doing it this way. Thanks for watching Jenny
Beautiful garden. Just stunning, can’t wait to see how it blooms in summer ❤🌱
Thank you and thanks for watching

Loved the garden tour your garden looks lovely, what do you feed and do you also need to use any spray on your boxus hedge please?

What is the name of the metal edging that you used please
I didn’t use a company but instead went to a local blacksmith and he made it for me using steel. They are strong and made to fit perfectly and I suspect cost a lot less too, I really recommend doing it this way.
