- I finally managed to build my dedicated 7inch Longrange Rig! :D
In this video I wanted to show you guys how it flies with a usual 4-6S LiPo,
compared to my DIY LiIon 4S2P 6240mah battery.
I just say: more than 15 minutes of Flighttime and tons of Range to play!

Are the Lithium batteries smaller than a lipo of same mah?
it wasn't the perfect weather to make a cinematic video out of it so i thought why not make something informative 🙂
yeah they are way smaller than a lipo..... i had a 6750mah lipo once and it weighted like 620g, this LiIon got 6240mah and weighs around 400g.......so they are lighter and smaller you just have to take care about the Amp draw cuz they can't take more than 30A as long as you don't put 2x 4S in parallel

but you should know that you have to build the pack itself on your own.
But Phillipp Seidel got a good manual how to do it. just look for DIY LiIon Endurance Batterie on his blog...... i just think it's in german but there are many pictures and stuff

the wooden cross at the top of the mountain marks the Rotgschirr (Südgipfel) - 2261 metres above sea level..
which means that the total elevation gain of this trip was roughly 1660 meters

That's considerable voltage sag though. Even for Li-ion cells. I pulled 4900 mah out of a 4S2P 6000 18650 pack and was still at 13 V. I'm using the LG HG2 cells. Then again, I wasn't flying in the middle of winter. So maybe the temperature has something to do with it too.

Thanks mate but there were way cooler dives down the mountains in my vids like the one in "go further"........when i orbited the cross on the top there my video faded out and i just could wait and hope and keep the sticks were they were 🤪😅😂

@@Guggu3d depends there are different reasons.......some were set up for religious reasons, some are just border marks or land marks in general and others got set up for other reasons like in memorian to dead soldiers and stuff
@@RewindFPV Cool! We set up triangles built from rocks, following them will always lead to a village. Good for dense fog which can quickly surprise people! Very clever old design!
@@Guggu3d yeah we mark old paths also with small stone "towers" but they don't necessarily need to lead into villages, it's just for marking paths in general :)

I'm building a 7" LR quad I bought last year. gepRC Mark2 frame with 7" arms, Matek F722-SE FC, HAKRC BLheli32 25A DSHot1200, Predator v3/Swift2/Runcam (Swift2), GoPro Sesh 5/Hero 5/Box 2, AKK 20000mW VTX. FrSky R9 868Mhz, GPS, og div HD cam.I will also be building 6S 3500mAh for starter. ALso got bi-props with lower pitch for the ION2508/1050kV T-motor men har fått feil propeleller av TBS.. got 5" instead of 7" 3 blade 7" props..

Maybe try some of those chemical had warmers on your battery. Lithium batteries don’t perform well in the cold.
but i actually think adding even more wait to a build that weights already 1kg isn't really feasible 😅
@@RewindFPV maybe true. It would be interesting to experiment though I think 🤔 for example my phone shut off saying battery was dead before when I was out in the snow. But after I warned it back up it still was at 50% battery. So if the battery is reduced by that much it could be worth the extra weight. Anyways Beautiful flight and fun to watch video 👍

Ziemlich geil.... Hab mir schon dacht, is des da Schiederweiher, aber na, du bist auf der anderen Seite unterwegs... :D Wenns Wetter mal besser ist, musst unbedingt bis zum Gipfelkreuz vom Priel und um die Spitzmauer fliegen, wenn sich das von der Reichweite dageht....
jup da priel wär a ziel was ich auch vorgehabt hätte aber da müsste ich höher starten weil ich sonst keine direkte videoverbindung mehr hab (berge und so 😅)
nur müsst ich dann das equipment auch irgendwo hochschleppen und sind leider alles forststraßen da drüben 😅

Großartig, Dude. Ein wirklich brauchbares Setup....
ne noch nicht ganz....... brauch noch größere motoren die von t-motor haben zu wenig drehmoment für die großen props
mal schaun hab erstmal 2507 1500kv motoren bestellt auf die pack ich dann die hq7040er props ich hoffe diese kombo bekommt dann noch dieses fette 1kg teil in die luft 😂
ausserdem hab ich vor aus dem 4S2P mittels XT-60 parallel verbinder einen 4S4P mit 12.480mah draus zu machen damit sollten sich dann flugzeiten um ne stunde ergeben........ wenn sich das 1,5kg teil dann überhaupt noch bewegt 😂😂😂
@@RewindFPV Klingt devinitiv nach einem Plan. Und wenn der Koloss sich dann für eine Stunde in die Lüfte erhebt, dann hast du den ultimativen "Longranger". Werde mir wohl auch ein LiIon-Akku basteln müssen. ;-)

How do you get your transmitter to read out your armed status and battery voltage?
that's pretty much a standard thing you can do with an open tx radio like frsky jumper or tbs 🤔

thanks mate but i'm actually not very active anymore on the fpv side of things...... it can be pretty costly you know so i started paragliding this year and it seems i don't have enough time to do both hobbies 🙈
Nice Flight, What kind of cells are you using. Im not aware of a 18650 cell that has 30A of discharge with more than 3000mah. Under high loads you cant get the full mah out of the cells so be carefully your pack probably has max of 5000-5500 mah of real capacity if you are using something like the VTC 6 or 30Q.
it's a sony konion 18650 vtc6....... the description of the seller states 30A with 3140mah or smth on these cells
@ Rewind FPV I build electric vehicles and test the cells and from my experience they only deliver 20A continuous. Nominal capacity is also 3000mah.
Sellers like to increase numbers but it’s always more reliable to test it yourself or look for the manufacture diagrams.

this is a reverb frame with 7inch arms, T-Motor F60 Pro 3 1750kv motors, HQ 7035 props, Kiss Setup with 32A esc's, BN-220 Gps, Crossfire Nano Rx and Crossfire running on 500mw....
and probably the most interesting part for you:
the vtx is a TBS 2g4 800mw running with a tbs 2g4 groundstation on a TrueRC Canada 2g4 Gatling high gain directional Antenna..... sadly without tracking atm
oh and it get's the juice out of a selfmade 6240mah 4S2P Li Ion battery
@@RewindFPV oh, the setup sounds like exactly mine. I am using iflight xl7, 2405 1722kv, iflight 50a esc, iflight 800mw, except props. I have gemfan flash 7052. My crossfire is 250mw tho, are you using cf micro or full size? I saw that before there is a mod for cf micro to use it 500mw . Maybe should check back again.
And this ground station, i might be able to do similar setup.

@@flayzeraynx actually don't know about the mod but i'd recommend the bigger crossfire anyway..... you've got enough headroom with it cuz you could even go up to 2W with it.

Surreal Video !! Could you please let us know exactly which brand/model of Li-ion cells you used ? With LiPo import ban thru Postal services in my country, I have built my own Spot Welder using Microwave Oven Transformers. But choice of good 18650 cells is crucial

Yep this was done with the immortal L antenna setup and i think back then it was running on 500mw cuz i didn't have an external battery :)

I mean the maximum rating LiIons were around 30 Amps you could easily overspike that and kill it at least that's what i was thinking.
Yeah i'm flying my ZOHD Talon GTO Rebel here and then but i don't think i'd have enough time these days to do a ton of videos sadly 😒

there's no rapidfire...... this 7inch runs on a tbs 2g4 groundstation

Nice! Loose the GoPro and put a Split instead. 1k is good enough for long range and the quality is decent. Even if you use it just as hddvr. It's also a good backup cam if you put a video switch or even another vtx on another band and go cross-band diversity.

i mean yeah..... the kwad is heavy AF but with this huge Pack on there i get tons of flight time...... i'm actually more thinking about using a different frame with thicker arms, bigger motors and props with more pitch to give it the needed momentum........ but still..... one pack weighs 400g if you add that on any kwad it will get so heavy that you can't think about freestyling it anyway

And the weight of the camera can mean more range, more time, snappier response like in a case you'd have to avoid a bird or, heaven forbid, a 1:1.
And if not for the snappy quad, maybe for even more flight time. A Gopro is about the same as two 18650 :D

Excellent video! I love that it was uncut with lots of info. Is it possible to fly the same route with no ground station? Also what was your output on the crossfire?
crossfire was on 500mw but i found out that with my simple antenna setup it's actually pretty risky and you should go up higher, for the groundstation, you definitely want 2,4ghz and i don't think such range is possible with smaller antennas that fit on a goggle

diesen Flug hab ich mit den HQ 7x3, 5x3 gemacht und als ich dann die HQ7x4x3 probiert hab hatte ich richtig schlimme oscilations das liegt aber rein an den props....... hab versucht mit den 7x4x3 zu tunen aber hat nicht wirklich geholfen
seitdem ich wieder die 7x3.5x3 drauf hab funktionierts wieder ziemlich gut egal ob mit höheren oder niedrigen PID's....... muss ehrlich gesagt noch herausfinden warum das so ist
Macht nichts kannst weitergeben ich möchte mal testen. Ich habe zum erste mal ein kiss fc montiert und möchte mal testen.
Ich fliege einen Armattan marmotte 7’‘ mit HQprop 7x3.5x3 und mit einen Hobbywing xrotor fc uns esc und oscilation ist brutal. Jetz möchte ich mit kiss v2 testen.

For long range, low kV is recommended. Why did you choose high kV motors and how will range change of you use low kV?
don't forget that i'm flying these motors on a 4s pack m8!
on 4s you usually fly 2300-2600kv in freestyle, on 6s 1700-1950.......so i'm flying 6s motors on 4s more or less and for 6s long range you'd use somewhat around 1250 or 1300kv

but tbh building and especially tuning a 7inch quad is hard enough especially to get it flawlessly working...... i was already thinking about building a 6inch instead
@@RewindFPV Agreed. Tuning is most important to ensure that only the necessary amount of current is drawn to enhance flight time.

bin auch aus at tirol 👍🏻👍🏻 fliege auch longrange in den bergen 😁 hab mir auch 6s li-ion akkus gebastelt aber 2 hab ich schon runter krachen lassen da ich zu viel A gezogen habe 😅😢 aber das macht sehr viel spaß ! weist du vl obs im betaflight ne option gibt um den max strom zu begrenzen würd das dann auch gerne auf einen switch legen um zwischen lipo und li-ion zu wechseln ... aber du benützt ja eig kein betaflight mit deinem kiss fc oder ?
also meines wissens nach gibts das nicht in bf....... du musst aber auch bedenken dass ich einen 4s2p fliege sprich 8 zellen insgesamt und die 4 in parallel schaltung, dadurch kann ich bis zu 60A ziehen und das reicht eigentlich
you flown this with L shape antenna setup like MrSteele build right? so no issue with range using this standar L shape instead of importal T antena for longer range..?

@@RewindFPV superb.. i fly 6inch and use it for long range and freestyle too.. so vertical antena mount maybe not the best choise for me because the mounting never be that durable in crash. and the horizontal mount i have many bad failsafe while using R9 system. time when the antenna point at me give so much drop in rssi. i know crossfire way better but i still having that traumatic momment :p but what i have just crossfire micro that only max 250mw.. hope it served me well

never had any failsafes since i fly crossfire..... it didn't even shout at me for low signal at my longest flights.
But I actually crank my standard crossfire up to 500mw with dynamic power off when i fly longrange....... maybe i'll even consider grabing an external battery for it and firing it up to 2W or so just to be sure 😂
Edit: I also never had any chop-offs with this L antenna since I fly...... except last weekend 🤦♂️

Your amp draw seems to be a little high.
I am assuming that is due to your above sea level altitude requiring a higher prop speed to generate the lift.
no i actually guess that i went a little high on the throttle to get this speed but this thing also weights more than 1kg so it might also be the weight 😅

My 7"rig weighs 750 grams all up without an action cam.
Thats with a 4500mah 4s lipo. With that battery I can get approx 18 to 20mins cruising around at 55kph (average speed) and a total distance of 18k.
Not got the radio gear to actually get out to that range (yet) but loving the potential.

tbh i don't know anymore which fw and what pids i had that time but i can tell you that the pids were far from perfect....... i posted them somewhere on my discord cuz somebody else also asked for them.
but after i swapped from the 2208 t-motors to bigger brother hobby motors i realized that the pids didn't work and that the t-motors just didn't have enough torque to spin the 7inch props

Man, you need 1.2g video, then you won't need such a high gain expensive pointy Patch antenna...It works fine alongside 868mhz control..
dunno i've heard you gonna need some filters on the goggles but i already thought about that..... just didn't know if there's a groundstation like the tbs 2g4 one so i could use it with my antenna tracker
@@RewindFPV You won't need a tracker on 1.2g video...but...you do need to keep your RC transmitter away from your 1.2g video reciever...So no 1.2g vrx in your goggles...use a small GS and a low power 5.8g video relay instead...It's easy, no filters, no noise, no problems...🤔😳😀🇬🇧

@@RewindFPV Yes, I use an 8dbi low gain patch antenna, channel tuned for good measure.. but you can just use dipoles, just keep your VTX power limited to 200mw on a quad and away from your Sat reciever...It's easy. ..🤔😀🇬🇧

Hi! Nice video. How are the LiIon holding after some time of usage? 20 amps drawing are like 3-4C discharge rate, are they suffering? I'm thinking about recycling some laptop batteries I have laying around with a similar setup.
Also, do you find that the triple blade propeller is more efficient than a double blade one?
This LiIon is a 4S2P configuration so i can draw double the amount of amps (60A).
tbh i wouldn't recommend using just some old cells...... better buy new ones, the right and good ones, before you go with old ones an then lose your kwad just cuz one old cell didn't want to charge properly or discharges differently then the others!
Most ppl use the Sony Konion vtc6 3000mah cells with 30 amps max discharge.
cuz of props...... this thing weights slightly above 1kg......i need the thrust of a 3 blade
@@RewindFPV whoa I didn't know there were LiIon cells like that on the market, 30A maximum current over 3000mah is 10C discharge... That's more than I knew LiIons were capable of. I'm also experimenting with the "transmitter lipo" on hobbyking, they're 5C 3S lipos and they're lighter than their high-C counterparts. However, I'm very new to the hobby so I don't know if those are actually any good.

Hi, I really got inspired by your video.. I got VTC6 in 3s3p configuration for Emax RSII 2205 2300kv (ESC 30A) with 60x30 (2 blade) props. My AUW is 1kg without Gopro and hover current is around 19A... do you have any suggestions for me for long flight time?
well....... you already got 3000mah more than my pack with 2p configuration so you should at least be able to stay as long in the air as i did (~15min).
i don't think it's possible to get more than 30-40 minutes out of any kwad though....... might just get too heavy
but i personally think 15-20 minutes are more than enough..... as long as it flies well which wasn't really the case for my 1kg 7inch monster
edit: maybe putting more cells in serial like 4-6s reduces the amps needed and thus giving longer flight times but i didn't test it and it would make the kwad even heavier

Wie bekommst du die Propeller aus dem Gopro Footage bei dem True-X Frame? Ich habe das Tbs Source one v3 7“ Frame und bekomme die Props bei 30 grad Kamerawinkel in das Gopro Footage. Wie viel Kamerawinkel benutzt du? Sehr interessantes Video
puh ich glaub irgendwo zwischen 26 und 28 grad lieg ich....... kommt halt auch auf die gopro mount und wie du sagst den frame an...... wenn der frame generell niedriger ist wirst mehr von den props sehen.
bin mir aber grad auch nicht mehr sicher ob ich da superview drin hatte ich glaub nämlich nicht..... dann haste die auch eher nicht drinnen

GPS hatte ich drauf aber RTH gabs glaub ich damals noch nicht bei Kiss.
Aber ich war ziemlich überzeugt von dem setup.....hatte nie wirklich Probleme

also stativ ist ein stinknormales rollei stativ für kameras, da drauf hab ich die tbs 2g4 groundstation geschraubt, auf die groundstation ne 2g4 gattling antenne von true rc canada und das ganze wird mit nem 5000mah 3s lipo von tbs befeuert 🙂
