  • I talk all about my long range FPV drone & gear. Including all the parts on the drone, goggles, antennas, li-ion batteries, a one of a kind 7" long range frame and more!
    There are a few long range flight examples to start, lots of talking, long range gear information and a few freestyle clips at the end.
    I design my own long range FPV frames, I have two very different 7" designs:
    RAD Li-ion long range FPV frame @ CNCDrones: bit.ly/3MFoCdg
    AOS Falcon 7 long range FPV frame @ CNCDrones: bit.ly/3jUiLUI
    Video chapters:
    0:00 - What this long range fpv setup can do
    1:15 - 7" frame & props
    2:00 - The drone and electronics
    3:44 - Control link (crossfire)
    4:00 - Diversity Rx antenna setup
    4:20 - Transmitter & Tx module
    5:10 - Li-ion batteries
    6:05 - Motors, battery sag, amp draw and ESC?
    6:45 - Lipo comparison
    7:20 - FPV goggles and antennas
    8:18 - 2 x high gain antennas w/ rapidfire
    8:40 - Long range FPV frame that I'm working on
    9:30 - New long range build
    10:30 - My next batch of 4s li-ion batteries
    11:45 - Some warmup / freestyle flying
    14:07 - Ending / video suggestions
    I'm often asked about how I get such good video and transmitter range. The biggest improvement for most will be from upgrading their antennas. I use these ones (Airblade UAV affiliate links):
    Goggles TrueRC - X2-AIR: bit.ly/3hKcXeS
    VTX TrueRC - Singularity: bit.ly/2L2YONN
    Crossfire Receiver TrueRC - Bardpole: bit.ly/38eIhzm
    Quad & Gear used (Airblade UAV affiliate links):
    Frame - RAD Li-ion 7" Long Range
    Goggles - Orqa FPV.One (Amazing Goggles!)
    Goggle antennas -
    - TrueRC X2-AIR: bit.ly/3hKcXeS
    - DIY 7 turn helical (thingyverse link): www.thingiverse.com/thing:367500
    HD Camera - GoPro Hero 6 Black
    Camera Butter ND filter: bit.ly/3rXd0IM
    Transmitter - taranis X9D
    Tx - TBS crossfire micro Tx at 250mw: bit.ly/395NrwR
    Rx - TBS crossfire nano diversity: bit.ly/3rSWny0
    Rx Antennas -
    - Back/Vertical - True RC Bardpole: bit.ly/38eIhzm
    - Front/ horizontal - TBS extra extended immortal T: bit.ly/2MvtyaF
    Flight controller - DYS F4 Pro V2
    ESC - Diatone 40amp from MK2 stack, DO NOT use the F405MK2 FC with BF 4.1, I find it to provide unreliable GPS function. (4.2 seems ok)
    Motors - Brother Hobby Avenger 2806.5 1300kv: bit.ly/2XaTSZN
    Props - Gemfan 7040: bit.ly/38YDf9j
    Fpv cam - Runcam Phoenix V2: bit.ly/2XcHyIs
    GPS - BrainFPV GPS: bit.ly/38WOiQe
    VTX - Tank Ultimate Plus: bit.ly/2L33UcT
    VTX antenna - True RC singularity: bit.ly/2L2YONN
    Comments? Questions? Leave them in the comment section below. I'll do my best to answer.
    This flight was done with 2 x 2600 mah 6s li-ion packs in parallel, one on top, one underneath.
    Post process:
    -ReelSteady Go for stabilization
    -Adobe Premiere Pro for editing, color correction etc...
    -Recorded at 2.7k 60 fps and exported at 4k 60 fps
    Music all from youtube audio library.

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  3 роки тому

      @@patmcfarland9880 I just did the other day with one of the new packs and for this heavier style of quad it wasn't enough thrust. I could get up and fly around no problem but any sort of dive would need to be pulled out of way early. I should put two of the new 4s packs on and see what I get for distance and flight time. It would be an interesting comparison. I have some 2208 1800 kv that would probably be more efficient with 4s but I'm going to try out the 2507 1750 kv motors I got first because I like having descent thrust when I need it (eg. for diving mountains and battling heavy wind gusts) After I finish building the quad (probably with the 2507's) I'll start the using the old one for lots of testing!

    I use the same iflight controller/esc for my 7" and had to scale throttle to 70% on my 1300kv to not overamp my vtc5d packs, so probably a good starting point although ive mostly ditched liions as ive been flying a lot harder lately
    Ive got a 2808 1500kv 7" ive been tuning that handles the wind a bit better than my 1300kv 7", and have been enjoying the weight/feel of gnb 4200mah 6s, also got a 10" built just waiting on props

    I just started a Chimera6 build and went with the BH 2507/1750 motors. I've never done LR at all but your videos have been very helpful. I'm relying on the math to tell me what motor/battery etc atm for the most part. If you are dropping to this same motor for your 7" I suspect I'm overpowered but the power on tap will be useful as I learn to trust myself farther out I suppose.

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  2 роки тому +1

      2507 is good for 6 inch. It's on the small side for 7 inch. A 2508 is better for 7 inch quads. The 2507 should be great for a 6 inch long range quad. If your on 6s you'll need a throttle limit setup. 1750 is about right for a slightly conservative 4s 6" quad. Good luck with your build and first long range quad!

      @@FalconRadFPV That's good to hear, as the full blown unit is definitely out of my budget right now. I was looking at the X-lite vs the BetaFPV Lite radio, but now I'm waiting for the Jumper T-lite myself. More budget-friendly without giving up the screen, and not sure i want to give frsky any more money for now with all the ACCESS backwards-compatibility shenanigans they've been pulling. I did pick up a used R9M (ACCST) on ebay (since they were going for $20) to see how far that'll take me with some mods. Not going for your kind of range of course, but a similar kind of flying.

    Seeing you have a lot of experience with long range, I have a couple questions about getting into it. Do you recommend just starting with your existing kwads (I have a 5 inch frame) and then build a long range specific model once you have a bit of experience under the belt? What do you think of the 5 inch lightweight long range trend (Dave_C minilongerange)? I want to have a build that is small and light enough that I can take backpacking but still flies well and can go a few km away.

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  3 роки тому +3

      All you need is 6s motors and 4s batteries and you can do some efficient longer flights even with 5" or 5.2".
      I've gone over 5km out using gemfan 5552 props. 6" props were a little more efficient but not much. So you don't need a big quad. 7" props do get you further out but how often do you want to fly 5 or 6 km away? I hanv't tested it but I bet a 5" could go pretty far with the right motors and battery. So yes I suggest playing around with what you have and trying to get some better efficiency out of it. There is a lot you can learn with a 5" long range still, getting gps working tesing it, getting your current meter set just perfect and then seeing how many mah your battery will actually put out so you can always know exactly what you got left. Get some practice with losing video and what to do about it. There is LOTS you can learn starting off with a 5". I just got a 4" flywoo LR. It seems pretty good and real efficient, it does not have current meter though and no pin to add one (I think) but it doesn't sag the battery too bad so using the voltage to monitor battery levels such a big deal. I haven't gone far out with mine yet, but talked with others getting 3 or 4 km with it.

I guess there are only so many ways one can design a 7" deadcat frame. I went with 6S2P VTC6, judging from the current draw I can see in your videos I should be fine.
    Please share some thoughts on PIDs and filters!

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  3 роки тому +1

      My tuneing issues were about getting my filters right. I tuned the filters at stock pids. Then tuned the pids which all went up quite a bit. Then I started struggling with vibs and jello at mid throttle. I finally discovered that I needed to retune the filters after cracking up the pids to make up for the heavy quad. Then it was all about getting my pids high enough that I was getting d-term oscillations under heavier throttle inputs and then turning it back down a little bit. Running the double battery packs I think requires some higher pids to account for the extra weight. When I use a single battery I can tell my pids are too high for the reduced weight.
