So basically if I'm understanding this right, the ending heavily implies that all reality benders in the SCP-verse are empowered by, if not the direct descendants of, the Scarlet King, who creates them with the intent of letting them run amok to spread fear across our world. And even when they die and their remains are used as protection from other reality benders, the Scarlet King is still the one in control, and could possibly turn the reality anchors against us anytime he wanted to. And it's also possible that he isn't actually imprisoned at all and is just pretending to be while waiting for the right moment to enact whatever plan he may ultimately have. I paused this halfway through to read the article. My god it's good. It covers so much. It writes a new possible background for so many articles that are at the "core" of the SCP foundation. Go read the article. Now.
I remember reading this SCP back when it was recent and man, it has stuck with me since. I love what it does and how it does it, even if many don't. The main one being how it gives such and intersting backstory for Clef and how it connects to how he's perceived by many, like how his effect of causing women to be repulsed by him could be explained as another subconcious reality bending trick making it so no other woman ever gets close. The author is great at this, especially since he had touched on other famous doctors such as Bright and Kondraki in other Tales And watching this video reminded me of many aspects I had forgotten, like how the witch is Clef's mother or the whole situation with the anchors, so I've come to love it even more. I also like how the author breaks conventions of article writing by implementing tales, even if that is the article's most divisive characteristic It's funny isn't it? I really like this SCP for it's story and deconstruction of Clef's psychology, but accepting it means accepting other horrifying implications I guess that's what Montauk truly is Fear
Oi, ya still there?? I read the article and apparently a section called "Rituals" has been deleted because other members didn't like it. Would you please tell me what was in it?? I've been trying to find it, but can't find it anywhere.
Very few content creators can make me stop everything else I'm doing once they upload, go run and grab some food and a drink, turn off the lights, and just listen, completely enthralled with the video, from beginning to end, no matter the length. This video, and you as a whole, are just an absolute treat. Here's to another year of great content.
An interesting dimension with all of this: RL Clef helped Vandal write this and really likes it, though he says that he doesn’t view anything as canon over another. RL Clef is also a really good dude in general, and so is Vandal (though would you believe he couldn’t legally drink when he wrote this???)
Vandal also mentioned in the discussion page of this SCP that it was initially written and posted onto AO3 as a fanfic before getting proper criticisim and turning into what it is nw.
I would probably get fired or amnestitized but if i was a guard or researcher or something there im going in and sitting down and helping. Not everyone in the Foundation needs to be a complete sociopath. :/ And years later I would always greet Dr Clef as Dr Fuzzy.
One thing that isn't mentioned often(maybe it's obvious): SCP 2317's chains are made from the bones and sinew of his "first bride", presumed to be another member of his "species". Scranton Reality Anchors are made from the remains of reality benders and the procedure for creating them was derived from the original translation of the Erikesh Codex. 2317's chains, like the carved bone in the hidden-text tale, are primitive reality anchors. The ritual that was used to contain 2317 as described in the codex and the process used by the foundation to manufacture reality anchors are one and the same.
@@evitanigaminU i left scp, its frustrating to keep track of a "lore" if there are no canon lore, worse if next entries will just follow some lores, and not the one you like

the most heavy hitting part would have to be when francis shot her as she was seemingly making some sort of change by realizing what she was really putting him through mid-sentence of her telling him something that sounded really important
She realized too late. She traumatized the man basically to the point of no return. I think he understood she was going to confess, but did not care. Tragic really.
She might have long before. She had the codex already and didnt destroy it (which is odd considering you would think she wouldnt want to stop the ritual) and didnt kill Francis the first moment she realized she might no longer need him despite knowing he kills reality benders. Its kind of unclear where he fits in the ritual besides the obvious... was she trying to make him the mortal vessel of the Scarlet King (possessing Francis)?
@Zoomer Stasi man your words hurt like ouch 💔 but i agree. The guy literaly sees death itself as no fucking big deal anymore. Like, everytime he sees someone die he thinks: ,,There things worse than death, you should be grateful."
@@agustinramos7500 No. The GOC agents protected humanity by exterminating reality benders, which in of themselves are a threat to mankind. They're absolutely in the right for the Ichibod Campaign, and if they have to run over a five year old girl with a van to keep humanity safe, than that's an appropriate price to pay.
@@thechaosbringer858 the problem that i see with the GOC is that most of the agents working for them dont actually do this because of altruism and the greater good but rather because of fear and hate against reality benders, i mean for a group of interest with their resources there should be another way of dealing with them that doesnt involve running over a kid, like for example indoctrinating them to become GOC agents
@@agustinramos7500 Yeah because that ended well with Able. Fact of the matter is, that with few exceptions the only solution to reality benders is a .50 cal explosive round to the skull.
Dr. Alto Clef well you did say yourself that you can’t interact with most anomalies, you can’t travel to other realities, seems like a reality anchor to me, and reality anchors are Thaumiel anomalies, plus cameras can’t capture you face, definitely an anomaly.
If anyone’s wondering how graphic the graphic sexual assault is in this, it’s fully written out, although it breaks into something more abstract as it gets worse. This story is genuinely what made me realize how horrifying rape actually is. Keep that in mind.
I guess the takeaway from Francis's story is that if you and your reality bending lover are in an abusive and unhealthy relationship you shouldn't seek help from cults nor a massive organisation that suppresses your abilities and keeps you like a caged animal. Instead you should go to a therapist, talk to your lover and try to work things out, even if she is an abusive and violent cult member who can bend reality.
I personally don’t think that all the SCPs we know of are from a single reality containing the foundation, but rather several realities that happen to have a vague consensus on ethics and purpose

I really think Lilly really did change in appearance. Her descriptions by Francis as "Antler crested" monster I think we're not just his mental picture of his abuser, but her power manifesting. Chestnut even describes something similar taking the mans wife and her daughter does have some deer-like traits.
But she would not have been given to a monastery, but immediately to the site. If I don't forget, at the end of the material, they send their daughter to church.
What a fascinating, sad, disturbing & excellently written tale. It's definitely one of my favorites. And your video style & narration is the icing on the cake my friend.
Out of everything I have read and listened to from SCP and other horrors. This story is the first to not only give me goosebumps, but to also make me start crying uncontrollably. As of right now, I’m unsure why, but it was always when he was talking about Francis and what he was put through. It scares me
The chills when I realized what/who this is about... And all the new perspectives it gives on those cornerstones of the SCP Universe. An instant favorite of mine.
"She notes that the Foundation is more ruthless and exacting in their rituals than any group of worshippers in the outside world." I had never thought about that! That's so true - the SCP Foundation could, in some ways, be seen as the ULTIMATE deity worshippers. That's so interesting to think about.
@@salicaguillotines this reminds of 6659, how the Foundation plans to battle a giant hostile detity in the noosphere by collective raising worship of a mythical being (Promethus) to give it enough power to defeat it.
@@lovelysakurapetalsyt well damn, a great discovery I guess. im just listening this to remember things from my source. sadly the memories are coming back pretty fast..so 😭 -Clef
I think what he means is that if Francis (the body) is a 'Bride', then there is the possibility of Dr. Clef (the split personality) of being his 'child', as Clef is the product of Francis being subjected to the life-changing fear that the Scarlet King is empowered by. If the fear was the seed, Francis was the receptor and Clef is the child of both.
@@LordIsrafel could go deeper if u agree with the writer, Clef, saying the char claiming he's the Devil IS true but only in that he tempted Humanity - he's (Chromosomal?) Adam Al Asam, the first Man. With a Sumerian Fruit of Life instead of a Tree of Knowledge, a Gate Guardian, and Cain and Abel around yet Sheth is conspicuously missing..
I think the name of this article is really poetic. Because Montauk more or less means fear, fear of someone to be specific, and that’s what the real antagonist of this story is. It’s not gods or monsters or magic. It’s fear. The fear that come from abuse.
As an owner of a Maine coon cat myself I appreciate you mentioning the manifestation of a dead female Maine coon in this house. It’s a nice house on the lake with infinity square feet and infinity floors. Plus it’s in a nice quiet location without any shifty figures living nearby (cause they dead) a great place to raise your kids. It’s got a great police force patrolling the areas at all times for any unnatural behavior so there’s no threat of crime for miles around. Just don’t look at them too much or else they’ll erase your memory. It’s also got a nursery in the basement for any expecting mother’s or newborn babies. Overall a great family home. But best of all, it’s insanely cheap! It’ll only cost you $12, a fake passport that resembles me, and a plane ticket to Russia. That’s it. Hell, forget the $12, I’ll pay you! Just take it! PLEASE JUST TAKE IT! Also sign these 15,000 pages of liability paperwork for the extremely unlikely scenario that you are dragged into the depths of hell by an immortal eldritch being who will stop at nothing to destroy all life on our world.
The algorithm recommended this video to me years ago. I clicked on it thinking that it would be a documentary on a creepy old plantation or something of that nature. Absolutely sent me down the SCP rabbit hole for a few years after that. It was a wild ride.
Starting a fund to give Dr. Alto Clef a hug a day every day for the rest of their life after hearing that one... At least they've got Foundation-level health insurance now, _I assume._
Holy shit, it’s the Montauk house! This skip took me for a ride and never stopped, the whole thing is amazing. I fully recommend giving it a read and returning for a synopsis! Don’t deprive yourself of this experience.
It was only when he said that Montauk was supposed to be a word from some ancient middle eastern language that it occurred to me that there aren't a lot of Native American place names in Cornwall. I think most Americans would have assumed that it was a word related to the First Peoples, Brits (I guess) not so much.
This also ties together some of the ideas of how members of the 05 use parts of dead reality benders to create reality anchors, and how reality anchors are "basically stronger reality benders that sometimes stabilizes reality." It would also explain why as more and more are made they're more likely to fail. The more you create the stronger the Scarlett King. The stronger the Scarlett King The more aware the reality anchors. The more aware the reality anchors the more likely they'll "fail" in spectatular ways.
Having read the excerpt of what lilly did to him, Francis's pain and the abuse he suffered was more than justification for him to kill her. She wanted to hurt him and likely would have harmed his daughter.
SCP-231's transportation is just the guards spinning the researchers and making fake sounds before they use something slide the researchers forwards and backwards then removing the blindfolds on the next room. Wait... Clef has three eyes... The Scarlet King has three eyes... *shocking realization*
That was a massive SCiP, with a lot of crossovers. A lot to process that’s for sure. Sometimes the fluid nature of SCP cannon can be a bad thing. I’m not sure if that’s the case here. But making Reality Anchors out of the bodies of Reality Benders is pretty morbid. Like feeding hot dogs to live pigs
I like to think that the cannon is actually up to each reader. There are alot of scp's I like and others that I dont. This story is interesting and somewhat morbid and as a whole is pretty good.I just dont like the dr clef person sorry.
My God this was both incredible and somewhat ridiculous! The fact that 4231 states that Dr.Clef, His daughter The Teenage Succubus and SRAs all have some sort of connection to The Scarlet King, That SRAs are made from dead reality benders, and that we now have another possible origin/backstory of Dr.Clef “which is already still a mystery and confusing as all hell” makes this Scip probably one of the craziest and most well written ones on the entire site! You outdone yourself with this video!
Kinda torn on this, I guess I like my SCPs to be the standard “horrible thing/strange thing written up like a scientific report”. That being said, fantastic job TES!
My accepted headcanon is the idea that 999 is the 7th child and 110 Montauk is the idea of attempting to satiate the Scarlet King. I prefer much more triumphant stories where the Foundation has at least some empathy and isn’t an amoral representation of “The ends justify the means” ideology
Honestly, the thing that stuck out the most with me is the implied abuses Francis suffered at the hands of Lily......sometimes I wonder, if my family did not succeed in helping me become more assertive, would I have turned out like Francis ?
This was great! So glad you tackled it! I remember reading it for the first time and just being like “???”. I always thought of Francis/Clef being one of the ‘wives’ and Lily being some kind of incarnation of the Scarlet King, but I’m pretty sure that’s not right now
i think i can remember somethings, and I know that i was tortured in the same way as the rest of the wives in the basement. it was almost like i was the seventh wive. -clef
I feel like you've mentioned in a video before, that the reality anchors inevitably break. I guess them being created using the remains of Reality Benders, explains how they anchor reality. And I guess the anchor components "waking up" may be the reason for them breaking.

The main one being how it gives such and intersting backstory for Clef and how it connects to how he's perceived by many, like how his effect of causing women to be repulsed by him could be explained as another subconcious reality bending trick making it so no other woman ever gets close. The author is great at this, especially since he had touched on other famous doctors such as Bright and Kondraki in other Tales
And watching this video reminded me of many aspects I had forgotten, like how the witch is Clef's mother or the whole situation with the anchors, so I've come to love it even more. I also like how the author breaks conventions of article writing by implementing tales, even if that is the article's most divisive characteristic
It's funny isn't it? I really like this SCP for it's story and deconstruction of Clef's psychology, but accepting it means accepting other horrifying implications

Clef: "Fuckers took my nail polish. Can't have shit in the foundation"

I know going mainstream is not a good idea in the first place, but this is quality philosophic horror. Kudos to all who writes these golden plates.
the most heavy hitting part would have to be when francis shot her as she was seemingly making some sort of change by realizing what she was really putting him through mid-sentence of her telling him something that sounded really important

+Achi Yugo that's actually pretty clever.
"The investigation concluded that the microscope slide was completely blank". Francis is an absolute mad lad 😂
My accepted headcanon is the idea that 999 is the 7th child and 110 Montauk is the idea of attempting to satiate the Scarlet King. I prefer much more triumphant stories where the Foundation has at least some empathy and isn’t an amoral representation of “The ends justify the means” ideology
