So I needed to take a bit of a break this week from exploring, so I decided to just read a tale instead. I hope you all enjoy it, and I'll be back to exploring some spooky stuff next week.
This story is adorable if you picture it all happening as a little sea slug with a top hat and pipe who is never acknowledged as such by all the people he interacts with.
I love this idea. It’s become such popular head canon that he transformed at some point or that his mind was transferred; but the idea that he has indeed been a bemonocled naturalist sea slug with, assumably psychic powers, who has simply never been questioned about it before the foundation… is a absolute peak!
Neon Rayz I believe there was another story out there where either Backwoods or Deeds said his uncle turned into an Eel? If so, then maybe the Blackwoods have a way to advert death by becoming another creature but with an supernatural twist. But I can’t confirm this

I have a theory that perhaps in the year 1910, Blackwood was somehow transformed into the seaslug, and refuses to accept the fact he has turned to such a creature. He refuses to acknowledge times past 1910 because he would not allow himself to accept the fact his journeys had ended because he had been transformed to a slug.
Or he has been hit by a cognito hazard that prevents him from recognizing he has become a sea slug and thus will not work to freeing himself from the curse.
My head Canon is that in his waning years he discovered "there be dragons" box and he goes on one "last" adventure with Mr Deeds and they are irrevocable changed by the experience. As a natural storyteller and his tales being inspirational to others, the dragons could not let him pass on.

@@TheExploringSeries Typically when I see your scp videos I end up reading up on the scp, and then watching the video to see if I missed anything not within the initial containment document, like with the factory version of scp-001 and the forest that shall not be named. To sit here and just listen to you read a tale verbatim is actually pretty nice because I don't feel the need to look up the full document, and can instead enjoy it being read to me like an audiobook or something. I'm not saying I like this any more or less than the in depth synopses, but it is a nice change up, and I definitely welcome more of them.

Johannes He That’s what I’m thinking. Odds are his intentions were good, but people are flawed regardless. Any number of things could have happened. Even if they attempted mass production and use, we don’t know how many of the creatures there were. We don’t know what lengths the Government would have gone to try take back control. I do feel the truth getting out to the public is definitely the catalyst of the world’s destruction
When they traveled to the dimension of the red sea object, they might just have come out at one of the last few unclean zones, which wasn't cleansed yet. Or it was the one zone, where the leaders of the church had to attone for their sins as they went trough the same punishment as they had brought over milions: To be stuck in an unclean one.

The leaders of the cult in that world didn't want it to be saved, just like our world their religion wanted to maintain control even if there was no purpose of it anymore because the species is pretty much gone. But the greed and desire to rule the ruins that cultiam brings, is what caused their people to ensure they all died, in the name of their crazy delusion. I fear organizrd religion will cause a similar situation in our real world
I love how they turned a British sapient sea slug into a vessel for the expansion of one of the most well known and enigmatic scps in the whole of the site. If there's anything more ominous than witnessing the ruins of a anomalous theocracy, its seeing that theocracy in action.

@@SirDankleberry Here's one, Site-13 gets "Thresher'ed" to UnLondon, where the Victory Society summons the Eldritch beings from beyond, the Hand helps the Foundation shove 682 through a Way down there and the SPC sends multiple MFTs in after it (the Foundation dumped some seawater on 682 and told them it was a Shark).

Theory: Blackwood was slowly exposed to his substance (Blackwood's Tears) during his use of it against the Unclean. It acted similarly to the Lord's Tears, but slow-acting; it only started the transformation effect after Blackwood's return to his home. When used against Unclean, they kill the beast, and the people it makes up. But for live people, instead of turning them into unclean, it turns them into slugs. Those afflicted by Blackwood's Tears would be unaware of their effects. Just before Blackwood ended up in SCP containment, his transformation was complete, hence the British sea slug.
@@e.v4892 Considering that things like Blackwood's Tears, Mister Deeds, and the house with all his other curios and research exist, combined with the fact that there never was an explanation or an attempt to find one on the Foundation's part as to how the Land of the Unclean went from global theocratic state to post-apocalyptic wasteland in their tests of the Red Sea Object, I'd say you have you have something here. Dark, as in MC&D, once sent his acting descendant an improved version of Blackwood's concoction, which she decided to name on the spot "Darkwood Tears." Given MC&D has a base in London, and the fact that Lord Blackwood is familiar with them by reputation, specifically Dark, or Blackwood refers to him in his accounts "the Deathless Merchant of London", this gives further credibility to the Lord's stories. As for what happened to that alternate reality, my theory is that when confronted with the evidence that Blackwood, who they knew as a member of the clergy and above reproach or doubt, had compiled for them to see distribute, the military must have gathered whatever troops they thought would support them and supplemented their numbers by broadcasting the truth to the public, leading the citizens in a revolt against the clergy. Who won the war was made irrelevant as the internal conflict left the borders unprotected, allowing the unclean to enter the cities. It then became a three-way conflict, as neither clergy nor revolutionary would back down and soon everyone either killed each other or was consumed. After that, most of the Unclean migrated to the wastelands, likely out of some conditioned instinct to return to their natural habitat. The only hiccup I have with your theory is that Blackwood himself was never directly exposed to his own substance(that we know of). It's more likely that during his experiments and countless attempts at making his namesake Tears, he was splashed with or unintentionally breathed in the fumes of several failed concoctions. This would explain the transformation into something far from human, its delayed effect, as well as the possible neurological effects that make him unaware of his current state as well as his possible memory gaps.
@@e.v4892 Never made that connection, I had always suspected that Blackwood either tried to find something equivalent to the fountain of youth which turned him into a biologically immortal sea slug, or the sea slug is not the real Blackwood (who died many years ago) but somehow retains his memories.
If this is his first video you've watched then yeah it doesn't match his name Haha but the rest of his videos are great at diving into the meaning and lore of these kind of things. They really are great exploring videos.

I remember when I first read this after reading SCP-093, I seriously wondered why Blackwood's Tears wasn't mass produced and used. At first I thought they realized Blackwood wasn't a member of the clergy and wrote him off as a mad heretic. But then I though the leaders just couldn't let go of the power they had and the Unclean, which held their power in place.
Or they did start mass producing it, and that world was saved. I think it’s implied that SCP-093 leads to multiple worlds where the eldritch entity introduced the “Tears” and after this world wiped away the Unclean, it was no longer accessible by SCP-093
@@felixluna4184 , The S.C.P.-093 entry contains numerous tests, but the Red Test is the most interesting as it describes a centralized hub where these devices being set up like some sort of central hub. It also contains a Journal entry from a S.C.P. agent that was experimenting on the device decades before. This entry goes on a lot about *him* and how *he* uses these devices to enter new realities filled with sentient people and destroy them via *his* tears. It is for the best no one goes through the mirror, lest they return to *him* the key to their own universes.

This is one of the greatest story telling lore of this SCP. I used to find that SCP uninteresting, but now I have grown to love it as this story put more spooks into my mind than ever before.
The military officer he gave his research to either destroyed it for being heretical or was killed by the High Lords along with his men when they tried to use the weapon and spread it's knowledge around the world.
There... Is a chance Blackwood's actions led to *him* releasing what hold he had of the unclean and moved onto the next world, leaving this one behind to burn. They resist *him*, they get wiped out.
I mean...it's just a semi-automatic tranquilizer gun. Given that he went there with a *disintegrator musket* it's not like it's even more advanced than what he already routinely walks around with.
The Red Sea object is one of my favorite SCP's due to how apocalyptic it was. I wish there were more tales of it like what exactly the alien entity claiming to be god is. The war that created the unclean. The first unclean and how humanity reacted to it, or what the surviving humans living in the space station made to run away from the unclean are like.
I like this story since it adds to the wonder when an 19th century naturalist finds himself in a 21st century style world, but then also being supernatural and dissimilar to ours in many ways, making it so that his awe of seeing our world is combined with our awe of seeing 093s world in a non-apocalyptic state
This has become one of my favorite SCP articles, the terror and the corruption, but also that sweet release from a fate far worse from death, and a single stranger from an unknown land that caused it all, this is how you tell a grand story
I mean, They should. Those things could be a serious threat, sending in a good MTF with that gear would be wise. set up a base on the other side, send in attack helis with the compound as the weapons.
Btw: This is epic. I've been listening to this during my stay-at-home-workshift of answering e-mails and it's really, really good. Absolutely worth the full listen.
This is easily one of the best written tales and one of my favorites from the scp universe. The writing like a Gentleman from the early 1900s or late 1800s is dead on.
I wanna hear more about this lord blackwood, the way he studied and researches so carefully before ever even entering the mirror is a level of planning rarely seen, and his ability to think on his feet his nifty as well

If this is you taking a "break" I'd recommend you take them more frequently. (understanding that there must be stories like this to tell) I wish you much success in your endeavors, I'm enjoying them immensely.
Even if you made this video, because you wanted to take a break, you made yourself quite an effort. I’m really genuinely surprised they haven’t considered making him thaumiel. Or at the very least, an anomalous agent. I know their attempts at an anomalous kill squad didn’t go well but the foundation has plenty of declared and undeclared anomalous agents
I fucking LOVED this, I really enjoy fiction in the form of a tale told by the classic explorer type, it gives it a nostalgic feel, and the raw dark feel of this story is a huge bonus
I like to think (due to refrences of the second opium war and mentions his colleague as the father of evolutionary theory and a spiritualist and is NOT darwin) he speaks in a dialect from an alternative England
I always thought the original 093 was just ok, not bad or anything, just the typical bizarre alternate dimension stuff you’d expect from the foundation. Blackwood’s story however, with how it’s recontextualized 093, has managed to turn it into one of my favorites.
That was absolutely amazing. Did not even feel like an hour long. Kudos to the writer of this amazing piece and kudos to The Exploring Series' amazing voice!

Took me a bit to remember I've read and heard the entry on the SCP, The Red Sea Object. One of the more interesting ones to read.

I highly encourage listening to The Volgun's reading of the Red Sea Object. The background music really sets the atmosphere for me.

Theory: Blackwood was slowly exposed to his substance (Blackwood's Tears) during his use of it against the Unclean. It acted similarly to the Lord's Tears, but slow-acting; it only started the transformation effect after Blackwood's return to his home. When used against Unclean, they kill the beast, and the people it makes up. But for live people, instead of turning them into unclean, it turns them into slugs. Those afflicted by Blackwood's Tears would be unaware of their effects. Just before Blackwood ended up in SCP containment, his transformation was complete, hence the British sea slug.
@@e.v4892 Considering that things like Blackwood's Tears, Mister Deeds, and the house with all his other curios and research exist, combined with the fact that there never was an explanation or an attempt to find one on the Foundation's part as to how the Land of the Unclean went from global theocratic state to post-apocalyptic wasteland in their tests of the Red Sea Object, I'd say you have you have something here. Dark, as in MC&D, once sent his acting descendant an improved version of Blackwood's concoction, which she decided to name on the spot "Darkwood Tears." Given MC&D has a base in London, and the fact that Lord Blackwood is familiar with them by reputation, specifically Dark, or Blackwood refers to him in his accounts "the Deathless Merchant of London", this gives further credibility to the Lord's stories. As for what happened to that alternate reality, my theory is that when confronted with the evidence that Blackwood, who they knew as a member of the clergy and above reproach or doubt, had compiled for them to see distribute, the military must have gathered whatever troops they thought would support them and supplemented their numbers by broadcasting the truth to the public, leading the citizens in a revolt against the clergy. Who won the war was made irrelevant as the internal conflict left the borders unprotected, allowing the unclean to enter the cities. It then became a three-way conflict, as neither clergy nor revolutionary would back down and soon everyone either killed each other or was consumed. After that, most of the Unclean migrated to the wastelands, likely out of some conditioned instinct to return to their natural habitat. The only hiccup I have with your theory is that Blackwood himself was never directly exposed to his own substance(that we know of). It's more likely that during his experiments and countless attempts at making his namesake Tears, he was splashed with or unintentionally breathed in the fumes of several failed concoctions. This would explain the transformation into something far from human, its delayed effect, as well as the possible neurological effects that make him unaware of his current state as well as his possible memory gaps.
@@e.v4892 Never made that connection, I had always suspected that Blackwood either tried to find something equivalent to the fountain of youth which turned him into a biologically immortal sea slug, or the sea slug is not the real Blackwood (who died many years ago) but somehow retains his memories.
I wish we had more SCP Games. Blackwood would be a good character to Interact with as a side mission about collecting his journals.

I remember when I first read this after reading SCP-093, I seriously wondered why Blackwood's Tears wasn't mass produced and used. At first I thought they realized Blackwood wasn't a member of the clergy and wrote him off as a mad heretic. But then I though the leaders just couldn't let go of the power they had and the Unclean, which held their power in place.
He says that he asked the general to ststartsrt mass production across the world doesn't he?

Or they did start mass producing it, and that world was saved. I think it’s implied that SCP-093 leads to multiple worlds where the eldritch entity introduced the “Tears” and after this world wiped away the Unclean, it was no longer accessible by SCP-093

The S.C.P.-093 entry contains numerous tests, but the Red Test is the most interesting as it describes a centralized hub where these devices being set up like some sort of central hub. It also contains a Journal entry from a S.C.P. agent that was experimenting on the device decades before. This entry goes on a lot about *him* and how *he* uses these devices to enter new realities filled with sentient people and destroy them via *his* tears.
It is for the best no one goes through the mirror, lest they return to *him* the key to their own universes.
More of these types of videos, please. Truly, fascinating.

This is one of the greatest story telling lore of this SCP. I used to find that SCP uninteresting, but now I have grown to love it as this story put more spooks into my mind than ever before.

The military officer he gave his research to either destroyed it for being heretical or was killed by the High Lords along with his men when they tried to use the weapon and spread it's knowledge around the world.
One of the things to remember about this world is *him* and what *his* plan is.
There... Is a chance Blackwood's actions led to *him* releasing what hold he had of the unclean and moved onto the next world, leaving this one behind to burn.
They resist *him*, they get wiped out.
This story is just fascinating. I was enthralled the entire time

The Red Sea object is one of my favorite SCP's due to how apocalyptic it was. I wish there were more tales of it like what exactly the alien entity claiming to be god is. The war that created the unclean. The first unclean and how humanity reacted to it, or what the surviving humans living in the space station made to run away from the unclean are like.
I like this story since it adds to the wonder when an 19th century naturalist finds himself in a 21st century style world, but then also being supernatural and dissimilar to ours in many ways, making it so that his awe of seeing our world is combined with our awe of seeing 093s world in a non-apocalyptic state
This has become one of my favorite SCP articles, the terror and the corruption, but also that sweet release from a fate far worse from death, and a single stranger from an unknown land that caused it all, this is how you tell a grand story
10 months ago I watched this video for the first time. I have been absolutely hooked on the SCP Universe since.
Now I'm imagining a tale where a Foundation employee ventures into the manor, finds Blackwood's Tears, and incites a full-on conquest of 093.
I mean, They should. Those things could be a serious threat, sending in a good MTF with that gear would be wise. set up a base on the other side, send in attack helis with the compound as the weapons.
Btw: This is epic. I've been listening to this during my stay-at-home-workshift of answering e-mails and it's really, really good. Absolutely worth the full listen.

Watching at 3 am and I thought that this story was really great with showing the world of the SCP-093 and I would love to see more of lord Blackwood.

I've just yesterday found your channel and have been listening to you recount these SCP reports. I have to be honest, this was probably my favorite recounting yet. If this is you taking a "break" I'd recommend you take them more frequently. (understanding that there must be stories like this to tell) I wish you much success in your endeavors, I'm enjoying them immensely.
Even if you made this video, because you wanted to take a break, you made yourself quite an effort. If there are more such interesting storys, i would gladly exchange a few exploring-videos a month to make room for this tales. i am certainly not the only one ;)

I have a 30 min trip to work and then I am always an hour early and this was perfect for my morning trip thank you for all the perfect content.
I always thought the original 093 was just ok, not bad or anything, just the typical bizarre alternate dimension stuff you’d expect from the foundation. Blackwood’s story however, with how it’s recontextualized 093, has managed to turn it into one of my favorites.
So its safe to say that Lord Blackwood is the very model of a modern major general, with information animal, vegetable, and mineral.
I love these long videos. Makes going to work on monday much more bearable.
